Nintendo Gaming / RE:The Long Tail and Nintendo's Future
« on: May 17, 2005, 03:22:37 PM »
I guess I have to eat some foot on this...

Wow, I glad Nintendo is finally doing something with these old games.

Ian, your right, a lot of fan-games could get a chance on this system.
Xbox Live already has game you can download any play exclusively for that
service.

Everyone talks about the FF7 demo on PS3,  but at MS's conference Square showed a customized demo that wasn't too bad.

I missed the Sony conference, but so far I like what MS is showing more then Sony.  At least MS is showing a lot more original stuff.  The stuff shown at MS's conference looked at lot better then the stuff shown at the MTV special.

Just watched the E3 conference, Square is developing for XBox360...

Very good IceCold...

So my questions is what's the story of PD0?
Technically, PD was Joanna Dark's first real mission.

Wow, the jaggies were so sharp in those pictures I thought
I was going to cut myself looking at them...

I'm glad I got the GC version....

In my opinion all PD needs a new story/weapons with a massive graphics update.  The game play of PD is the direct decendant of Goldeneye, it doesn't need to change much.

Here's some geek trivia...
Why is Joanna Dark called "Perfect Dark"?  There is a reason...

"Why does everybody throw around the "Apple card"? Apple doesn't bring anything to the table except a brand name"

Thank You KDR...

Let's put this deal another way, iTunes and iPod are number 1 in their respective markets.
Apple doesn't need Sony to help sell iTunes or iPods.

Sony, however, could use iTunes to help legitamize the PSP as a mulit-function device.
Sony benefits from this deal much more then Apple does.

Apple is a funny company.

For every one brillant business decision Steve Jobs has, he has an equally stupid one around the corner...

But, doesn't Sony already have a music download service?

Actually, the PS1 CPU serves as the IO processor on the PS2.

Also, about the Reggie heads, I don't know if I should laugh or cry?

TalkBack / RE:MoSys: Revolution Launching in Mid-2006

I kinda figured this was going to happen.  When NEC first said they were relicensing 1T-SRAM again, I kinda figured it would be for Revolution.  Isn't XBox 360 also using 1T-SRAM?

Actually I kinda blame Sony for this.  They were talking about the PS3 back in 1999.
The only reason MS is launching early, is Sony is launching in 2006.
MS learned their lesson last time, Sony will not have a year all to itself this time around.

This thread is very interesting, I don't know if this info is true,
but let me tell you a little story...

I interned at IBM some years ago during the summer of 2000.  During the course of a company event, I got talking to an EE.  During the course of the conversation I learned lot's about his job and what like to do, namely, videogames.  Since we both liked videogames, we started talking about Project Dolphin.

Anyways, he told me something about Dolphin which wasn't publicly known at the time, namely that Dolphin would use 1T-SRAM as it's main memory.
Needless to say, I didn't believe him so I kept my mouth shut on the Internet.  Couple months later when Dolphin became Gamecube, he was proven right.  He gave a scoop and I didn't even know it.

Moral of the story,
you would be surprised what lonely enigneers have to say when they have no one to talk too all day.

I don't what else to post.  Nintendo is being really quite right now.

There were TV ads for RE4.

If you weren't watching G4 back in January post 10:00pm at night, you most likely missed them.  The ads looked like they were made by Capcom, not Nintendo.  Hmm...

An XT would have been state of the art in 1984(sorta).

The year my friend and I put that system together was around 1994~1995.  I believe we also had an IDE hard drive thrown in via a daughter card on an ISA bus.  Ah, the good old days...

Ahh, PC XT.  I have fond memories of those.

Of course my friend and I ripped apart his old Panasonic Computer to upgrade our PC XT to a wholesome 8Mhz.  Plus we threw in an Intel based VGA controller and we had pretty pimped out machine, well for 1984 maybe...

Ah, those were the days...

DVR, while not back breaking, could be one of those check-list items that goes against Nintendo in the long run.

Both Sony and MS having been working on DVR with some limited success(MS more then Sony).  It wouldn't hurt Nintendo to team up with Matsushita on this front. A DVR unit will show that Nintendo is willing to play ball on any front with MS and Sony.

Here's the reality of future consumer electronics, everyone but Nintendo envisions consumer electonics being an all-in-one solution.  When I say everyone, I mean EVERYONE.

Computer manufacturers, cable companies, consumer electronics companies...

I think you're kinda right Stimutacs Addict.  DVR is shaping up to be the new DVD playback for next generation.  Online and DVD playback were the new, big things this gen, DVR is next.

I read that the JPN and EUR versions of Quest 64 where different then the US version.  Also wasn't Quest 64 in Europe called "Something" Monsters...

Oh, well learn something new everyday.

"And i think it is agreed that Perfect Dark is simply the greatest console FPS of it's time. "
Amen to that...

I would like to see...

Sin and Punishment
Mischief Makers
Pokemon Snap

Quest 64, didn't Europe and Japan get two different versions of this game, Japan having the closest version of a full game.  Quest 64 was empty looking b/c the game was released before
it was done.

A sequel done right would be nice...

« on: April 17, 2005, 04:09:35 PM »
I understand where you're coming from Zakkiel, the cost of having to distribute machines to burn discs on demand would be very hard in the US.  It would take a very long time to make a profit on a coast-to-coast venture.

On the other hand, if Nintendo did what MS is doing with Live Arcade, and did it properly, it could make some money.

The question is, would Nintendo sit out short term loss for long term gain???
My guess is no.

Wow a lot of good ideas on this thread...

I thought I saw this mentioned earlier, but X-Box Live has something called X-Box Live Arcade.
It does what many people here are talking about.  The next-gen XBox Live looks to take the second tier model even further.

Also, didn't Sega try in Japan, a service where people could play old Genesis games on the DC via a SegaNet service?

The problem with this model, is Nintendo abandons any venture that doesn't make an instant profit.  Point and case, the N64DD, Randnet and to a lesser extent Silicon Knights.

More info on X-Box arcade...

This annoucement is about mind share.  Xbox lacked Japanese developers.  Buy doing this,  MS is taking an active role in solving that problem.  It shows that MS is listening to people who buy it's console.

Then again this is coming from a bias Xbox site...

Nintendo is beginning to do this with Rev., but Nintendo is still too quiet on the 3rd party front.

Great article.  Stuff like that is the reason why this is the number one
fan site for Nintendo on the Internet.

PS- Justin's daughter is now 5???
