Nintendo Gaming / Prince of Persia for Wii, it's official...

Prince of Persia

I can confirm that a game based on the popular Prince of Persia franchise is one of many titles Ubisoft has in development for Nintendo's Wii,

And sounds like it's gonna be a brand new game not a port. WOO HOO!

Look at number 11

A memory card adaptor is designed to edit, up/download game saves to and from EMS flash card or smart media card.

But it also says that you upload it to a "virtual memory card" on the hard drive. So you would think that it stores it on there and you just get the information straight off the hard drive.

To use saved data on a PlayStation 2 memory card, you must copy the data onto a virtual memory card within the hard disk. This requires a PS2/PSone memory card adaptor to copy the data to your PLAYSTATION 3. A memory card adaptor is designed to edit, up/download game saves to and from EMS flash card or smart media card

Look like you'll still be able to play all the old games, but you will need the adapter to transfer the saved files over. Kinda sucks if you ask me.

Nintendo Gaming / DS to act as wii controller? new info

Certain developers have received a new accessory from Nintendo. This accessory for the Nintendo DS goes in the GBA cartridge...You may remember Wario Ware: Twisted from Intelligent Systems, a game that uses the same type of movement sensor. The sensor registers movements the same way the cartridge did in Wario Ware: Twisted but when I played with the new sensor I got the feeling that it’s slightly better. This DS gyro-sensor doesn’t contain a rumble pak. Nintendo says they tried to fit a rumble pak in the cartridge but it would have made the cartridge too big.

Quote

One of the first games that will use this gyro-sensor is Tony Hawk Downhill Jam for the DS. You’ll have to tilt your DS from left to right to steer your skater down the hill. This will give us the feeling like we’re playing with our Nintendo Wii on the road. Other developers got great ideas when they heard about this new accessory but I can’t share them with you yet.

Quote

Games like Excite Truck and Tony Hawk Downhill Jam for Nintendo Wii will allow you to connect your Nintendo DS (lite) wireless with your Nintendo Wii. The DS will be used as a controller. Don’t expect too much of this feature since the gyro-sensor cartridge for the DS isn’t as accurate as the Wiimote.

As far as Sony getting arrogant, I couldn't agree more. However, recently both Microsoft and Nintendo have gotten just as bad. Nintendo's vice president of marketing, Perrin Kaplan, blatantly informed Nintendo's consumers that no matter what, the Revolution was going to be renamed Wii. In so many words, she basically said that no amount of complaining would change the name and that people were going to buy the console no matter what. This sounds almost exactly like Sony's current rhetoric.

How can they even compair that statement??

We have built up a certain brand equity over time since the launch of PlayStation in 1995 and PS2 in 2000 that the first five million are going to buy it, whatever it is, even [if] it didn't have games," he told the site.

Nintendo is stating that this is the name they have chosen, and we're (wii're) not going to change it. Sony is saying, hey people know sony they will buy any piece of crap that has our logo on it because they are all little slaves to the sony brand, all hail before the might of SONY!!!......ok, maybe they are saying that much, but they might as well have

OK digging up an old thread here.

Thinking about elebits and interacting with almost everything made me think of a great new game.

An X-men spinoff. A Magneto FPS!!!

Think about it, running around being able to control anything that is metal.

You could use the nunchuck to move and the wii-mote to point and click at the objects you want to use.

Throw something at an enemy by pointing at the object, holding down a button (larger objects take longer to move or maybe you have to level up RPG style) then you can hurl it at an enemy by moving the wii-mote towards them and letting go of the button!

Maybe even use your powers to steal a gun and use it, but the main focus would be on using the metal in the areas.

That would be a fun game and fully use the wii-mote!

I more or less liked the fact of just picking things up and throwing them around, trying to find the little creatures seems kinda neat, but I really just want to thrash the house.

Makes me think of a new game idea, I'll have to post it sometime

Friend of a friend rumors about the controls, take with a salt shaker

Wii Controls

Quote

The basic "concept" is that the Wiimote will control arm actions, while the Nunchaku will take on leg actions.

Light and heavy kicks, for example, will be done with the C and Z triggers on the Nunchaku. The analog stick lets you run (free roaming stages, similar to last two games). Finally, jumping is done by nudging the Nunchaku upwards.

On the other hand (ba-dum-tsh), you have light and heavy punches done with A and B. Blocking is done with the d-pad, and yes, it blocks in the direction you press.

Now, remember how in past fighting games moves were executed with a roll across the d-pad and a button press or two? Now, instead of the d-df-f style thumbrolls, you actually just point the Wiimote down and swing up to the forward position and then hit your button. This has two interesting side effects: 1) you can much more easily perform moves while running, as the controls are independent; 2) button mashers around the office are easily outed and christened with the new 'flailer' nomenclature. If you know what you're doing it apparently looks pretty cool.

Here's a new video I found of Tony Hawks Downhill Jam. It's got a guy commentating over it but you get to see the Wii-mote in action. Pretty interesting. It's the one labeled "Wii Gameplay With Commentary"

They probably figured that a Mortal Kombat game on the Wii will sell better than on a Cube, and you know what, I bet they are right.

Once again, Nintendo's attempt to keep game development next generation simple will help move games to their system.

MK: A was never planned on being released on the cube, it was gonna be PS2 and XBox only.

What's funny is that they had mentioned that this game wouldn't come out for any next-gen systems. Wonder why the Wii??

Nintendo Gaming / Free Wii dev kits???
« on: July 29, 2006, 11:07:26 AM »
Source - Free dev kits

Quote

Just got word of an interesting (and totally unconfirmed) rumor from one of our insiders. It seems that Nintendo is giving Wii development kits to smaller studios. A developer in a big coastal American city apparently received a mysterious package from Nintendo. Office staff, programmers, and even the president weren't aware what was inside. The box was opened, and viola, Wii dev kit. This could be a ploy on Nintendo's part to get as many companies working on Wii games as possible. If this is true, it certainly shows Nintendo has improved its stance towards third party studios, as opposed to the iron-fisted days of yore. As I mentioned, this is totally unconfirmed, could've been some mix-up or miscommunication on the developer's end, but it does come from a good source. Do what you will with this tidbit
