If you dont want to get teh games then dont, but dont act liek it was a dumb idea for Nintendo to release the games the way they are when so many people think contrary to that.

Really? Because I see a lot of people who don't like various things about the virtual console. It's not as if I'm the only complainer amongst seas of praise for the VC. On the contrary, you'll find people who like it mixed in with a few that don't, but you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who has absolutely nothing bad to say about it. I've read too many articles, listened to too many podcasts, and read to many message boards to not know that the popular opinion right now is that the VC is falling short of its incredible potential.

After 6 weeks, I fail to see how the VC is falling short of its potential.  I chalk this talk up to the rather tedious "I want it all now" attitude more than a lack of quality games.

Madden 07 certainly wasn't a straight port.  And Blur is looking mighty pretty to me.  Who cares about bump mapping?  Have you gone back and played Tricky?  It looks nowhere near as good as SSX 3, yet it's a much better game.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Now this guy has the right idea (concerning the VC)
« on: December 28, 2006, 07:49:24 AM »
I still cannot fathom how people have such a huge problem with the VC prices as if they're obligated to buy them.  I think the prices are fine as is.  Would I pay $5 for Soccer?  Nope.  Nor would I pay $2.  I just don't care about the game.  I will gladly pay $8 for both Super Castlevania, Street Fighter II, and $5 for SMB.   $21 for 3 of my favorite games of all time is pretty much a  bargain to me.

Get a stinking job!

Isn't the Fire Emblem text entirely in Japanese?  I doubt they would translate it for the US market.

The only tempting game on that list, for me, is TJ&E because it's multiplayer and due to random level generation has a great deal of replay value. CV is likewise nice, but I'd only play it through once and wouldn't afterwards be able to sell it back to a store so I don't see the need to spend money on it.

Now I have to question Pap64's claim of you "enjoying a lot of good games."  Obviously not.  Every one of these games is worth the money, hands down.

You're definitely in the minority there.

I think he's being an a-hole.  Like "Look how hip and cool I am!  I made a sarcastic remark about America!  Yay!"

How original.

Bigger games are going no where.  This is just like the film industry.  All of these smaller games can be compared to the independent films that got all the pub in the early 70's and 90's.  People reacted in much the same way-"the big films are dead.  Budgets will decrease and independents will open the doors for more original content."  Was it true?  Not so much, no.  Independents do get more attention now, but the bigger films still have the market.  Like a certain trilogy that people really seemed to like recently.  But after each independent cycle, of say 7 years, a cycle of huge blockbusters follow.  Games huge in scope will always have a built in audience, and as long as they do they'll remain a staple of any console.

Japan also doesn't care for Metroid by the way, so let them have their little mini games while I enjoy the "big" games.

Please Please Please do not call this Megaton. Seriously, every time someone comes up with some crazy idea of what Nintendo's secretly doing and labels it a Megaton announcement coming soon, the hype trains speed out of control, even crazier and improbable 'what-ifs' ideas get spun, and by the time Nintendo actually announces something there's no possible way it could have lived up to the massive and pointless hype, and we all end up kicking ourselves.

It is currently said completely tongue in cheek for that very reason, good sir.

Other games I want (other than the obvious ones) are Zombies ate my neighbors *BWAH HA HA HA!* and Lost Vikings. Both of these were great two player SNES games that I had a great time playing with friends, ah, fond childhood memories.

Great games.  Two of my favorites, actually.  I think they'll come to the VC eventually.

All of your reasoning makes perfect sense.  I actually believe it'll happen as well, because while Apple will likely never release a home console, Sony and MS are constantly trying to steal some of Apples home electronic market.  This gives Apple an inside avenue into video games, at least supporting an opponent of it's main competition.

I especially like the Quick Time/Akamia connection.  Good stuff.

well, we should have expected this, really.

Shadowrun is incredible.  Were it not for the slow down and screen flicker(remember that?) during the last third, it would be the best game I ever played.

But all of those games listed are great too.

How about...
Lagoon
Y's
Ultima
Wizardry

The list is endless.

Unfortunately I have to disagree with you about Genesis vs. Super NES RPGs. There should be no question that the Super NES had more, and Square was certainly churning out great ones at the time. The Phantasy Star games and...what's that other one, Shining Soul? Those are Genesis RPGs I've meant to play but even if I could get into them, is that it? What am I missing that could possibly compete with the Super NES RPGs? That may be my opinion but I don't think the Genesis was an RPG haven.

True.  The Snes is remembered for the RPG selection.  If you count strategy games like the Romance of the Three Kingdoms or Uncharted Waters, the list is around 100 strong.  There's about 50 straight up rpgs that I counted.

Did anyof you even know that Sega madea 6 Botton ARCADE PAD thatw as actualy more popular than the standar 3 botton pad!??!?!?! seriously SNES SUCKED when it came to controlling fighitng games because of the shoulder bottons, Genesis had that right.

Do you realize they made it because they hadto?  The Snes had no such need, and from what I recall it looked better as well.

I happen to be in the pro Red Steel camp.  But it took me 3 hours to get the feel for it, but once I did, I loved the controls.

I would love to see Fear brought over, but I wouldn't count on it.

It's all averaged out.  Say you buy A Link To The Past for $8.  That's a bargain, right?  Now you "overspend" on say, Mario Brothers for $5.  You just spent $13 frigging dollars for Mario Brothers AND A Link To The Past.  Sounds good to me.
