I would just hope that Majora's Mask would be a REMAKE, not a port. I've played Ocarina of Time on so many damn consoles I don't ever want to do it again- and it's a REALLY good game.

Basically, although Naughty Dog knowing the hardware better is a significant part of it. It's the same reason Nintendo's Wii games look way better than most third party games on the system: their teams know the hardware better and build their games around it.
This is very true. Nintendo's ability to stun and innovate graphically with the dated Wii hardware was awesome. Galaxy 1 and 2, and Skyward Sword were great examples of this. Also, quite a few third party games achieved this as well. Which is why, in retrospect, the Wii wasn't that bad.

But with all the support Ubisoft is giving Wii U, it's probable that they're going to get to know how to use the hardware very well. Which is awesome.

I've been checking this topic every four minutes or so, just to see what else you've updated in your post, Cater. God, I'm enjoying pre-launch so much, all these news stories are getting me more and more hyped.

We can only hope that the Wii U is actually the "Super Wii".

3256
^What is this I don't even...

Anyway, I think a heavy part of pulling the sales off is going to be advertising. So we should also wait until some marketing has appeared on TV and the internet before even getting into this subject.

3257
I just doubt that people aren't going to see this as a new console experience. It clearly is. The price point will only reinforce that. If people think they're going to pay 300-upwards for a new peripheral, they're idiots.

The Wii U is a next generation console. It is the FIRST next-generation console. If people haven't realized the trend that's been going on since, I don't know, the eighties, they'll see that Nintendo's offering a new experience, just like they do every five or so years.. The peripheral is a huge draw, IMO. The draw of having Dual screens, with a touchscreen, was a huge draw in terms of the DS because it brought an inexpensive touchscreen into the home environment. The Wii U is offering a tablet, that can stream and interact with the TV, that's going to be a draw for people who don't want to pay for that more expensive tablet- for casuals and a younger audience, it introduces their kids to the tablet concept, which is where everybody seems to want things to go nowadays. The Wii popularized motion control and it doesn't seem like Nintendo will be abandoning that anytime soon- they're just introducing a new concept to people. And personally, I think people are going to bite. It's a social device/tablet peripheral. I think that's a very smart incentive to present customers. Certainly, it's a better draw than the next PS-something or xBox-something promising the ability to- what, play prettier games and play DVDs/blu-ray discs? People at least acknowledge that Nintendo is attempting to introduce them to something new, interesting, and engaging. I think a lot of you guys, and gamers in general, underestimate that because they're so entrenched in the idea of these consoles providing GAMING and nothing else. The Wii U appears to be an entertainment system, and its controller, online play and digital distribution, and social possibility are much more appealing than anything else people are selling right now, especially from a casual standpoint. And yeah, Nintendo actually knows how to play that casual market, and I think this one is going to pay off for them- not as much as the Wii craze, but I think its sales will be very stable.

...I don't mean to sound preachy with what I think, so I apologize if I come off that way.

3258
Oh, I'd go with a "Casual" pack that comes with the system, one Tablet Controller and Nintendo Land.

Then, I'd go with "Core" pack that comes with the system, a pro controller, a built-in 120 GB hard drive and NSMBU.  No tablet controller, because core gamers don't care about it.

Finally, I'd have a "Hard Core" pack that comes with the system, two pro controllers, a 2 TB hard drive, a PS3 and a 360.
I would think that every Wii U console would be packed with a tablet controller, IMO...

Soooo... what you're saying is, Nintendo's lack of support by Konami, Square, and Capcom is partly why you don't buy a lot of stuff for Nintendo consoles (more specifically, the Wii), because they pushed away their support by having an underpowered console and the other usual reasons...

See, now that Nintendo has something that is in the same league with their competitors, that should be less of a problem... At least, I think so. The rumor is that we're not going to be seeing any graphics revolutions for a while.

3260
Configurations like what...? Just curious.

3261
I expect the tablet to be a main focus on the box of the Wii U. Even so, I marvel at the expectations of human intelligence, though I know something like this will happen. But maybe people buying Wii U games by mistake and their kids complaining they need a new console to play it will be an incentive for them to purchase the new console. But, if the Wii U is a core gamer device then the core gamers will know, and the casual fans will have to actually pay attention, for once.

It saddens me to think that people are that stupid.

As much as you hate the casual buyers you sure are concerned with how they are going to find a Wii U. Not everyone is a mindless drone, there may be some confusion at some point like the 3DS, but that was over quick.

In this age of super duper high tech gadgets, is there anything wrong with the new versions of the Iphone or Ipad looking darn near exactly the same? Was there every any out cry about people not being able to by a proper PS3 controller because it looked so similar to the PS1 and PS2 controller?

Sure Ipad, and Iphone add a number to the new iterations, but does 360 really indicate a sequal like 1 and 2 do? Again WiiU is another odd sounding set of words that just may spark interest again and you know maybe people might actually look it up and become a little more informed?

I'm as tech savy as tree, but when someone asks me do I have the Droid EX or the Droid SP(made up names), I instantly know there is a difference. Just look at everyone buried into their ipads and smart phones now a'days. I think the average joe mom knows more than you give her credit for, or at least the ability to be better informed is easier than ever now. Of course there will always be dumb nuts but what can you do? Eventually they will figure it out.

Let's not forget kids as well, more informed than we could have possibly imagined since we were kids. They will make sure mom and dad know It's Wii U not just Wii.

 You are stressing about nothing.

Wow, this. +1 to you, sir. It's the same thing with iPhones, iPads, and even the 3DS. If people don't pay attention to things like numerical changes or the like than they're... well, they're idiots. And it just shows that Nintendo's attempting to establish a form of hardware that has a recognizable name, and recognizable updates. The change from one syllable to two is actually pretty striking, from a base identification aspect... IMO.

Subjective, I suppose.

Let's not talk about what could have been, but what is. To me, the Wii U software represented more than just casuals and core gamers. Games like Rayman Origins, Lego City: Undercover, and even Nintendoland are attempts to cater to all audiences- Lego's open world, acrobatic and GTA-styled gameplay is a deeper attempt at gameplay. Rayman Origins is kiddy in appearance, but its mechanics and platforming cater to a more "core" audience. And Nintendoland is minigames featuring the "core" Nintendo titles. I think it's a smart introduction into the console race, and it's showing that the Wii U is, essentially, a grown-up Wii, with more mature games and a recognition of what made the Wii successful (motion controls, simplicity) while also tossing in more mature overtones, a social network, etc.

Yeah, although this year's E3 was lackluster, I don't think it's a sign of ultimate failing in Nintendo's current strategy. I mean, they could just be hyping up games that are within a close release range. They teased Paper Mario and Luigi's Mansion last year, and that could have been kind of a bite in the ass for them, considering they aren't coming out until now. As for Nintendoland, I think it's a smart way to get casual gamers familiar with the Nintendo franchises that will undoubtedly be seeing releases in to coming year or so- and I think that's its draw.

I think everyone's still riding on post-E3 blues, personally, and Nintendo WILL have to pick up the slack in the coming months. If it doesn't, then we have more reason to hate on it. But the Wii U is still a console with a great deal of potential, especially in a social aspect.

Apparently there's going to be another conference later this summer to confirm more games. I'm guessing this was a 'thank you for getting behind from the get go' sorta week.Still...incredibly stupid.

Aha, got this from Gaf (dude is a dev for those who dont know)

Nintendo will have another big Wii U confernece before launch to detail a ton of stuff. I call it Summer Conference because I'm guessing late August / early September for it

Why do people on NeoGAF have to spoil everything? Don't they know what NDA's mean?
God, I hope this is true. That at least gives me hope that there will be more content in the months after launch. Give me a little variety, will you? Two platformers, a zombie shooter, and Pikmin are hardly the kind of quality I'm expecting from launch and beyond.

3265
Oh man! That 3DS conference!

Did nothing for me except show more Paper Mario, which is the only thing I'm looking forward to.

Yeah, okay. Prove it.

Can someone pull up the sales history of first party Nintendo titles?
That many Million+ sellers.  Is there another developer/publisher that cranks out the hits on the scale that Nintendo does?

Unless there's some grand conspiracy with some crazed anti-gaming religious cult buying all the games so no one can play them, those games are being sold to... people who like games.  In the millions.
Sorry, I thought this comment was associated with something said recently. I knwo Nintendo has MADE games that people who love games play. I don't see them MAKING any in the near future. Pikmin 3 and Mario U aside.

However, I won't deny that the Metroid demo shown last year that will undoubtedly be a part of Nintendoland did look fun. And Nintendoland does look fun, in general. But it's not what I was hoping to see.

Also, I agree about the previews for Far Cry and The Last of Us being extremely disturbing. I was kind of appalled to see the brutality of those franchises, and the cheers only made me wonder what has happened to old-fashioned, innocent gameplay.

Oh, right. Pikmin 3 LAWLS.

It really seems like they were holding alot back for E3. And I mean everyone. I'm sure that EA wants to show off that multi umote Madden, but haven't had time to get it up and running in a demo mode yet, and Nintendo likely wants to save their carpet bombing run followed by the megaton nuke for just before launch, but they could have shown us some more.
Maybe end the conference with a Smash Bros teaser since we already know about that game, but I really hope the sneak something into the 3DS conference later today (where we might see a SSB teaser too).

Oh, and there were only like 2 or 3 Nintendo girls walking around with 3DS' tethered to their waist, so maybe after the conference today, they will flood the both with 3DS games too... But more importantly, more. beautiful booth babes
It's almost as if you know something...

I just doubt there's going to be ANY carpet bombing at this point. Nintendo's already dropped the ball so hard, how can the really cover their asses? To me, the lack of HD Nintendo titles just shows they're havign a very difficult time with the transition and it's really hurting them. They needed a big push title and they don't have it. Pikmin 3 is exciting and awesome, and I will most definitely buy it- but it's not the launch title excellence that could have been either a revived franchise or a really impressive core gamer title.

Unless I'm totally wrong and they do release some juicy info in the coming months. But I doubt it. This was the day that the whole gaming community would have their eyes on the Wii U. And they delivered jack.

You want to know a secret......?

Yes.

This.

Any despite what you're all saying, Ubisoft has a pretty damn good lineup of games prepared for Wii U (ya know, three of the eight games...). If they just continued supporting the console I'm sure they'd find it very profitable, because Zombi U and Rayman Legends are really going to push that console's sales.

Can't say much about everyone else. No Square Enix support (sans DQX but we knew about that) and none of Nintendo's 2nd party devs are offering anything up... disappointing.

Yeah, I'm pretty psyched for this one too. Fast zombies are not necessary to have a solid zombie title. The creatures in this are lumbering, brain dead horrors, and that's creepy. In a good way.

OH lawdy lawdy, Nintendo's done a shitty job at this E3, and that's even considering how crappy this expo's been so far.

Miyamoto was there for one game. Reggie took too much time on stage. Iwata was absent. The conference was nothing but casual 1st-party games, 3rd-party ports, and Mario.

No hype, no bomb dropping, no megatons.

At least Iwata did a good job on his "Nintendo Direct" videos. I learned more watching those than I did watching the press conference.
...I agree? Why did you quote my response?

Nintendo Gaming / Re: E3 2012 Press Conferences - Day 2: Nintendo

Okay.

So pretty much all day I've been conflicted, going on-and-off about trying to get a Wii U at launch, swearing off of Nintendo games for good and crying and bitching and moaning. Now that I've calmed down a bit, I am ready to voice my opinions.

Nintendo. You don't start off strong and end weak. You start off weak and end strong. You missed the ball on what your fans wanted to see, which was a solid lineup of games. A demo of Scribblenauts, ZombiU, and/or P-100 could have been much better usage of time than the end of this conference. Dwindling off into SiNG, Wii Fit U, and that friggin' LUIGI'S MANSION hand-holding Nintendoland bullshit was not an example of good time management. Hell, you could have even brought Ubisoft onstage to show off Rayman Legends, if you wanted a better example of asymmetrical gaming. You barely touched on this in any of your demos, which frankly surprises me, because it's what you've been pushing for so damn long.

That being said, the conference was not without impressive content. Pikmin 3 of delivered, fortunately, and I enjoyed a look at it. LEGO Ctiy: Undercover was actually the best game there, showing wonderful potential in both the platforming elements, it's GTA concept, and the traditional LEGO humor. Scribblenauts could have used a better look, but sweet jebas, I'm excited for it. But showing ports of old games is not a good way to show the hardcore that you've got them back- it shows that you're making the same **** available on your console. ZombiU could have desperately used a demo because the demo shown AFTER the conference was actually AMAZING, and showed how the game is unique and how it utilizes the Wii U gamepad in a convincing manner. It's a hardcore game with an ingenious take on a somewhat stale genre.

Anyway, I'm not going to pretend I know what's better for Nintendo, but I think there was a bit of poor decision making in the crafting of this conference, and I don't think I would get a lot of backlash for saying it. However, something that has not been covered, and probably won't be, is the eShop- what games we'll be seeing on it and what caliber they'll be. Trine 2 is probably going to be on it, but I would like to see more- a rumored eShop game list came out not long ago and I would have liked to see some more information regarding the subject. It's kind of an important part of having an online console, I believe, and though the eShop for 3DS was never shown in full at any E3, it still would have been a nice gesture to attempt to sway me.

As for the launch, it's at least a bit more solid than the 3DS. I'm okay with it being slow and having only a few titles that really draw me in, because it will give me more time to appreciate them- but I really wish we could have seen some stuff that's coming out afterwards. I mean, the Wii U better not fizzle out post-holiday, or it's going to have an even harder time than the 3DS did. So SHOW ME that it won't, Nintendo.
