General Chat / 60 minutes:Nintendo-less
« on: August 06, 2003, 04:11:33 PM »
The show was about video games and the slant towards more mature games recently.  They interviewed Gates and the head of the XBOX 'division', forgot his name.   Anyway, so i watch and its no big deal, until i hear BMX XXX come up in conversation.  60 minutes points out that Xbox has the full version, while Sony opted for the clean version.(no mention of Nintendo)  They then do a ridiculous interview with the 'creaters' of the 'game' from Acclaim.  When talking about the market, Sony and M$ are mentioned as competitors, but not Nintendo, once again.  Now, i understand Nintendo isn't known for mature games, but they have possibly the 2 best last year in ED and RE(alright, RE isn't the best, but it certainly deserves attetion).  My question is:  What are the sales for GC versus XBOX in the U.S.?  Is it so bad that they're not even a blip on the radar?  I know its only 60 minutes, but thats like free advertising , and it appears Nintendo still needs to learn this.  Who would've thought that an episode of 60 minutes , with the subject being video games, wouldn't mention Nintendo?  I guess i'm just old and cranky...

Nintendo Gaming / I've come from the past to bring you the future
« on: July 22, 2003, 07:29:10 PM »
My dear gaming elite, what has transpired in my absence?  Must i return to simple rhetoric and mundane 'findings', such as 'Nintendo is in trouble!' and 'What Nintendo needs is...'.  Lets take a look at the not so long ago history of your favorite video game company, Nintendo.  As recent as 8 human years ago, Nintendo was number 1 in the world.  As recent as 20 human years ago, Nintendo saved the gaming 'religion' from extinction.  The N64 was a grave mistake, if i may join the previously ridiculed  'What has Nintendo f'd up' game.  Many great empires have doused themselves in a gasoline of arrogance.  By believing the 'lemmings' would lap up whatever they released, they prevented themselves an opportunity to widen their dominance.  In some respects, they were right.  The software sales for the AAA games were better than any on another console.  Sadly, they were too few or too far between.  The Playstation, AKA beezlebub, beat the N64 to the punch, and with the more conveniant media , the compact disc, made the game creating process much easier for developers.  The cartridge went the way of the dinosaur, blown out of the water by the new gaming gods.  So, here we are.  6 years have elapsed since that fatal error, and what has Nintendo done?  They have set the table for their return to dominance.  By being more aggressive, Nintendo now has major developers back on the bandwagon.  Maybe not completely, but thats what the 'N5' is for.  The GC was the framework.  The 'N5' will be the 'rapture'.  With a new youthful leader now in charge, Nintendo is poised to take on the gaming  world head on, with aggression, something they were missing since the NES days of old.  When you are not challenged, you become complacent, content.  When the star dims , thats the test of ones toughness.  Nintendo is back on track, and they're looking to reclaim the lost souls of '96-2003.

Nintendo Gaming / Metroid...for x-mas?
« on: July 18, 2003, 04:58:35 PM »
I just played through Prime for the second time, after taking a 3 month break.  It is even more fun the second time through.  I noticed a lot more of the small things.

So, in a late night stupor, my buddy comes by.  Hes the manager over at Gamestop.(punks)  He says to me "are you going to get the next Metroid?"  Of course, was my response.  He then goes on and on about how a Metroid 1 remake is going to be released during the xmas holidays.  I look at him like hes an ass, as usual.  But then it dawns on me.  He has been correct before, even after my ridicule.  He tells me Capcom is making it.  I take my last swig of ---/insert adult beverage here/--- and say 'whatever"  and tumble to bed.  I wish it was true, but wouldnt we have heard something by now?  Then i was thinking, maybe its a preorder thing for the sequel to Prime, like Zelda.  Anyway, i certainly would enjoy a full fledged remak of the first Metroid.  Now give me Kid Icarus, and i'll retire right now....

...or look forward to bashing here on these forums?  I know theres certain people i look forward to responding to , because they annoy me, so i give them an extra dose of sarcasm,.  But theres also a couple of people who i agree with a lot, and enjoy jumping to their aid.   Lets face facts, we all want our point of veiw out there, so give me a few names of the best and worst you 'deal' with on these forums.  I'll give mine after a few are already out there.....but mentioning me as your favorite will save you from my venomous wrath.....and wrath it shall be....

Nintendo Gaming / Gotcha force...
« on: May 22, 2003, 01:15:27 PM »
I saw a preview for this game on X-Play, and i have to say, it looks like a lot of fun.  They showed 4 player, but i was wondering if maybe we'd get some LAN as well.   I didn't like how this game was classified as a deathmatch for kids game, but seeing it in action, i think it may be a winner.  Did anyone else see it in action?  Maybe i'm just hoping it'll be good...

Nintendo Gaming / Just buy Sega already!
« on: May 20, 2003, 10:17:13 AM »
Why wouldn't Nintendo just acquire Sega, make them a 2nd party, and let them do their thing?  If Nintendo is truly a bottom line company, what would be the downside? you get exclusive Sega games, let them take as long as they need to make them, gain all the Sega fanboys into your user base...etc.. I just think they should jump on the chance.  Maybe just 'invest' in them.  It is too good a move for them not to be considering this.  I realize Nintendo will almost never just outright buy a company, but these are the times when they could really gain alot, and lose little.  Imagine if the next Nintendo system held Sega exclusively.  I just wish it could happen.  Its exactly what they need to gain an edge next generation.

Nintendo Gaming / Sega -- Namco--up in smoke
« on: May 08, 2003, 09:48:03 AM »
Namco has decided it doesnt want to proceed with the merger.  So this leaves Sega still looking for a willing partner.  Now we know M$ is all over it.  But hopefully Nintendo will step in, although it's against what they would normally do.  Sega supposedly has an announcement at E3 regarding their future.  Lets hope Nintendo realizes the huge draw having Sega as a exclusive partner would be...

Nintendo Gaming / Somebody explain Pilotwings to me
« on: May 02, 2003, 04:13:01 PM »
I never owned either version, and I don't know what all this 'buzz' is about.  Could somebody explain exactly what kind of game this is?

Nintendo Gaming / Dragonquest-MIA?
« on: May 02, 2003, 08:31:07 AM »
I found it a little unusual that when Square-Enix unveiled their lineup for E3, DQ was absent.   Not only that, but the Xbox was the only platform that they had no games for .  I know DQ was previously announced for the PS2, but could M$ have pulled a power move and secured the rights?  It just seems weird not to mention the biggest game, or second biggest, in your lineup for the biggest show of the year.  Or perhaps i'm just looking too hard...

Nintendo Gaming / Sega sports
« on: April 28, 2003, 06:27:28 AM »
I hate to kick a dead horse, but what were the sales numbers for these games on GC compared to XBOX?  I don't really like the games, besides NHL2k3, but how could the sales be hugely different for these 2 systems?  I find it hard to believe that they sold great anywhere, and to take them off just the GC seems like a pretty stupid move to me.  They should at least recognize that NHL2k4 will sell, as its better than EA's franchise.  It just doesn't seem to be a good busisness move to cut ALL sports games for one console.

Nintendo Gaming / Chance for another Zelda at E3?
« on: April 23, 2003, 11:07:12 AM »
I think the chances are pretty good for both a new Zelda and Mario this year. I think they've been working on these games since they started the others.   I hope that they DON'T scale down the difficulty of Mario.  I enjoyed the challenge, but for some reason, people complain and Nintendo is listening.  D'oh!  And Zelda, cell shaded or not, will be great as we all know...

This is topic 667(had to get rid of the number of the beast)

Nintendo Gaming / True crime: Walken
« on: April 18, 2003, 06:47:56 AM »
Christopher Walken has been confirmed to be lending his voice to this game, as well as Gary Oldman as the Russian bad guy.  How great is that?  This game better live up to my expectations.  I just hope it'll be a long and engrossing story line, not a cheap 5-10 hour game.

General Chat / What was your first exposure to gaming?
« on: April 12, 2003, 06:36:37 AM »
I am just curious to hear the circumstances in which you first decided that video games were for you.  I know my first game was Combat for the Atari 2600.  My dad bought me the Atari 2600 and I soon was addicted to games.  From that day in 1980 , forward, i have played virtuallly non stop.  I took a brief break in 1998, but I don't remember why.  Anyway I've owned the Atari 2600,Colecovision,NES,Turbografix-16,Gameboy,SNES,N64,PS2, and the Gamecube.  My favorite is the SNES.  It had some of the greatest games ever.

General Chat / Anyone from Jersey/Philly area?

Nintendo Gaming / Resurrect Double Dragon
« on: April 08, 2003, 12:40:40 AM »
..with 4 player co-op/.  A nice side scrolling beat 'em up in 3-d with co-op 4 players would be great.  It would be cool if you could have 2 vs 2 in each level as well.  Double Dragon was never done justice on consoles.  I think it's about time to do it. Taito, are you around anymore?

Nintendo Gaming / Splinter Cell: 9.1
« on: April 04, 2003, 10:27:28 PM »
IGN has given their review.  It says that its superior in controls and has added cut scenes to make more sense of the story.  The GBA features are supposedly great, so , cubedcanuck, as you may be right on this one.  The graphics are toned down from the xbox version, but still 'beautiful'.  My only wonder is why it's 9.1 when it got 9.6 on the box?  I guess it's not a big difference.  But it sounded like everything was tweaked to be better except the graphics, which I would think would earn it around the same score.

Another reason to work O.T. this week....ugh

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Kart in June?
« on: April 02, 2003, 11:40:00 AM »
My dopey friend, who I previously mentioned in the 'other systems' forum under 'The end of the world', has told me that Mario Kart will be getting a release date of 'June'.  The only thing he said is NIN waiting to get closer to E-3.  So, at EB, (he's the manager) they've been given a vague heads up of around June.  He's told me it's definate, but can I believe somebody so ignorant to everything NIN.?

General Gaming / Anyone have Red Faction 2?

.. For either the GC or the PS2?  I was thinking of getting it, but would like some input from someone who owns it.

Nintendo Gaming / The card memory card debacle-re-revisited
« on: March 31, 2003, 05:39:38 PM »
I just bought ASB 2004, and I have to say, it appalls me to use a full Memory Card 251 to save the freaking game.  Is it just Acclaim's usual laziness, or is there something I don't know?  Madden , for instance, uses 1 MC 59 for franchise(still alot), you mean to tell me EA can do it, but Acclaim can't?  I'd like to know exactly why they can't do something about this.  I called Acclaim, and the representative told me ' that's why the game is only 39.99'.  Gee, thanks.

I needed to rant, so thank you.

General Gaming / The end of the world...
« on: March 29, 2003, 10:39:50 PM »
...is near. My friend has officially crossed the line.  here's what he said:  "The xbox is the best system because it has the best games."  When I asked him what they were, he said HALO is the best game ever.  I told him the reason I like NIN, because you can't play METROID, ZELDA, MARIO OR RE anywhere besides the GC.  He actually had the nerve to say that those games are for the people who like adventure games, but everyone else likes xbox.  Now, this dude used to like Nintendo .  What happened?  I asked him why Xbox and not GC, and he gave me 1 reason...HALO.  I then asked him what other games are good, but he didn't name one.  I pestered him for a good 2 hours, and all he kept saying is, if you like those kiddie games, then good luck.  He also works for GAMESPOT(manager), so maybe he is just brainwashed, I mean to not come up with more than 1 game is pretty ridiculous.   I came up with at least 5 exclusive games for the GC .  Why can't he face facts?   Am I wrong?

Nintendo Gaming / Got my copy at 12 am , EST!
« on: March 24, 2003, 07:51:14 PM »
EB opened at midnight  and let gamers get their greedy little mits on Zelda a bit early(in Jersey at least).  There were around 20 people there when I left.  I've just spent about an hour and a half with it so far, and it is incredible.

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Golf release date
« on: March 19, 2003, 08:51:28 PM »
It will be July 28th, here in the U.S.  That is good to hear.  I wasn't expecting it so soon.  However,
F-zero is now officially slated for August 25th, which kind of sucks.  Wario World is June 23rd, I believe.  Plus alot of great releases in the next 2 months.  It's going to be an expensive year.
