Nintendo Gaming / Will Zelda: Wind Waker break sales records?
« on: March 02, 2003, 05:30:32 PM »
The latest number seems to be 300,000 preorders. 300,000 is a great number, but it seems low because they had 250,000 before the Bonus disk deal started. That means after heavy promotion, they only got an additional 50,000.

Maybe 300,000 refers to the number of Bonus disk they produced and the actual pre-orders number is higher.

KidTendo put up an interview with the producer.

The game has more stages and environments. The game is an arcade shooter so it doesn't have a deep storyline.

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo's Strategy is Paying Off
« on: March 01, 2003, 07:56:39 AM »
How could you say that the industry is booming?

Two great RPG makes, Square and Enix, have to come together to compete.
Microsoft reporting loss on XBox.
Nintendo and Microsoft lowering forcasts.
Sega making great games, but are in endless rumors of being bought.

PlanetGameCube has all the results.

The only problems that I have with this year was Splinter Cell won, but wasn't nominated for Overall Game of the Year and Metroid Prime was nominated 10 times and came away with only 1 award. They should not nominate any game for Overall just use the Console and Computer Game of the Year list. I think Splinter Cell had a chance to win Overall GOTY. Maybe next year. I think that Metroid should have won a couple more.

Overall, AIAS has done a good job. They recognize great games like Animal Crossing and Sly Cooper.

According to Nintendo, 70-80% of all GameCube games released during the rest of this year will offer some sort of GBA connectivity. This isn't just first- and second-party games; it goes for third-party games as well.

Wow. That is a lot of games that will support GCN-GBA connections. I expect most of Ubi Soft and EA games will use the link cable. It seems that all Nintendo games will use the link cable is some form.

Treasure is making Wario World. I think that Miyamoto has a different meaning for second party. I think that he meant working close with Treasure. Sin & Punishment was developed by Nintendo R&D1 & Treasure.

Zelda: Majora's Mask wasn't as good as OOT. The Game of the Year 2000 should have went to one of the Dreamcast games.

It is not as bad as 2000 when SSX won game of the year. Splinter Cell is a great game. I think that they shouldn't nominate Overall and just take the nominations from PC Game of the Year and Console Game of the Year.

I don't get how a game can get a record 10 nominations and only win one award.

The good thing about this year is that Animal Crossing got the recognization it deserves.

TalkBack / Metal Gear Solid on GameCube - CONFIRMED
« on: February 28, 2003, 07:45:14 AM »
"Is this exclusive? Gaming-Age reported yesterday that MGS was being remade for all three consoles."

I think that Gaming-Age said it was multiplatform. GBA + GameCube = multiplatform.

Let me get this straight. Metroid Prime only got 1 out of 10 awards. I'm happy for Animal Crossing and Eternal Darkness, but I'm really disappointed Prime didn't have more.

For example, Nintendo is heavily pursuing the connectivity between GBA and GC, and this year we are going to introduce the GB Player which lets you play GBA games on a TV via GameCube. And also, we have e-Reader in the US, so you can get data from a piece of paper. This is the unique system Nintendo is constantly trying to create and I'm positive more and more third-parties are becoming interested in these unique opportunities.

Nintendo is offering this more positively than ever. I can't really give specific examples right now, but we are working with EA on this, and developing closer ties with Namco and Sega to create these opportunities.

Nintendo Gaming / Metal Gear Solid for GameCube
« on: February 27, 2003, 03:56:57 PM »
It seems that the game is coming out. If you still want to discuss if the game is coming  out or not, you should go to the MGS thread in the talkback.. I'm changing the topic to Metal Gear Solid Discussion.

So far I only heard about a GCN-GBA link and Konami hiring the original actors for additional voices.

if they didn't mention it, then it is not in the game. I think that only the XBox will have downloadable rosters. The PS2 and XBox version will both have online play.

Between March 200-2001, they made more money of their handhelds than they're dying console. And look at those figures a year later! Profits from consoles is almost halved and handhelds went UP- the fiscal year of March 2001-2002, nearly THREEE FOURTHS of their profits came from handhelds, and that year includes the release of both a new home console and a new handheld. Denying that just shows you're IGNORING the facts. I'm not saying Nintendo's going to die, just that they should get their act together. Handhelds are much more profitable for them and using the argument that Nintendo makes more money than it's competitors is just wrong. In terms of consoles, I'm sure Sony's profits dwarf Nintendo's.

If you read my comments, I said that Nintendo would probable show a higher profit in 2003 for consoles than handhelds. The fact that the n64 was at the end of its life and it was keeping up with the gameboy shows that Nintendo makes a lot of money on consoles. In 2002 report, the GameCube just came out and library of games was small so the profit from games would be much less than handhelds. Nintendo just release Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, and Zelda for this fiscal year. Nintendo's next financial report should show a huge increase in console software.

there is split screen. There is a horizontal split in one of the shots. I'm just saying that it also supports LAN because of that one shot.
