Damn, I've already died like 4 times.  One point in the game that I won't mention, had me go through 2 characters back to back lol.

That was my first death Easy lol.  I soon as I set off that alarm and saw Zombies coming out the woodworks, I went into a full blown panic.  I started to run around and then tried running into the door and began to swing away.  I completely forgot I had a gun lol.

Wow, this is a complete 180 from what I've read on other forums.  Most people have said the game is trash and suffers from lots of issues like a bad framerate.  I don't know what to believe anymore.  Seems like everyone is saying all the 3rd party ports have issues.  Some are playable and some not so much, according to "them" lol.

Thanks for the info Easy, I set it up with my TV just not my Tivo box.  Hopefully a full guide will be available once TVii is released in a couple of weeks.  I'm going crazy though looking for reviews.  I can't find anything on AssCreed 3 or Black Ops 2.

Quick note about the Gamepad, that screen is bananas, its only 480p but it looks just as good as my 1080p TV.  Was looking at the Trine 2 images on the Eshop, game looks like bullshots which is crazy becuase from the videos I've seen, that IS how the game actually looks.  Its amazing, I think that'll be my first Eshop purchase.

Hey EasyCure, when you map the pad to be your cable remote, do you get a guide displayed on the gamepad or is it just numbers simulating a controller?  I'll die if an actual guide shows up similar to the one used on cable boxes.  Even without that though, I can easily see this Gamepad and the WiiU being THE device I turn on when I get home at night and try to relax.

Given the system and game is out, I figured we should revive this thread for the purpose of providing impressions.  I haven't yet played my copy yet as I've been creeping around London killing zombies but I have seen videos up showcasing the game.

Looking at the videos though of running around the plaza as your Mii got me thinking.  I don't know if this is just me but looking at those videos makes me want a game centered around Miis.  Either a 3d platforming game, a sim's type of game, or even an online Lago City Undercover type of game with all your Miis running around the city.

I find it amazing how Nintendo has, in a way, created each and every one of us into one of their new mascots.  That's what these Mii avatars feel like now.  They aren't just a picture associated with a username, they are characters in Nintendo's games now.  Anyways, that's a discussion left for another thread.

I look forward to trying out some of these attractions in Nintendoland, it just sucks that I don't really many local friends to really put this game through its paces.

As BnM and Caterkiller have touched on the browser is 10 times better than I was expecting.  Heck, the whole OS is great.  I jumped into Miiverse real quick and was checking out a few of the communities.  Its great and reminds me of twitter/facebook in a way.  Its also a good way to get some quick feedback on a game as you can skim through the comments and see if their are any complaints being slung at the game.

I haven't really tried Netflix yet but I'll be doing that tonight hopefully.  I still can't get over the browser though.  I don't have a tablet so this is going to become my "go-to" device when I am home and want to check something out online.  It used to be my phone but this thing is just so much smoother and better to use.  I also LOVE that my Mii is at the bottom of the browser and everytime I open my bookmarks, he opens his book.  If I flip through the pages of my bookmarks, he does the same.  Its a small touch that's very typical of Nintendo which really makes something so common become unique.  Like BnM said, if they can get swype on here, I don't think I'll ever bother to turn my computer on again unless its for college purposes.

Well the reviewer did admit he was always hording all his good weapons in fear he would lose them upon death.  Its kind of hard not ending up having to always use your cricket bat when all your other weapons are at the safe house.  He also goes on to say that he enjoyed the run and gun multiplayer mode more than the campain so I'm sure you can see what kind of game he wanted this to be like.

EDIT:  Just finished some quick gameplay sessions and I feel ashamed to say it, but I feel like a big baby lol.  Being a lover of horror movies, I can't believe I'm such a wreck playing this game lol.  I've been moving at a snails pace in every area, smacking skulls of every dead body I see.  When I finally got out of the safe house and into the open streets, I felt so vulnerable in that death could come from any corner now.  When your in the tunnels you really only have to worry about 2 directions, the front and the back.  When your outside, its like a sensory overload, I start looking every which way, hitting my radar and hoping nothing is near.  It looks like the game so far does give you options at times to sneak past the zombies if you take the time to look around the area and not do anything to alert them of your presence.

Anyways, the game has been great so far.  I love the graphics and the lighting is top notch.  The pitch dark areas are golden as is the tunnel affect the flashlight gives off.  Its really creepy stuff.

Given I'm only playing in 30 min or so increments, I wonder how many weeks this is going to take me to finish lol.  I can't even begin to imagine whoever manages to beat this game in survivor mode.  That's going to be a badge of honor in these parts I bet lol.

Same here, ZombiU is a day one for me regardless of seeing mix bagged reviews.  Everything I've seen and read looks good to me.  I'll provide impressions also.  I think tomorrow we should create individual threads for each game so impressions will become easy to find.

I find it funny that a "day one update" not being available before "day one" is concerning lol.  I do get what you mean though, one would assume it'll be available for all the press to use but if its called a "day one update", I'd expect it'll be going up on day one.  Now if tomorrow the update is not coming through, then I'll be worried.  Regardless though, as long as the thing plays games, all the other stuff I can wait for.

Yeah, I should be doing some homework for class Monday but I'm too enthralled reading the meltdowns over in the Neogaf ZombiU review thread lol.

Quick question though for everyone who is getting the WiiU.  Are you getting a screen protector for the gamepad or you jumping in without protection?  I'm a little paranoid about touchscreens so I might be picking up a screen protector tomorrow.  Does anyone also know if the gamepad's screen is scratch resistant or have any special layers to it.

Yeah, the edge review seemed the best of the 3 IMO.  There is also another review out from Gamesmaster which gave it a 97 but that hasn't been comfirmed so we'll have to wait on that one.  I'm reading that more reviews will show up after midnight tonight.

Nintendo Gaming / ZombiU, great game or pure trash? who to believe....

ZombiU reviews are coming in and wow, they are all over the place.  Here's a summary courtesy of the Neogaf members.

Gamespot: 4.5/10
Quote
ZombiU is a game trapped in the wrong genre. The run-and-gun multiplayer modes emphasise the game's competent shooting mechanics and ability to create interesting enemy encounters. However those two aspects of play are de-emphasised in the game proper, replaced with a bare minimum of story, and some simple puzzles. ZombiU could have been an enjoyable action game, but instead it is a poor entry in the survival horror genre.

Official Nintendo Magazine: 92/100
Summary from member MrT-Tar who has the issue
Quote
With ZombiU, they love the fact that it is truly a survival horror game, and a legitimately scary one as well. The attention to detail is apparently fantastic as well, they use the example of the ingame depiction of London Underground stations, featuring status boards, announcements, turnstyles, the round help buttons, etc. They also see the gamepad as being used excellently, for example as a scanner, inventory, controlling security cameras, etc. They have a few minor issues and glitches with the gameplay, but nothing too major. They also wished it had online play and Miiverse functionality. Overall, they claim that it is 'the game you'll be switching on to illustrate why the WiiU is so great'.

Edge: 7/10
quote from member Visualante2 who has the issue
Quote
"ZombiU makes the relationship between TV and GamePad screens feel fresh, and - displaying a clear awareness of horror gaming conventions - it toys with you brilliantly [...] and contribute to sophisticated shocks. The GamePad's new way to play also presents new ways for you to be played, and the resulting surprises are often delightful."

They go on to lament a back tracking section towards the end of the game, and a loss of "earthy realism" in the cheaper, fantastical enemies as the game progresses.

edit. I noticed they also said that the game fails to capture London's ethnic diversity, which was a concern of mine from the trailers also. Minor point, but a missed opportunity for Montpellier.

Wow, where do I begin.  I'm not familiar with ONM but given its a Nintendo centered magazine, I won't put much weight into that review.  The Edge review seems good anf fair and they seem to be a tough crowd.  Looking at their other reviews, they gave Halo 4 an 8 when all other reviews I've seen from other sites have been near 10s.

Now as for that Gamespot review, ughhh, wtf.  That score is one I associate with games that are broken or swamped with glitches and imperfections.  From everything I've seen and read, the game doesn't look to be broken.  I think the review just didn't like the flow and approach of the game and his review and score suffered greatly from it.

Now I really can't wait to see other reviews pop up on this game to see what the verdict truly is.  I'm thinking this game is going to be one of those "you either love it or you hate it" types.

As for that Best Buy pickup today issue, I was reading that someone in the Neogaf forums actually got to pick theres up today and once the staff realized they Fed up, they called and offered him a 25 dollar gift card to bring it back lol.  I don't know how true it is but I wouldn't be suprised.

Anyways, I finally got my system paid off today and was assured they have enough at my local Gamestop to cover preorders (I'll still be there early just in case though).
I really can't wait though.  I've never really been too big on online gaming even though I have a 360 and PS3 but Nintendo's whole approach really has me excited for this.  I too cannot wait to have the NWR posse of Miis running around my WiiU.  I think I'm going to even change my profile avatar to my Mii so everyone will be able to recognize me if they ever see me running around their games or plaza lol

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Looking both ways before animal crossing
« on: November 17, 2012, 02:59:35 AM »
To me, it does, its basically a better looking Wild World with a few upgrades but nothing that's too drastic.  I'm so torn at the moment.  I want to play some Animal Crossing at the moment to help keep the anticipation of New Leaf at bay but each one of the current games has issues that are killing it for me.  I LOVE the gamecube version but the fact that I can only play it when I'm home is an issue as my gametime is mostly done at night when nothing much goes on in the towns.  Wild World on the other hand I can take with me but for the life of me, I can't get used to how small the town feels and downgrade in graphics, its just a complete turn off for me.  The Wii version is nice but suffers from the same issue I have with the Cube edition in that I can only play when I'm home.  It also has that dreaded grass degeneration affect and that lame city that I never bother to go to.

F me man, if only New Leaf were coming out soon.

Wii U GamePad Details revealed
liquid fast proprietary wifi; 26ft range is conservative (could be 4x that... and possibly longer)
http://www.polygon.com/2012/11/16/3653294/wii-u-range-test-gamepad

Quote
The technology, co-developed by Nintendo and wireless and broadband communication giant Broadcom, marries run-of-the-mill WiFi with a power bit of proprietary software to create a two-way stream of low-latency, high-definition video and controls between the WIi U and its innovative GamePad.
[...]
The technology is built on top of something called WiFi Miracast, which Broadcom first developed last summer. It's a system that is specifically designed to deal with interference issues while maintaining liquid fast two-way communication.

Broadcom and Nintendo then teamed up to create a more solid system for the Wii U to GamePad connection.
Quote
While the official specs for the Wii U's GamePad say that it will operate properly at a distance between 8 inches and a bit more than 26 feet from the console, Polygon found that we could get quite a bit more out of the connection. And set-ups in rural location could close to quadruple that distance.

Pawling, a town of 8,400 nestled in upstate New York's Harlem Valley, is a haven free of many interfering radio frequencies. Residents of the town struggle to get cell phone service and FM or AM radio broadcasts. The small population also means there's not a very high density of radio frequencies in the area.

That's bad for making cell phone calls, but great for extending the usefulness of the Wii U's GamePad.

In Pawling, we found that you could use the GamePad well outside the 26-foot recommended range of the device.

It worked in adjoining bedrooms, bathrooms, outside, in an office, up stairs, at a distant kitchen table and even in the boiler room amidst furnaces and massive oil drums.

Placed outside, we were able to play New Super Mario Bros. U on the GamePad's screen while nearly twice the recommended range from the television.
[...]
Tests in the lab were able to maintain connections between the Wii U and the GamePad at more than 100 feet, he said.

So why does Nintendo say it only reaches 26 feet?
[...]
So Nintendo created a range that their studies showed would reflect the experience of "99.9 percent of all users," he said. "We've done many multiples of (Nintendo's suggested range), but Nintendo's perspective is that they want to guarantee a flawless user experience."

And it's possible that even that longer range could be extended.

While Bekis was clear that Nintendo hasn't talked about the idea of using repeaters or range extenders with the Wii U and GamePad, he did say that the technology supports their use.
more & video @ the link

Thanks for all the info BnM, I'm currently majoring in networking and network security so hearing about these new wireless technologies is fascinating to me.  I love the part of using repeaters and extenders.  I never thought of that and that'll really go a long way to extending their range.  I would love it if Nintendo were to release a repeater that I could place near the bathroom and/or bedroom if the Gamepad doesn't get that far in my house.

Oh, and I would've loved to see that posse picture photoshoped with your avatar faces lol.  Thats something Neogaf is always good for, I always find them hilarious lol.

I got my Deluxe preordered the same afternoon as the release date was announced.  Just traded in my OG 360 today towards it and was going to trade in my Wii but since there was a slight sound of something ratling around inside the system, Gamestop said they'll have to consider it a "damaged" unit.  Given you only get 30 dollars for a used Wii, I can't even imagine the levels of raping I'd have to suffer for a "damaged" Wii that still works fine.  AND they also wouldn't take my Wii because I didn't have the basic audio video cables, I had the dam component ones which I guess don't count.  To make a long story short, I'll be selling my Wii on Ebay now.

Let me get back on track though.  I think I have around 135 payed off of my preorder but will be paying it in full probably on Saturday.  Will also be looking to get ZombiU and its a toss up right now between AssCreed 3, CoD, and Darkstalkers 2..oh and NBA 2k13.  ZombiU is a def for me but the others I want to read up on their reviews.

Quick question though, with Gamestop preorders.  Does anyone know if Gamestop is getting enough to cover their preorders?  I've asked around and they all say if you preordered, your guaranteed a system on launch day.  Then they said its going to be a first come first serve basis when it comes to preorders.  This just has me worried though as I don't trust Gamestop or most of the people that work there (at least in my shops).  Has anyone on here heard anything about Gamestop's preorders that could shed light on this?  Do I have to line up outside Sunday morning even though I have a preorder or can I just walk in and be confident my Deluxe will be there?
Last I heard from different sources is actually that GameStop was going conservative on their actual Pre-Orders and that their was the possibility of having extras.  I need to find that article.

That would be a blessing.  Sunday can't come soon enough.  I had too much vacation time at work that needed to be used before I lost it so I'll be off from Sunday to Thursday.  Good times ahead.

I'm not really bothered by them, they just look like regular video game character models, just alot more detailed.  They don't look much different from other high end games.  It reminds me somewhat of LA Noire's models and those never bothered me.  Its the only approach they have I guess given the more serious look the series has had since 4.  I'm digging it though, was never really a fan of any GTAs until 4 came out.  All the other ones before seemed too cartoony to me.  Thats part of the reason I could never get myself to even touch the Saint's Row series.

I really loved the look of the engine in the trailer.  Looks amazing.  Reading up on the game though has me a little torn.  I do like the approach of using 3 characters and how they'll affect gameplay during the story, but how will that work outside of the story.  When I just want to drive around and kick off steam, which character will I be using?  What are the other characters doing when I'm off joy riding with one?  Am I forced to take all 3 out for a ride whenever I want to just go for a spin?

Anyways, I was really hoping this GTA would be the one to introduce a create a character feature but I guess that wish will have to wait another 4 years or so for another shot.  I really wish they'll let me create my own character and have him be the center of the story.  I've never been too crazy over any of the main characters in the series.

Tell me about it, watching some of the live streams and following the gameplay thread over at neogaf is just brutal.  Replaying Wildworld isn't helping either as I was never too much of a fan of that release.  This dam game better come on on Jan 1, I don't want to wait any longer.

I started this game a couple months back and one thing led to another and I haven't got back to it.  Now I'm at a point where I don't have the drive anymore to get back in and deal with the grind of playing it.  I don't know what it is but the game never truly grabbed me.  This is my 4Th Tales game (2 of which I completed)  I tried out Tales of Phantasia on an emulator but never got the drive to continue.  I finished ToS on the Cube (which I loved) and Tales of Vesperia on the 360 (my fav of the bunch).  There is just something about this one that I can't put my finger on.

Anyways, glad others found enjoyment out of it.  I'm currently debating on whether I should sell it or keep it just in case I decide to give it another go sometime in the future (sh*t happens to me all the time with games I end up trading in lol).
