Nintendo Gaming / Dengeki Charts
« on: March 31, 2003, 09:04:27 AM »
I don't think SC2 on the Cube can outsell the PS2 version (in Japan, or any market) for that matter. There are just too many darn PS2's! Maybe it will steal the thunder for the first week.

Nintendo Gaming / What ever happened to the SD Memory card?

As programmers say, give them lots of space and they'll find a way to fill it up.

I'm finding this generation of memory cards saves about the same number of games as last generation.

TalkBack / Acclaim Considers Bringing AFL Live Stateside
« on: March 24, 2003, 08:50:18 AM »
More Americans have heard of Rugby. I've seen Rubgy on TV stateside a few times. AFL once. I'd give it a try, I just fear most others would not.

What they should do is package it as an eXtreme sport. I'm still waiting for my curling game.

Although interesting, I can't see enough Americans wanting to play this to make business sense. AFL is fun to watch but I guarentee the average American has never seen (or heard of) the sport. Sorry!

Gotta love the "Movie was popular and we didn't expect it so let's make a game and get it to market years later" thing they have going on. Classy. Much better than the "Rush a game to market just to get sales before people see through the hype."

TalkBack / GameSpy is a GameCube Developer
« on: March 13, 2003, 10:01:25 AM »
Is it just me or should this have been built into the dev kits from the beginning? The knew they wanted online abilities way back when. They annouced the two internet adapters. Maybe next time Nintendo will be onlne. This time around looks pathetic. Gamecube is an easy third place for online this generation.

Is there even a second online game yet? I saw a Broadband adapter the other day and had exactly one reason to buy it. Wasn't ASB 2004 supposed to be online? My (pathetic) reasearch ascertained that only the Xbox and PS2 versions had an online component (couldn't easily tell if it was online play, I think just roster updates). What's going on?

GameSpy is good stuff. I've used it for years. Now we only need hope that Mario Kart is a LAN title at minimum...

TalkBack / Wind Waker Most Pre-Ordered Game in History
« on: March 12, 2003, 10:31:22 AM »
I still think Zelda has sales left after the pre-order madness. Although it will effect the initial sales (it would have sold well the initial weekend anyway -- maybe now we will have more of the initial shipment sold as pre-orders instead of walk-ins) I still think sales will be strong throughout the year. Kinda like SSBM. I'll go out on a limb and say it will sell more than one million copies this year.

Ah, the bonus disc worked on me.

Should I give up hope that the WW disc will be gold in some sort?

NWR Feedback / Happy 4th Birthday Planet GameCube!
« on: March 08, 2003, 08:33:19 AM »
Hey, where is the Louie pic of the little fur-ball holding up 4 claws (I'll also accept 4 paws)? This is an outrage!!

Great work!! I remember being skeptical the first time I ever visited (years ago!). "This just looks like yet another fansite," I thought. Boy was I wrong. I look forward to continued great coverage. Usually, fan sites lose steam over time; not you guys. Very impressive. I can't say that I would have the same level of dedication.

Thanks!!!!!!!!111

Nintendo Gaming / Super Mario RPG 3, Any Chances??
« on: March 07, 2003, 08:58:30 AM »
It was a Nintendo Saturday morning cartoon show. It was way rad for the time. Somehow Tetris made it in as a world. Looking on the net, it was called "Captain N: The Game Master".

Anyway the idea of a Nintendo Kingdom Hearts is pretty cool though I would prefer it if the game was presented as if all of the Nintendo franchises existed in the same world (or galaxy when you take Metroid and Star Fox into it) and no references are made to Nintendo themselves and no indication is made that everyone is a videogame character.   There just happens to be places in this world called Hyrule and the Mushroom Kingdom with different races of people living in each and Mario and Link are both people who live in this world who have never met.  When you start having stuff like F-Zero World the whole thing seems a lot lamer instead of having Mute City.  And no cheesy "kid gets trapped in the Nintendo world" storyline junk either.

TalkBack / Java Coming to Game Boy Advance
« on: March 06, 2003, 10:35:39 AM »
Since Java isn't built into the Game Boy, any programs you write would not be widely available. Unless I was really into MIDP programming, I'd skip this one.

A book entitled "Programming the Nintendo Game Boy Advance" is coming out soon. I'd invest my time in learning the real system. At least your games could be played on emulators.

It doesn't appear to be the sales success Nintendo hoped for in Japan. But that's another comment for another thread...

Funny how ATI has turned things around since they purchased ArtX and got into the video game graphic board market. It's also funny to see how NVidia is quickly becoming the new 3Dfx (heck, they even bought them).

We all should take the time to enjoy business for what it really is.  Funny.

It is highly improbable they will tie. Maybe close.

Zelda came on N64 further into its life cycle. I think WW is doing very well.

TalkBack / Analysts Recommend Nintendo Turn Third-Party
« on: February 25, 2003, 09:55:05 AM »
How long have people forecasted doom for Nintendo? Since the SNES days. Nintendo made it through that. The N64 days? No way would they make it with a cartridge format. They outlasted the Dreamcast. Gamecube? XBox is going to claim second and send the GC packing. We'll see but unlikely. History would have to say that Nintendo's going to make it. Being profitable isn't a new secret business concept.

I could also add that the Lynx/Game Gear spelled doom for the Black and White Game Boy (I loved that thing!).

Is there anyone that believes this forcast?

Billy: I am well aware of that fact. There are still people in the forums who think some sort of emulation-magic is going on.

Or I am crazy. You choose.

Since we only get black in the U.S., I'd consider importing the Purple Player.

This should end speculation that the games are being emulated in an way. They are playing on real hardware folks!

Nintendo Gaming / Gameboy Advance SP extra batteries???
« on: February 17, 2003, 06:53:15 AM »
My Palm has a Lithium Ion battery and I don't have any memory problems when I charge it. I rarely use more than 80% of battery before I get back to the cradle. I would suspect the GBA SP battery will be the same way. Just charge it every few days and you will be fine.

But you are right, it would be nice to be able to swap out batteries when they go dead. Gotta love those AA's.
