Virtual Console owns, I love spending $5-$10 on ROMs with no enhancements whatsoever
Getting US versions of games is an enhancement to us Europeans.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Why would Nintendo opt out of E3 this year?
« on: May 05, 2013, 04:54:24 AM »
There were – if I remember correctly – already rumours in 2011 about Nintendo wanting to pull out of the press conferences and focus more on the Directs but they did not do so because they still had to present the WiiU. As to why they would do it, I can only guess, but I think the ubiquitous explanation "they want to reach the consumer more" will most likely do the trick.

Incidentally, they are at GamesCom this year, which will probably mean that this explanation is sort of true.

How much variety does a game like EO have? Is there a lot of story? I can play a game for 70+ hours no problem, but not if I'm doing the same thing over and over.
I'll be blunt: If you're more into the character-heavy, Squaresoft/Square Enix kind of Japanese RPG, this will most likely not be a game you'll enjoy. Despite being a little more various than its predecessors, EO IV is still a kind of dungeon crawler. Although this is just my impression from the first few hours into the game, I've only just reached the second major area (or "land", as the game calls it), but if it stays true to the series' roots, there'll only be minor story developments. Which I actually consider to be fine, because I've grown a bit apart from the story-heavy style of RPG because recent games of that kind that I played kind of neglected the character customization part that I loved in RPGs like Final Fantasy V or FF Tactics.

On behalf of Iwata becoming CEO of NoA: Maybe James is right and nothing will change. But I'd really prefer it if Nintendo's western studios would be a bit more independent from their mother company. Because if Retro ever made a Zelda game, it should be solely their creation and not something that Aonuma or Miyamoto have their influence on.

I dumped GTA V in favour of this, as it looks like a way more interesting game. But I'm not sure if I'm getting this on release day as all my money will most likely flow into Zelda and BD:FF.

Kingdom Hearts Re:coded.

Turned out to be more entertaining than I expected from a port of a mobile phone game. I still need to finish up some of the post-game stuff though.

Can we just do a Fringe and put it all in a parallel universe?
Hasn't that already happened?

This may not be such a dumb idea. PS4 and XBox 3 will be all the rage at E3 and whatever Nintendo will present will most likely be marginalized, no matter what they present. Also, they apparently want different content for different people – the press, the developers and the consumers.

Good going, Nintendo.

If I were someone working at Nintendo, I'd look at the timeline, say "wtf is this?" and then proceed to tell the people working the Zelda IP that they should really rethink what they're doing.

Is a timeline really that necessary for Zelda to work? I believe it is not. And if it were necessary, Nintendo would be better off if they did it right from scratch than to try making the puzzle fit in a way that is based a lot on hypothetical scenarios.

But, if you ask me, the timeline should be the least thing of concern for Nintendo – or rather, the Zelda team – right now.

TalkBack / Re: Satoru Iwata Named CEO of Nintendo of America
« on: April 24, 2013, 06:33:22 PM »
I'll be frank: I consider this to be a rather unpleasant move by Nintendo/Iwata. Nintendo is already known for being very centralized and everything revolving around the Japanese teams at NCL in Kyoto. From where I stand, Nintendo needs to restructure the company to a way where Europe and America have a bit more freedom and are maybe allowed to open up their own development studios.

Unless they have changed it since the announcement at the Nintendo Direct, North America isn't getting Bravely Default until 2014.
Oh? Not until 2014? Then it'll be NoE who's getting my money for this one.

I think of Liberation Maiden as a nice game. It's short and a tad bit repetitive though, but I don't care coz it's got Anime High School Presidents in Bodysuits piloting Mechs.  ;)

Etrian Odyssey IV and I'm still waiting for it to arrive. (2 weeks by today)

Add Bravely Default to DAT LIST. They announced it for both Europe and NA for this holiday season. Also, SMT IV is getting an European release, courtesy of NoE.

So this means I need to get Fire Emblem and DKCR 3D before June 30th to get a free copy of Monster Hunter or Luigi's Mansion. Nintendo, Nintendo, why are you doing this to me...

...SUPER METROID 2 DEVELOPED BY RETRO!
That would be tremendous. However, I think that Retro must now walk their own paths and get rid of the stigma as Nintendo's "Metroid Team". If we must insist on Super Metroid 2 (which I'd really dig tbh), how about a team that has experience with HD sprites? Like WayForward?

Lots of good stuff during that Direct. I wish I hadn't missed out on it and didn't dare to go to IRC and got all the spoilers.

Oh well. Here's my impression:

Bravely Default is by far the title that I'm most excited about after having heard from buddies with a Japanese 3DS that it's like a spiritual successor to the classic Final Fantasy games – mainly FF V and IX – and I listened the sh*t out of its gorgeous soundtrack. And unlike another Square Enix game which a lot of people were excited about it's at least coming to "the west".

Zelda... oh well. I'm sort of pumped up about finally getting to play the Oracles but I agree with Adrock on the topic of "A Link to the Past 2". I'm not that hot and bothered about it, but I'll probably buy it anyway. It's Zelda, after all.

Mario & Luigi... kind of neat, but not my favourite out of the presented software.

NSLU – nah, I'm getting Rayman Legends.

Yoshi's Island – maybe. But probably not.

DKCR 3D – definitely.

Earthbound – I've never played it, but I am sort of excited about this game. May it even be a sign for a new Mother title?

Layton and the Azran Legacies – 2014 is still a bit far away, but there'll be Ace Attorney 5 as the pause snack.

Mario & Donkey Kong – nah. Never liked it.

Mario Golf – no thanks.

Mario Party – I'm mainly a solo player, so this is another "nah"... unless there'll be plenty of people to play it with like with Mario Kart 7.

Pikmin 3 – I think this is the WiiU game I'm the most excited about, but with Wind Waker HD and a lot of new games on the horizon, it's kind of marginalized.

I know it sounds silly, but some of that energy and feeling of involvement is lost when you're playing a game months later.
This. And while it may seem that I'm repeating myself: It is especially true for Europeans. We're still the unloved stepchild of the industry.

I prefer a strategy guide book over any kind of online document. Really. They're neat to look at in your shelf (especially Collector's Editions), they're better sorted, they've got nice artwork and maps (in some cases, these are really a help compared to descriptions in a text). Gamefaqs and the like are useful if you just want to take a quick glance, but... imho these sites don't stand a chance against guides.

Really? Is it really necessary to bring out a new version of a console when its successor which offers backwards compatibility is selling sub-par?

Internet bullying thread is back and AnGer is about to lose his lunch money because he likes region locking!

While many people may regard this as bullshit, I do not consider it a bad idea, because it is (from my p.o.v.) easier to make an appointment for a match if you all live in the same timezone (or close timezones).

See you after school :evil;

Always made my own lunch, no money to lose there.  8)
