NWR Feedback / The G Word...
« on: December 30, 2005, 04:45:48 AM »
You cannot say g-and then-ay on the forum? Yet there is a topic with the word in the title...I think I understand the reasoning behind not letting people write it, but shouldn't the topic title be changed too?

Nintendo Gaming / The D-Pad...
« on: December 06, 2005, 11:13:12 AM »
Nintendo has used the exact same d-pad (just a different size) on every controller since the NES. Yet on the DS it changed, and now the Rev is different again. Why did thye change it, and what do you guys think?

General Chat / That Monkey Movie...
« on: December 05, 2005, 07:13:40 PM »
So um...apparantly King Kong is really really good. I had a few friends who attended the L.A. critics screening tonight (yes, they're legit) and they all loved it. Apparantly the audience did too, big clapping for Jackson, Watts and Serkis. Anyone excited about this?

Nintendo Gaming / I suck!
« on: December 01, 2005, 03:35:16 PM »
I figured it was a good idea to have a thread for sucky people like myself to smack talk themselves!

I've won ONE out of like 30 RACES.

General Gaming / The End of Console Gaming?
« on: November 23, 2005, 03:37:56 PM »
It seems every five (or four...thanks MS...) years we hear about the end of PC gaming. With super powered consoles and all the attention going to them, everyone syas it's the end of the computer side of games. Thankfully this time no such nonsense is being propagated. However, it got me thinking. The 360 interacts with computers, iPods, photos, everything basically. It's essentially a media PC minus the other functionality. Microsoft has expressed their intent of furthering this integration in the future, and in further generations. So...how long before there's no point in owning a console? Think about it, the only difference between PC and consoles is where and how you play them. But with the 360 controller available for computers, what's the difference? If the future is true integration then I'm going to be buying a computer that outputs to my HD TV. Computers play games as well as consoles, but consoles don't do computer stuff as well.

So...good or bad? Well, for Nintendo fans it's less than ideal. But, on an integrated entertainment system that is computer based Nintendo wouldn't have to take a risk with things like the remote. They could just release it for $30 and make Mario, Zelda, etc. require it. Insta-sell! Obviously this is a few generations ahead, but still. Microsoft doesn't make many games, they make their money off of hardware. Well, not really. Basically Microsoft just doesn't make money off of video games. But, hypothetically they intend to with the 360. They intend to end their losses this generation. But in doing, in trying this integration, have they single handled started the end of consoles? Sony also wants integration, Kutagari would put a nuclear fission plant in the PS3 if they could. But for them it makes sense. Sony makes hardware like laptops and things, Microsoft doesn't.

So, in trying to win this generation have Microsoft ruined the others?

Nintendo Gaming / USB Adapter Price!
« on: November 03, 2005, 10:22:30 PM »
Amazing.ca has the price for the USB adapter listed as 42.99, regular 57.99. This means it should be on sale in the US for either 29.99 or 34.99. Neither of those are bad prices, and certainly more reasonable than the UK price!

Nintendo Gaming / Harvest Moon: Online!
« on: November 01, 2005, 01:13:34 PM »
http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000837066136/#comments

Joystiq is reporting that Marvelous has announced a next-gen version of Harvest Moon online. The system hasn't been announced. Considering there has only been ONE Harvest Moon game not originally on a Nintendo system, would it be a stretch to assume this would be for Revolution? Especially since they've jumped onto the DS bandwagon and the games sell far better on Nintendo's stuff than the Sony stuff.

Sounds cool. Stealing chickens! And it's an ideal game for online.

NWR Feedback / Random Thoughts Thread
« on: October 21, 2005, 07:37:58 PM »
Another forum I visit has taken to using random thoughts threads in their subforums. This is very useufl for anyone who has a post or two that isn't really worth a whole topic, but has no thread. For instance I've been playing Nintendogs and wanted to share my thoughts, but it's hardly worth ressurecting the old thread or making a new one.

Would this be an ok thing to start in the DS subforum?

General Gaming / Microsoft Targets Moms

http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000867063193/

I find this interesting. They offer the most daunting system in history in price, setup, requirements and game genres, and they expect to attract moms?

Gonna have to give this one to Nintendo.

Nintendo Gaming / Mario Kart DS - The Release Thread
« on: October 12, 2005, 11:36:07 PM »
With the old thread for MK alredy a couple pages down and hundreds long, it's probably time to start a fresh one. The game releases a month from Friday and it's going to be HUGE. I believe every Mario Kart game has sold over 2,000,000 copies (Double Dash is less than 100,000 away so I'll wager it passes it). Is there any reason to beleive the first online version won't do the same? This is going to be a huge Christmas for the Big N's handheld division!

Here's an article with some big online info:

http://ds.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=2740

The fact you can play any mode, character, option or course online is amazing. The only limit being 4-player is simply astounding. After the horrific lan-modes of Double Dash I'm very very glad to see Nintendo takes this seriously.

Online! Excited time.

Nintendo Gaming / FFV-VI GBA
« on: October 05, 2005, 01:39:50 PM »
Is anyone else really disappointed they're making all these for GBA? FFIII looks fantastic in 3D on the DS. I'd LOVE to see FFVI like that. It's disappointing the final remake of the two best FF games are just going to be straight ports.

Nintendo Gaming / Trauma Center

Am I the only one really excited for this? The reviews so far are really solid and I just cannot wait. It'll be my first DS title since Kirby! It looks so much fun.

General Gaming / Sony Receives Award for Pioneering 3D Gaming
« on: September 30, 2005, 08:39:03 PM »
So:

Quote

"Outstanding Achievement in Technology and Advanced New Media for pioneering the 3D polygonal-based gaming experience."

"When the concept for PlayStation was in its infancy in the early 1990s, we had a dream to elevate the quality of computer graphics from a 2D-based environment to a rich, realistic 3D experience. At the same time, we intended to bring in a new form of entertainment through the living room in a manner that would allow people all over the world to enjoy the pleasures of interactive entertainment,"

Yes. Because they SO deserved it for making that game that essentially MADE 3D gaming: Mario 64.

Good lord this feels so dirty. I guess it proves stealing does pay!

General Chat / Holy Batshat Batman! (Begins)
« on: June 17, 2005, 07:24:43 PM »
So, who's seen Batman Begins?

I personally LOVED the movie and highly reccomend everyone to go see it. It beats the pants off of the originals (and I love the first two of those as well). Bale is just amazing as Batman/Wayne, the best fit in history. The supporting cast are all great (Michael Caine's Alfred is very endearing, as well as Gary Oldman's fantastic detective Gordon). The story is really well thought out and the characters deep. The film is both fascinating and exciting. The action can be muddled but it works in a very fast-paced dark sort of way.

Highly reccomended!

Nintendo Gaming / GBA vs. DS
« on: May 23, 2005, 12:53:33 PM »
I own both a GBA and a DS. I own about 4 GBA games (I've borrowed/played through about 4 others) as well as about 4 GB/GBC games. I  only own Mario for the DS, so this post will mainly be regarding the future lineup of the DS.

Is it just me or does the DS already have a better lineup than the GBA (not necessarily in numbers, it's only 6 months old, afterall)? The GBA, despite a few good original games, was so full of ports it was quite crazy. But already with the DS we have a new Mario platformer, a sequel to Mario and Luigi within the first year, a Metroid FPS,  a new Final Fantasy, brand new games and franchises, online titles, etc.

How do you feel the two stack up? I think the DS is by far the best handheld available, as far as games/future releases go.

Nintendo Gaming / DS Press Conference/Title Reactions - DS
« on: May 17, 2005, 12:06:33 PM »
I'm more excited about the DS than I have EVER been about my Gameboy. I'm far more excited than about Revolution. As pathetic as the Rev showing was, the DS showing looks great. I wish they'd actually demonstrated Mario kart and the new Mario, but I guess we can't complain

How do you feel the DS stacks up to the PSP now? With all the games announced, and the lack thereof on PSP, I feel like E3 has changed a lot of my worries into happy delight.
