Spak, it wouldn't make any sense or be realistic to expect all Amiibos to work with all games that support Amiibo. If they did that, it's safe to say that the number of games that support the figurines would drastically drop. Plus, exactly what would you expect them to do with Wii Fit Trainer or Villager in Hyrule Warriors?

Nintendo doesn't own Sonic or Mega Man, but they got them in the game. Sony doesn't get a pass because it's their first attempt. They got to learn from Nintendo's previous efforts too.

Nintendo didn't get the clout to put 3rd party characters in their game till Brawl, their third attempt at Smash. I agree that PlayStation All-Stars should have been so much more than it was, but I enjoyed what was there and have been looking forward to maybe one day seeing Sony's equivalent of Melee: where they actually fully-flesh out the concept and implement the polish everyone expected the first time.  Unfortunately, PS All Stars didn't sell well (it didn't help that a lot of people seemingly never gave it a chance as its own experience and not just a Smash clone) and the developer's gone, so I doubt that'll ever happen.

Nintendo had the clout before Brawl. It's well known that Hideo Kojima wanted Snake in Melee (practically begged Sakurai), but the game was too far in development. So it seems that Nintendo didn't WANT to put third party characters in til Brawl.

Also, the developers of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royal is not gone, not sure what made you think they are.

Smash wasn't released outside of Japan in the time frame though, it came out in October. So I think the 3DS will get a big sales boost for October.

304
So the Smash number is basically BS, as it uses shipped numbers rather than sold numbers (because there were 0 copies sold outside of Japan in that time frame). That is the shady thing Sony used to do (where they would count systems still sitting in warehouses in their "Sales" numbers).

TalkBack / Re: Six Ways to Get Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby Demo
« on: October 21, 2014, 05:37:15 PM »
Ian, if they put out a demo you might get one brief mention. But the way they have done it, has resulted in multiple stories on each site (including the initial announcement weeks ago). Yes it's Pokemon and will sell well. However, the remakes always get lower sales than the new releases, and this is a remake of the lowest selling mainline Pokemon games (and the ones usually ranked as the worst of the mainline Pokemon games), so they are trying to get as much coverage as possible.

That being said, I don't like this since the only guaranteed way to get it is purchasing another Pokemon game (knowing Nintendo, the number of theatres getting this will be less than 20 for the whole country.

There's no reason to delete a puzzle.

And the new puzzle isn't available yet (at least to me it isn't).

Wow. What other games have had discounts for going digital, in general?

Nintendo did that with New Super Luigi U, charging $20 for it on the eShop and $30 at retail (though I think the eShop version required you to own New Super Mario Bros. U).

I don't remember much of the game other than enjoying it when renting it from a local grocery store chain (back when they used to have a whole section for renting games and movies).

Surprised at #5's pick. Though it's the only one i've played from this episode.

$100? Hell no. Even if I was interested in the game, no way would I pay $100 unless it came with like 10 of the figures.

I want Smash Bros. tonight, but won't download it because I can use my employee discount to buy it at work tomorrow.

I played Dragon Warrior first, and it was fantastic.

But Final Fantasy was way more epic.

I think his point was that you called FF1 genre creating, but you can't create a genre that already exists (which is did, as Dragon Warrior was already out before it).

Brawl worked fine online for the first month or two (I played hundreds of games and only had problems twice), it was only after that that online became terrible for some reason.

314
I didn't make Platinum this year, though I doubt I would have been one of the people selected anyways.

315
I am buying the game on launch day anyways, but I will download the demo so I can finally play it for the first time. I'm assuming it will have a play limit though like most eShop demos -_-

Hopefully they make up for the 6 month delay by also including all of the DLC for the game free.

I'm glad Nintendo is doing this. I HATE when a game has retailer exclusive DLC and there is no other way to get the DLC (especially if different retailers have different exclusives).

Is this just Japan or everywhere?

Look at the pic in the article, it has the ESRB logo in it and is all English. So this offer is for North America (haven't seen it mention for Europe or Japan).

TalkBack / Re: Is the New 3DS More Game Boy Color or Game Boy Micro?
« on: August 29, 2014, 04:13:48 PM »
Game Boy Color was a different system, not just an upgrade.

Did Nintendo really expect the Game Boy Micro to do well? When they announced it, I remember thinking what a stupid idea it was and that there was no reason to pick it over a Game Boy Advance SP (I still feel that way), so i was not shocked when it bombed.

I love the Brawl soundtrack and plan to get both the 3DS and Wii U versions, so i'm pretty happy about this.

TalkBack / Re: New Nintendo 3DS Models Announced
« on: August 29, 2014, 12:16:56 PM »
This isn't terribly surprising. Gameboy Color did the same, technically so did DSi though they were few and far between beyond DSiWare.

Game Boy Color was a new system, not a re-design. DSi is a good example though.

I don't really want to buy a new model, though at least this re-design improves the system (unlike the 3DS XL, which did nothing more than make it bigger).

Marvel moviefan, do you also not buy cell phones? Companies like Apple and Samsung update their phones every single year.

Ian, Wii U isn't a flop. It started off poorly, but sales have been improving for months.

God I still hate that stupid new design they gave Knuckles. Knuckles is supposed to be Sonic's size, now Knuckles looks like he's been taking tons of steroids.

I don't know, I feel like GameFreak have the leverage here, because if Nintendo don't cooperate then they can find a way to cancel the contracts and go release Pokémon on Sony systems or something.

The Pokemon IP isn't going anywhere. Nintendo owns the IP. And even though the copyright is split among 3 companies (Nintendo, Game Freak, and The Pokemon Company), Nintendo fully owns The Pokemon Company (it's a 100% owned subsidiary, so they control it) and thus owns 2/3 of the copyright. Game Freak doesn't really have any leverage here since Nintendo would never allow the IP to go anywhere they didn't want it to.

Now here's hoping they start producing more Gamecube controllers as well

They are, it's part of the $100 bundle that also included a copy of SSBU and the GCN adapter.

The black one looks better anyways, so doesn't bother me.
