GeoWorks?
Which version?

My uncle had an old copy of that.
It was interesting for it's time.

The first computer my family had was a Timex.  It was a copy of....

Hint- This family of computers was popular in Europe but not so much in the US.

Not to be a bastard but Gametap has some arcade titles already.
It's the only source I know of for 194X and other assorted titles...

The SNES had a sound that was ahead of it's time.
It wasn't until the Sound Blaster 16 did the PC really catch up to it.
The sound chip in the GBA is AC97ish at best.

I second the comment about MIDI on the N64 Castlevania games.
Hybrid Heaven had good music also.

Command Mission was a good game, but not the best.  If you like MMX give it a try.
It's beatable if you rent it twice.

MM:NT is another good game.  It's kinda hard, but it's a nice blend of action rpg and platformer.

The best RPG based Mega Man is Legends 2.  It's dark with some decent action set pieces in it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:What's so special about Dragon Quest?
« on: January 03, 2007, 01:34:10 AM »
I guess DQ is so popular because it was one of the original RPGs for the NES.
It is the template for many RPGs to come.

In the US the series never took off for a number of reasons, one being it was very hard to find.
The US never got any of the SNES games or their re-releases.  There was something like a 10 year gap
between Dragon Warrior 4 and Dragon Warrior 7 in the US.  When Dragon Warrior 4 came out
it was very hard to find.

Each FF game is different.  When an FF game comes out it pushes the limit of sound and
graphics with fresh gameplay.  Based on history alone I know FF13 is going to be different then FF12.
DQ9 is literally the first DQ game with a different battle system.  The battle systems of DQ1-8 are just slight variations of each other.

DQ games tend to be too long.  While I've never played DW7, I've been told by every person
who has that it's 40 hours of content with 40 hours of leveling grinding.  Thus it's an 80 hour game
for all the wrong reasons.

PS- Edited for grammar.
PPS-InfernalMonkey, what is Midna doing in your avatar?

I hear you Nintendogamecube86, Japan does have some nice stuff that we don't.

Well I hope someday they give us the Fire Emblem games, at least.

Mischief Makers is a possibility if only because it came to the US.

I gave up on Fire Emblem a long time ago.
I would be happy if they released the first GBA game over here.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:The legend of zelda remake for wii?
« on: December 22, 2006, 01:43:08 AM »
Evan I hear what your saying, but in order to make a game like that you would need a system more powerful then the Wii.
It at best would look like Morrowwind on an old PC.

Didn't TP use a hyper modified version of the WW engine?
It trades texture and model detail for no load times.

It would be interesting to see a Zelda game built from the ground up on Wii based engine.

Here's a quick history lesson...

About Champion Edition SF2...
On the SNES it came as part of Hyper Fighting, you could play the CE version or Turbo version of SF2.

Both Genesis and SNES received a port of Super SF2.  For years the only way to play Super Turbo was on the 3D0.
On one of the Street Fighter Collection disks for the PSX Capcom put on a version of Super Turbo.
Super Turbo comes as part Capcom Classics Collection 2 for the PS2.

I'm glad to see Nintendo is using the TG16 version of R-Type, which is one of the best home versions around.
PS- Did you know on the original TG16 release of R-Type that is was released as two seperate Hu cards?

Plus yay for SC4.  Good job Nintendo....

I was being somewhat sarcastic.  Any time you give a little info out about a network, a good hacker/cracker will use it.  If I was trying to hack Nintendo's VC system(I am not and I don't anyone should try) I now know a little more about the system that is uses.  Yes I know security through obscurity doesn't exist.

On a side note, along with Apple Microsoft uses Akamai for various things.

As a bonus to all people who read this thread here is a google hack just for you...
Type in "site:akamai.net nintendo" minus the quotes.  The first link is a PDF file
that anyone playing the Twilight Princess will find interesting.

I am not responsible for your computer is type it in wrong and you click on a bad link.

Akamai???  I wonder how long it's going to take for the VC sevice to get hacked.
Every little bit of information that Nintendo releases about this service will do that.

Correct Ice Cold.  The first one was Dragona and Fran was the second.
I would do more recent ones but I was banned from these forums for a couple of years.
I have a missed a lot of wierd things.

This thread is very creepy...

Here's a couple of old school ones.

1.)This person supposedly memorized the entire script to Lufia 1 and 2.
This bit of information comes from the PlanetN2000 era of this site.
Doesn't really post here anymore.

2.)This person use to run a fan made GC website while it was still code named "Dolphin".
Use to post here alot untill he got a job at IGN.
Last time he posted here the forum took him to task about something he wrote.
Has never here posted since.

Two should be obvious, one not so much.

People like Bloodworth, Ian, and Perm might remember these people.

General Chat / RE:Now That The Wii Is Actually Here
« on: December 15, 2006, 08:12:04 AM »
Different era during the GCN launch.
Many people thought Nintendo would return to 1st place with the GC.
For reasons that are beyond the scope of this thread, that didn't happen and Nintendo is now 3rd place world wide.

The Wii has also devided the fan base some.
I really think that has something to do with it.

I feel your pain about Calc 2.  I washed out of it twice.

I knew I was screwed when the first time I took the course the teacher said there was no help at the ASC
for us students,  we were on our own.

I could pass Calc 1 but Calc 2 ended my CS major.
I switched to a generic Math/Science Liberal Arts Major.

The problem with Calc is most real world applications tie directly with physics.
Unless your into engineering you use physics very little in real life.

Hope this helps a little.

General Gaming / RE:Two Square-Enix Titles For Xbox 360 In The Works???
« on: December 14, 2006, 01:31:09 AM »
If this is true it might be Front Mission online.
I highly doubt that it will be FF13 because lack of space on the 360's DVDs.
FF13 will have lots of video.

Ironicly FF12 has lots of voice acting and FMVS and it fits on one dual layer DVD.
Can't say the same for the POS called Star Ocean 3.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:So is Zelda:TP GC in short supply?
« on: December 12, 2006, 11:24:00 AM »
When I went to Gamestop they said preorders only today.
The guy was giving them out on a first come first serve basis.
He told me to stay in the store and wait.  He kinda indicticated that
he wasn't sure how long his supply would last.

I really don't know if Nintendo is doing a preorder only run, but nothing
would surprise me.

Does anyone find it ironic that Nintendo did the DQ9 announcement on the day Zelda was released?

General Gaming / RE:PS3's PSone store
« on: December 06, 2006, 08:27:25 AM »
Couple of random thoughts...

No two player and not being able to play on the PS3 kinda sucks.

The price however is not bad.

Notice how much space those games take up on a memory stick.
If Square ever wanted to release their PS1 colllection this is the place they would do it.

If anything I hope this creates competition so Nintendo will lower it's VC prices.

KDR beat me to it but Apple had a console in the mid-ninties.
It was called the Pippin and it was beaten like a "red headed step child".

Apple might start distributing games via it's iPod and later the iTV and iPhone.
I can't see Apple even competing in the console market, they just don't have the money.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:What more do you think it’ll take?
« on: December 05, 2006, 06:39:25 AM »
While MGS may not sell like it use too, about 90% I know who want a PS3 want MGS 4.

Plus in 2008 the Wii has to endure FF13.  In Japan it will be a system seller and in the US
it will be a must buy.

It's just too early to tell which way this generation is going to go.
