General Chat / Re: Dinosaur Discussion Questions ROUND 2
« on: November 04, 2012, 11:55:10 PM »
How much do we know about their behavior?

For instance did T-Rex gather in packs? Or how did they hunted? I think on Dinosaur Revolution (which from i what i understand is pretty reliable as far as TV goes) i remember some remark about T-Rexes and other similar carnivorous dinosaurs attacking from ambush?

How is that even possible? They are huge! Where did the hide in? Lion attacking from ambush makes sense -- they hide in grass, but what was there to hide T Rexes?

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Wii U game reviews.

- Multiplayer games are fun, but GamesMaster says the single-player ones are sometimes forgettable
- A few games highlight “some seemingly inherent problems”
- Ex: Takamaru’s Ninja Challenge – “constant screen misalignment”
Ninja Castle minigame uses gyro aiming, that must be what they mean by "misalignment".
Nintendo, why you do this when you have perfectly working IR aiming right there?
Other points only confirm my decision of not getting this game. Funny how the only interesting thing in Nintendo Land to me is graphics -- it just looks so lush and bright.

New Super Mario Bros. U
- More to the game outside of the main campaign
- Most of the innovation is saved for the final levels
- “Without wishing to spoil anything, we were surprised, excited, and twinkly-eyed during an excellent finale. It’s almost as if Nintendo suddenly realised that they were in fact working with a Wii U, with a game-changing GamePad and everything.”
Aw yeah, go Mario.

It seems to be going the way of SML3D Land which is fine cause that game was great, but hopefully this time post game stuff won't be just remixed levels made harder.

I have to disagree their since it reliable crashed my Gamecube.  That being said a $30 HD Remake I buy.
I bought used copy last year and apparently it was scratched or something. Imagine beating hard challenge and get an error message about faulty disc D:
Still, great game.

Shin'en's "FAST Racing League"
It's good but levels are not as crazy, and no tunnel levels from what i see.

It could be the reimbursement model (wiiware had to sell 5,000 copies before developer saw a dime) coupled with the lack of storage options that is putting EA off.
Too bad EA did nothing on WiiWare...

And eShop doesn't have that restriction...

And Wii U as a matter of fact has more storage options than any other consoles.

I actually thought of one case where the browser would be useful, for watching online video on the TV.
Well, you know what internet is for.

3157
Here ya go its the result page so you can do comparisons.
Laughing my head off at Maxthon being at first place.

But the link you should be looking for is actually

http://html5test.com/results/gaming.html

Also, the address needs to be fixed in article, cause html5.com site seems to be unrelated.

Also a few points while looking at detailed report:

http://html5test.com/compare/browser/nintendowiiu.html

Both SVG and canvas elements are supported, which basically opens up possibilities for HTML5-based games.
Video seems okay, Youtube is gonna work at least
Access to webcam and uploading video from gamepad camera seems to be locked down on purpose which is a shame

As a web developer I'm glad that Wii U is gonna have good web compatible browser.

I'm just sad it's not Opera browser anymore (of which i'm a huge fan). Loved Wii's Opera browser, it seriously helped me out during one month when i broke both my PC and my leg.

Wii U's browser is NetFront again, right? Like on 3DS?

Their efforts towards building a robust web browser understandable considering it's gonna be the foundation of their entire interface system.

  • The option to use Paypal to pay for games.
What for? I'm forced to use it sometimes and i hate paying them a dollar every time for basically nothing. What do they even do except for being an unnecessary middle man?
I really want to know if there's any advantages to them compared to usual (virtual) credit cards.

  • A universal account system per user.
  • Use purchased items on more than device like the iPhone and iPad.
Yes, please. I lost my original 3ds last month, so former has become especially important for me. Latter is tricky though, considering their virtual console is not unified and doesn't look like it will be anytime soon.

  • Periodic Discounts for games.
Already there on eShop.

  • Features that include title search, shopping cart, wishlist, and reviews via Club Nintendo.
Search is there, you can sorta do shopping cart by choosing to download game in background.

Yeah, this ad is okay, but it's not gonna win Cannes Lions anytime soon.

Audio sounds like someone torturing a cat with musical saw though.

Also i see them banking big on SiNG game. Kinda disappointing that all of the footage was Nintendo published titles:

New Super Mario Bros U
SiNG
Nintendo LAnd Ninja Castle
Lego City Stories
Nintendo TVii
Nintendo Land Mario Chase
Nintendo Land Mario Battle

No Rayman but i guess with it delayed and being third-party, it's understandable...

Also whats's with the FOX copyright in the middle of the ad saying that sequence is shortened? There is longer version?

Wait a sec, so there are THREE Mario teams now? The Team that did the Galaxy games and 3D Land, the team that did NSMB DS and Wii and U, and the young team that did NSMB2?
Galaxy 1 and 2 were made by two different teams with two different directors inside Tokyo studio. Galaxy 2 team then made 3D Land.
NSMB series is being made by EAD 4 and NSMB2 was made by interns of that studio basically.

I can't wait when they will reveal what has Galaxy 1 team, EAD Tokyo 1, has been doing all this years!

I wonder what's going to happen with European Club Nintendo stuff, since we already have similar stuff here: you buy games and systems, get Club Тintendo "stars" and then trade "stars" for Wii Shop points.

We didn't have to wait long to get a confirmation of the rumor.

The rumours about this actually started a year ago and that's quite long, but you probably mean that yesterday's famitsu leak was the rumour here.

Nintendo Network Premium program? How's that different from club nintendo rewards we already have? At first i thought it's gonna be like discount for DD titles, but no -- you just get points for buying games that you waste on MORE games.
Is it really a waste if you want those games? For anyone who downloads a lot of games (or plans to), the Deluxe Digital Program is a great deal.
Oh, i'm going to download quite a lot of eShop games. Nano Assault for sure and maaaaybe Trine, for starters.

But see, to justify me overpaying 50 euro for DDP (because it's really the only thing about Deluxe bundle that's i'm interested in) i would need to be sure i will save those 50 Euros within two first years. To save 50 euros i will need to spend 500 euros first.

Am i sure i am going to spend as much within first two years? Not sure.

Or maybe i am just trying to justify my earlier purchase really hard because when i made that order in August i chose it because of colour and there were no info about the differences between models. And because i can't really change it now, with Black Deluxe set being sold out everywhere.

Additonal plastic stuff? I'd pay to get rid of that.
250 Euro package -- here i come.

There miiight be problems with amazon though, in which case i might probably will be forced to switch retailers. But the order will be the same, plus maybe Tekken Tag 2.

Interesting how that BiTF comic got featured in both RFN and NFR within a week (by the way you should read Brawl in the Family, it's pretty neat, and History of Nintendo video is absolutely fantastic).

As to Pushmo, i don't get all the complaints about tutorial levels. Or maybe i don't remember them. Or probably it's because i'm that slow guy to whom those tutorials are aimed at.

TMNT. I believe the right continuity is TMNT (2003) --> TMNT CGI feature (2007) --> Turtles Forever.

New TMNT is okay, kinda on the safe side, loved the opening with song and all the references and all the little things they put in (Rafael's stealth walk).

TMNT 2003, i once caught it on TV during saturday morning and it was a marathon or something and it was basically 7 or so episodes and it was all linear story and that's something i really like in cartoons. Also they beheaded Shredder right in the first two minutes so of course i was hooked. I didn't watched it much after that, but i kinda respect this show based on what i saw from the show and from two movies both of which i loved.

You laughed at SF2 re-releases during Wii downloads recommendations, but how about the latest version of Street Fighter 2 for Genesis with online? I bought it and played it for a few weeks but i think noone's playing online now.

Love Iwata Asks. My favourite parts were when Iwata didn't talk about game in question, but when he shared some of his experiences.

Like when he talked how he wrote down home computer memory dumps by hand to disassembly them because he had no printer.

Or how he ported Pokemon battle code from Gameboy to N64. Without any documentation available. In his free time. Within a week. While already being a president of HAL Labs.

Or how he taught Mario designers how to make underwater movement floaty and smooth, because they couldn't figure it out.

And i love GameCenter CX. Arino's laugh is just so infectious.

Now if someone would translate Donkey Kong 94 episode that they had in previous Nintendo Direct...

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Last Story sells...

Yes, and I try to make sure to never quote anything as "sales" data, unless it's the Virtual Console and WiiWare titles, because then it's easy to do the math on the reported numbers and how much has possibly been made... but even then it's never stated as ALL sold.
Thanks for the site and your work!

Just went through your reports about VC games:
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has 240,177 Wii owners that have reported game-play data through the Nintendo Channel in the United States, with 1,722 days possibly reported
Super Smash Bros. has 1,126,147 Total Hours of game-play reported, from approximately 71,107 U.S. Wii owners that have reported data
Super Mario Bros. 3 has approximately 798,090 U.S. Wii owners that have reported game-play data through the Nintendo Channel, with 1,701 days reported
Paper Mario has approximately 191,273 U.S. Wii owners that have reported hours through the Nintendo Channel, with 1,862 days possibly reported since the game released
Super Mario 64 has about 305,260 Wii owners that have reported game-play data through the Wii's Nintendo Channel, with 1,772 days possibly reported since it was released.
Super Mario Bros. has approximately 618,052 U.S. Wii owners that have reported game-play hours through the Nintendo Channel, with 2,051 days possibly reported
Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards now has 935,279 Total Hours of gameplay reported, from approximately 89,306 U.S. Wii owners that have reported data through the Wii's Nintendo Channel
F-Zero X has 195,195 Total Hours of gameplay reported, from approximately 31,743 U.S. Wii owners that have reported gameplay hours through the Nintendo Channel since its U.S. release
Approximately 29,551 U.S. Wii owners have reported playing Wave Race 64 through the Wii's Nintendo Channel

Not bad for a bunch of roms, eh?

they can put a 320 gig hard drive in the wii-u for the cost of 32 gigs of flash memory and makes it happen.

I loved how you used music from "Are you afraid of the dark?" show.

You could have used youtube doubler service for your rifftrax segment, not sure how it would work, ince you'd have to upload your episode to youtube then...

I guess this means we won't be seeing any new 3DS colours or bundles this holiday. Oh well, the blue 3DS XL is a good enough colour, and there will probably be some retailer special on it if I pay attention.
I'm still waiting for NSMB2 3ds XL bundle to come out in PAL zone -- that dozen of 3ds games i bought before i lost original model aren't going to play themselves.

Though it did wonders to my backlog, i must admit...

At this point, hell, weeks and weeks before this point, we should have no questions about the Wii U launch.  We can still have questions about the Wii U but there should be no doubt and what's what on day one.
They still hadn't started doing ads and that big marketing push yet. They're probably more concerned with that at the moment, i guess...
