sony and M$ just don't care about graphics, and their new systems 2 generations from now when graphics are peaking will not be boring.

can gran turismo, metal gear, final fantasy, and all the other exclusives they have ever get so boring that noone will buy them....? no chance.

to say sony and M$ don't care about gameplay is ludicrous, to say nintendo cares about gameplay more though would be true.

to say M$ cares about graphics most though, would also be true.

I'd also like to say MS fully detailed some beautiful looking characters(atleast 10 of them) that showed up for maybe three minutes each(no wonder they needed a dual-sided DVD).

After saying all that, I still enjoyed the game, but it was a waste of potential.  I'm looking forward to Episode 2, but I don't see why MS is changing the main character when the original is still alive and kickin'.

they goto second militia and the game just ends? WTH are you talkin about????
the story is long, the 20 minute cinemas tell alot of story...
who wants to play as the main character in every rpg, you can only bring their personality so far without them becoming stale, i welcome this change!

what's PCSX2?
just because you don't buy Pepsi because it's not Coke, does that make you an idiot? YES lol

The thing is, if I were to go out and buy a PS2, I would buy exactly one game for it. Xenosaga.
WTH, the PS2 has many games worth buying.

if you're so concerned that you may actually give sony 25 bucks of profit by buying a PS2, and 15 bucks of profit by buying xenosaga, then why don't you just buy them used?

I dont think that nintendo should try to compete with EA in the sports category. They will get Owned. If N5 launched like 2 months before PS3/XbX2, Nintendo should try to get Madden and Live exclusive for 4 months. Madden sold the PS2 at launch. Who says it cant do the same for N5?

I'm not saying they should compete with EA Sports, I am replying to the first post in this topic where the guy says they should create a sports brand, and from what I said it's clear i think they shouldn't.
(i take it you aimed your response at me not the guy who brought up the idea that nintendo should start a sports brand because you quoted me, not him)

also you quoted me out of context, i said: sure, they could beat EA Sports... but not in the first year, it would take atleast 2 years for them to challenge EA Sports and Nintendo doesn't have M$ money to lose..
making me sound stupid by quoting me as saying: in the first year, it would take atleast 2 years for them to challenge EA Sports.....

There is no way that anyone will be getting Madden or Live exclusive for a set amount of months (unless it happened by chance, with GC and XBOX not releasing until a year later thereby making madden and live exclusive for all that time on ps2), EA would never go for any sort of thing.

« on: August 03, 2003, 01:02:35 PM »
if the pelican lasts 6 months, how long does the wavebird last?
is it really that bad if these things last that long, to need to use rechargeables?

for my GBA, i just goto a wholesale store and pick up a pack of 24 AA batteries for like 10 bucks.

also be careful to only recharge batteries on the charger they came with, using a different charger to recharge batteries can have bad consequences.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Nintendo Licensing music?
« on: August 03, 2003, 12:56:44 PM »
actually F-Zero's music by nintendo has always been amazing,
and from recent impressions of F-Zero GX they say the music is phenomenal.

imagine mario bros 1 with licensed music??? do you mean stripping down the music to midi files with no lyrics?, because that's the only way that could've happened.

it's true music can outdate game's faster, but people are not gonna put on mute in say tony hawk when they play it years from now... do people put on mute when they hear classic rock....? NO

do people go out of there way to listen to old songs, buy old albums, listen to old music radio stations, goto concerts of old bands playing songs 30 years old, yes yes yes yes, etc, etc...

it's fun to have real music in some games, but most of the best music in games is made by the videogame companies themselves, especially rpgs.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Sonys PSP vs. GBA- Does Nintendo have a chance?
« on: August 02, 2003, 11:25:56 PM »
has it ever occured to anyone that the psp won't cost alot to make
because they're planning on having 10 million ready at launch.....

the main reason game consoles lower in price is because the companies
buy more parts for the console as the demand increases.

sony is taking a huge risk by producing 10 million to be ready at launch though.

as far as screen size of psp....well it only makes sense to have it 4.5 inches...
3d games require bigger screens in order to play them and who would want to watch a 2 hour movie on a 2 inch screen???

also nintendo cannot wait 2 years before challenging psp with a new gameboy... if they did that they could kiss there portable market share bye bye.
also, a 1 gb cartridge would be so expensive......no chance that's happening anytime soon, infact never probably...all consoles, portable or not, will abandon cartridges very soon.

with sonys fanbase so huge, it's hard to say what will happen.

sega gave nintendo a run for their money in the genesis/snes days, and it was really just from image.
but nintendo has really grown up since then image wise... mortal kombat 2 was the first small step.

then sega made huge mistakes with sega cd, 32x, and a bad saturn launch.
then playstation made lots of ground on nintendo with image (again, sigh) and exclusive games.
(damnit nintendo you had to piss of square by terminating snes cd and forcing them to seriously cutback on secret of mana's features.....)
had nintendo had final fantasy 7-9 and FF Tactics on n64 instead of playstation.....well....sigh......

now with sonys fanbase of 35+ million consoles in players hands, it's going to be an uphill battle for nintendo, and with sony continuing to get exclusives, including huge seller exclusives
(gran turismo series, final fantasy, metal gear) it's gonna be very hard to beat them.

if sony pulls any kind of sega....then well, nintendos chances will drastically improve.
and if nintendo can get some of the exclusives to also appear on nintendo's next console, well then it's going to be very good indeed for nintendo. (final fantasy 13 on ps3 and N5...droool, metal gear 4 on ps3 and N5....drool begins to make stain on carpet)

(although nintendo's getting final fantasy and metal gear already on GC,,,they're not the corresponding series new games, mainly they're sidequests...)

edit: nintendo has already worked on recent sports games, nba courtside this generation and for n64, and ken griffey on snes and n64... i'm sure they sold well, but they can't compete with EA Sports, and so that's probably why they haven't created a sports brand.  sure, they could beat EA Sports... but not in the first year, it would take atleast 2 years for them to challenge EA Sports and Nintendo doesn't have M$ money to lose and pull the M$ "this is building for the future product mentality"  (they could beat EA Sports with 1 sports title a year right off the bat, but not in all the sports genres that EA Sports covers)

well until someone can come up with some concrete evidence regarding the specs not even equaling n64 graphics i can't concure with you one bit.
saying it won't even equal n64 graphics, even if the psp specs are very highly exagerrated is just flame to me.  even if the psp specs turn out to be 1/10 of what they currently are it will still be more powerful than n64.

uglydot- that is a unique situation, it sounds like your best bet is to invest in a rechargeable hook up for your gba and future portable systems, trust me here.... it saved my game gear from being trash.

just think greyninja when ps2's price goes way down in say 2 years you will able to experience
xenosaga, which will by then be a great classic rpg

and since the xenosaga series is going to span 6 games over 3 different generations of platforms
you will definitely want to experience the first game in the series, xenosaga, to know the entire story.

and with xenosaga 2 already being made it looks like they will fulfill this prophecy
unlike the ogre battle series claim...

dude it's very rare, i know you're concerned after your 3rd party memory card fiasto
but this GC drive thing has probably happened to like . 2 percent of people, not 2%, . 2%
just make sure the left and right side of your gamecube have ventilation, i.e. not blocked by anything and you should have no problems

In terms of sales, the N64 had a VERY good launch. It may have only had 2 or 3 games but a LOT of people bought N64's. The PS2's launch, on the other hand, was restricted by Sony's hardware shortage, so it couldn't sell any more than 500,000 units.

I heard the N64 sold about 3 million (I think) units in it's first week or weekend I don't realy remember.  I have a tape about the N64's launch, so I'm going to have to double check those numbers.

it was 300,000 man, no console has sold anywhere near 3 million in that amount of time, i doubt that feat could ever happen even in the first week.  after selling out the initial shipment of n64, it was almost 2 weeks until the next shipment arrived...(i know from the experience i had trying to get my n64)

check this link...for the sales figures of nintendo 64 when it first came out: N64 sales figures

Nintendo 64 launched with two games, mario 64 and pilotwings 64, and although both games were stellar, it only had 2!!! games at launch! it wasn't until weeks later that a 3rd game arrived.

No offense joeamis, but Super Mario 64 ended up selling over 6 million copies in America alone. That as well as Wave Race 64's sales exclipses all of Nintendos first party sales combined this gen.
Quote

umm, perm, do you mean windwaker? i wonder how much better gamecube would've done if windwaker was ready at launch... but it's very rare to have a game of that caliber at launch

No he means Majoras Mask. If Nintendo launched thier GC earlier, they would have moved Majoras Mask onto the cube. Just imagine if GC had launched in 2000 with Perfect Dark, Majoras Mask, Conkers Bad Fur Day and Paper Mario.

super mario 64 sold 6 million copies over 7 years.... they didn't even have a million ready at launch....so your point is invalid.  wave race 64 came out over 2 months after the n64 launched...point invalid again.
even if mario 64 and waverace's combined sales are more than the current generation first party sales that has no reference to do with console launches being good or bad, the freakin games have been out for 7 years now.... and they're still being sold new in some countries as we speak..........

if nintendo launched their GC earlier to 2000, they would have had less than 1/4 of the time that it took to make perfect dark, majoras mask, conkers bad fur day, and paper mario....  infact knowing Rare theres no way in hell perfect dark could've been done for the gamecube until late 2001 even if the GC launched in 2000....
it's nice to think of such pipe dreams but the reality is...that's a fantasy...

agreed.  i believe some games can be perfect for individuals, it just hits them the right way like a great episode of the simpsons.

for instance the following games were perfect in my eyes but probably were not perfect to others:
(only games that i have beat our allowed on this list, you will notice no current generation games are on this list because I have not beaten them... i know i should've beaten my new games but i haven't had enough time to play them all to completion)

game/platform
chrono trigger snes
super mario brothers 1-3 (at the time of release...i highly stress at the time) nes
final fantasy tactics psone
final fantasy 7 psone
stunt race fx snes
super metroid snes
tecmo super bowl (nes version) nes
goldeneye n64
double dragon arcade arcade
starfox snes
super mario kart snes
Metal Gear (nes version) nes
Metal Gear Solid 1 psone
Excitebike 64 n64
Contra 3 snes
zelda 1 and 2 nes

im sure i forgot atleast 5 games... maybe 10, oh well

if i had picked up zelda so cheap, i wouldn't have traded it in, i would've kept it sealed, in my closet until i become an old man and then sell it on ebay as a collectors item lol, but thats just me.

he's right about these wholesale stores, i got xenosaga there for 26.99 back around april there.

unfortunately the wholesale clubs tend to have stock of greatest hits games or cheap below average titles, but if you search well enough often you will find a steal.
