It is saddening that my Japanese is quite bad, since I'd love to import that game. Played its (spiritual) predecessor on the PS2 and loved it.

Well... I haven't played all of it (since I lost my PSP with the game data on the memory stick), but if you prefer a slightly different approach to the Harvest Moon gameplay, it'll be worth your while, even though it is very simulation-heavy in the beginning and the story doesn't progress that fast.

TalkBack / Re: Scary Nintendo Memories
« on: November 04, 2012, 07:39:06 AM »
If you ask me, the scariest Nintendo game out there is Metroid Fusion. When I was 10 that game scared the crap out of me on several occasions. :L
You mean when "that enemy" showed up? Yeah, that psyched me out as well (and I was four to five years older) and it still drives my pulse to new heights whenever I get to these parts of the game.

One thing that gave me nightmares (note: I was 18 at the time) was the first form of the final boss in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Being mixed up with some elements from Saw.

Rune Factory. And they get good reviews.

Plus there's Innocent Life, which is close to Rune Factory in its explorative and RPG-esque gameplay elements, but is set in a SciFi world instead of a fantasy one.

General Chat / Re: Questions for the NWR Japan crew

I have another question for the Famicrew:

Earlier this year, when Okami Zekkeiban (aka Okami HD) was announced, Capcom said that they would bring the retail version only to Japan due to the "fact" that japanese people prefer retail games over downloadable games – as opposed to America and Europe, where downloads are (at least according to them) more popular. Thus, I'd like to ask whether this statement is true and if it is, I'd like to know why.

I thought Okami HD was download only?

Only in Europe and America. Japan and Asia got a retail version – even a special edition with a snow globe (though "cherry blossom globe" would seem more appropriate) – because people in this region tend to prefer retail over download according to Capcom.

Retail:

^Okami Zekkei-ban (PS3) (aka Okami HD), Asia version with english text.

Download:
Corpse Party (PSP), Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle (PSP), Riff: Everyday Shooter (PSP), Tomba! (PSone classics), Ys Seven (PSP). After hearing that the Asia retail version of Okami Zekkei-ban comes with english screentext, I've decided to cash the PSN cards I bought in for PSP games instead. No need to carry UMDs now.

I'm pretty sure there was at least one other. I can't help but think Viacom was one of them...

Nope. According to wikipedia, a site named Snowball.com was interested in buying in, but the deal was broken off when they got flushed away after the .com-bubble burst.

Nintendo has answered:

So then, do you think there's going to be a massive shitstorm and how much money will Nintendo ask for as compensation (if they ever sue for compensation)?

Reader Reviews / Re: Rate The Last Game You Played
« on: October 16, 2012, 02:34:53 PM »
Since I was planning to unplug my Wii this weekend with every game I currently own finished (gonna buy a few more nonetheless, but keep them on-hold) I decided to play through one last game. My choice turned out to be the Gamecube version of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, a game I have not touched ever since it came out about six years ago and I had mixed feelings about.

The control schematics is easy to understand, since it is mostly the same as in The Wind Waker, with a few minor changes to it. A serves as the universal action button, B is for attacking, X & Y are for items, Z calls Link's sidekick Midna, R is a secondary action button and L is for targeting or placing the camera behind Link. Unlike in the other 3D installments of the series, Link uses his shield automatically when pressing L unless a different item like the slingshot is in use.

I found combat to be rather challenging, especially in the latter areas where you face off against foes that can not be taken down by one hit. It is also far more dynamic than combat in Skyward Sword which felt a little too puzzle-esque since the sword was controlled by the Wiimote instead of a series of button combinations. Despite that, I would have wished for more mass-fights as it rarely occurs that you are facing more than five to six enemies. On the other hand, the game's main bosses seemed a bit too easy for me and I've had more trouble dealing with the mini-bosses at times although even they did not do a lot of damage. Being knocked around by an Iron Knuckle isn't "fun" when it deals a blow that results in only 1 heart of damage.

The main quest's plot is overall good, but the way the main quest is executed is not the best I've seen. During parts of the game, I felt like I was being unnecessarily sent throughout the world just for the sake of getting to the next dungeon and it seemed to me that the makers just wanted to stretch the main quest. The dungeons were well-designed, but their structure is not vastly different from that in Skyward Sword – you still are given one single correct way to get through the dungeons. That being said, this is something the Zelda series has – more or less – always been doing, but it never was as clear as in the last two installments.

The game had much to offer aside from the main quest, but these tasks were not exactly thought out well. Yes, you get a lot of stuff to do, but many give off a vibe of being built in just for the sake of being there. Especially the two major side tasks, the bug catching and the collecting of poe souls. Both take a lot of time, the poe soul quest more than the bugs and the rewards do not live up to the time you need to pour into it. Because they're rupees. Yes. Fucking rupees which you have an abundance of throughout the entire game – I had to ditch a lot of treasure chests because I didn't have the space for all those rupees which I never needed because items like bombs were literally everywhere and since the enemies were quite "weak" (as in "not doing a lot of damage"). At least a piece of heart should've been in it for me.

Speaking of more positive things: The soundtrack is well-made and it is far better than Skyward Sword's, even though it isn't orchestrated. The graphics are really great and it has very beautiful lighting, even though the textures could probably have been a little better (which I won't count as it is a rather old game).

All in all, it is a good game, but it's lacking on the content side. A little less would've been better. Twilight Princess managed to positively suprise me in some ways, but disappointed me in others. Even after six years.

If you don't might me asking, what kind of Electric Guitar are you thinking of getting?

Tbh, that is something I'm still unsure about. I haven't been looking at any specific make and model, though I have already excluded an instrument that is mainly manufactured for metal purposes. But I'm not there yet and I'll take my time narrowing it down until then. My saving priority right now is my camera.

You can control them! Check the last option under "tactics".

And he better should, because Persona 3 & 4 have one messed up AI which can get you killed even in the early stages of the game.

First of all, thanks to James, whose hilarious comments on Crazy Hunter made me forget about a really bad nightmare.  ;D  Though I have to say, I must check that game out if it isn't too expensive (and it comes to the European eShop), I got a soft spot for games that appear to be made by someone on LSD and Crack at the same time.

And also kudos to Guillaume for saying that Persona 4 is superior to Persona 3, though I need to note to anyone who might be interested in Persona 3 Portable for PSP is that the game is very different from the original P3 or P3 FES. Though I've played it anyway – despite having cleared both the original P3 and FES – just for the Girl Side. Yes, I bought that game for the sake of playing with the female character, which happens to be quite interesting in the Date Sim part if you know about the events in the male character's story.

And I need to get La Mulana, my Wii needs to be fired up again.

Concerning the first letter, I'd like to say that changes are somewhat necessary in long-running series, even if it means experimenting and pissing off fan(boy)s. That being said, Metroid: Other M wasn't exactly bad or aggravating in my opinion because of its plot (though it was somewhat... "Bay-esque") but because the controls were poorly executed. Retro did a better job with that, though some say that they turned Metroid into a FPS game. But other than the perspective Prime had a lot of the elements that make Metroid... well, Metroid. All in all, I think the score system for games needs to be abolished since I consider it to be abused too much.

I'll be frank here: I think America will be far better of concerning available titles. Yes, I know, you didn't get all of the Rainfall games, but Europe is even more treated like the unwanted step-child of the industry.

I guess he just got lucky. Or he has spent more on her than his figures.

I don't see any problems with the 3DS's fall line-up (except the fact that I'm pretty pissed about not getting Code of Princess, so people with an european 3DS like me will be at the mercy of niche publishers...), mainly because I don't think that people will buy (and play) all these must-haves in such a short timespan.
