My point is that they don't get any NEW Resident Evil games.  So far that's only 1 and a half games, but when Resident Evil 4 comes out, I am sure it will sell some more GameCubes.  I really don't know many people that hyped about Gun Survivor or Network Resident Evil though.

Hmmm.... I guess they would need a lot of space to fit their consoles.    Remember how much they had last year though?  (they had about 1/4 as much as Sony...  )

As much as I really hate to say it...  (I think PC games belong on a PC), I think it would be freaking fantastic if Blizzard was bought by Nintendo.

Sony made their place in this industry by snatching up Square.  Nintendo could take back their rightful place by pulling the same trick on them.  Of course Capcom or Sega would be the perfect ones for such a deal.  Most people don't like living without Resident Evil.  How would they feel if they had to go without DMC, BoF, Onimusha, or Dino Crisis?

Yeah, I got spoiler tags put into the last forum I was an active member at.  I would really appreciate having it here too, as I am a spoiler sensitive person.

Just to let you know, I fixed the first problem I reported by going back to the last milestone release of Phoenix rather than using the nightly build.  I think that the problem was caused by one of the ads though, as I experienced it at other sites too, and they had similar ads...  mediamgr.hugo.com or something like that was the address.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo is No#1...
« on: February 11, 2003, 06:58:29 PM »
PSX to N64 is a very different case.  The PSX hardware wasn't really designed with 3D graphics in mind, while the N64 was built from the ground up to do 3D graphics.  Everything about the PSX hardware was inferior in power to the N64.  The reason the PSX won is because of it's optical media, and relatively easy programming.  The N64 is still known as the Mt. Everest of coding, but some say the PS2 has it beat in that department....

Anyways, my point is that the Xbox touts higher specs than the GameCube, but the amount of power that can be actually used is FAR less than those specs would indicate.  The GameCube exceeds it in power in some areas, and makes up for it's shortcomings in other areas through its incredible efficiency.

Most gamers will tell you the Xbox is better because it has higher numbers behind its name.

Most hardware experts will say that it's often too close to tell, and it's hard to pick a clear winner because Nintendo is so secretive about their hardware.

Here's more examples of this kind of logic.

Since I stabbed someone, and blood came out of the wound, I think it's possible that stabbing someone creates blood.

Since I see clouds in the sky every day, but not at night, I assume that light creates clouds.

Since I cannot see colors at night, I assume they don't exist

Seriously, what is the relation with the observation that Rare has historically always developed for the console with the best graphics?  It's crappy logic, any way you want to look at it.

*sigh*.  Give it up.  I have been saying this stuff for well over a year now.  The problem is that people read the specs as being:  Higher numbers = more powerful.  Being that I am a recognized Nintendo fan, as most of us here are, nobody pays attention to us.  Yes we all know that the GameCube stands eye to eye with the Xbox in terms of graphics, but the problem is the same as the "kiddie" argument against GameCube.  There's just no way to fight myths that are so far ingrained in people's skulls.  It's really sad.

Nintendo Gaming / StarFox Adventures - Game Length
« on: February 10, 2003, 07:20:18 PM »
I played it for like 15 hours, and the game said I was done like 40% of it.  A VERY annoying bug destroyed my game at that point.  A friend in another forum told me how to beat it though, so I might finish it at some time in the future.  It is quite a boring game though.  You are given a lot of quests, but little incentive to actually finish them.  It gets tiring really quickly.

Nintendo Gaming / Eternal Darkness Request
« on: February 10, 2003, 03:46:17 PM »
Hmmm.... thanks for the advice.  I will check that out.  I am watching Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon right now though.

A bit of instruction for people who have the neccessary hardware though.  I have my audio running through my Soundblaster Live, using an adaptor to convert RCA plugs to a common stereo microphone jack.  Since Prologic II is done onboard the SB Live, the sound quality is excellent.  If anyone has such an adaptor and it wouldn't be much trouble, I would, once again, greatly appreciate it.

I am thinking about making a small tribute to one of my favorite games of all time.  I was just wondering if one of you would help me out a little.  I own a copy of the game, but the problem lies in the fact that my sister has my copy of the game, and she lives a very far way away from me.  (And my copy of Rogue Leader too.  )  Anyways, I was wondering if one of you kind people would be willing to give me reasonably high quality MP3s of the Magikal Attack spell in all alignments.  I don't know how I would repay you, but I am sure we could work something out.

If it's a lot of bother, either Ulyaoth or Xel'lotath would be fine too.

PS:  I would prefer either a 3 pointed circle, or a 5 pointed circle.

General Chat / Evangelion
« on: February 08, 2003, 01:41:16 PM »
Evangelion really appealed to me.  The end of the series really left a bad taste in my mouth (mind f*ck starring Shinji), and I put off watching End of Eva for a long time.  When I did watch it though, I regretted it a lot.  It was simply perfect.  Perfectly twisted, and perfectly logical.  To me the two go together VERY well.  I have watched a lot of anime, but after watching End of Eva, Envangelion became my favorite.  It was simply too powerful.

I heard once that the creator of Evangelion (I forget his name) had just gone through a difficult time in his life, and had modelled Shinji and the storyline around his suicidal thoughts at the time.  It really lent the anime something special.  I know what insanity is.  I know when it is being faked.  I know what total despair looks like.  I know what I saw in this anime.

Just a follow up to let people know how it went...  Thanks for all your advice and help.

Future Shop will be doing the Zelda pre-order promotion, so I don't need to worry about that anymore.  They will start taking pre-orders on the 16th, and I will be right there when the doors open that morning.    This I can guarantee.

As far as Skies of Arcadia goes, I have given up hope that it will ever show up in my area of the world.  I will simply order it from DVDBoxOffice, or EBGames, whichever is cheaper.

Anyways, thanks again for all your help.  It's much appreciated.

Attrox, I already suggested that as it annoys me just as much as you, but it seems that the forum administrators disagree with us.  They feel it's more important to make sure that we read the main page repeatedly rather than stay on the forums.

Anyways, I have a couple of VERY annoying bugs to report.  I use two browsers, and neither of them like the site at the moment.

Phoenix is my most used one.  Every time I open a new page, it gives me this message.
pic1

IE is a backup.  Some pages are coded strictly for IE, and I use it for FTP access.  It gives me this when I open the main page.
pic2

I would appreciate it if these errors were looked into.  Thank you.

PS:  It took 6 edits to figure out how to make a hyperlink... do you suppose that the standard tags could be implemented?  Or at least make it so that urls are autmatically linked?

Well, it's good to hear that at least SOME Canadians are getting their GameCube fix.  I will do the rounds again tomorrow and see if I can find anything.  I really don't have time to play games right now (midterms), but I would like to have them all the same before it's too late.

General Gaming / Nokia's new handheld a gba killer
« on: February 07, 2003, 06:32:35 PM »
There is something seriously wrong with people if all they look at when deciding what to buy is the specs.  Consoles and Handhelds are NOT PCs.  The one with the highest specs is not the winner.  The one with the best games is the winner.

Nintendo - Lots of good games
Nokia - they have games?

Bottom line - Nintendo is perfectly safe.

nope.  No EB around here.  I do know of one in Calgary, but of course that's out of the question.

I don't watch much (read: any) sports though, so I can't tell you much about the Broncos.  Sorry.

PS:  I emailed Nintendo about my frusterations, and here's a snippet from the response.  I guess I am a lot less worried than before now.

And, yes, the Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker pre-sale promotion is being
offered at retailer's in Canada as well as the United States.  However, in both
countries, it is up to the store to decide if they wish to participate.  Check
with your local retailers to find out if they have elected to take advantage of
this great promotion!

Nintendo Gaming / A Question for Canucks
« on: February 06, 2003, 08:49:04 AM »
My problem is that Toys R' Us, Future Shop, and Walmart are the only stores in town that sell games in mass quantities.  In my experience, Future Shop is the worst, and Toys R' Us is the best as far as that area goes.  I don't visit Walmart much, as it is across town, and I do not have a vehicle, so I am forced to rely on public transportation.  I suppose I should really call them and ask them one of these days...  Maybe I'll go do that right now.  Somehow it just never occurred to me.

As for nearby cities, Calgary is about 2 - 3 hours drive away, but again, not having a vehicle limits my options rather severely.

Blast it!  I DO live in a major Canadian city.  (Lethbridge, Alberta is sort of big).  I really envy you guys who are able to actually buy the games you want though.  Yes, I do have friends in bigger cities, but my problem is that I want the game as quickly as possible...  Most of my friends are even lazier than me, and I am sure that the game would be spending a long time getting its way to me.  *sigh*

I think I am just going to wait for Toys R' Us to get their act together, and then when they figure out whether they will be selling Skies of Arcadia, and giving the Zelda bonus discs, I will either buy it from them and save myself a lot of trouble, or I will buy them from DVD Box Office.  I emailed them about it, and they said that they would be shipping the bonus disc on the same day as Wind Waker (not really what I had in mind)
