Nintendo Gaming / RE: Pacman Vs.
« on: December 18, 2003, 05:35:02 PM »
I bought I-Ninja today.  I am sitting here trying to warm up my hands, and I just opened the box.

There's no Pacman game in it.

Yeah. Heh heh. Those idiots.

Well it's a hard game to find so give me a break. I don't see people giving crap to those that own GBA ports.

The PSX port was a disaster.  The load times, and the HORRIBLE sound really killed the game.  That kind of stuff is tolerable from a free game, but not when you are expected to pay for it.

That being said, I think I FAR prefer the N64 version of Majora's Mask.  The GCN version gives me a headache.

I just got my disc today.  Ordered it as soon as it came out in Canada (well... a couple days late, but only because the games were late).

hmmm... I see.  I was just curious.  It's probably the way the Angelfire server is configured then.  What that did was to specify that the doc type of the document was txt/html, which I thought MIGHT override the file extension.  But Angelfire seems to have said that any file without an extension is of type txt/plain, which SHOULD render as source code in a standards complaint browser.

doesn't sound like Netscape or Mozilla... both of those will display txt/plain when presented with an unknown doctype...

Opera does tend to disobey standards if they think it will gain them a few users...  IE of course was developed by people who never heard of the W3C...

You running Opera over there?  I would check, but I don't feel like booting Windows, and I am happy with my browser here.

it's fun to try to stalk people via the internet, whether you're doing it for real or not.

I once sent someone a sattelite picture of his house by snail mail.  THAT was fun.

man... knowsnothing... you have shown me that I have been programming for too long.  I had read half the page before I even realized it wasn't being displayed properly.  I was reading the source code just like it was the real deal.

Tip for you though.  Rename the extension to .htm, or .html.  It will work much better.

I never read the interview, but from the quotes that you guys posted, I am currently laughing myself to hysterics.  He is definately the perfect spokesperson for the Xbox.

ROFLMFAO.  I never heard about that one, and it's not like I read IGN anymore.  That's completely hilarious.  IGN has got to be the worst gaming publication ever.

Uglydot, I have them installed now.  The problem was that I was missing some libraries it needed, and I needed to go find them.  Once I did, it demanded the kernel source, which I also had to go download.  No biggies, but a pain in the butt.

General Chat / RE: Winamp 5?
« on: December 18, 2003, 01:37:54 PM »
Just because you CAN doesn't mean that you HAVE to.

I don't feel like booting up Windows at home, but I did install it on my PC at work, and I have to say that I was rather impressed.  It felt like Winamp 2, which is a very good thing.  I thought I would be using Winamp 2.91 until the day I died, as Winamp 3 sucked so bad.  Winamp 5 truly isn't that bad, although I just can't see the justification in upgrading if you already have Winamp 2.91.

I haven't bothered finding an MSN client for Linux yet, and I haven't logged onto Windows in like a week.  I have an AIM client preinstalled though, if you would care to talk on that at some point.

Yeah, well, we were Canadians then too.    Face it.  Canadians live in Canada.

Mouse, we only really got our full independence from Britian in like the last 30 years.  I think it's safe to say that we were Canadians 50 years ago, and we still are.

Yeah... well.....  you don't irritate us Canadians.  Otherwise we'll get a couple cases of beer, and take a canoe down to the White House and have ourselves another bon fire at good old 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

God I love Canada.  I mean... burning down the White House has to be the funniest thing in the history of the world.  It's the most Canadian way of fighting a war that there ever was.

Yep.  Kinda like the Chrono Trigger PSX disc.  Tell people that you own Chrono Trigger, but you have it for PSX, and you will probably get laughed at.  (At least I would... for actually buying the thing.  )

So her father doesn't have the right to teach his daughter the difference between right and wrong then either?

Ok.  Absolute last word on the subject.  Promise.  I am going to bed now and sleeping it off.  silverdonut, I think you have your answer.  I dislike the American pledge because it combines religion and state.

I dislike the Canadian flag because it iconifies the Canadian government's complete lack of respect for the west.  During the last election, they announced the winners before my province's vote had even been counted.  The two most western provinces provide most of Canada's budget, but get the least respect.  Probably because our vote doesn't matter squat.

If Canada had a pledge, it would probably emphasize tolerance among all the different groups in Canada.  But it doesn't really need saying, as Canada is a pretty friendly country, and be you Indian, Black, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, or even French... you can walk down a street without fear of being persecuted for your birthright.  I visited Alabama and Mississippi a while back, and I could not say the same about those places.  (I am not white).  If Canada did have a pledge, I would probably feel proud of my country for making it a good place to live.

And Mouse Clicker, Canada's population is incredibly diverse.  We have an entire province full of French people who feel the need to BAN VIDEO GAMES WITHOUT FRENCH COVERS!!!! (sorry... pet gripe of mine...)  But the government always jumps through hoops to please them....  And you can't go 500km in any direction without hitting a reserve of some kind.  There are Indians in every town across the country.  There are more kinds of non-white than Black you know.

Well, it doesn't personally concern me, as I live in Canada, where 50% of our population is either atheist or agnostic.  We don't have those problems.  We can also walk down the street with not-white skin without fear.

But allowing a public school to force your children to say a religious statement in the classroom?  That's just not right.  Sure, I know that they could refuse, but how many 5 year olds do you know who would do that?

mouse, I am actually siding with the dude 100% now.  I thought he took a machette and walked into a church or something like that.  Kids are very impressionable, and it's not right to let others impose their views on them at a young age.  The church is considered by some to be a domain of evil, and to subject your daughter to the brainwashing of the church at 5 years old is just not healthy.

But regardless, her father is one of two people who should decide whether he wants to subject her to religious propaganda or not.  The pledge is intended to stir up loyalty to God and the state both, and her father wanted to exercise his right to give his daughter freedom of choice in the matter.

The thing is that America doesn't really have seperation of church and state, and the dude challenged that.  That is the real reason (opinions notwithstanding), that I side with him.
