Gah! What's with all this stupid racket? Bad enough I'm forced to live in this third-rate dump, now I have to put up with all this stupid blather to boot. I'm using six tentacles to block my ears, AND I CAN STILL HEAR YOU!!!

zzz.... zzzz..... zzzz.... ZNNRK! Hoo? Hooo! oh dear! I seem to have slept... *yaaawn* ... a tad bit too long...! Allow me to extend my deepest gratitude to you, Octavian! It does send a figurative jolt to my cerebellum hearing my name spoken with such bravado! Really!

... It seems that I have once again, I missed the vagrant who has been vandalizing the museum property! this time they left this most detestable pattern in the lawn outside the broken window! All it seems to be is the words "GIT GUD" in big, bold, red marker! who would dare even -USE- such bad grammar to describe one's lack of skill! There is only one man-child I know who is so immature...!

Vote Crimm!

1227
who... WHO?! n-no! I couldn't even imagine such a thing, good sir! never! I'm merely a museum curator, attempting to curate a very empty museum...! of course, I'm always happy to accept donations at any time! I suppose... at the same time though, I am thankful for the lack of donations. The local ruffians would most certainly deface the art, tug on the wishbones of the fossils, or... dare I say, let all the insects loose!

Hoo! I-I can't imagine what I would do if there was so many of the creepy, crawly insectoids and arachnids let loose within the pristine halls of my home...! I mean, I find them interesting, but I simply cannot stand to observe their behavior unless their is a thick sheet of bullet-proof and reinforced glass between myself and the tiny, monstrous things!

regardless, no, good sir. I posses no garden in front of the museum unto which I would require the use of a hoe... unless... Oh! dear heavens! are you perhaps referring to the recent and emerging slang for...! H-how absolutely uncouth! uncivilized! underhanded! I will let you know that I am h-happily in a relationship and require no such services!

I must digress, however. There is no point in pointing the feather of blame for any of the museum's recent mishaps. The hoodlums throwing bricks in the windows tend to do so in broad daylight! The authorities have been no help, so I will attempt to stay awake during the waking day before coming to my conclusion on whom to vote for...!

... but perhaps a nap is in order first. Regardless, I do hope that Shangri'la becomes a more peaceful place where culture may bloom and knowledge proliferate much the same way mussels and other coral formations tend to spread around a new object that happens to have come to rest at the bottom of the ocean~!

Screw that noise! I drew my own!

Fun fact! Will Wright was inspired by the look of the original A-train on Macintosh, and designed SimCity 2000 after it!

NWR Mafia Games / Re: Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Old Feud Roleplaying
« on: June 16, 2014, 12:19:05 AM »
There is but one character that I feel I could play in an Animal Crossing themed roleplay of any sort. a character that could fit the long winded and introspective sort of posts I strive for with complete and utter scientific accuracy! He also happens to fit in with my Nocturnal nature and would allow me to just properly articulate my thoughts and opinions through the process of my first Mafia game!

Ladies and gentlemen, probably the animal crossing NPC with the single most ammount of dialogue of any character in the entire series! I present you with none other than...

BLATHERS!

1231
Also, good news! It turns out my friend still had his Vita wallpaper. :3

1232
... I had a feeling you were fishing desperately for participation. As long as I don't have to change my forum icon to an animal crossing character, I'll be fine.

Is it a dealbreaker? It isn't something you have to keep forever but it can lead to a person being targeted day 1 if everyone else is doing it and you aren't. I don't always like to change my avatar but I don't mind doing it for the short while I play a mafia game.

I can change it, I just... lost the source file that I made it when my last computer died. :/ I'm trying to see if any of my friends have at least another edit of it; I do know I have a friend that asked for it as a Vita Wallpaper.

EDIT: Famous last words

I should probably say something before it's too late, huh? I"ll slide in with a good... 3 hours to spare! I'm not sure how the heck this'll work, but uh... let's do this? I think?

Dr. Metts, you speak of Hooktail, the boss of Petalberg! http://www.mariowiki.com/Hooktail

If it wasn't for the fact that you happen to be a busy game journalist guy, I'd say that you REALLY owe an english playthrough of The Thousand Year Door, because I think it's probably one of the treehouse's finest examples of localization next to maybe like... Kid Icarus Uprising or maybe Bowser's inside story? It's really super duper witty, and those first two Paper Mario games more than any other Mario game make the Mushroom Kingdom and it's offshoots feel like living, breathing worlds.

It was enjoyable to watch for the most part.  The announcers were horribly cringy, in my opinion though.  Is that commonplace for professional Smash tournaments?

It actually usually doesn't. I think there were a couple of contributing factors to the lacklustre commentary; they were probably asked to avoid using swearing or derrogitory terms. they were probably also asked to avoid using technical terms that the less initiated would not understand, such as DI, SHFFL, move priority, etc. They probably aren't initiated with the items and had a bit of trouble telling what the hell was going on for most of it besides the last match between Hungrybox and Zero, where the commentary flowed a little more naturally.

Speaking of which, I think Hungrybox went into it with the right strategy of avoiding the fray at all costs and being very oppertunistic with his KO's. The Smash Bros. documentary paints the guy as somebody who may not possess as much manual dexterity as the crazy ass people wave dashing all over the place and tossing out 6 NAirs a second via mastery of SHFFL, but he plays smart and he plays... well, about as cheap and gimmicky of tactics as he possibly can, hence his mastery of Jigglypuff's 'wall of death' strategy.

The Mega Man V discussion is delicious! I honestly would take Mega Man V over Mega Man 7, which is the console game I feel this would be the closest to in terms of screen crunch and the way it handles things like E-tank inventory management/shopping.

I kinda wish they didn't have as many walls of text there, but I suppose I have a soft spot for the stardroids from reading the excelent Mega Man Gigamix published in the states by Udon entertainment. Hitoshi Ariga's reimagining of the Stardroids honestly makes them pretty awesome, especially what he ended up doing with Sunstar.

Something I do feel will be kind-of lost on Johnny as he continues his playthrough of Mega Man V that especially resonated with me was the boss rush with all the mega man killers. Even though Quint is a complete joke of a character and a boss, having these characters who were a big draw for the other portable Mega Man titles return for one last hurrah really resonated with me, and I feel that it worked out FAR better than Doc Robot ever did.

... by the way, it's time for me to do something that I will continue to do until somebody tells me to stop, and that's plug https://sites.google.com/site/rockman4mi/, which has several of the enemies and some level setpieces from Mega Man V in color and in a proper NES Mega Man title along with 8-bitified Mega Man 7 and 8 sprites, all sorts of craziness from other Mega Man games, and... it's all blended together in such a way that makes it a fantastic tribute to it and many other games, such as with the subtle Final Fantasy 8 [ugh] references with Rush's abilities or the random Gradius level.

Lindy, that introduction was so bad it crashed my flash plugin.

I'm genuinely curious if the Nintendo rep used the "Please understand" statement in an ironic manner.

I feel ashamed that 'Please Understand' memes are what came to mind first here as well.

In all seriousness, though, I do hope this isn't anything TOO serious. I have a lot of respect for Iwata as both a developer [I'm pretty sure that Iwata may have directed my first game I ever got for the game boy, Revenge of the 'Gator] and as the most charismatic salaryman who doesn't fluently speak english.

Heck, I have an idea! If he's still able to do the pre-produced video, maybe they'll conduct the Q&A sessions he's supposed to have attended via Wii U chat  and we end up getting more mangled Reggie Japanese as well?

« on: June 03, 2014, 02:11:05 PM »
that's... kinda a sad episode title unintentionally... Like Ty Shughart is his last friend in the whole world... Minoru is too busy playing Dark Souls, and James has all his time taken up by living the deathtrap that is the salaryman's life. When Danny Bivens realizes that he will hear about nothing but Killer instinct 3 for the rest of his lonely life, he has to chose between asking Matt Walker to cut his life short or if he's willing to carry that friendship.

Next time on Famicast; Session 36: FINAL TOMODACHI. See Ya 'round, space cowboy...

My HM Slave, who NEVER personally saw the light of combat once during my initial playthrough was level 87 by the time my first run through of the game was finished.

Christ dude. No offense, but that sounds like a you problem. I fought nearly every trainer I could throughout the game and my event Blaziken (that gets faster EXP growth due to technically being "traded"), which I used frequently, barely broke level 70 by the time I beat the game. And that was with EXP share on the entire game.

All right, you got me. I guess during my first playthrough my team saw a LOT of restructuring to accommodate for some of the things i got via Wonder Trade like Gale Wings Fletchling and Protean Froakie, so that might have added to my HM Hawlucha being a bit overleveled. that, and I was trying to regularly go back and do Battle Chateau, which builds levels and money with how many battles you have to do to make it to duke/duchess.

I suppose EXP share and the changes to the EXP table  are relatively small pickings compared to some of the more egregious things about Pokemon X and Y such as the frame rate that constantly shits itself, the wishy-washy use of the stereoscopic effect, the bizzare decision to have 4 characters performing the role that 1 well developed one used to do just fine, Whatever the **** Lysander's plan was and the whole of Team Flare being stupid, the lack of new postgame areas besides Kiloude City and the really sly way that they tried to make it look like you were going to be able to ride your pokemon, but instead they just made 3 REALLY tedious gimmick routes where you have bizzare tank controls on a grid.

Not that they're bad games! Gamefreak are masters at their craft! the fun is still there, and everything they have on the bottom screen is AMAZING! if there are not at least equivalents to the PSS, Super Training, and Pokemon'amie in future games, they will have dropped the ball so hard. Especially the PSS and it's extreme ease of trade with things like Wonder Trade. Wonder Trade is especially amazing as it's motivated me for the first time ever to try and fill the pokedex. It also has me turning on my Pokemon X version every day, as having SO many pokemon with different Original Trainer IDs means that I pretty much get something from the lottery every day, which until this gen, I thought was a vestigial organ left over from GSC. There's also so many little time savers here and there that give people who naturally breed their pokemon a heck of a lot more of a chance competitively then those folks who just bought an R4 and saved themselves the trouble by save editing in a perfect team to play some multiplayer with.

If you don't like Exp. Share, just turn it off. I don't think Nintendo owes players anymore than the option of not using it. It's been a great thing for me, but if you don't want it, you can just pretend it doesn't exist. Everybody wins.

Are you two really so concerned about other people's Pokemon experiences that you don't trust them to decide for themselves whether to use such a feature?

Sorry if I came off that way. I understand and respect why people like Pokemon that way in the same way that I enjoy using Kirby as a fun way to decompress and not take on that great of a challenge. I think with these games that have some sort of form of super guide or whatever that they should have some sort of mark that denotes that they have taken this lax route to their game.

So, my proposal is a bit different than Alex Kulafi's; how about the EXP share provides Experience points without providing Effort Value?  the post game can have an Effort share item, but I think if you don't give enough of a **** to want to play a balanced JRPG, then you also shouldn't even give enough of a **** to understand the effort mechanic and won't notice that your pokemon are missing that extra edge  to their stats. it'd also make the EXP share a good tool for getting pokemon leveled without EVs.

No, Johnny, EXP. Share does not 'Divide', it gives 50% of what they would have earned for participation. they changed the EXP table. it USED to divide EXP in 5th generation and back, now it just gives full participation credit if you switch a pokemon out. This drastic change to how EXP is budgeted as well as the dirth of pokemon the game repeatedly feeds you makes this by far the easiest generation to Nuzlocke, and it also means that by the time you get to the elite four if you've stuck with one team and aren't actively avoiding all battles, you're going to be about 20 levels over leveled for the endgame stuff. My HM Slave, who NEVER personally saw the light of combat once during my initial playthrough was level 87 by the time my first run through of the game was finished. Also, O-powers are in the Pokemon Search System menu. it's meant for multiplayer use, although you can use O-powers on yourself for double the cost. *shrugs* there is a bit of hyperbole in the menu discussion. Also, Miltank is from Gold and Silver and is pretty awesome sauce. Miltank was why the Goldenrod Gym was kinda tricky in Johtoh.

James talking about Catherine was really keen. <3 It actually reminds me of a somewhat silly pic a friend of mine drew one time.

Yeah, besides Hugs, Ken is coming out of retirement and looking to be in the same round as Korean DJ! :D thanks Smash Bros. documentary!

I kinda winced as well when I saw that Dorito pope was going to MC the event.  I'll probably end up watching VGX awards from last year again to watch ol' Geoff try to desperatley hold that show together.

you folks are also forgetting the canceled Armature Studios game "X", and the canceled "By Popular Demand" Rockman Xover.

The other thing you have to remember is that Gregaman was also hired on by Capcom specifically to serve as liaison and translator between the Japanese and English versions of the Mega Man Legends 3 Devroom. I've heard the man on The Mega Man Network's old Megacast and I've seen his posts. If ANY guy at capcom is lobbying for the blue bomber, it's him, even if he has very little power and has to make statements like these to try and quell the fires that start in the closest of close Capcom forums.

I actually REALLY like this game.  heck, I even did a little bit of fan art of Takamaru one time for funsies.

http://clexyoshi.deviantart.com/art/I-felt-like-drawing-Takamaru-okay-430679585 yes, I know it's kinda shoddy, but fuckit, man! I would buy this game if it came to the US... or if... y'know, Nintendo were to announce that Mysterious Murasame Castle was the next franchise they're going to give the Kid Icarus treatment, only it's developed by Platinum Games. <3 <3 <3
