Nintendo Gaming / RE:continued from Gamecube Disc. Microsoft & Nintendo
« on: December 25, 2003, 10:44:24 AM »
Nintendo has billions in the bank, not compnay worth, but billions of real dollars. They dont need microsoft for money.  The only reason nintendo hasnt done online yet, is because its not profitable.  I dont know about you guys, but I would much rather play Mario Kart with 3 friends, than over the net with 3 strangers.  Not saying I dont like online games, but I dont feel that games need to be online to be fun.  When you think about it, whats the differance between playing someone online and playing against a computer?  Not much, nothing other than you can chat inbetween games and you know you actually playing another person.  Microsoft isnt gonna be around two genrations from now, investors will only put up with losses for so long.

Nintendo Gaming / Star Fox Adventures
« on: December 22, 2003, 04:00:54 PM »
I had some christmas money to spend today, so I went out and bought Dragonball Z Budokai and Star Fox Adventures.  I have to admit, I am very impressed with Star Fox so far.  I forgot just how good Rare was at making eye candy visuals.  I am not very far yet, but the gameplay seems solid to.  I guess Rare still had a little magic left.  In the hub world, the framerate seems to stutter a bit, but doesnt interupt gameplay.  Fox's fur is very cool, and the grass looks nice to.  Overall, its a very good players choice title, and at $20, I think I made a good decision pick this one up.

TalkBack / RE:1080° Avalanche Review
« on: December 16, 2003, 02:24:41 PM »
Nice review.  I am even more excited about getting this game.  I was almost gonna pass up on 1080 because of IGN's review, but after talking with people in the forum and reading this review; my excitement for the game is higher than ever.  Unfortuantely, I asked for it as a christmas present, so I have to wait and see if its under the tree on christmas.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Warppipe

You misunderstood what i mean.  The more users on WP, the more people you will be able to make a good connection with.  I live in Ohio, if there are hundreds of people in my area that use WP, then I would have alot of people who I could potentially play a good game with.  Right now there are only a handful of people close to me using WP, hopefully that will change.

Many people are getting good games, with the main factor being ping.  In the end, its still tunneling, which has more limitations than online networks.  The more people that are connected, the better it will be.  Besides, we are using the beta version, 1.0 should serve up some significant improvements.

Nintendo Gaming / Warppipe
« on: December 14, 2003, 02:17:38 PM »
To anyone who has Mario Kart DD, you need to get warppipe.  I have played a few games now, some which played fairly well.  But the best way to get better games, is to have more users.  Granted, the beta version is still rather primative, but 1.0 is going to be released soon.  Many people are claiming close to full speed games.  If you havent already, go and check out warppipes website.  With more and more LAN games coming out, this program is going to help fullfill our desire for online games.

I hope this game has LAN play, I have been playing Mario Kart using warppipe, and its pretty cool.  The game looks promising, actually brings some new ideas to the stale FPS market.  Hopefully, this will be our Goldeneye of this genration.

Yes, I turned it off.  Are you a warppipe user KDR_11k?  If so, do you have a AOL IM?

Nintendo Gaming / Anyone Here Using Warppipe? Need Help!
« on: December 13, 2003, 07:01:22 AM »
Here is what I have: Gamecube Broadband adapter, Netgear 4 port hub, NYKO internet extender (wireless to get my DSL signal to my PC in the basement), and a PC using Windows XP.  I have downloaded Warppipe, and have tried connecting with other users, but has not worked yet.  It usually brings up a no response.  Whats the deal?  If there is anyone who has the time sometime later today to get on and try and help me get going, I would really appreciate it.

I would take it apart myself, and see if there was anything I could do.  Otherwise, any computer reapair shop should be able to repair it.  Good luck!

Yea, it looks interesting.  In terms of visuals, its very sharp.  Its a welcome addition to the Cube.  Not many RPG's on Cube, so I guess we are lucky to be getting one of this calibur.

Anyone else looking forward to playing this one online?  I am getting 1080 for christmas, so just a few weeks to go.  I have just about everything I need to get online with warppipe, and hopefully I will be playing Mario Kart online by the end of the week.  But 1080 could be really sweet online, racing against others was my favorite part of 1080 on the N64, so hopefully warppipe gets 1080 running within the next few weeks.

General Gaming / System Performance?
« on: December 09, 2003, 04:20:05 PM »
Can a system's performance dwindle over time?  I seem to be having more and more framerate drops in games that other people have none.  Could there be something wrong with my hardware?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:GCN out of the Race?
« on: December 07, 2003, 11:41:45 AM »
Yea, most of these journalist are morons.  Cube has been outselling X-box for months now, and has even out sold PS2 last week.  Nintendo istn going to sell more Cubes than PS2's this generation, but X-box is the one in trouble.  GameCube is selling fairly well in Japan, way better than X-box.  Before recently, it was neck and neck between Cube and X-box in the US and Europe, but now Cube sales have pulled away in terms of sales.  Not  only that, but Microsoft hasnt made any money from the X-box, and their losses are incredible.  I dont see Sony loseing its spot at the top anytime soon, but nintendo is going to sit comfortably in second.  Investors will only put up with losses for so long, if X-box never comes out of the hole this genration, the odds of releasing a successor will dwindle.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:How come Nintendo dosen't talk about Warpipe?
« on: December 04, 2003, 01:24:48 PM »
Yea, warppipe has actually done nintendo a favor.  Nintendo doesnt have to worry about setting up a network, but games supporting LAN can now be played online.  As previously stated, nintendo isnt gonna say anything about warppipe, it doesnt affect them in the least.  Although I could see it come up in an interview.  Its quite possible that nintendo saw this coming.  If warppipe does get really big, game developers will take notice, and you may see more and more games support LAN.  I hope to be up and running with warppipe by the end of the month.

A constant 30fps is better than 60 to 30 back to 60fps.  Wave Race runs great at 30fps, but it never drops either.  NST probably should have been working for a locked 30fps rather than 60; due to time contraints.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:DBZ Budokai 2?
« on: December 03, 2003, 01:24:17 PM »
If you dont like DBZ Budokai, you probably wont like the sequel.  From what I have read in reviews, its a very shallow fighter, but is a gem to any DBZ fanatic.  I am going to pick up Budokai next month.  I really like DBZ, so even if it is a shallow fighter, I still get to fight as Goku and Vegeta.  Plus, its only $30.  Other developers should take note, if your going to release a game on Gamecube that you released on PS2 months ago, do so at a lower price.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Why was RARE sold to microsoft?
« on: December 03, 2003, 01:18:05 PM »
I was also very impressed with Retro Studio's, their first game being Metroid Prime, and it lives up to the hype.  Silikon Knights may not have gotten the props it deserves for Eternal Darkness, but there time will come.  Probably when they release Metal Gear Solid.  That game looks like its really shaping up to be a sweet game.  Conker was a cool game, but it wasnt anything new.  If it had been released early on in the N64's lifespan, I think it would have had a much bigger impact.  Rare was really good at making gorgeous games, but havent made a really awsome game in years.

I need help finding the cheapest way for me to get up and going.  I have DSL, but PC with access is on the second floor.  My Gamecube is in the basement.  I have another PC in the basement, so I think I can get a wireless internet router, and then use a hub to branch out to my Gamecube and PC.  Any ideas on a cheap wireless router than doesnt suck?  The one Best Buy had was about $150.

Hows the framerate?  I havent been able to get a real answer yet.  IGN says its unpredictable.  Hows it run?

Nintendo got alot of cash for a development house that had been on a downward spiral for quite a while.  I cant say I am glad that they are gone, but I am not devistated either.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Zelda Bonus Disk Question
« on: December 02, 2003, 02:25:02 PM »
Well on the N64, MM was designed to run at 24fps, but when alot was going on, the framerate would bottom out as low as 5fps.  What I was asking, is if the framerate is now locked at 24fps?  And the audio thing happened with the preorder bonus disk also, but it happens rarely, so its not a big deal.  High-res goes a long way in OoT, so hopefully its the same for MM.  I cant wait for my copy, I never owned the Zelda's on the NES either, so that will be nice.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Still a good time to get a GameCube?
« on: December 02, 2003, 02:16:56 PM »
I would also like to encourge anyone who hasnt bought Eternal Darkness to do so.  Its the biggest sleeper on Gamecube, and you can pick it up for about $20 brand new.  Viewtiful Joe is awsome as well, definately worth a purchase.
