Reader Reviews / RE:Request: Sonic Mega Collection
« on: August 02, 2003, 10:21:22 AM »
I think Sonic Mega Collection would be nice for your brother. It's not too hard. I have a few problems with this game however... For one, the unlockable games are not very good (Flicky, Blue Sphere, Knuckles in Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, and Ristar) and it takes a lot of time to unlock them.
And I also think you get bored of this game pretty quickly. I used to have Sonic 2 and Sonic and Knuckles (Hey! What a coincidence!) on Sega Genesis and I thought I'd love SMC. But when I got it, after a week I was like:" Meh...I'm bored..." That's just my input on it though

I don't think you can focus on just ONE review. I've seen games where some people gave it a 9/10 score, while others gave it a 3/10 score. You gotta look around and make an average out of everything you find. I personally don't rely that much on reviews. If it looks like a good game, I rent it

Rouge's Treasure Scopes: You need Mystic Melody to do this. (I'm sure you have it by now). Go in Security Hall. Go in the Yellow section of the "C" Block. Near the corner, there will be a Mystic Shrine. Play Mystic Melody and platforms will appear. Follow them and they'll lead you to the Treasure Scopes.

Knuckles' Sunglasses: Go in Meteor Herd. At the start of the level, if you get down from the platform you're on and you turn around, you'll see that you were on platform "0-4". You need to get on platform "0-1" (Which is on the opposite side from where you started) Now, if you look ahead, you'll see a yellow Bulldozer, and a floating platform with one of those rocks on it. Get on that platform. Now you should be facing a door with a flashing red line on it. You need to open that door by punching a rock into it. There's two ways to do this: 1) You can lighty tap a near-by rock and hope to hit the door, or 2) You can hit the rock that's on the platform. If you do this, you'll have to run a little on the platform to gather strengh so you can punch the rock hard enough to reach the door. Once you hit the door, a metal box containing a switch will be revealed. Hit the switch, and the bottom of the area where you and Rouge fought will open up. Go down there to get the Sunglasses.

Do you have Knuckles' Air Necklace? With it, you'll be able to breathe underwater. Great for "Canon's Core". If you don't have it, I can't post the location.

Ok I've got the locations of Eggman and Sonic's Mystic Melodies.

Eggman: Go in Sand Ocean. From the beginning of the level, go straight until you reach that spinning thing with the flame in the middle. Go on one of the two ledges attached to that spinning thing and wait. Make sure you're at the very end of the ledge. Eventually the camera will shift and you'll see a hidden platform of the left side. There's also a secret place on the right side (There's four metal boxes in the way though) so don't get confused. But I'm sure you can see the green light of the upgrade from the ledge so you'll be allright!

Sonic: Go in Final Rush. Right in front of checkpoint 6, there should be a brownish rail. Now, you see that platform a little further ahead? It's got a rocket on it. You have to get to that platform somehow. I suggest that you crouch, and right in front of the platform, you jump and you should be able to make it. Once you're on there, take the rocket. It will lead you to a platform with a life on it. Look at your right: another platform! Jump on it, and then you just go with the flow. It will lead you to the Mystic Melody.

Well that's it for the Mystic Melody upgrade. Have you gotten Knuckles' Sunglasses and Rouge's Treasure Scopes yet? You need them to complete every of their last missions ("Clear Hard Mode!")
Anyway, I'm open to any other of your questions

You know those things you get after beating a new mission for the fist time? It's like Sonic surrounded by a ring with wings on top and a red ribbon at the bottom? That's an emblem. (And yes there are 180 in total. You can check the ones you have by going in the "Extra" menu and then in "Emblem Results"). In the Chao world, you get an emblem for beating all the Hero races, all Dark races, all the Challenge races, all the Jewel races and I think you get one for winning all the Beginner races as well. In Karate, you get one for beating Beginner, Standard, and Expert in tournament mode. After you finish Expert, an other level of difficulty should be unlocked: Super. Beat this to get an other emblem.

Concerning the egg colors in the Chao world, the more emblems you have, the better the color selection will be. The annoying part of it is that the Black Market changes the egg colors after a certain period of time. So you might see a color you want (ex:Red) but you don't have enough rings to buy it. So you go out and get the rings, but by the time you get back, the colors have changed and the one you wanted is gone. However it will re-appear sometime sooner or later. You just have to check frequently.
The colors you named me are pretty much the basic ones, but eventually, you'll get these wicked shiny colors (Ex:Shiny Blue, Shiny Green...) I wish I could show you my killer Chao

For Mystic Melody...
Every charater has that upgrade. Right now, I can only remember the locations of Rouge's, Shadow's, Knuckles', and Tails'.

Rouge: Go in Dry Lagoon. From the start of the level, turn right and go on the ledge with a Chao box on it. (It's the ledge right behind the turtle) There should be a weird painting in the middle of the wall. It has a sort of bird, and an oval on it. Dig in the center of the oval. you'll end up in a room with a Mystic Shrine and the Mystic Melody. Get the Mystic Melody and stand next to the Mystic Shrine. In the upper-right corner, you'll notice that the action will say "Mystic Melody". Press the action button, and see what happens!

Shadow: Go in Final Chase. After checkpoint 3, you'll be at that area where you're constantly going up gravity poles (or whatever you want to call them) and being attacked by those big blue enemies. Go up on top of the 5th pole. You should then face another *hidden* gravity pole with an electric barrier that makes a full circle around it. Be careful, and jump over there. Go on top of the pole and you'll see the Mystic Melody right there waiting for you.

Knuckles: Go in Wild Canyon. From the start of the level, go in the wind thing to get you to the upper part of the stage. Go on the left side, where there are 3 "packs" of four wodden boxes (Not the side with statue's head) and go straight to the end where the lone statue is. On top of its head, there's an other one of those paintings. Dig in the center and Voilà! Mystic Melody!

Tails: Go in Hidden Base. The Mystic Melody is between checkpoint 1 and 2 (In fact it's right before checkpoint 2). Somewhere in that range, you'll be lifted by one of those red things attached to some sort of black cable (I'm sorry. I don't know how to explain it) and you'll be surrounded by those monkeys that throw bombs at you. It seems as if you can only proceed by taking a right, but in fact you can also go left. There's gonna be a type of cube with an odd picture on it (Kinda looks like a cat with wings). Shoot it three times and it should open a secret passage. From where you are, go down and go straight where there's four metal boxes. Shoot through them and the Mystic Melody will be there.

Phew....that was long. Sorry for any spelling mistakes. I know my directions are a little hard to understand, but I did my best
I'll go check where the Mystic Melody of Sonic and Eggman are and I'll post the locations later if you want, ok?

General Chat / RE:This is why school shootings happen
« on: July 30, 2003, 12:48:05 PM »
Stop it guys. We've gone from school shootings, to school systems, to people's personal lives in this thread, all because of the story of one boy who made an jackass of himself and wasn't able to deal with it. We can argue forever on this topic, but the reality remains that he was offended and broke down, whether we like or not (personaly, I'd embrace the fact that I'm famous), and we can't do anything to help. We're just wasting our words here, so let's just shut the f**K up and move on with our lives.

Your questions are not really clear, but I'll try to help you from what I understood.

The emblems in the Chao world are earned by winning Races and Karate matches (These things can be accessed from the little cave thing in the Chao garden). I don't think there's any codes out there to get all the emblems instantly, but here's what helped me get the emblems faster:

First off, don't feed your Chao animals unless you want to change its appearance. Just use Chao drives.

Ok here's what you need to do. Bring a Chao drive to your Chao, and drop it before it swallows it. There needs to be a certain distance between you and your Chao but if it works, his stats will increase and the Chao drive will still be around, so you can use it over and over again ('til he swallows it). I suggest that you pet him first and he'll stand still for a few seconds, giving you the time to pull off the trick. It takes practice but after you get the hang of it, you can bring your Chao's stats to the limit (which is level 99). And then winning Chao races and Karate matches will be a piece of cake.

"Find the lost Chao!" missions are a pain in the ass. First of all you need a special upgrade called "Mystic Melody" (Consult a FAQ for the locations for each charater) This will allow you to play some melody when you're close to what they call a "mystic shrine". You might of seen one. It's like a little brown thing (about the size of Sonic, maybe a little bigger) with a sort of blue glass on top. It's hard to explain. Anyway, when you play the melody, it will either open a door, make a spring appear, show you a path of rings, make platforms appear, or make some blue teleport thing appear (Depending on the level). This will lead you to the lost Chao. To get an "A" rank, you must find the Chao in a certain amount of time. It can be hard sometimes, but never give up.

Well I just realized how freakin' hard it is to explain this game. But I hope I helped you a little. If you have any more questions, just ask me. I'm the Goddess of this game I've mastered it.

Nintendo Gaming / NINTENDO GAMES = BAD REPLAY VALUE
« on: July 17, 2003, 08:32:59 AM »
I agree with Gamefreak. The only reason I would replay a game is to fully master it if I haven't done so the first time. I can't see the point of wasting time on a game you know everything about. I'd rather amuse myself with a new game...  But that's just my opinion

(By the way, this post doesn't apply to multi-player games)

What?! Running from ONE random battle drops you by ONE WHOLE rank?! Is that what you're saying? I wouldn't know; I've never ran away from one single battle.

  About the sequel....
I hope they don't come out with a new batch of characters like Lunar did when they released Lunar 2. I hated that. It's like a totally different game when they change the characters.
