Yeah the only online enabled Monster Hunter that ever came out in the US was Monster Hunter 1 and that didn't have any online fees. The only explanation why they are doing this is because Capcom built their own dedicated servers for Monster Hunter on Wii. All the PSP Monster Hunter games are ad-hoc so the only way to play online with those is "tunneling".

Monster Hunter G will be pay-to-play in Japan.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=17949

This morning, Capcom revealed the pricing structure for the Japan-only title, Monster Hunter G. Players who purchase the title will be given a fourteen-day free trial, after that they will have to spend Wii Points to purchase a subscription.  Three subscription options will be available: 800 Wii Points for 30 days, 1500 Wii Points for 60 days, and 2000 Wii Points for 90 days.

Though the American Monster Hunter titles offered free online play, the pay-to-play structure has been present in every version of the popular series in Japan.

While this news may be disheartening for some, it should be noted that Christian Svensson of Capcom USA ruled out any possibility of the title releasing in North America.

Goddamn it why do publishers insist on telling us the shipping dates of games instead of the actual release date?

Because it's the only solid date they could give, some stores recieve fewer copies however they are ready to sell the next day or the day after or there are stores like bestbuy that buy in bulk and wait for a bigger shipment later down the week. Publishers such as Nintendo can never really tell when a store is ready to sell their games.

TalkBack / Spore Hero Details Unveiled
« on: March 10, 2009, 04:27:48 PM »
MTV’s Multiplayer blog sheds some light on the mysterious Wii exclusive Spore title.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=17940

In a recent interview with MTV’s Stephen Totillo, Lucy Bradshaw, general manager of The Sims and Spore series confirmed the existence of Spore Hero, a brand new game in the Spore series built specifically from the ground up for Wii.

The creature creator found in the PC version of Spore will be present in Spore Hero as will the pointer driven editing tools. According to the team, the Wii was chosen due to its pointing functionality, as it allowed them to mimic the PC's editing interface.

While the original Spore title started you off as primordial ooze, in Spore Hero your creature will already be in an evolved state and will arrive on a new planet after its original home planet was destroyed by a catastrophic event. The goal of Spore Hero is to shape this newfound planet into your own through a number of quests and adventures. Players will interact with other creatures on the planet during their adventures in social and combative ways.

The evolution mechanic from the original Spore will be retained, though in Spore Hero to evolve the player will have to complete special "Evolutionary Quests." Once these quests are completed not only will the player’s creature evolve, it will be able to learn new abilities such as jumping. These abilities will allow the player to reach new areas.

While EA didn't show screenshots of the title, Bradshaw promised that it would suit the Wii well with a "cheerful experience that suits Nintendo's image." Bradshaw also revealed that the team is looking at Wii MotionPlus to provide better motion controls in hopes that they can provide an experience that rivals Nintendo's own efforts on the system.

Spore Hero is set for release sometime this year on Wii.

The main problem I have with God of War is that at it's core it's just a button masher and to me it doesn't feel rewarding.

Don't you have a  PS3 that's PS2 compatible?

Yes but I don't want to face the corrupted save games of doom in Persona!

I never experienced that, if you are that paranoid always save twice (in 2 different save slots) that's what I do, whenever the PS3 saves on a virtual PS2 memory card the HD access light flickers for about a second.

I was surprised that they thought MotionPlus enhances both the IR pointer and motion sensing.

TalkBack / No MotionPlus Support for Conduit Explained
« on: March 09, 2009, 04:01:47 PM »
High Voltage Software explains why they dropped Wii MotionPlus support.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=17933

When The Conduit was announced, High Voltage Software indicated plans to incorporate Wii MotionPlus and WiiSpeak support into the upcoming first-person shooter title. However, several  months passed by with no further mention of it, and news eventually made the rounds that Wii MotionPlus support had been dropped. As it turns out,  Wii MotionPlus was incorporated into the title at one point, but after a couple of tests High Voltage decided to drop support of the peripheral.

Eric Nofsinger explained to 1UP that the main reason it was dropped is because it didn’t improve IR tracking, and ultimately added nothing to the experience. High Voltage hoped that Wii MotionPlus would enhance IR tracking, in addition to enhancing the Wii Remote’s motion-sensing abilities. Since Wii MotionPlus logically offers possibilities with melee weapons, they actually prototyped a few melee weapons that would take advantage of the peripheral.  However, due to the game’s June release date there wasn’t time to fully incorporate them into the final product.  The developers ultimately scrapped Wii MotionPlus support and these specific melee weapons.

Nofsinger confirmed that WiiSpeak support is still included, and described to 1UP that it took a lot of effort for High Voltage’s audio engineers to do so.  On the bright side, Nofsinger confirmed that WiiSpeak is a fantastic fit for the game, and the efforts have paid off since it is an excellent feature for online multiplayer.

Smash Bros. isn't really GANON but at least it goes for proper representations.

True, but still since this is a quick side project for Konami I don't see it as a major entry in the series.

Then again, I am not a big CV fan, so maybe I have to be a major fan in order to be disgusted with the designs.

Actually Eighting did the development.

I'm curious -- do you really think this kind of connectivity between Wii and DS is a good thing?  It seems like a craven marketing ploy to require owning two different games to unlock everything in each.  Maybe it's not so bad when there's an alternate method (as I think was done for some of the unlocks in Metroid Prime).

Not really since it just unlocks a few things on the Wii version and a few things on the DS version it's nothing major. The most complex use of DS connectivity on the Wii is Pokemon Battle Revolution.

I disagee with only 1 point, It's actually really playable with with the wii remote+ nunchuk, try nunchuk style B the only thing you have to shake the wii remote for is to do your hyper attack and shaking the nunchuk to do a dodge. However I do agree that the other 2 nunchuk style controls are awful since it's not really fun shaking all the time to do your basic attack.

I would of given this game a 7.5 personally. It's made by a respectable fighting developer 8ing which also made Tatsunoko vs Capcom, the gamecube and wii naruto fighting games and bloody roar series.

General Chat / Re: Will buy an HD TV soon; Need advice
« on: March 09, 2009, 10:45:29 AM »

1. I am planning on buying a 32 inch set since my room is not big enough to buy a big TV and I need to save money. The ones that I checked are usually 400 + to 500 + dollars. What's the best price to invest in a set of this size?

The best price for an HDTV is one that you can work around your budget, you should set yourself an upper limit on what you're willing to invest in.
Quote
2. What is the best brand?

If you're going for performance Sony, Panasonic, Samsung if you're being more budget conscious Vizio is pretty decent.

Quote
3. I have both a Wii and an XBOX 360. What do I need in order to maximize their performance on the HD TV?
I recall that you have an elite 360 which came with an HDMI cables and component cables so you are set, for Wii you can get a set of component cables which can run you around 20 dollars.

Quote
4. I am confused when some ads say that the TV is 16:9 widescreen, but others show the TV being clearly widescreen but not mentioning it. Is there a difference between the two that I need to know>
HDTVs always are 16:9 widescreen format, but take note that there are smaller flat screen TVs that are 4:3 SDTVs just because it's flatscreen doesn't mean it's HDTV but those are usually TVs that are less than 15".

Quote
5. I have a satellite service which is digital. Do I need anything in order to get my programming in HD and, if available widescreen? I know that Cartoon Network show some of its shows in HD and widescreen, so do I need anything else?
You're satellite box that's connected to your TV will need to be HD capable the easiest way to tell is if it has a slot for component cables and/or HDMI to take advantage of it you need a set of component or HDMI cables to connect from the box to the TV and well obviously a HD capable receiver box.

7. What cables do I need when I purchase my set?

See answer above

Does the printer recognize that there is color ink? Usually printer software allows you to check ink levels. Also did you make sure whatever you are printing you didn't set to print in black and white in the preferences?

Nope. It'll be DDR with RE characters and 80's tunes including (of course) "Thriller."

Unlockable characters will include HUNK, Tofu, Lisa Trevor, and a bikini-clad Ashley Graham.

I would so buy that.

TalkBack / Arkedo Plans Big Bang Mini Wii Sequel
« on: March 09, 2009, 12:54:30 AM »
Arkedo is looking to start a party on the Wii with a Big Bang.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=17904

After two successful releases on the Nintendo DS, Arkedo is setting their eyes on the Wii with a console sequel to Big Bang Mini. Talking to N-Sider, Arkedo President Camille Guermonprez said that his company was "learning the Wii right now" and was hoping for a follow-up to their unique DS shooter that would be "extended and redesigned for Wii and its audience." This would include additional multiplayer modes, as well as a solo-oriented arcade mode revisiting five worlds from the DS original.

Arkedo also teased that the arcade mode might feature a co-operative mode inspired by Super Mario Galaxy. Talking about one idea for the sequel, Guermonprez wondered what would happen if a player's four-year-old daughter wanted to play along. "Does she want to help you fight the baddies," he pondered, "or does she want to have fun tickling them so they can get crazy and annoy you more?"

Guermonprez confirmed that the sequel would control like a horizontal scrolling shooter, however details of the game at this point are scarce because the title is very early in development.

Currently Arkedo is planning to release the game sometime in 2010. While they didn't tell N-Sider the name of the project, earlier this month Yubaba, the music composer of Big Bang Mini, had a 2009 listing under the sound design and music project listings section of their MySpace page for a game referred to as Big Bang Party.

So, no review, almost no friendcode posts, seems like noone cares... except for the wide masses since the game is very high on the charts everywhere (#1 throughout Europe, #3 in the US last Wednesday). What happened, is it *gasp* a casual game?

We have a friendcode thread up for Onslaught just no one really posts in it. I care about the game since it's pretty good while it's nothing amazing it's a fun game and impressive what Hudson accomplished with the size constraints on Wiiware.

Oh wow, I didn't notice that the Wii version is actually a FREAKING PORT of the DS version!
I was gonna get both, glad I read this thread. I'll just get the DS version (and maybe the Wii one used in a few months if I can find it cheap).

Technically it's not a port it's an emulation of the DS. I wish Square made something different for the Wii version or a different game as a whole.

It kind of sucks the wind out of their "We made a Wii and DS game that is cross platform compatible!" statement. It's not really that big of a deal when its the DS game on emulation. I would have thought that some things would have been different or even some extra features added from one or the other.

Well it still is cross compatible just not to the level of what people were expecting. By the way Nintendo Power gave the DS version a 6.5 and the Wii version a 6.0.
