neogaf seems to have found something...

Time to clear up what i said here, here and in some other messages a few months ago, as i've already revealed it on IRC.

One of the Wii U core wasn't used throughout the development of several launch window games. It's an "engine related issue", meaning it's the way the teams behind those titles have programmed their engine for the Wii U CPU. It wasn't widespread, not universally seen on all the games, but witnessed on at least a few of those. The developers found and resolved this problem mere months/weeks prior release, and most of them gained a nice increase in FPS. It's one the origin of the huge boost in framerate i reported a long time ago that some studios managed to get (from 30 fps to 60 fps for some games), along with new dev kits, etc.

You heard it right, a whole core of the Wii U CPU wasn't put in use for most of the dev cycle of several titles, before it was fixed.

It's rather telling either: - on the crucial need of studios, accustomed to the HD-Twins framework, to adapt their code to the Wiii U specifics - or the perfectible state of documentation/dev kit/SDK's at the time - or [insert your own conclusion/guess derived from this info]
Interesting. That would actually explain a LOT.

This actually makes me even more impressed with the Wii U hardware given that they able to get performance equal to the last gen consoles with only 2 cores of the CPU. I feel that this needs to be covered by major game journalists. This would clear a lot of misconceptions from the launch period.

I wish Spyke was here to jump all over this post.

Yeah, I said that.
this is his last day... i think

We're basically resurrecting the old Forum Hot Topic feature, but I decided to be less formal about it. If you people came up with more compelling topics yourselves I could use them instead of making them all myself.
well i would like to think i have one or two decent discussions here so...

shingi, you must have excellent sources on the power of the PS4/720, last i checked all we knew was that the PS4 had 8 cores running on a CPU designed for tablets...

honestly i think the gap is small enough that nintendo can find ways to work around it,
at worst we will see something like this

TalkBack / Re: Summer-Focused Wii U Nintendo Direct Airing Tomorrow
« on: May 17, 2013, 08:09:40 AM »
As for this Direct, I'm not expecting much. Nintendo's going to save their big Wii U announcements for their actual E3 Nintendo Direct, and they already blew their load on the 3DS. All I'm expecting tomorrow is a bunch of talk about minor Wii U games I don't care about, more MegaTen 4 coverage, and if I'm lucky maybe they'll announce a date for Earthbound.  There's really no reason to expect more than that, and as I'm going to be working during the Direct (and in mostly a media blackout till early evening) I don't see a point to getting hyped for it.
probably something like Wonderful 101 that has already been announced along with some new indie games, a pikmin announcement...

Perhaps a bigger focus on multimedia to compete with the ipod (maybe partner with amazon for a music store)
What about a RAM increase, let you play music while gaming, streetpass while playing DS games...
Even with the wireless on my XL lasts a good while in sleep mode. I think close to three days. I pretty much keep it in sleep mode constantly in hopes of someone in the park or motel next-door triggering the StreetPass.
i know the XL uses more power for the screens (however the battery size has long since compensated for that) so it makes since that it would handle streetpass well...

Nintendo Gaming / The Wii U and next Gen: What can Nintendo do?
« on: May 17, 2013, 07:57:11 AM »
The general consensus seems to be that the Wii U is underpowered. whether this claim holds 100% true or not is still uncertain but it will hurt the Wii U's image nonetheless. How can Nintendo handle this situation. What do you think?

I blame Nintendo. If a third party doesn't want to produce games for a Nintendo system, then I can only blame Nintendo.
Is it that simple?
Quote
Obviously either Nintendo wasn't making the process easy enough, or it wasn't being reasonable enough. People like to blame EA right away, but I'd look straight at Nintendo.
Tell me more about how EA supported nintendo in the N64 days and nobody else would... i would hope they have gotten better since then.

Quote
If Nintendo waived a fee for EA, up to a million copies sold, or whatever will allow EA to break even, then I feel like EA wouldn't take this route.
so you say nintendo should bribe EA into supporting their platforms?

part of the issue is that EA as a company is hurting(along with the entire industry,) they have been shutting down studios, pulling out of the facebook scene, they have a second consecutive golden poo reward, constant PR nightmares...

and EA isn't alone, this year alone THQ and (the second incarnation of) Atari have both gone under, Sega is likely to follow suit as well, and Square has held unreasonable expectations to its western neighbors,

EA is basically shutting out anything that doesn't ensure profitability

this last generation put the industry as we know it in a bit of a hole, this next one will either dig them up, or bury them for good.

actually i'm pretty interested in the S4 nexus, full google update support, an sd card, significant accesory support... i like this alot

6967
and ironically that's what i'm doing... what im saying is complaining about how im a terrible poster doesn't do much if you wont help fix it when given the opportunity

6968
The difference is, ShyGuy is actually a pretty cool person.
*sigh* if you have any problems with the way i post you should PM me SPECIFIC complaints on how I can improve
as opposed to being a whiny bitch and saying i suck as many of you have done

On that note if you made some post in that matter i must ask you to resend it via PM, its just a better means of one on one communication...

And if you aren't going to go through this perfectly reasonable request...Then don't constantly whine about it in every post i make...

I am not trying to come off as a class clown in the funhouse, but apparently that's how I come across...

i doubt much will get revealed,

6972
the Wii U already has more good games then the 3ds did when it got its price drop...

6973
aww... shyguy didn't respond, he is a hypocrite either way but i wanted to call him out :D
i have finals in the next two weeks so... super metroid would be a bad idea...

EDIT: Shyguy you are officially a hypocrite
Says don't post in the funhouse play metroid

creates 8 new topics

6974
which makes a price cut all the more necessary... if nintendo can undercut the 720/durango by a significant margin then they have a chance... but they need to create an easy, cheap and established method of porting from those systems among other things...

that is honestly the stupidest thing i've ever heard, part of me is disgusted that NOE would ruin the atmosphere of that game in that way and part of me wants to give them a high five for trolling people who played that game
