Nintendo Gaming / Re: Nintendo Stealing "Their" Games!
« on: May 21, 2013, 06:10:16 PM »
I can't see Wii u getting much support. Both the PS4 and next Xbox will be roughly the same in terms of architect, meaning in order to build for the Wii u companies will need a seperate team. This is the risk of releasing a console without looking at the market and launching so earlier.
i doubt its as bad as the ps3 was though

Nintendo Gaming / Re: The Wii U and next Gen: What can Nintendo do?
« on: May 21, 2013, 05:54:55 PM »
The NES was effectively the Big Bang for Japanese videogame development.  Prior to that the Japanese videogame market was pretty much just arcades.  There was no Atari 2600 or Intellivision or Colecovision in Japan.  So all the best Japanese devs were young, hungry and creative back then.  I can see why one would want another crash to clear out the old dinosaurs.  But here's the problem: Nintendo is one of the dinosaurs.  They're trying to sell the Wii U on a cookie-cutter 2D Mario game and mini-game compilation.  While they're making better stuff than contemporaries like Sega and Square Enix, they're not really cutting it.  The Japanese gaming industry has just gone so far down the shitter that Nintendo is the best by merely being okay.  If there is a crash Nintendo is going down too.

Nintendo's creative output is so generic these days that they're either old men afraid to do anything but the safe bet or they're creatively bankrupt and are relying on shallow controller gimmicks to provide the illusion of a new experience.  Nintendo is not young, hungry and creative like the indies.  They are old corporate giants and if they survived a crash it would be entirely because of their good financial planning but they wouldn't be leading some new gaming revolution.  Don't confuse what Nintendo was (and realistically what Sega, Square, Capcom, Konami, etc. were) for what they currently are.  They are not the flagbearers of creativity and innovation in game design.  They're a conservative company that makes safe product for the mass market.
And what makes Microsoft and Sony any different

Turning Sonic into a Nintendo exclusive franchise is a serious slap in the face. With Sonic (2006) we got a glimpse of a hopeful future for our beloved childhood friend in a gaming world full of rich textures and high polygon models, and with Sonic Generations, SEGA made a statement to the entire gaming world that no fan who grew up supporting their company and even starting schoolyard fights over their beloved blue versus that fat red plumber. When I have my kids hopefully over the next 10 years, their first games will be whatever modern port of the classic genesis games were so they learn the majesty of what SEGA was, and how simple it is to make someone happy by acknowledging simple genius mechanics, like the addition of the spin dash or the effect shields. As for the arguments that Sonic belonged on Nintendo for their port of Sonic Adventure, I proudly point out the availability of these games on Xbox LIVE made my 360 purchase well worth the cost of the console just to play those nostalgic titles from my  youth. Although not historically recognized by the wide gaming community as a good game, Sonic (2006) was a beautiful gift from the SEGA Corp. showing the resilience and spirit all of us who were faithful to our favorite hero, and with critics aside, presented a rich world of beautiful texture and depth no Sonic game a the time had the technical ability to produce. And with Sonic Generations, fans of all ages, newcomers discovering our lightspeed hero for the first time and veterans of the ever escalating war with egghead were given a hearty reminder of why we fell in love with this cocky cobalt Erinaceinae, many of us from his start in '91 and shown SEGA hadn't forgotten us by making it available to the entire world through whatever console we prefer to have. Nintendo has a proven track record of being behind the power curve and catering only to the younger audience, being a child's company and for the most part ignoring a major portion of gaming revenue from the original soldiers of NES vs Genesis wars. Playstation and Xbox owners love their consoles, as do PC gamers love their rigs, and all of them view the WiiU as inferior. it's market caters to the young and naïve, whereas the other three major settings continue pushing their hard and software to the graphical limits, mass marketing to all age groups with everything from Call of Duty and Assassins Creed for the mature audiences to The Avengers and Sonic... oh wait, I forgot about how SEGA is making plans to deny 3/4 of the market from continuing the adventures of our hyper active insectivore. I'm not buying a WiiU just to pay another $180 for my childhood hero. Instead, I humbly request you not allow the bastard plumber to triumph over his only real competitor through eternity and continue with the same spirit of loyalty to your fans and supporters that was showcased in Sonic Generations. Encompass that magic to continue producing worthwhile tales of adventure with essence of speed and allow the world to hear your battlecry: SEGA does what Nintendon't.

Though no longer producing hardware, the bastard plumber must never dethrone our champion!

I think this is a bad idea from a PR perspective but I think it's baffling that people are so worked up about making sure these people have the right to profit off of other people's copyrighted work.
Lets Players however do deserve some cut for their part in the way that work is presented in videos imo.

TalkBack / Re: E3 Demos Playable at Best Buy
« on: May 17, 2013, 08:39:36 PM »
I think they'll end up doing both, release demos during the week of E3 at Best Buy and on the eShop. There really is no incentive for them NOT to do both, especially given the fact that it they are already offering show floor games to be played outside E3 by the public. Posting the games to the eShop should be the more simpler and logical next step.

Looking forward to E3
perhaps bestbuy would get the demos early but still...

TalkBack / Re: Summer-Focused Wii U Nintendo Direct Airing Tomorrow
« on: May 17, 2013, 05:39:38 PM »
So I got my time zone mixed up and thought this was at 10am PST but the front news on NWR was such minor stuff I didn't pick up on the fact that the Direct had already happened.  That's when you know it was lame.

We did get a new game announced but it's Sonic and this isn't the 90's so I don't give a ****.  Even with Nintendo's involvement I pretty much assume that any Sonic game will be a sucky waste of time.  I didn't even make the association of tying it with the Direct because I'm just used to ignoring Sonic games and figured that as long as Sega continued to churn that **** out it would end up on Nintendo consoles.

"Sonic?  Yeah, whatever.  Where's the news from the Direct? ...oh, that was it.  Huh."
