Nintendo Gaming / RE:Elebits
« on: August 24, 2006, 11:57:00 AM »
I really like the multi-player part of it they added.

The point of the game is to collect these little things, elebits, they are hiding everywhere so you basically have to try and tear everything up to find them.

I'm sure with the multi-player it's gonna be a sort of "party mode" at least I hope they add that. Everyone in one room trying to collect as many elebits as you can withen the time limit. Should make for some interesting times!

My girlfriend, who is a massage therapist and is probably tired of hearing me talk about Wii all the time, was talking to her boss at the spa and they somehow started talking about video games.

Her boss was talking about how much she would enjoy the games if she didn't have to sit around the whole time and that whenever she plays the games she moves her arms around anyway trying to mimic the jumps and stuff. So my girl started talking about the Wii to her and all the great things that Wii is. She sounded kinda excited about the idea.

Wow, a 35 year old female massage therapist and yoga instructor is now interested in buying a Wii. Talk about reaching out to a new market!

Then again, XBox 360 didn't start manufacturing until about a month and a half before it's launch date and it had a perfect launch. hahaha

More Sony news

Thought I'd put it here, since it's more about Sony than the PS3, but it does mention it.

Quote

Sony confirmed to The Times that production was yet to get underway but said that the company still planned to have 4 million of the machines ready for the key Christmas period.
The news follows the recall last week of more than 4 million Sony batteries that were supplied with Dell laptops

Ouch, make 4 million PS3's but now have to recall 4 million batteries! Anyone else think PS3 is going to be faulty out the door?

Quote

Together with continuing restructuring costs linked to 10,000 job cuts and several factory closures, the PS3 launch is expected to cut Sony profits almost in half this year.

Double ouch.

They're going to show off a driving/battle game called Wiidge Racer where you drive around hitting giant crabs for massive damage, this will be the only Wii game not to use the rumble feature.

I'm look for suggestion on how big of one and maybe anyother preventative type things that might be worth considering.

What you want is a product made by monster cable. You can get several different kinds, they range anywhere from $80 to around $1500.
HT 800 is the cheapest they have with clean power. The higher you go up the better protection you get.

This is the one you really want. Pro 7000

He pretty much comfirmed UMD movies are dead. (as if we didn't know)

Quote

We see the UMD as really being a delivery medium of entertainment content. And as is the case with PlayStation 3, some things lend themselves better to a delivery medium through online to the memory stick. Other content lends itself better to a prerecorded medium in the form of a UMD disk. At the end of the day, our strategy is first and foremost to establish and certainly grow the PlayStation Portable as a portable gaming and entertainment device. As a by-product of that we've set up a format called the UMD. If there are advantages, or for the motion picture companies to take advantage of UMD to deliver their content or music companies to deliver their content on UMDs, that's great. But at the same time, if they perceive another delivery medium or other ways of delivering that content to the consumers to be enjoyed on the PlayStation Portable, at the end of the day that's all going to help in increasing the installed base of the PlayStation Portable, and that's all good news as far as we're concerned.

Found this article at Gamespot. Has a couple of little things worth mentioning
PS3 Interview
Quote

I think that we've always talked about shipping 2 million units worldwide within the calendar year. Since we're going with three territories, we haven't really come up with an allocation just yet. But even if you do the simple math you're talking about less than 700,000 units per territory, per major territory, between launch and the end of the year. So even if there was some fluctuation--you give Japan more, you give the US more, what have you--you're going to end up with some shortages. So I think that if we've done our jobs right and if we've been able to really have the consumers become interested in this product, then, unfortunately, I think it's going to be very much of a challenge to be able to meet every single unit demand that's out there in the market.

Possible shortage...that's not good

Quote

We haven't started manufacturing yet. Some of our ops guys were actually just in China, and also in Japan just reviewing the [production] lines and everything else. But they are, again, preparing as we speak to get the manufacturing going. We've not announced and we haven't set really a specific date to say, "As of this day we're going to start manufacturing."

3 months to go...and no production yet

Quote

I do think that the old E3 was great at what is was designed to do perhaps 10 years ago. But as the industry evolved, and as the show became bigger and bigger, a lot of the member companies said, "You know what? We need to take a real hard look at what E3 brings as a benefit versus the cost to put on the show."

Sony killed E3

There were some positive things said in that interview...but I don't like the PS3...so I posted the negative

Nintendo Gaming / Reggie Fils-Aime's interview
« on: August 15, 2006, 08:40:07 AM »
USA Today

Confirms free online play (again) and talks about a few other things.

Quote

Q: How do you extend your online strategy to Wii?
A: It's the same premise. We will offer online-enabled games that the consumers will not have to pay a subscription fee for. They'll be able to enjoy that right out of the box. The Wii console is going to be Wi-Fi enabled, so essentially, you'll be able to plug it in and go. It won't have hidden fees or costs.

Quote

Q: Microsoft has made the comment that people can buy an Xbox 360 and Wii for about the same price as a PlayStation 3. Would you mind terribly if that happened?
A: I'd much rather have the consumer buy a Wii, some accessories, and a ton of games, vs. buying any of my competitor's products.

hahahaha
Quote

Q: Your background is in marketing. Without divulging competitive secrets, can you characterize your marketing plan?
A: It's going to be massive amounts of hands-on activity, as well as showcasing exactly how Wii games are different. We're going to create advocacy. We're going to make it so that everyone who tries the Wii experience talks to their friends and neighbors. It's going to be a really provocative sight to be seeing teens and 20-year-olds and 40-year-olds and 50-year-olds talking about how different this experience is.

Sounds good
Quote

Q: What can you tell us about timing and price?
A: We're well on our way to sharing all of that information with our retailers and our licensees. We'll be sharing that information publicly later on.

Pretty neat interview, seems he likes the wii a lot. Maybe we'll get Wii Alice!

Quote

"The only truly next-gen console out there is the Wii. Everything else is just a video card and processor upgrade."

That's one of the sources I was talking about. But they do claim them to be launch day titles

Quote

If your worried about the Wii suffering from the lackluster launch day the DS did, you can put all those fears to rest.

Quote

The PS3 is currently sitting at 15 confirmed games on it's November 17th launch day.

So they are referring to the launch DAY, of those games, 4 I can't find comfirmed on other sites, well maybe wikipedia, but IGN says no.

So should I update the list or not?

I have to say I love Dead Rising. Been playing almost every day since we got it. The text thing is annoying as hell and why can't Otis just talk over the damn radio?? The saving is kind of annoying but also kinda fun.

My favortie weapons so far, the sickle, the lawnmower, and the chainsaw. So much fun to just mow down all the zombies! Oh and there's also a hidden Kitana near the begining of the game that's pretty awesome, too!

Oh and VGrevolution, from what I've read there is an Infinity mode. As to what that truly is I don't know yet. but it sounds like it might be free roam.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon on Wii

Pretty neat interview. Check it out
Quote

I was wondering at the time what we would be able to substitute for the missing buttons. Remember, at the time of the original interview, I hadn't even touched a Wii controller. As far as doing something new, there are obviously a million new ideas that come to mind in working with what we now know as the Wii controller.

Quote

With that in mind, making our current iteration of MK with a new controller (with fewer button inputs) does impose challenges. But the new controller also opens up a sea of new possible ideas that could not have been considered with the traditional game-pad configuration. That is were the controller gets exciting from a developer's standpoint.

Quote

Unfortunately I can't confirm the use of any of the controllers at this time. But I can assure you that we are definitely going to look into all of the controller options available to the Wii. Wii would be crazy not to. Sorry, I couldn't resist. [Smiles]

He sounds pretty excited about Wii!

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Complete List of Wii Launch Titles
« on: August 12, 2006, 08:56:06 AM »
Not sure if I should update this or not, some other sites are claiming Avatar: The Last Airbender, Call of Duty 3, Excite Truck, and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers are also Launch titles. Although IGN still has them listed has TBA.

Also IGN has the Motor Sports as a launch title and I haven't seen it pop up anywhere else.

Should I add those other 4 titles and remove motor sports or keep the list as is?

MCV: Sony must take Action

Quote

There’s no doubt that EA has historically bet more on PSP. I think we were excited by the technology, but the consumers have proven that actually what they want is fun. We must never forget that what we need to focus on is fun and so EA is putting more effort behind DS games – and creative ones that really take advantage of the hardware.

Another blow to the PSP and another bump up for the DS!
