TalkBack / Re: Why the Donkey Kong Country Delay Isn't That Bad

If this would make the lineup for this fiscal year less platformer–heavy, it'd be positive. But, aside from Wind Waker HD, the only exclusive "core games" coming out until the arrival of (shot in the dark) Mario Kart 8 will be platformers, both 2D and 3D.

This'll be the birthday/christmas present I am going to make myself. :D

I like the idea behind this. It'll probably mean that certain items won't become dead weight after beating the respective dungeon.

I'm hoping there will be a Megaman style master combination in which the dungeons should be played.
That's definitely going to happen.

Can't disagree. Kingdom Hearts I has almost painfully slow combat and whenever I go back to it, I am surprised by how little you can do compared to KH II and above. You could say they matched the series' growing craze to its combat system.

Currently playing something faster-paced, namely Ys: The Oath in Felghana, which I theoretically have finished, but since Falcom is apparently a bunch of jerks, I need to replay it on every difficulty to get access to all of the bonus content.

Hooray for New Game+ at this point, because importing stats, cash and weapon lv. makes it less tedious to do the easier difficulties

Ys I & II Chronicles on PSP.

With Ys seven, I was questioning the opinion of some people calling the series a "Zelda knockoff" because it felt more akin to Seiken Densetsu to me, although it featured a fair amount of things not typical for a straightforward ARPG.

Ys I & II on the other hand were much closer to a Zelda game, but still feel different. Combat, while still a little tactical, is faster and more direct, the lack of handholding felt refreshing (although it was a tad bit annoying to recheck everything because it has absolutely no handholding whatsoever) and for once, auto heal was done right.

On the looks side, I need to state that I am a sucker for Falcom's anime look. The character portraits look lovely, but not too out of place or too generically bishoujo-ish (which has taken over every anime style game nowadays). The music on the other hand... ergh. I used the "Chronicles" music and it sounded just not right – too speedy, too "pop-ish" and while not bad in and of itself, not befitting the game.

While not perfect by any means, Ys I & II: Chronicles is a game that should be played, because it felt really long since playing such a fun ARPG for me.

On to Ys: The Oath in Felghana... and after that, Memories of Celceta.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: The world of 3DS revisions.

I say I won't buy it and I mean that. Yes, I am intrigued by it but there are two things that keep me from purchasing it, its lower battery runtime compared to that of the 3DS (which even can be extended) and the 3DSXL and the fact that there are no plans to release it in Japan (at least for the time being), which might have gotten me to buy a third device for even more imported games.

I dare not speak for others though...

My first reaction was rage.
My second was "eh, whatever".

SRSLY though... chill out. You don't need to buy it if you don't want it.

Pretty good as of late. Most indie games and a lot of bigger games are there these days, so I've got no complaints.
Plus you can always install Windows if you miss it.

Replacing the Gamepad with a more "premium" model sounds like a plan. I recently got to try it and was shocked how much of a cheap toy vibe you get from it. Also, they should redesign the console or at least replace the 00's glossy finish with a high-grade matte.

Just think of how much glorious space you would have in your houses if you didn't have to cover every wall with shelves holding every game, cd, movie and book you own.
Considering the saying that your usage of space in your room/house is a depiction of your mind, I'd prefer people thinking of my mind as a mess rather than an empty space. :D

As long as the companies offering digital distribution consider it a "service" rather than an actual form of "ownership", I'll prefer retail over digital. That being said, I am okay with buying digitally distributed games, but not fully priced titles that are also available through retail, since – like Do_What said – prices tend to drop really fast in retail (with the exception of most of Nintendo's in-house games) whereas digitally distributed games are pretty constant in their pricing and they even start off at the same price point as the retail version.

Concerning Nintendo, I'd even go so far as to say that I will not drop a large amount of money on their DDL stuff unless they manage to fix their ridiculous account system.

I think I'll utilize my vacation to play Project X Zone, Mario & Luigi, SMT IV and Fire Emblem. Or I'm taking my Wii with me and finish up Pandora's Tower and The Last Story.

41
Awesome, wasn't sure if this would make it out of Japan since it's a remake. That also means I'm not terribly interested in the game, but will grab it down the line when it gets cheap.
It's an extended remake, to be precise. One mode features an all-new story while the other features classic EO dungeon-crawling gameplay. Both should come with the features of EO IV.

42
As much as I love both Metroid and Donkey Kong (heck, these might even be the two Nintendo franchises I adore the most), I think Retro should stop working on them and create something new. They have the power and the will to do that.

As for Metroid, I'd really like to see another 2D-sidescrolling-game come out of it – on the 3DS. Epic Mickey, Mighty Switch Force and probably the new Shantae prove that 2D sprites and backgrounds work extremely well with the 3D effect and I'd go for that game day fucking one.

43
EO IV, Dragon's Crown, SMT IV, Persona 4: Golden, EO Untold... can someone give me Atlus' address so I can just send them my credit card?

44
What the man says.

In addition to that, my personal impression is that parts of the used games market have been somewhat "perverted". My usual games shop takes any game from since the dawn of video games... Gamestop on the other hand refuses anything older than this generation. Which kind of defies one of the merits the used game market has.

@NWR_insanolord: Prices drop quickly on products that don't sell because retailers want to get rid of them. Games that sell aren't marked down that quickly.

45
All right, you so sold me this game.

46
At launch? No. Down the road? A PS4

I'm gonna go with Soren here... won't pick up a PS4 until one of these titles comes out, my PS3 and 360 backlog should suffice until KHIII's release. Also, I was not disappointed by the WiiU, so I might get that first anyway.

The game is so far away that it doesn't matter yet.
While I won't argue about your personal feelings, showing off games that are coming in a few years (frankly, I believe that Kingdom Hearts III will be out by 2016 at latest) gives potential buyers a perspective about what's in store for them a little down the road. This is something Nintendo is currently lacking – we do not have any clue about what's coming to both the WiiU and especially the 3DS beyond the coming holiday season. While it shouldn't turn into something like Sony did with The Last Guardian, having at least a little something to be a little excited about is what would give both WiiU and 3DS a perspective and leaves us consumers with a sense of longevity.

The only thing that might be a thorn in Sony's side is that PS+ is now a necessity to gain access to online multiplayer. But with regards to the retail price point and the other features PS+ offers, it is safe to assume that the majority of the consumers will not be too annoyed by this.

A price drop is to be expected. Not at tomorrow's/today's Direct, because they already might have that finished, but I think that the Premium model is getting a price cut amounting to at least 50$/€, if not 100$/€ and the Basic model will be completely removed from the market.
