Movies & TV / Re: Disney buying Lucasfilm, Star Wars 7 in 2015

I don't disagree - and I still think to this day that the use of puppetry and props combined with appropriate use of CGI made the effects of Terminator 2 something that hasn't really been topped to this day.

This best serves my point. T2 couldn't really have been done 20 years earlier. Apparently, John Carter took 100 years to reach the screen because of the perceived expense in the Barsoom novels and the universe it creates.

DS9 went off air 13 years ago. I'm watching it through again for the fourth time and still think the latter 16:9 years look fantastic. And a lot of it is a blend of models and CGI. If it was made in 2012 all i would change is cameras for better quality. Little else. Some films i'm perfectly OK with in their "aged" state, Star Wars is not one of them. Each time i've tried to watch i tend to get distracted by something on screen that jars me out of it. Something about a big budget script that didn't - simply owing to the time - didn't have the resources to follow through to the screen.

I realise what i'm asking for isn't exactly reasonable or even possible (we aint getting a young Harrison Ford again!). But that's all i would want.

ONLY can you say that about the first one even die hard fans think it looks dated, but NOT Empire or Jedi, there might be tiny little things but they are  not where near as bad as you are making them out to be. And it has nothing to do with inventing the technology it has everything to do with being able to pull it off despite the limits. Seriously do you think Alien looks dated or Aliens? Sure they don't look as shiny as modern movies but they in no way look jarring or Wizard of Oz bad.

The same year Disney makes John Carter, they buy the studio that makes Star Wars.

Total faith.

Before anybody brings up Marvel, the work to unify their properties into a universe was started long before Disney bought them

I have never watched any of the Star Wars - it's still a franchise that reached the peak of popularity about 40 years before technology allowed it to actually flourish on screen. Exactly how F-Zero X looks incredibly dated when you think about how it could look on Wii U.

If you have never seen Star Wars, then you can't make those kind of assumptions, they basically invented all the technology everyone else is using today to make sure those films looked damn good. What's ironic is Lucas was the guy who invented Pixar.

I wasn't talking about the quality of the game, I was talking about all the hype how it was going to bring all the FPS franchises to the Wii, that never happened. I am pretty sure I had already sold my Wii by the time or before Red Steel 2 came out because I never heard of Motion +. And Ubisoft or not, this thread is talking about franchises Nintendo should fight for or pick up as exclusives, Red Steel fits that perfectly they DID partner with Ubisoft to get it as an exclusive.

I don't care who is paying the bills as long as they get to making some new, live action films in the franchise.

I want Nintendo to stay as far away from First Person shooters as possible, or have you all forgotten Red Steel? They went out of their way touting the Wii as the next best thing in the world of FPS games and look where that went, no where.

I do not like FPS, that is why I stick to Nintendo, if someone wants those types of games buy a stupid Xbox or get them on their PC. I think having a few for variety is alright but don't start catering to the "hard core" crowd an alienate the dedicated fans.

I wouldn't mind a Mario Paintball though, that would sound like fun, or even a Mario Lazer Tag. There you go, Mario Paintball and Metroid Lazer Tag. I would like to see more epic adventure games on the scale of Gods of War and similar types of games like that, and a return to the glory days of JRPG's like SNES.

I am dreaming at this point, unless I make a ton of money at my moving sale. But if I had the money I would just be getting the main console, with at least one controller, and that New Super Mario Bros game and that should hold me over for the next five years.

Wait a person who actually works at a Kmart and isn't over fifty? That's is unheard of. I used to work for K-Mart a long time ago, back when they were going through the bankruptcy. I also worked at Sears shortly after. Needless to say due to my experience with both stores, I am not allowed to shop at Sears, or work at either store any more. I still shop K-Mart every once in a while because I don't like big crowds, kind of why I hate Walmart so much.

Yeah that show that your nephew likes sounds like Phineas and Ferb. I suggest maybe see what he likes from now a days and see if there is a show that is similar that you liked to it back then that he may like. That way it is more smoother.

Unfortunately it's not a problem now, his parents got a divorce and moved back to idaho so I don't get to see the little guy anymore. It was just odd to me how he liked Gobots but not Transformers then I sat through an episode of Transformers Animated and it made sense, that franchise has really gone down hill.

Movies & TV / Re: Rate the last TV show you've seen
« on: October 29, 2012, 08:20:38 PM »
Alright current television I am down to two shows, Big Bang Theory, and How I Met Your Mother. Big Bang Theory I can keep watching until the end of time, How I Met Your Mother, should have ended three seasons ago. I told myself when last season ended, that was it for me. I was getting into Doctor Who but that show runs on funky British time so the seasons is already over.

How do I rate it, let's see Big Bang is a good 9 out of ten right now, it keeps me laughing. It has had some bumps in the road but Sheldon continues to crack me up. How I met Your Mother, last season was a crappy 3 out of 10 and I can't keep going. Doctor Who has always been hit and miss, but it had a great ending despite a really sluggish start. I would say about 7 out of 10 as usual. Some seasons are better than others but for the most part the show remains fairly consistent.

As for what I really watch, my daily schedule is Everybody Loves Raymond, That 70's Show, Boy Meets World, and Roseanne DVD's. If not for those my TV would be collecting dust. Well until NBA seasons starts up again then it comes back to life.

Cards on the table, to be fair I don't keep up with current cartoons, haven't since about the time Fairly Odd Parents came out.  By that time I was already feeling like I was getting too old for cartoons. My nephew likes some show about two kid geniuses whose sister is always trying to catch them in the act, he loves it to death but it annoys me to no end. I keep trying to get him into the stuff from my generation, and oddly enough the only old show he likes is Challenge of the Gobots, he like's Transformers okay but prefers Beast Wars and newer stuff.

For me it is about options for one, Mac's are just not that customizable and they cost way too much for what you get. But really it was when I started going to school that I developed a hatred for them. I started out in Broadcasting and everything we did was on a Mac. They drive me crazy I can't stand them. I don't really care for the iPod line or iPad line much either to be honest. What I love about my iPod classic is it's basically the same as the first one I bought in 2004 only progressively better, I don't like change for the sake of it and sometimes simplifying things only complicates them.

I have nothing against AT&T when I lived in Nevada, but when I moved to Nebraska where they don't have service all of a sudden they started treating me like a criminal.

Wait you really can't even recover the ones they have record of? I didn't know that I thought it was just if you didn't disconnect them properly.

Go to Kmart. I work at one, and we don't do preorders. All you need to do is be first in line when they open (which won't be that hard, considering everyone always forgets about Kmart), and hurry back to the electronics section and grab an associate to get your **** from behind the glass.

I'll probably keep one in the back for myself, though. :P

That's actually exactly what I did last time, in fact the employees asked me why I was there and when I said I was there for the new Nintendo console, they laughed and said they sold out earlier that week, thinking I meant PS3 which launched earlier that week. I was lucky because they only had three consoles total in stock. That was such a crazy time.

265
I am not sure who most of those people are or what any of that stuff means, I don't care much for "new" or "fresh" I just want them to continue making quality titles in their main franchises above all else.

I guess I will just have to wait till after the new year then. I want one but financially I am not in a place to pay what scalpers are asking and from what I gather it's getting harder to pre-order.

267
What I meant is it's no big deal, to me. Because I sold the console with games included so as far as I am concerned it's the same as when I sold my SNES carts. I still prefer playing on the original hardware whenever possible, for me the Virtual Console was about the only saving grace the Wii had going for it, until I found out I was spending way too much money on games I already had on the physical cart. It was a convenience factor but the way I see it, I have purchased Super Mario World enough times, I am okay with using "alternative" methods to play it now.

General Chat / Re: Favorite movie directors?
« on: October 29, 2012, 02:00:50 PM »
Favorite movie directors, let's see there is Kevin Smith, um George Lucas, kidding. I don't think I could list favorite directors, they asked this on the blu ray.com forums and it was not pretty. I think it is safer to ask what a persons favorite movies are or favorite genre of movies personally. I never understood the following a director concept considering each person can have their share of hit's and misses.

To be honest even if I liked a movie I still don't think I would give all the credit to the director. I took a film making class last year and while directors do certainly deserve their share of the credit, it takes a lot of collaboration to make a good film. Speaking of which the film I made, is not the standard for good.

I disagree entirely, I never cared for anime as an artistic style so it looks rather rushed to me. I see a lot of high quality American cartoons all the time. I am not going to go down the list because it looks like others have already done that. What I will add is that go back to the so-called golden age, and their animation sucked. Those are classic cartoons we hold in high regard but seriously feature length full budget animated films have always had a higher standard than cheap, low budget television crap. The problem is not is animation an art form or who pays more or whatever, the problem is animation is much more demanding than something like comic books, for instance. Even the best animators get tired of drawing essentially the same thing over and over, and to that end isn't most animation these days all done on a computer anyways?

General Chat / Re: So what are your hobbies other than Videogames?
« on: October 29, 2012, 01:43:04 PM »
I would say it depends on your definition of a hobby. I like to paint, write stories, build model trains, read a good book, those are my "hobbies." In reality though, outside of school, I just mostly do home work and watch TV in my spare time. I used to collect Transformers figures, but ever since those stupid movies came out that has turned into an impossibility.

General Chat / Re: Bands that I like (but other people hate)...
« on: October 29, 2012, 12:44:38 AM »
I will probably get some hate for this but for me the 90's were the worst time for rock music. Every band I liked either came from the late 70's to early 80's. Nothing has come out in the last decade that I can even tolerate at all. I used to be really into rap music but I grew up. Now all I can listen to is 80's pop and lot's of Kylie Minogue. The only 90's band I really did like was Garbage, I got into No Doubt when they came out but I think that was just because it was cool to like them.

I wasn't even sure if I wanted a tablet until I tried Windows 8 and now I think Windows 7 is so sluggish it's almost painful. If anything though I would get a hybrid.

I am torn when it comes to Apple, I love the iPod classic, I have a brand new 180 GB model I got less than a year ago. I also just got an iphone for my 30th birthday which was a major upgrade to my previous outdated flip phone I had since 2006. But I hate everything they make that has the name Mac in it.

General Gaming / Re: ESRB to introduce free ratings for download games
« on: October 29, 2012, 12:10:00 AM »
I wonder what the world would be like if the government had stepped in back in the 90's instead of letting the ESRB form. Do you think it would have been better or worse for gaming? As for how this news will affect indie developers, anything obstacle removed is a good thing I think.

General Gaming / Re: Game systems are not irrelevant. Here's why...
« on: October 29, 2012, 12:05:02 AM »
I have been on the fence with this for a couple of years myself, going back and forth. I have an iphone instead of a 3DS even though I have owned every previous Nintendo handheld to date including both versions of the original DS and all of the different Gameboys. I agree that PC's are moving away from traditional desktop machines to more portable laptops and tablets but even that is still a long ways off. I don't think gaming in general is going to disappear forever, I do think it will dwindle back down to early 90's levels though, which can not sustain the current model which would force someone, be is Sony, or MS, to bow out. To be honest WiiU is the first game console since Gamecube I am excited for, Wii I had some high hopes for but I had a bad feeling about it going in.
