Nintendo Gaming / Disturbing comments-again
« on: March 02, 2003, 04:37:42 PM »
as is it on all consoles..................and as for gta being more for adults then zelda, or even older people playing gta is false. honestly now, gta is played by young and inexpirienced gamers for the most part. most people who play zelda have been doing so for quite some time now. i only know a few gamers with refined tastes that stil enjoy gta....i dont know if u heard the interview with desin dyack, but he talked about gta a little bit, and he had a lot of things to say that were true. if u havent checked it out yet, i suggest that u do so.

Perfectly put, nolimit

GTA=played more by adults?  Not around here.  Unless 14-18 yr olds are what you consider adults.

I have no foundation for me agreeing with you, but I do.  Now for some paranoia!  What if there are fans of SEGA out there still pissed at NIN. for the NES and SNES?  I know that they would grow up angry and belittle Nintendo any chance they got!  Ok.  Maybe not, but it seems to me alot of people take jabs at Nintendo.  Maybe I was up too late......

I was reading about 'the Hobbit' over at IGN, and the developer made this comment-

Ken Embery:" I think our opinion from the beginning has been that The Hobbit, as a novel, is a younger story, if you will, than the other Lord of the Rings stories. It's more of a children's story, in our view. And I don't mean to overemphasize that. But it's about Bilbo's beginning adventures in Middle Earth and the thought going into it was that The Hobbit would probably skew to a younger audience, which is also why I believe the decision was made to lead with GameCube. The Mario and Zelda audience has historically been a younger audience and so the art style was derived to take advantage of that target market. "

I know i'm over-reacting, but this is just so tiresome...mario and zelda appeals to the 'Everyone' audience, not children.  Has he ever played either game?  It doesn't sound like it.

B&W was inspired in what it tried to do.  I don't think it pulled it off, however.  Supposedly, Unity is Minters 'dream game', so it should be interesting.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo's Strategy is Paying Off

A hardcore gamer is not one who recognizes every fault, but one who knows a good game from a overhyped piece of crap.  The casual gamer is at fault for the simple fact that they are mere lemmings, buying what they are told.  DOA volleyball is a perfect example.  Crap-ola.  My friend and I play it very rarely, but he being a very casual gamer, looked at the back of the box and thought it sounded 'cool'.  Now he realizes what hardcore gamers see.  I knew that the game was trying to capatilize on the hot girls and juggs bouncing theme , trying to pull the immature boys out to buy it.  Who couldn't tell what it was about months before it's release?  The casual gamer.  I buy all kinds of games, but i know when to avoid certain ones, and thats the difference.  I do purchase less than perfect games of course, but I very rarely fall for the targeted marketing practices of some game developers.  But casual gamers will-through no fault of their own.  Its a hobby to them, like anything else.

Stupid American gamers?  huh... It takes time and advertising.  X-box is a hype machine, which is why it outsold the GC.  And lets not forget the 2 free, albeit crappy, games that were given over x-mas with the x-box.  Nintendo has plenty of support and will overtake microsoft within the next 6 months-to year.  I only buy 1 console, and i'm happy with my GC.  I can get GTA3 and GT:VC on my PC.  I can get Halo[i believe ] on my PC.  Where else am I going to get Metroid , Eternal Darkness, Mario, Zelda, animal Crossing , starfox , RE, Pikmin and countless others?  Nowhere except GC.  GC is fine.  Hopefully this EA and Nintendo revelation will bear its fruits at E3.  All looks well, in my opinion.

According to IGN, take-two [gotham games] release list for the cube is Piglets big game[i think] and conflict desert storm.  Mafia will be released for x-box and ps2.  A Serious sam sequal was mentioned, but for the pc.  Question is, what happened to Mafia and the Serious Sam game GC was supposed to get?  Just an oversight on the release list?  Does anyone else remember these games being confirmed, as i do?

cubedcanuck--you said' COMPARED TO THE PS2 AND XBOX IT IS...DEAL WITH IT '

If you had said the 'perception is...', perhaps i could better comprehend  your absurd comment.  Lets just face facts, Konami is coming up real small, and its not just because of the ps2 userbase.

cubedcanuck---i'm assuming you think that 'M' rated games make an adult console?  M rated[for violence] games are, for the most part, geared towards immature gamers.  If you don't think so, than obviously you haven't been to your local EB, and you ignore all the little kids who like crap games like STATE OF EMERGENCY and such.  Nintendo has plenty of great games that arent kiddie, i should know, i'm 29.  You deal with that.

As far as Konami and Disney licensed games, they took over for Rare.  Oh okay, so then they don't have to make any other games worth a damn?   Thats my complaint, not that they make the Disney games, that thats all they make.  Can you disagree with that?

If it was only a business decision, then Konami WOULD release it on the GC.  Nintendo fans have always supported the Castlevania series, including the recent GBA versions.  It's pretty pathetic that Konami can't see that the GC has hundreds of thousands of Castlevania fans.  Konami does have a grudge , so far, against Nintendo Gc,  -they think it's a kiddie machine.  Hence, Disney sports.

This is going to sound pitiful, but what the hey. I am 29 and a life-long Nintendo geek. I had an unusual thought today at the local MS headquarters[EB]. I found myself looking at cube games, picking up Hunter: TR and saying, 'nah, this game got bad reviews' and putting it down. Then it dawned on me. The internet and gaming mags have ruined my favorite past time-video games. It used to be i would buy a game because i liked the premise. To be honest, there weren't alot of reviews available back in the 80's[ugh...] except for Nintendo Power, and that wasn't even a mag. yet, just a pamphlet! I bought many a frustrating game, but i found something in each that i liked, sometimes even adored. That doesn't have a shot in he!! of happening now a days. This is not anyones fault, just the natural evolution of a hobby that became more mainstream, if not expected. But i do remember playing the old NES game, 'Athena' , for hours, even though it was very mediocre....no trading 'em in back then, your stuck with it! So you learned to like every game you purchased and played them until you beat them. Now i cant stand a game , and guess what? Its going back and i get a new one! Some would say thats better, but i'm not so sure. 'Kid Niki' would 've ever got beaten if it was that easy to return games. Or 'Deadly Towers'. Or 'Tag-Team Wrestling'[super champ!] Or 'Wizardry'. You get the point? Todays thoughts brought to you by: ONE ANGRY GAMER

That was one of my favorite all-time games.  I wanna say DATA EAST made it, but i can't remember.  That also was the first of its kind to deal with the matrix and hacking.  Great game.  I wouldn't mind just updating the graphics with the same story, it was that fun.[besides the extreme slowdown and screen flicker]

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo, the dare devil?
« on: February 16, 2003, 01:38:55 PM »
Since when has Zelda taken anything from Final Fantasy?  OOT was possibly the best game ever made, and had little to nothing to do with the FF games.  Also, LOZ- 1987  when was the first FF-89-90?[in jap]

As far as taking risks, they have taken some big ones since releasing the GC.  First off , LOZ:WW is a huge risk.  Nintendo was assured of incredible sales if it stayed as close to the series as possible.  To completely change the look of one of the best games EVER is daring.  AC and METROID PRIME  are other examples.  Metroid-people were clamoring for a metroid game for about 10 years. And then they change it to first person, which everyone hated!  But they did, that is daring.  To me, changing a game that will sell if you just threw out the same old formula is taking a risk.  A daring move.

What's a Dreamcast? Is that like Beta VCRs? 8-track tapes?
It doesn't really matter how "beautiful" or "great" a piece of equipment might be. What matters is how many units it sells, so it makes a lot of profit for its maker. Dreamcast Failed in that mission.

Ditto Nintendo64. If GameCube continues losing third-party/exclusive titles, it too will join the trash heap of history. Obviously I don't want that to happen, so YES I do care when I hear news about developers bailing ship

The N64 did quite well for Nintendo, financially.  Perhaps you should see some of the software sales...

Maybe if they got rid of all the bugs in NFL2K3, I'd agree it was great.  But madden wooped its butt for good reason...how many seasons can my gosh darn safety lead the league in punt and kick returns?...and he wasn't returning anything!  How about 10 sacks all year for a TEAM?!    How about a WR going from 78 to a 58 in 1 year, when hes just 24?!  Sorry about the rant, but i'm fed up with people acting like its the be-all endall.  What i see when i play NFL2K3, is great ideas in some respects, with horrid execution in the most noticeable areas.
