TalkBack / Re: New Smash Bros. Character Being Announced Monday
« on: July 13, 2014, 01:20:06 PM »
Who are these "far better" choices? I think just about every newcomer so far has been interesting, and while I don't think I'd have ever come up with someone like Wii Fit Trainer I think she's a fantastically ridiculous addition.
Better choices:

-Waluigi
-Cranky Kong or K.Rool
-Issac (Golden Sun)
-Midna, she is popular enough (cancel out Toon Link, hate how there is two characters with the same moveset)
-Any Warioware character, there is enough variety.
-Hoenn Starter Pokemon
(Which reminds me, I forgot about Greninja. He was also a good addition along with Palutena. One of the decisions with the character roster)
-Terra (FFVI. We got Capcom to allow Megaman, anything is possible)

Waluigi? While I don't like to hate on anyone's preferences for characters, compared to the newcomers we have now Waluigi is just ugh. What does he bring to the table? Mario sports/spin off material? He was never a leading man and that's why he only appears in spin offs. Wii Fit Trainer, Mega Man, Little Mac and everyone else revealed so far deserves to be in Smash so much more than that guy. Those characters have made much more of an impact than he ever will.

Valid point up until Wii Fit Trainer. I still don't understand the thought process behind that and never will.

(not saying much because all of the new characters are horrible so far.)

That has to be a joke comment. Almost all of the new characters have gotten lots of praise, and a few are already getting good amounts of people planning to main them. Mega Man is hugely popular among Smash fans, Villager is a surprise hit among Smash fans and many at E3 said they had a lot of fun playing as him. Little Mas is by far an early favorite and many people think he could be a "Tier 1" character since his attacks are so powerful (his only downside being his aerial sucks)
I'll concede that Megaman and Villager will be popular, but that doesn't mean I like it. Palutena is the only good addition so far. The rest are terrible (Mii Fighters? Wii Fit Trainer?) and, to me, gives us a dull roster when there are far better choices out there.

Shulk hopefully. God I hope its Shulk. That would be my favorite new character reveal (not saying much because all of the new characters are horrible so far.)

Type Zero got localized so I'm sure this will. Even if it takes about 2 years.

Nice to see more class variety. I was originally under the assumption that we were limited to Warrior, W Mage, B Mage, Monk, and Thief. I really do hope this is localized.

Finding the bonus items add some replay value and was kinda fun. If it is set up like DW5, then each character should have their own story progression. That is kinda how I hope they do it since it was fun to see everything from a different perspective. And there was variety in objectives. I'm basing this mostly off of DW5 because I played the **** out of it and absolutely loved the damn game. DW4 was mediocre at best and character creation was awful.

I lack a background in the Warriors/musou games - is there a mode where you can beat up player characters?

Asking for a friend.
I think Dynasty Warriors 4 had it. I don't think dynasty Warriors 5 had it. I haven't played either in years, but I remember you were on a bridge and a couple of minor enemies came and were followed up by a player character. It was hard as hell.

How long do they usually wait to announce the rewards for the Platinum members. I find it interesting that they don't just announce them immediately on July 1st.
Their year end faq says around mid-July.

That he said multiple titles has me interested. But, at this point, all I want is a 3D Zelda on the 3DS. I like 2D, don't get me wrong, but almost every single 2D Zelda is on the 3DS. We don't need another.

Shovel Knight earned its spot. It may have been delayed forever, but yet it is a wonderful value for $15. Made it worth the wait because they did take their time with it.

Bravely Default shouldn't be in the runner ups. It was awful.

Space Dandy is complete silliness for the whole 30 minutes. There has only been one episode where it was serious for the majority of the episode.

Season 2 has started really well, I liked the first episode a lot. Season 1 was really dull at a lot of parts and only 3 episodes were really good.

I'll be surprised if this works on the 3DS. I expect it to work on the Vita, but the Vita has a lackluster game library, so I don't see anything amazing going on there.

Shin Megami Tensei IV is always on sale and I still don't have it yet. One of these days....

I think Minecraft is boring and lazy (essentially making the player create thei own fun), but it would be nice to have it on Wii U and 3DS.

pokepal, why do you think a 3DS version couldn't work? There are iOS and Android versions and they work fine.

There was a time when creating your own fun was the norm.  It's called "using your imagination".
Minecraft all alone is boring as hell. Imagination or not, it is dull as hell to play by yourself. Minecraft is only fun with more players.

With the touchscreen, Mincecraft would be perfect. Selecting items would be a lot less tedious and typing would be easier. Wii U could possibly be the best port of it.

PC version is still the best version however. Mods and MP will always be larger.

847
That is Team Ninja at work for you. In DoA, Kasumi and Ayane have 50+ costumes. The other females have around 10. The Hayabusa has around 10. The other males are lucky if they break 5.

Speaking of Hayabusa, it would be great to have him as a cameo character in this.

848
Agitha? Really? Whose next? Romani? Wait a minute, I actually prefer Romani to Agitha.

Good thing they are adding more original characters. I would have hated a character roster made up entirely of already made up characters from previous games. Would just be lazy.

TalkBack / Re: Is Open World Enough for Zelda?
« on: June 23, 2014, 11:10:04 AM »
The only Zelda games I have ever felt a deep emotional attachment with the characters is Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask. Every other Zelda game, even the golden lamb ALttP, didn't make me care much for the lives of the people in the game. Majora's Mask had you deeply involved with everyone's life and it was like getting to know a community and become a part of it. You had unique sidequests for each and every person. None of it was repetitive. You help Romani with the farm by killing aliens and taking milk into town. You helped Kafei by relaying messages between the two lovers and helping get the Sun's Mask back. Even the other regions you could become attached to, especially Snowhead and Ilkana. Zelda needs that similar sense of community and detail nurtured.

Skyrim, while it did have detail, was bare bones gameplay that was sickeningly repetitive and got old fast. It was an insult TES series because the story was trash and everything was a damn stereotype. Evil banana elf people, evil dragons, evil necromancers, etc. Not a shred of originality that the series had at it's peak (Morrowind). Zelda should avoid the Skyrim mold at all costs.

Single player will probably be repetitive and poorly done. I could be wrong and looking at it the wrong way, but that is just my opinion.

1v1 MP never clicked with me in any sort of shooter.

The online MP will probably be where the major appeal of this title is.
