General Chat / You too can have "Hayloe 2" written on your shorts!
« on: August 30, 2004, 03:00:09 AM »
These of you who don't follow the AFL (I don't much), one of the St Kilda Saints' sponsors is Microsoft Xbox.  During the season, they had "Xbawx" written on their shorts.  Now it's been changed to "Hayloe 2" to fool every Aussie seeing it into buying the game.  Here's a picture gallery.  Don't view it on a full stomach as they've been known to produce effects ranging from nausea to projectile vomiting.

I'm personally waiting for MS to force the Saints to wear Master Chief suits on the field.

General Gaming / PlayStation 3 will use Blue-Ray discs
« on: August 04, 2004, 06:30:44 PM »
SUPER NEWS FLASH

Gamespot reports Sony have confirmed that the PlayStation 3 will use Blue-Ray discs as the game medium.

I'm not sure if this is good.  DVD technology hasn't been around for that long, and I don't think customers want another medium to replace their beloved DVDs too early.  And secondly, do games really need 25GB of data storage?  How many PS2/Xbox games take up a full DVD disc?

I shudder at the thought of a FF game starting off with an opening cutscene running for 2 hours.

General Gaming / MGS2: Substance PC version
« on: June 12, 2004, 03:55:17 AM »
After enjoying MGS: TTS, I'm seriously thinking of buying the PC version of MGS2: Substance (don't have a PS2 or xbox), mainly for the VR missions.  I've read the PC version was a lazy port and the control system is identical.

Which brings me to this point.  I have a PSone dual shock gamepad and a PS to PC USB controller adapter.  Will I have any control issues using my PSone gamepad as oppose to the PS2 gamepad the game was designed for?  Has anyone tried this?  Thanks.

General Chat / Satoru Iwata is coming to Down Under?
« on: June 01, 2004, 10:28:24 PM »
Someone help me........get me an oxygen mask!

At work today, during my break, I was reading the newspaper my co-worker bought along, and was looking thru the TV/electronics/gaming section and they had an article about Nintendo and what they presented at E3.  They, or some other Aussie media interviewed Satoru Iwata and was quoted saying (I don't remember the exact words, sorry) that he is sorry about the situation and poor sales of the GameCube in Australia.  He also said he has never been to Australia and plans to visit (didn't say when).

I shocked when I read that.  I never thought I see the day when Nintendo's president will visit Australia.  Sadly I didn't take the newspaper home with me, and I checked if the article was online, but it isn't.  I will keep checking the next few days.  The article mentioned other stuff; about portable gaming and next gen., the usual stuff you have already read on other sites.

If he is really coming Down Under, I suggest he brings Reggie along!

General Gaming / Silicon Knights developing a Xbox title?
« on: May 24, 2004, 12:59:17 AM »
Ummm yeah, The Magic Box reports that:

Quote

Silicon Knights is working on a new Xbox title, which will be officially announced in summer 2004.

I don't know if this is true, because as we know, The Magic Box is NOT always reliable.  I've checked the other main gaming sites, and none have reported this.

At this stage, I advice not to go crazy and/or get pissed off.  I'm gonna sit back, eat popcorn, and wait if this turns out to be turn.

General Chat / Anime Shopping Thread
« on: March 28, 2004, 02:11:17 AM »
Ummmm, yeah, I decided to start this thread b/c I've been looking for Aussie shops that sell anime art books and figures, and I found a very useful thread that should help all the Aussie anime fans (not counting you Mario! ) who may be looking to buy a particular anime product!

So check out the Anime Shopping and Aussie Rental Guide from the Madman forums.  It lists a good range of site, and warns of sites that sell bootlegs.  Hope you find it useful.

Also, if you want the best price for a DVD in Australia from the net I recommend you goto DVD Plaza.  It has all the DVD shops and tells which ones have the best price.

And also, Madman has recently started selling manga.  Up until now, it was hard to find, but now EB are selling them.

General Chat / I spotted Puyo Pop Fever!!!...
« on: March 19, 2004, 04:15:15 PM »
YES!

Go to DVDCrave where I saw the GC version of Puyo Pop Fever listed!

BUT.....

It's selling for $49.95, with the RRP being $59.95.  And guess what?  The PS2 and Xbox version RRP is $49.95.  Great, Atari decided to screw GC owners for the millionth time....(I know it's only $10 more, but why us GC owners?)

I bet it come down to something like this:

Atari staff #1: Hey, who's gonna buy the GC version of Puyo Pop Fever?
Atari staff #2: Yeah, no one I guess.  I mean, GC owners don't like Sega games.  Xbox owners do 'cos they are cool!
Atari staff #1: I suppose you are right, lets make the RRP price higher.
Atari staff #2: $10 more would be awesome to the max!

Seriously, I don't know how long I can put up with this.  MGS: TTS has been taken off the list of games for the Zelda bonus disc, and now this.  NAL is enough.  NAL & Atari is too much...

General Gaming / Game Arts - where are you?
« on: March 15, 2004, 09:32:31 PM »
Does any know what Game Arts are up to?  The last I heard of them was last year when Square-Enix bought some stock of Game Arts.  Then there was a rumor that they were both working on a game together.  But it has been awhile since then, and there have been no news or announcements from them.  Is the rumor true?

I'm asking because Game Arts are one of my favourite RPG developers, and I love the Grandia series.  I really hope they will make another Grandia game, so I can get addicted to the battle system again!

General Chat / Channel 10 are pissing me off!
« on: March 10, 2004, 04:06:19 PM »
What's with Channel 10 these days?  Why do they keep changing the time slots for The Simpsons, especially new episodes?  I rarely remember to watch these days, and yesterday (that's Wednesday), I nearly missed the new episode until my sister reminded me a minute before it started.  Over the last 2 years, I've missed countless new Simpsons episodes, whereas before then I only missed, like 3.   Stupid Channel 10, they think I'll remember the new time slot every so and then.

Same with Channel 7 and Futurama.  Argh.  I haven't remembered to set up my VCR since last year.

Oh, and I would like someone to turn "Monkey Trauma Center" into a animated series!

General Chat / PHP support
« on: February 25, 2004, 11:48:35 PM »
Does anyone know of any free sig hosting sites that support PHP scripting?

My website, which is hosted by my ISP, does not support it.    So, I really would appreciate it if someone knows of one!

General Gaming / Smilebit - what are they up too?
« on: June 07, 2003, 10:48:05 PM »
Since they released Panzer Dragoon Orta, does anyone know what they are up to?

Are they developing another game for Xbox, or for PS2 or GameCube this time?  I'm curious because they are a talented developer and really enjoyed Jet Set Radio.

General Gaming / Metal Gear Solid – PC demo
« on: June 03, 2003, 04:43:38 AM »
No kidding.  With a remake coming to Gamecube, it reminded me that I had a PC demo of MGS from the Christmas 2000 issue of PC Gamer magazine.  Which sadly, I never tried out.  I ignored the game back then because I wasn’t into console games at the time (a big mistake).  So I went thru my collection of 117 PC Gamer CD demo discs (I counted ‘em!) on the shelf behind me.  At last, I found it.

I’ve finished the demo twice and enjoyed it, although it was short.  I’m doing it again on hard.  Using the keyboard does feel somewhat awkward.  But what I like about the game is that it makes you feel that you are playing in an action movie, although some of the time I felt I was being interrupted by codec too often, instead of just letting me play.  The character models look weird, I mean, they seem to have no eyes.  And the voice acting is good.  I liked some of the conversation between Snake and the Asian chick (can’t remember her name).  Now I can’t wait for the GameCube remake, and I am thanking Nintendo and Konami for making this possible.

To the big MGS fans on this forum, I ask you to forgive me for not trying out the MGS PC demo long ago.  I beg of you!

General Chat / Anime - Japanese vs English
« on: May 25, 2003, 01:47:28 AM »
No, I am not trying to start a thread about Japanese vs English dub in animes, but rather, I need some help.

I want to buy some anime DVDs, but am unsure whether to get the English version, or import the original Japanese version.  I definitely want to buy Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke and Cowboy Bebop:  Knockin on Heaven's Door.  My question is, are there any scenes edited out in the English version of these films?  I've been trying to do a search on it, but haven't come across a web site which list the difference.  Because if they are, I would much rather buy import the original Japanese version.

Also, what I don't like about English dubbing is it changes the content of what is spoken.  I am really fussy about things like that in foreign movies.  What I am asking is, if I get the original Japanese version, will the English subtitles be more exact to what is spoken as apposed to the English version?  Does anyone know?  Because I don't mind subtitles, I actually prefer them.

As for Cowboy Bebop:  Knockin on Heaven's Door, I don't know about the English version.  Only the Japanese version was shown in Australia.

Man, I really need to get off my ass and apply for that Japanese course in the city.

Nintendo Gaming / Gotcha Force - another Capcome game?
« on: May 05, 2003, 02:56:49 AM »
Yep, that's right folks.  It seems that Capcom is giving us more GC love.

Thanks to The Magic Box, they listed Capcom's E3 lineup, and the only game I've hadn't heard of was Gotcha Force.  I wonder what type of game this is?

Do I have a short term memory span, or is this an unannounced game?

Nintendo Gaming / Puyo Pop - hard to find?
« on: April 21, 2003, 10:44:09 PM »
l've been looking for Puyo Pop for ages.  Months ago, I asked my local EB and they told me they have never heard of the game, and wasn't on their database.  I live in Australia, maybe the game never came here.  So, I ordered the game from DVDBoxOffice two months ago, and the order is still pending.  They told me the game is hard to get in stock and are still trying.

Has anyone else had trouble finding the game?  Or am I the only person on this planet interested in Puyo Pop, which would explain why it is hard to find?

General Gaming / Game Arts
« on: April 18, 2003, 10:15:09 PM »
Why haven't Game Arts released a game on a Nintendo home console system?  Only Sega and Sony systems.  Do they have beef with Nintendo?

Just been wondering since i really enjoyed Grandia II on the Dreamcast and would like GameCube support from them.

« on: March 29, 2003, 11:56:27 PM »
in the February PC Gamer magazine (see my signature below) had a link to a Lego fan site recreating the M.C. Escher "Ascending and Descending", "Balcony" and "Belvedere" designs with Lego bricks.  u really gotta see it to believe it (but of cause, they had to add some tricks to get it to look right)
