I am not afraid to admit that I hate MMO's (main reason is that I refuse to pay a monthly fee to be able to play a game that I already bought, and will be unable to play once the publisher shuts down the server while I will be able to play offline games for several decades). I don't understand why anyone would pick Final Fantasy XIV when there are so many other more deserving games on that list.

Ugh, I wonder if the idiots voting for Final Fantasy XIV realize that it's just a MMO (and thus not a real FF) and not a real game.

From what I have seen so far, it does not look like it will be better than the Metroid Prime games. The MP games were the best Metroid games, so Metroid: Other M has a huge challenge ahead of it. The initial trailer did not impress me at all, but I will reserve final judgment until reviews come in.

The Wii has almost sold as many Wii's in the US as how many GameCube's they sold worldwide, wow.

Analysts are expecting it to cost at least $200. If that is true then this add-on will totally bomb. Even $100 would be a hard-sell (I would get it at $100 IF both E3 demos are included plus that Milo program).

Even if it's priced decently, I don't see this as being much of a threat to Nintendo. At best it will reach a small percentage of the Xbox 360 fanbase, it can't compete with the Wii's controls since the whole system is built around it and not sold as a add-on.

This weeks PAL releases:

Super Smash Bros. for the N64 on Virtual Console
Cocoto Platform Jumper for WiiWare
Asphault 4: Elite Racing for DSiWare
Sudoku 150! For Challengers (to be called Sudoku Masters in North America) for DSiWare

I hope they don't pull the same crap they did with Majora's Mask and make us wait over a month to get it. I miss the days when all 3 regions would get a N64 game in the same week.

Yep, it's random. There are a lot of odd codes in the game. Justin Bailey just became popular because it was easy to remember.

This one is  called "Dawn of Discovery" here in North America, maybe you've heard of it under that name? There are some videos over at GameTrailers (and the GameTrailers Wii channel on iTunes).

Both the Wii and DS versions are only $30 and are listed as June 23 on Amazon:

It was never confirmed that Comedy Central would air new episodes in 2008. The only confirmation was that they would take the 4 movies and split those up into 4 episodes each (and those 16 "episodes" would make up the 5th season). This is the first actual confirmation of new episodes.

I like Project Natal, and at least 2 publishers (Electronic Arts one of them) have confirmed support for it. The thing that I think will kill any chance of success though is the price analysts are predicting. I have seen at least one reliable analysts predict it will cost at least $200. I think the price alone will make it a niche product. I liked the demos they showed for it and I thought the Milo project was pretty damn cool (though the folks at I think Giant Bombcast at a point in that pedophiles will probably love it), but there isn't a snowball's chance it hell I would pay $200 for it. I would even be reluctant to pay $100 for it (although if they had both of those demos and the Milo project bundled with it I might consider paying $100 for it).

Much like Atari and Nintendo before, self-sabotage was probably the greatest factor in Sony's fall from number one.  The pricing of the PS3 is just plain STUPID and, hey look, Sony went from first to last in the span of like a year.

More like a day. The PlayStation 3 has been in third place since it launched and has been there ever since. I agree with you that a large part of this was Sony's fault. I think that the moment Sony announced the $600 pricepoint most people realized the PS3 wasn't gonna win. It didn't help Sony's public image that they became very cocky (like saying that people would want to get a second job to afford a PS3 and stating that they could sell 5 million PS3's without even releasing any games based on brand name).

Indeed. As Matt Groening and David X. Cohen even mention in the audio commentary that Jurassic Bark is cited by Futurama fans as one of the most emotional episodes of the series, and one of the few episodes of any series that made me get a tear in my eye during the end montage of Seymour spending the rest of his life in that spot waiting for Fry to come back (and I love how they reference this in the first Futurama movie).

There's still the Arrested Development movie coming.  That could save the show.

Except that it's been confirmed that they haven't even started writing the script yet, so it's a long way off. I also doubt that they will revive the show (although I would love that).

I think even retail RPG's tend to cost more in Japan than other types of games, so I think it's just a genre thing. With SSB I do think it 's just because the game was so popular.

That is normal in Japan, take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Virtual_Console_games_(Japan)

Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were also 1,200 points. All 3 SNES Fire Emblem games and Super Mario RPG were 900 points each, etc. In fact, RPG's in general tend to be more expensive on the VC in Japan (something that has been nicknamed the "RPG tax", similar to the "Square tax" here where Square Enix charges $40 for some of the Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest DS games).

I do love Futurama, I own all 4 Volumes of DVDs and have seen every episode dozens of times. Of the 72 episodes, I think there is only 1 that I don't like (the one where Bender turns into a were-car).

Plus it's also nice how they aren't charging $2 more.

Why would they charge more? Nintendo only charges more if it's a import title (like Sin & Punishment). Super Smash Bros. is a first party title that has been released here before, it would be a huge shock and surprise if they charged more than 1000 Nintendo Points.

Nintendo better not pull the crap they did with Majora's Mask and give Europe Smash Bros. and make us in North America wait over a month.

Does G4 still show Arrested Development? Does this breathe hope into that getting revived too?
Maybe more networks can pick up on past FOX failures and give them the success that they deserve.

GJ for Futurama though, I look forward to their return, but I bet FOX will add them into the Animation Domination Sunday Nite Line Up and make Comedy Central air new episodes a week or 2 later (like they did with FG & CN)

Comedy Central bought the rights to new episodes, so as long as that contract exists Fox can't do that (Cartoon Network only bought syndication rights to Family Guy). I hope 20th Century Fox (which does own the show) reaches a deal to air it on FOX too since I don't have cable.

Family Guy is a mixed bag. Some episodes are great, others suck. I don't like how they always put down Meg, and I hate how Seth MacFarlane tries to make marijuana use look acceptable. How is American Dad offensive? They have jokes for liberals, democrats, men, women, pro-life, pro-choice, etc. They pretty much go to everyone. The Simpsons may not be at its funniest anymore, but it's still very good. South Park is rarely ever preachy and they still show that they will take shots at anyone.

As for the movies, I have seen the first 3. The only one I didn't like was "Futurama: Bender's Game", it was so boring.

General Gaming / Re: Sony's secret weapon is PS3 Slim... Jim?
« on: June 10, 2009, 04:28:24 PM »
I may just have to hunt down one of the old ones that has full PS2 backwards ciompatibility.

Hey, that's not a bad idea. Maybe by the time the Slim comes out (well, "if," technically), those older PS2-compatible models will be cheaper.

If anything they will become more expensive since PS2 owners would probably prefer to get rid of their PS2 system if they choose to get a PS3 but would want to keep their games.

Home is so disappointing (and slow as hell last time I used it).

The mandatory install some PS3 games have are ridiculous. Even when they decrease load times (which they don't always do), it's often only 1 or 2 seconds faster (which is not worth a 30+ minute install).

Some, not most. I am not the only one to notice that even demos that are of a similar size download much faster on the Xbox 360.
