Wow, that trailer kicked a$$.

I now have three reasons for keeping my Wii.  This game being the third.
Is it me or is Ike fighting the bird king in that preview?

General Chat / Was NeoGAF always like this?
« on: January 31, 2007, 02:19:29 PM »
I've heard a lot of people talk about the GAF boards but I've never really sat down and looked at the forums.
So tonight I went over there and looked at it so see if it's worth joining.
The only word I could be used to describe it was "wasteland".

I'm not trying to insult any NWR posters who post there, but has that site always been so screwed up?
Could anyone fill me with a little history of that place.

Actually ATI madethe first DX10 part in the Xenos chip for the 360.
nVidia made the first desktop DX10 part in their 8800 series cards.

Pointless obscure knowledge...
Did you know that nVidia was started by a couple of engineers from Sun Microsystems?

Point 2- Did you know nVidia was contracted to make a chipset(NV2) for the Dreamcast but Sega didn't like it so
it was never used.

"Q fund",  I forgot about that Perm.

Well it's good that Nintendo made up with SE when they did.
If Nintendo didn't give a GBA license could you imagine Sony getting SE exclusively for the SE?

I know SE supported the Wonderswan Color, but that system wasn't even as powerful as the GBA.

Unless DQ9 flops the PSP is dead in Japan.

I guess this will be like "F***ing Konami Week" over at Insertcredit/Selectbutton.
Accept "F***ing Konami Week" really would have games, booze, and hookers.

Well at least this site is sending the GC off properly.
Kinda weird, hype about the GC is what started this place.

It is a sad day...

James Bond Jr.- Talk about digging up your obscure shows.

Earth:Final Conflict uh well sucked and really sucked.
There is a reason why it was buried for so long.

Earth 2 was good for a while.  Then it became apparent that this abandones planet was well populated.
I remember the final episode where the main character either dies or gets really sick.  They sorta just write
her out of the story.

Sci Fi on tv hasn't been good since the fifth/sixth season of X-Files or the final season of DS9.

TalkBack / RE:Virtual Console February Lineup for Japan Posted
« on: January 29, 2007, 01:39:18 AM »
Not a bad list but...

Most of those games can be gotten on the Genesis Collections 2 disc for the PS2.
Those that can't be gotten, are Japan only releases for the most part.

Shin Megami Tensei, that is a game for ultra hardcore RPGers.  Most likely Japan is getting
the SNES version and not the remakes.

Oh well...

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Capcom Announces First Wii Game (by Inafune)
« on: January 25, 2007, 01:17:55 AM »
Here another reason I brought up the 360 and Halo.

Nintendo has some momentum right now.  Right now their "Blue Ocean" strategy is working.  MS is not sitting by and letting this slide.  Remember Bill Gate's comment about Nintendo being their primary target?  To keep that momentum going I think needs decide which game is going to be the big thing this holiday and run with it.

Personally I believe that game to be Mario Galaxy.  Mario has appeal to the crowd that Nintendo is catering too and has some cache amoung older hardcore gamers.  I'm just worried this Christmas will be a repeat of 2004 when MP2 came out.  There's nothing more frustrating then watching a 9 year old playing MP2 on a kiosk and asking if this is the new Halo.

Isn't Inafune working on DMC4 right now?

« on: January 24, 2007, 03:45:12 PM »
Wow I didn't expect to start a fire storm.

Mario appeals more to the market Nintendo is catering too.  My parents know who Mario is, but they don't have a clue who the Master Chief is.
For the crowd who's first system was a Playstation or XBox just about everyone knows the Master Chief.  Much as I hate to say it people who don't know what MGS 4 or FF13 are, know the term "Halo".

I just brought out Halo 3 because the hype is building as we speak and it's casual appeal.  People are beginning to get invites for the multiplayer beta.  Come this summer we will see trailers in movie theaters.  In the fall we will see commercials in primetime on major networks.  I know I will be sick of hearing about Halo before it's launched.

What I wish Nintendo would do is pick one AAA game and decide this game will run against Halo.  Sent aside $10 million and pimp the hell out of it.
The last time Nintendo did this was with DK64.  Remember the stupid trailers in the movie theaters?  It worked.  DK64 sold over 1 million in 24 hours.

The purpose of my original post was to get a hive mind assessment of how Nintendo is going to handle this coming holiday.

Sony is beginning to drop money hats again.

Whether or not this is another Game Developers Studio shall be seen.

MS has another weapon it's called Halo 3.

I know people who are buying a 360 just to play this.
Do not underestimate this game.

What will Nintendo's answer be?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Super. Paper. Mario. April. 2007.

Squaresoft made SMRPG.
That is why the story is more then "the princess is kidnapped".

The gameplay above all else shows Nintendo influence on later titles.

139
Zelda 3 was suppose to be in development for the NES before moving to the SNES.
That's another thread for another time.

Well I'm glad to see we're getting more Wii games.
Downside, they all seem to be movie licenses and ports.

Well I guess I can't complain about a drought.

According to Nintendo.com today's update is "A Link to the Past".

Upside- AAA Title released
Downside - I already have this game on GBA.

Well I hope next week is better.

General Gaming / RE:Old question: What PS2 games might I like?
« on: January 19, 2007, 01:53:16 AM »
Lament is better then Curse of Darkness by a long shot.  Lament has better level design with a DMC-like battle system.
Curse of Darkness is 3D SotN with boring level design and mindless button mashing.

Of course my views differ from many,  I believe the N64 Castlevanias are superior to both PS2 games.

If you like survival horror play...

All the Silent Hill games.
Siren, but this game is VERY hard and borderline broken at times.
Fatal Frame(aka Project Zero), these games are kinda hard.  All but FF3 are available on Xbox.

If you like RPGs play...

Dragon Quarter-This game has it's own internal logic, once you learn how to play it's fun and short.
FF12 if you even remotely like WoW or FF play this game.

Star Ocean- Rent before you buy.  It starts out good but it drops you into a 30 hour side quest that pretends to be the main story.
Coupled with a massive illogical twist in the middle and a story that doesn't make much sense when it ends.  You also have a final boss who's special attack that can kill you in one hit.  Be prepared to level grind a lot in this game.  You will either love this game by the time it ends or hate it.

Tale of ...-  You might like the Tales games, but once you've played one of them, you've kinda played them all.

For shmups...

Gradius V
R-Type Final
Capcom Collections 1 and 2 has some nice shmups...

I hope this list helps.

Well at least the Wii has lots of shmups, even if they are all on the VC.

Downside, all R-Type games are HARD!

It will be interesting to see what happens with iPhone.

Cisco is not someone Apple can just sue into submission.(Cisco is worth 2x Apple)
If Apple is smart they will say "Cisco, how many money hats do you want?" and then pay up.

Just a quick update.

Cisco is sueing Apple over the iPhone.
Apparently Cisco has held the trademark since 1996.

This should be interesting...

There is a character in there who redefines the term "giving head"...

I said it before and I'll say it again.

Holidays 2007 will be the real test for Nintendo.
If Nintendo can find a solution to Halo 3 and MGS 4 the Wii will do well.
If not expect by 2008 the Wii to suffer the same fate as the GC.

Note: Edited for grammar.
