General Chat / RE:The Great Crash of 05: Part Deux
« on: March 08, 2005, 04:53:49 PM »
Has anyone here read about MS XNA technology?

While not really new, it does try to address the growing cost of game development.
It's no surprise that Epic is a big supporter of XNA.  Many of the things listed on the
Unreal website are things MS is trying to deal with using XNA.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:No Third parties?
« on: March 08, 2005, 04:21:48 PM »
Well, here's the problem.  Third party support is almost more important these days
then first party.

First party is important, but if companys like EA, Capcom, Konami, and Square-Enix don't make you their primary platform, you're screwed.  Look at the games that decided the last
two generations.

PSX - FF7(2nd/3rd party)
PS2 -GTA 3 (3rd party)

Third parties tend to make games that mainstream gamers play.
Mainstream gamers now make up most of the people who play games.
Nintendo has yet to embrace that fact.

General Gaming / RE:Xenon specs revealed.

That entire article just feels weird.
I just can't wrap my head Xenon not supporting DirectSound.

I would suggest anyone wanting to know more, goto MS's XNA site.  There's a lot of BS there, but there are some nuggets you can find.

Wow, I'm amazed that most of the these threads in "Fast Forward" boil down to hardcore gaming vs mainstream gaming.  Step back and look at this very thread, mainstream vs hardcore gaming seams to be the overall agrument about Nintendo this generation.

General Gaming / RE:Xbox 2 getting Japanese developers
« on: March 04, 2005, 07:55:35 AM »
Deguello, you vastly over simplify the N64's third party situation.  As Ian said
this will shore up the XBox's few Japanese customers while addressing the
complaints of certain western customers.

When was the last time Nintendo did this?
That's right, never...

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Resident Evil 4 Discussion
« on: February 10, 2004, 08:15:04 AM »
I haven't seen it talked about here yet, but Capacom is seriously hitting at a Dawn/Day of the Dead type scenairo for RE4.  It was mentioned when the first trailer came out that the game was set in a post-apocalyptic setting.  Now with the new update to the website it is officially being mentioned that that society has broken down or is on the verge of collapse.

Also about all the weird characters(Mr.Hook, Reindeer Head, FAce in Curtain), play RE0, that properties of the Progentior Virus will explain why those things are there.

Time Crisis 3???  The only place I can play that is at a local movie theater in at a dollar a pop.  If I'm having a good night I go along ways on five dollars.

Though finding any Tri-force/X-Box based arcade games are nearly impossible.  Does HotD 3 even exist??  Owe well, finding a good version of SS a tough enough.

I have to agree with SUPER about fighting games coming back.  My local arcade has CVS 2, MvC 2, and both bring in very large crowds.  However, SF3 is also present, but doesn't seem generate much of a crowd.(SF3 is much different fighting game then the "versus" series.)

I wish I could find HotD 3.  I 've beaten the first one many times.  It's a great game if you can find it.

Funny thing is, some of the best games are found in hotels.  I've spent alot of time on Samurai Showdown 2 at a local hotel.

General Gaming / RE:What if Final Fantasy 7 were on Nintendo 64?
« on: October 24, 2003, 06:58:44 AM »
Perm you're digging up some history with Quest 64.  The game was alright, the US version was an in-complete version of the Japanese and European games.  Those versions were suppose to remedy most of the problems the US version had.  The only problem that Quest had was the battle system.  Most end bosses were either very hard or far too easy.  Also the
way you leveled up was bass ackwards.

The sad part was, with proper writing and a fix of how you items, the game could have been very good.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Apple & Nintendo in the sack???
« on: October 23, 2003, 12:50:44 PM »
I really can't see Nintendo pairing up with Apple.  Why???
Apple doesn't have anything that Nintendo needs.(Many people
have previously said this)

Apple designs very little of it's own hardware.  In fact, I believe they only design the chipsets which are used in various Apple computers.  Beyond that everything else is a third party design.  Nintendo has NEC/ATI to help design it's next console, why would Nintendo part with them to Apple who knows nothing about console design...

The closest we'll ever see to what FF7 would have looked like would be
the polygonal FF3 demo that as shown at the beginning of N64's life.

FF7 would have a very polygonish game with hours of cut-scene instead
FMVs.

It wasn't until  the N64 version of RE2 came out that any sort of major
pre-rendered work was done.

General Gaming / RE:Is FF7 over-rated?
« on: October 19, 2003, 06:46:01 AM »
Ahh Bloodworth, you really want to drag Dragona into this??  Oh well...

Dragona would shred FF7 to pieces, but from a very skewd point of view.
Which is fine, everyone has a right to there opinion.

Some people like FF7, others don't, there really isn't to much
more to this conversation...

General Gaming / RE:Is FF7 over-rated?
« on: October 17, 2003, 09:24:30 AM »
Wow, not another FF7 discussion...

FF7 is a very polarizing games for many reasons.  Few of which I see
listed here....

- FF7 when it came out was a game that cost Nintendo the N64
gerenarion for a number of reasons.

- Many old-school gamers could not accept the
direction that FF7 took the series in.

- FF7 opened RPGs to a number of people which had never played a RPG
before, thus many newbies said it was the best RPG ever.

- Yes, it was overhyped, but FF7 had one of the most complex and deep stories in an
RPG, but few people understood it as honda's post points out.

Feel free to add or take from these points, but I'll be up front now.
I believe that FF8 and FF10 are the two best games in the series.
