Nintendo Gaming / RE:Interview about MySims...uggg

" You guys disgust me. The art style for this game is beautiful beyond all compare. I took one look at the trailer and animations and KNEW that I wanted it. More polygons? They're unnecessary and they'd push people towards realistic styles, big budgets, false priorities, and ultimately less fun. The beautiful personality, efficiency, simplicity and minimalism is a HUGE appeal of this game for me.

BESIDES, 50+% of the people who play Sims are female. What makes you think that they feel the same way hardcore polygon-pushing tech-head gamers do?"

The game style is cute, not beautiful.  And you fail to mention the 50% of the Sims audience being female stat is a PC stat, not a console stat.

I don't have a big problem with MySims, except for the developers on all of these titles stating how the looks are designed for Nintendo gamers.  But I did hear the normal Sims was coming to the Wii too, so that takes care of that.

All kidding aside, sounds like the Godfather is a lot of fun. I honestly hope the game sells so that developers get the idea. Also, if its true the controls actually make the game better they should take note.

Smash Brother is Italian?  All apologies Paisano! (I am too)

The Godfather is great.  I've put about 5 hours in, and I'm only 4.5% through.  I'm trying to take over rackets and move up, from Enforcer to Associate.  The motion controls are great fun...such as when I threw a police chief off a roof.  Put your arms up like youre choking him, then make a pushing motion when you have him at the ledge.  Off he goes!  Great fun to be had.

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle disagrees with you, especially since he "Influenced: Agatha Christie and other detective fiction authors".

However, it should be noted that Doyle was influenced by Edgar Allen Poe, whose "The Murders in the Rue Morgue" debuted in 1841, 49 years before Christie was even born, and is most CERTAINLY a "whodunnit" with quite a twist ending (possibly the first "What a twist!" in history, but I can't verify that).

So let's not be giving Christie credit for ideas when she was already being "influenced" by others, shall we?

Christie's books sold so well because she was the first to introduce "whodunnits" at a 3rd grade reading level. See also RL Stine.

I wasn't arguing about her skills as a writer, my dear child(I'm not even a Christie fan).   And I'll give respect to Sir Doyle, but I don't know why I have to as I never soiled his name in the first place.  I'd assumed you were the one to insult him, if by only saying that no one reads books anymore.  And with that, you show your idiocy.  I merely wanted to point this idiocy out to your peers.  I have a feeling they already know, however.

That's correct I think.  But I somehow thought they were all still under the nflpa because of pensions and the like.

It may not be up to them.  The NFL might have final say on something like that.  Or maybe it is allowed but Tecmo has to pay a fee for it and don't feel it's worth it.

The NFL would require monetary compensation, which I doubt Tecmo, or EA especially, would want to give.

Now, if Tecmo Super Bowl shows up sans NFL license - blame EA.

Blame the NFLPA first.  They would want payment, which would have to come out of EAs pocket.  I doubt a developer would want to pay for another developers players rights.

Dewy's Adventure is getting a fair bit of flack because Konami is making it. They make all sorts of stuff in different styles. But so far ALL of their Wii stuff is cutesy and this is the company that gave the Cube Disney Sports games and nothing else except for one Metal Gear game that was a remake and was farmed off to one of Nintendo's own second parties. If Nintendo didn't make that one deal Konami would have given us nothing but k!ddy games. And I mean real k!ddy games, not something like Mario. Konami was very obvious in letting everyone know that they thought Nintendo's console was for kids. In fact I think they said it outright. So when all of their Wii titles are cutesy and look like they're aimed at kids the assumption is that it's the same thing over again: Konami thinks Nintendo is for kids and their REAL support will go to the other consoles.

True

GM: The Nintendo Wii just came out. Are you planning on doing a version for that system with its revolutionary controller system?

MB: We’re talking about it right now. We’re contemplating and we definitely feel there are some exciting things we can do with the Fight Night franchise and the Wii. When you play Wii Boxing it is a very simple experience and I think that is what they designed it to be just to let you know that you can throw punches. With Fight Night we have an amazing simulation of Boxing and so we need to take those Wii controls and tailor it to what the Fight Night consumer might want to experience. We are looking at it right now and I am sure you will something some time in the future on the Wii.

GM: That’s going to end up being a helluva workout.

MB: (laughing) Absolutely. That’s good. We want people to get a bit of workout. If you like playing sports games and are excited by sports it is a good way to give you the best of both worlds.

Yes sir I did.  They're trying for 1:1 motion...and that was months ago.  I think there are going to be 6 punches for each side, or something like that.  Unless they do end up with true 1:1.  The real impressive thing was that the wiimote was able to distinguish between a right cross punch and a right jab every single time.  So even early on there were no motions that were missed or not read.

But yeah, don't let them fool you.  The full slate of EA sports will be hitting the Wii.  The best title, believe it or not, might be Nascar, which is supposedly going to be online and work with the headset.  Your pit or whatever will be helping you out during the race through the headset.  There may also be two player co-op, online, or splitscreen through the career mode.

For the record, I don't work for EA or obviously I would be breaking NDAs.. And of course, it's so early on everything could change.  *(that's my disclaimer)*

It was a nice joke on Reggie's part, but it didn't reflect the realities of the GDC, where Sony--unfortunately--shined the brightest.

He was talking about Wii vs the PS3 sales worldwide, not the gdc event itself.  That is fairly obvious.

Actually, EA has been making Nintendo specific commercials for the majority of their sports releases since midway through the GC gen.  The idea was to market directly to Nintendo fans who never seemed to buy EA sports games.  Later they added Nintendo characters or Nintendo themed courses to some sports games to achieve this as well.

Do these shows really dictate game sales? I seem to recall GC getting tons of good publicity then tanking, so I wouldn't call it a huge deal breaker for Nintendo. By watching the footage of LittleBigPlanet, I get the awful feeling the game will play like a tech demo, it seems shallow but has neat little visual effects and physics.

Actually, the GC tanked later on in it's cycle.  It started strong though.  The sales were very good, outselling the Xbox, which it ended up getting spanked by later on.

The problem with Heckers ridiculous high school rant is this:  He not only has no idea what art entails, he actually implies indirectly that he is the artless one, not Nintendo.  Artists don't let a lower grade of delivery hinder them.  Art is imagination.  If he truly believes he has been hamstrung because of tech, then it is he that is misinterpreting what art really is.  Hell, there was art on cave walls thousands of years ago, yet he can't fathom art on the Wii?  Preposterous.

Or he was really drunk and trying to be satiric.  Either way, he's a dope, that much is true.

I do believe Nintendo has dropped the ball somewhat with the Mii channel.  I never worried that the Mii channel hadn't been expanded or at the very least updated because I didn't expect Sony/MS to attempt something this grandiose.  Now it just seems plain stupid that Nintendo have basically offered us the appetizer without the main course.  Not being able to mention a peep about anything at this GDC has certainly killed them.  All the press is Sony dominated, and yes it will effect sales since people have been waiting for good news on the PS3.  The Wii still has the momentum, but this could have been the knee on the neck of Sony, instead, the playing field is back to level, and it's Nintendo shooting themselves in the foot once again.  I don't give a rat's ass about company stocks/shares.  I mean, this whole thing just stinks, and frankly I'm pretty much aggravated by it.  We should have been hearing about the online titles coming, Mii channel V.2...and now it appears we'll hear nothing.

FINALLY, did you guys know (you may) that you can suspend play on any VC game by hitting the Home button and returning to the Menu? Even if you turn the console off (and unplug it, I tried), the game will be right where you left it when you click it again. This is SUPER AWESOME.

Yep, I started a thread about in December.

But yeah, it's a great feature.

Nintendo First Person Shooter: Most people (including me) believed Metroid Prime 3 would be the game to go online...however it is debatable if this franchise has what it takes to be a great online experience. However, a game that almost everyone agrees would be great online experience is Geist. With work in balancing the system better than the original series, and pushing the ghost elements further you can have a very unique and exciting online experience. But, will this game happen? I think Nintendo realizes the potential of Geist and Battalion Wars even if they didn't sell well...and I believe Nintendo will give both franchises another chance on Wii.

I actually do think the new Geist game will be the first FPS.  Oops, I've said too much.

Dewy's Adventure?  Now that's something I've never heard about.

You heard of SSX Blur before it was announced?  I think that's the fair analogy.  And of course he can't name the company...most of the time the company doesn't want anything known at all.

The fact remains, you had never heard of SSX Blur AT ALL.
