Nintendo Gaming / Re: Official Sales Thread

Too bad there is nothing coming out to supplement these solid numbers. Bayo 2 really should've been Summer.
I agree, I've been thinking the same thing recently.  It's great that Mario Kart 8 has done so well and the Wii U has seen an increase in sales but there just isn't anything to keep the momentum going.  If there was another big game hitting towards the end of summer maybe they'd keep things going but I have a feeling sales are going to drop way off until the holiday season hits.

The problem I have with them showing those early projects was that half the idea was to show off unique ideas for the Gamepad and if they're as early as they looked, it wouldn't surprise me if games based on them don't see the light of day until Nintendo's next system.

I'd be all over the Steve Harvey Family Feud edition Wii U.  Always enjoyed the show but his personality takes it to another level.

I can't imagine why you wouldn't take the time to register your games.  It takes very little time, the survey is short and while most of the rewards haven't been that great, some have been cool (I like the shirt) and if you don't want physical stuff, they've offered some good virtual console games as rewards.

I made platinum this year for the first time in a couple years, hopefully the platinum rewards this year will be more interesting than the past couple years.

Excellent news.  My wife uses Wii Fit U every day and she's getting close to completing all of the walking challenges that were originally included.  I was hoping they might release DLC with new challenges and maybe some new balance games but free in an update is even better.

It's a shame really, FIFA for Wii U uses the Gamepad well and is fun to play...

The great thing about this E3 is that it's hard to pick just one game.  I can't remember the last E3 Nintendo had where there were so many games with so much variety I was interested in.  I'm tempted to say Splatoon since it's the most interesting shooting game I've seen in a long time.  I'm tempted to say Captain Toad since I like Toad and it looks fun.  I'm tempted to say Yoshi's Wooly World since I really liked Kirby's Epic Yarn and Yoshi is awesome.  I'm tempted to say Bayonetta 2 since I wasn't interested in that before E3 and it's definitely on my radar now.  Project Guard definitely looks interest.  I love the thought of another good Starfox game.  Smash looks awesome.  Hyrule Warriors looks good.  Mario Maker will be a blast, not because I'll be any good at making levels but because other people are going to make awesome levels, I'm sure.  Zelda looks early, but awesome.  My pick is basically Nintendo, they brought it this year for the Wii U.  If I had to choose one game, I guess I'd have to say Yoshi's Wooly World since I know I'll really enjoy that, I'd go with Splatoon based solely on what they showed at E3 but I'm so bad at shooting games that there's a good chance I won't enjoy it as much.

It amazes me that a couple of Wii games released in 2008 are still on this list.  All of the non-Nintendo games on the list are all either 2013 or 2014 releases.  I know the Wii sold a bazillion units and everything, but that's still impressive.

This ain't just a "kiddy" shooter, it's the ONLY notable shooter of any sort on the Wii U.
And basically every fan of shooters already owns either a PS4 or XBOne.  And buys their shooters there.  What would a more realistic shooter do for Nintendo?  The fans of those games would largely ignore it because they'd rather play shooters on their other systems.  The people who only own a Wii U, like myself, probably don't have an interest in those games for the most part.  They could make an awesome shooter and it'd be a niche title or they can do what they've done and appeal to a lot more of the people who own their systems.

Looks interesting to me, I'm more interested in this than basically any other shooting game released in the past 10 years.  Nintendo gets it, at least in this case in my opinion, if they had announced that they were developing a Call of Duty/Halo type game, no one would really care.  There's already plenty of those out there that are great for the people into that kind of thing.  This is different and appeals more to the average Nintendo fan I'd imagine.  I'm all for something unique instead of more of the same.

I like the Harvest Moon series but it seems like they've gotten a little carried away with the number of games they release since the DS came out.

I'm looking forward to this.  I haven't played a Dynasty Warriors game since playing one with a roommate back in about 2006.  Not a series I'd want to play many games of but having not played one in almost ten years and adding in the Zelda world, I'm intrigued.  The screenshots look good, hopefully that's an indication of what the game will actually look like.

I'm pretty sure the ACA forces retailers to only sell the 32 GB model and not the 8 GB model...

If I didn't own a Wii U I don't know that Mario Kart 8 itself would push me over the edge but the limited time offer of a free game with purchase over the next couple months would have made it tempting.  But since I already have a Wii U I got in on the Kmart pre-order deal before the free game deal was announced, making it pretty much the best deal on a Nintendo game ever.

The rant about River King was quite amusing.  I haven't played any of the old games in the series but did put quite a few hours into the DS version which I found pretty enjoyable, basically the Harvest Moon of fishing games.  Definitely wasn't as confusing and out there as the version James played.

I speculate Nintendo will show that game we all want and have been dying to see since the previous game in that franchise's history.
Wii Music U?

It amazes me that they haven't already released these and added on new sports to Wii Sports club.  This seems like it should be a bigger feature of the Wii U  instead of an afterthought.

Does Philips actually still make anything?  I think I owned a CD player made by them about 15 years ago but until this story I can't remember the last time I saw any of their products or heard anything about them.

TalkBack / Re: Mario Kart 8 Review
« on: May 15, 2014, 05:50:11 PM »
Wow, people sure get excited when the review of a game they haven't even played yet is "wrong"...

I'm guessing the review is fairly accurate based on what Nintendo seems to do with their games for the most part now, make the graphics prettier, add in a couple new features, and not really make any drastic changes.  I'm sure I'll have a blast with the game regardless.  I skipped Mario Kart 7 so I'm ready for a new Mario Kart game but I can see how especially people who play all of the console and handheld games could get a little burnt out on the series since it doesn't change that much from game to game.

The one thing about the review that does seem a little off to me is that everything within the review about Mario Kart TV was positive, other than that it was resources that could have been used elsewhere, but then under cons it lists "Mario Kart TV is lame."

Wii U needs a Harvest Moon game...

I don't hate the Wii U, I just wish it had more to offer for the price. If they slashed a hundred bucks of the top right now I would get it next payday.

You can get a refurbished 32 GB system with Nintendoland directly from Nintendo for $200 right now: https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/browse/productDetailColorSizePicker.jsp?_DARGS=/ng3/global/gadgets/productListRangeRow.jsp.addToCartFormId

Technically not new but everything I've read is that these systems are indistinguishable from new systems.

I see both extremes here. You guys DO know that it doesn't have to be black and white, right?
We can have a gray area of people who don't worship Nintendo's every move and also don't curse at every move Nintendo makes, yes?
No, our society doesn't know anything about being moderate or reasonable.  Everyone just stays at one extreme or the other and yells about how the other side is completely wrong.

The thing I don't understand is why people who are so bitter about what Nintendo has become keep posting on forums like this day after day.  It's not like posting the same complaints over and over is going to change anything Nintendo does and it just makes virtually every conversation a big mess.  Personally, if I was so disenfranchised with Nintendo and had so little hope that they'd change, I'd find something better to spend my free time doing then rehashing the same worn out conversations.

Wow, that is a heck of a deal for anyone who got in on the K-Mart pre-order deal.   And just in general it's a great deal, looks like Nintendo is trying to make a strong push to move some consoles this summer.  Though the official site only mentions NSMB, Pikmin, Zelda, and Wii Party as potential free downloads.  I've almost bit on Pikmin a couple times so I think it'll be the game I go for.

On the other hand, the Mario Kart Wii U bundle is not that great of a deal, $330 a 32GB system, the game, a Wiimote plus, and a red racing wheel...considering how many deals there have been on the system and how badly Nintendo needs to move systems, keeping the price at the $300 price point seems like it would have been smart.

125
It probably is a lie, but it didn't really tell me much about the game either. I guess it's more something like NASCAR? Not so sure if I would be interested or not.

It's a simulator-type racing game which is a complete opposite to a game like Mario Kart.
I don't understand how Mario Kart can be the complete opposite of a simulator type racing game.  I don't know about you but my daily commute is filled with dodging banana peels, being hit by red shells, and being struck by lightning bolts.

In all seriousness the game looks like it could be good and any racing game on a Nintendo system that isn't a kart style game is a good thing.
