General Gaming / RE: share thoughts on these N64 games
« on: September 13, 2004, 06:53:31 PM »
I am a freak, I own two coppies of every ogre battle game to come out in the state, and I have one game that I think is japanese exclusive but I won't open it until I find a nother copy.    Ogre battle 64 is my favorite 64 game just because it is.  Its an amazing game and the 64's best rpg.  I also love jet force gemini which I just got last week for five bucks at a yard sale.

General Gaming / RE: Doom 3
« on: September 13, 2004, 06:46:30 PM »
If doom 3 wasn't so damn pretty it wouldn't get as much love as its getting.  I have doom 3 and I love it.  But honestly there are only so many different metallic walls in hell that one can run into, I'm sure that hell and mars have some more intereseting enviroments.  and once you get down to it, the entire game is walk and shoot, walk and shoot, walk and shoot, pee your pants, walk and shoot.  The physics engine is amazing, and that's where most of the fun in the game lies.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: New North American (NPD) Sales Thread
« on: September 13, 2004, 06:38:37 PM »
Sales are always depressing.  Great games will always be great games, but if they're not trendy or cool at the time then there's not marketing force in the world that can sell it.  Prime example is Beyond good and evil.  I'm willing to say that BGE was the best multiplatform game to come out last year, and in most cases better than Kotor, VJ, TLOZ, and did sony have a blockbuster game last year.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: They should make a Zelda RPG.
« on: September 13, 2004, 06:34:49 PM »
I couldn't live with it.  Its zelda, not mortal Kombat.  As hypocritical as it sounds I would have no problem with ganandorf in a mortal kombat game ripping off heads and eating spleans.  but not in zelda, I mean zelda at its heart is the story about a boy going out to save the people he loves.  Link was never trained to be a hero, he was always given the role in an attempt to help people, usually his family.  Everyone from his uncle, to his friends, to his sister, and even his horse.  No matter how depressing the story lines get or how mature link becomes, there still has to be this little hint of childishness to the franchise, and throwing in spewing blood would just ruin that.

If the stage took up both screens then characters might fall through stages in some areas, and in other areas it would be seemless.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: halo ds?
« on: September 13, 2004, 01:15:25 PM »
Look at things objectively.  I hate sony with a passion, ever since my mp3 player stopped working majically and my Stereo started going on the fritz I've stopped buying sony products.  I'm not going to say that all things made by sony suck, there might be a chance that they make something good again.  In the begining I didn't like Xbox, I thought halo was this massively overrated game and every xbox game sucked.  Until I played halo using the I am bigger than your car controller.  Its a good game, a little repetitive but a good game.  Better than any FPS gamecube or PS2 has.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Games will no longer have to be ported.
« on: September 13, 2004, 01:09:22 PM »
I know that this technology is meant to help developers and keep cost down, but there is a huge chance that people with time and money can get their hands on this and use it to run illegal operations.  Besides, If this technology existed previously it still would be hard to easily port ps2 games to cube because of the difference in machinary.

While it looks interesting, you know good and well M$ doesn't want halo on revolution, Big N doesn't want Zelda on PS3, and Sony doesn't want ICO (most overrated game EVER) on Xbox 2.  We also don't know what type of media all the consoles will be using.  we know about blue-ray and sony, but nintendo's and Microsofts are up in the air.  They very well could change.  This is one issue that all three big boys will work together to stop from working legally.

I'm a cost efficient gamer, I need to know when games are coming out a long time before they come out.  Especially during the christmas shopping season.  I want certain games, my girlfriend wants certain games, my five younger siblings want certain games.  I want to know when the DS is coming out and what games are going to be available at launch.

If there was blood in zelda the game would jump to M and parents won't let little kids play.  No little kids and zelda drops in sells majorly.  Besides there are better things you can do with processing power orther than making blood spewing out of octoroks.  If you cut a goblin it should go poof into a pile of smoke.  If link gets stabbed a little heart should drop off the top of my screen, the way it has always been.

The gameplay is real repetitive and the story is pretty much not there. A game needs more than good gameplay, although its the most important part.  serious sam's  running and shooting gets boring after a while though.

no patches,I don't care if its the biggest online game ever.  other developers will want to use patches and use patches as a reason to release smaller more sucky games.

not all sixteen, maybe just yours and the three guys closest to you.  sixteen stats even by themselves is too much to take into account and actually play the game.  Especially if all the characters from the same game use the same icon, if your fighting two links a young link zelda and ganandorf it might be very confusing.

Madcatz and nyco actually make good memory cards.  nintendo's are best, but if you need space for less money take a chance with them.

Harvest moon is gone, but more importantly is the loss of monkey ball.  ps2 and xbox now have monkeyball DX, which is an amalgamation of 1,2 and a truckload of new content the nintendo games don't have.  here's hoping smb3 comes out late enough to not make it to those consoles.

If microsoft bought Nintendo it wouldn'y be a buyout like what happened with rare.  Microsoft would get out of making games, they'd still publish games from their children.  Nintendo would essiantially be a second party to whatever system microsoft has.  And nintendo would have to have a huge say in the system.  Most likely microsoft would be a figurehead and nintendo would control everything in the microsoft videogame lair.  Microsoft would love it because they would learn how to become profitable;seeing as nintendo is the only profitable hardware manufacturer in videogame history.

Nintendo should ley panasonic design the revolution.  I beleive my Q is the prettiest console on the market.  The revolution should also "revolutionize" the console market and be region free right out of the box.

console and pc fps games are different beast.  Halo is good because the controls scheme was so easy to use for the xbox, as was goldeneye for the n64.  on the PC halo is a bunch of crap because it came out old and the PC is a haven for FPS games.  I got the last serious sam game for five bucks from my neighbor and it sucks, but its fun and that's really all that matters for five bucks.

no online patches, thats something that no one wants for a system.  Developers are lazy enough as is.  If developers could rely on just releasing patches for their crap games then they wouldn't put the time and effort into making a game as good as it needs to be.  making a PC game is different because there is no set hardware, everyone's pc is different.  everyone gamecube, even mine, is the same, everyone's gba is the same, and everyone's ds will be the same, there's no need to release patches for games, that's just a cheap way out.

You can superimpose them like everyother game does. I like my eyes working the way they are, and trying to squint superhard to watch 16 people go balistic on on screen.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: They should make a Zelda RPG.
« on: September 13, 2004, 06:01:11 AM »
A zelda RPG wouldn't be the best selling zelda game ever.  Action adventure games are a lot easier for kids to get into.  The mario RPGs sell well because they're so far out of the ballpark and have a control scheme that isn't hard to grasp. It only works because mario and luigi are silly little fellows that can easily make fun of themselves.  Zelda is to serious for that.  If you start putting in stats and have blood in the game.  There goes half of the sales.  As far as building stats based on action, the best system for that is in the megaman zero games, not an rpg.  The zelda building is full of adventuring, and can be played completly without spells.  Sword fighting was a huge part of the last games, and the puzzles weren't that bad either, a little easy,  but not bad.  As far as character building, if you use a bit of your imagination and don't need to have the game tell everything thats going on you'll see that link grows up a lot.  Starts off sleeping, loses sister, goes to save her, ends up saving the world.  I say he has developed a lot.
