The Wii getting more 3rd party support?
Are you talking more mini-game collections/spin-offs or normal gamer titles?

It's really too early to say if more 3rd parties will jump on board.
In Japan you have the DS taking up all the oxygen, in the western markets if you targer the 360 you can port to the PC and PS3.

It's still too early in the this console life cycle to see clearly.

PS- Edited for spelling.

General Gaming / RE:Keiji Inafune wants to make Megaman Legends 3
« on: June 02, 2007, 09:05:55 AM »
I've always been under the impression that Megaman Network Transmission sold about three copies and was promptly forgotten.
Even if it did out sell X7 and X8 that is not saying much.
Does anyone have numbers hard numbers for these games?

Inafune wants to do another MML.  You have MM Dash armor in Dead Rising as bonus.
Will Capcom execs allow him to do it, that is the question.

Ok I was being a little harsh.
If the Wii gets a MG game it will be via the VC.

Here's a link to the 20th Anniversary website for Metal Gear.
http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/mg20th/

Pay close attention to what's not being shown.
Namely every Nintendo based Metal Gear ever made.

Of course I could be absolutely wrong and have to eat foot, but everything tastes good with a little hot sauce.

I'm one of the few people that like Zelda 2.

It's different.  It's hard, it's unrepentent in what it does.
Some of the puzzles are wonky be today's standards but you had to find every item
and level up to the max just to survive the trip to the final castle.

The only Zelda that comes close in challenge is Link's Awakening with the Minish Cap a distant third.

Of course this is coming from someone who thinks MP2 is better then MP1.
My tastes are hardly normal.

It would be nice to have Legends on the Wii, but I doubt it will happen.
Notice the games he talks about when referring to Legends.
Both of these engines suite MML style game play just fine.

Also MML3 is not targertted towards Wii's core audience.
Only older gamers remember Legends and MML3 would be an epic rpg with a couple of mildly hard action set pieces.
It's the polar opposite of everything Nintendo is pimping right now.

Also history, MM has done well portables, but consoles not so much.
Remember how well the last exclusive MegaMan sold on a Nintendo console?

Hate to be the downer, but hell will freeze before Nintendo gets another Metal Gear title.
The only reason we got Twin Snakes is Nintendo flipped the bill and we all know how that turned out.

Also both Konami and Sony pretend Twin Snakes doesn't exist.
Ever seen the bonus material that comes with Subsistence?
Twin Snakes is a no show.

Actraiser is a great game.

I wonder if they will ever release Actraiser 2?
That game was bone crushingly hard.

Zelda 2 is an interesting choice for this milestone.

Zelda 2 is both hard and unforgiving by today's standards.
It's gonna make many casual gamers cry.

Oh well.

Holy $%@#...

That movie looks rough.
When does it come out?

If I need to explain my login name, then you haven't played enough fighting games.

Ironicly I don't play fighting games much as I use too.
I now play SF2 on the Wii, with some Guilty Gear on the side, that's about it.

Well at least this thread didn't devolve into who would have sex with Kaplan like it did over at NeoGaf.

But really, did she need to insult Billy?
He is a hardcore gamer who still stumps for Nintendo.
Nintendo doesn't have too many of those anymore, you would think she would be a littler nicer to him.

Could anyone here get a hold of Billy for comments?

So does Brain Academy support online play or doesn't it?
Is this another Kepplan "no region encoding" incident?

The only thing I care about is MP3 and that's coming Aug 20.

It's good to see MP3 get a solid release date.
My sole reason for buying a Wii finally has a date.

Does MP3 have a website yet?
I know Brawl has a website and it doesn't even have a release date yet.

Well RIP Flagship...
Maybe you'll resurrect and become a "zombie" studio of some sort.
Ok that was lame.

Who is now working on the RE titles for Wii?
It seems Capcom is closing a lot of branchs that were working on Nintendo products.

Sorry KDR your on the the short end of a very short stick when it comes to long single player games on the Wii.
Try Super Paper Mario when it comes out, other wise wait for Prime 3 or just buy some PS2 games.

Invisible WAr has the sin of being developed with consoles in mind.
With those limitations and the universal ammo system DE2 was DOA.

Ironiclly I first played DE2 on the Xbox then I went and got DE for the PC.
DE2 is good, just not as good as the first one.
I like the endings of DE2 better, they are much darker.

Well here is some good news for the Wii.
I wonder how they are going to change the controls.
The original TR used almost all the buttons on the controller.
I will have to wait and see...

The PS2 held graphics back a lot last generation.
Any one remember the conversations that we had with Jason back in the day?
He stated that the PS2 was responsible for a lot of 3rd party games looking like crap.
I've managed to talk to a couple other devs in my online travels and they have said similar things.

Here's a link to the original article...
http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/levelup/archive/2007/05/08/geek-out-xbox-uber-boss-robbie-bach-takes-a-shot-at-nintendo-s-underpowered-wii-does-
he-manage-to-score-a-bulls-eye-or-just-shoot-himself-in-the-foot.aspx

I've heard the figure 8 tevs before, but according to patent applications the GC tev can have upto 16 stages in it???

For more infor about Nintendo's TEV/pixel combiners here a link to a patent that describes them in detail...
http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsearch-adv.htm&r=9&p=1&f=G&l=50&d=PTXT&S1=Nintendo.ASNM.&OS=an/Nintendo&RS=AN/Nintendo

Namely this little piece of info from the link above...

"The association of lighting colors, texture coordinates, and texture maps with a recirculating shader stage is set using GXSetTevOrder. The number of texture coordinates available is set using GXSetNumTexGens. The number of color channels available is set using GXSetNumChans.

GXInit will set nStages to 1 as a default.

Arguments: nStages

Number of active recirculating shader stages. Minimum value is 1, maximum value is 16 Example usage: void GXSetNumTevStages( u8 nStages );
"

Are there any devs here that can clear things up?

Is the Wii getting SC4?  I'm not trying to bash, but could someone provide a link?

I find it hard to believe that GG is getting motion controls.  That game is best described as "chess as light speed".  High level play requires per frame accuracy for many combos, at 60fps I really can't see how this would work.  Well at least the Wii is getting the Accent Core version of GG.

Edited, I need to proof-read more.

KDR, what are you running on your 2k setup?

The only time I've seen 2k crash consistenly is when someone installed the lasted Lotus Notes or was using it on a mechine that was vastly out of spec for it.

Lotus Notes is the only piece of software I've ever used that is more bloated then Office.

Ian, nothing wrong with Office 97, though I prefer Office 2000 for my Win9x machines.
It has most of the features from 97 but a lot more polish, but it does run a little slower.

Some already mentioned it, but I'm getting a lot of "Death By Nine Degrees" flashbacks right now.
In some ways this a perfect example of the problem Nintendo is facing.

Almost any tradional hardcore game done on the Wii can be done on the PS3 or 360 so we get the experimential "spin-off".

Nintendo Gaming / RE:As much as it pains me....

You know what's really weird about this thread, it shows how divided gamers have become as a community.
Even a few years ago this thread would have been "gamers vs. non-gamers" or a group of gamers defending their favorite console.

Today thanks to Nintendo we have "casual gamers", "hardcore gamers" and "casual hardcore gamers"??? WTF?
Is this the price we are paying for videogames to go mainstream?

Interesting article but it's what I expect from a Nintendo exec.
I wouldn't be so pissed off at Nintendo right now if their "blue ocean" didn't strategy mean throwing all hardcore gamers to the wind and embracing people who have never played a game in their life.

Oh well...
