Nintendo should invest all of it's liquid assets into bitcoin (or dogecoin)

I know some of those usernames...

I meant to check the thread right before the vote closed, but I fell asleep.

Like, that was the plan. I knew whoever was mafia would switch, all I had to do was catch them.

Should've known it was Lolmonade since non-activity on the last days was beneficial to them.

Rats.

I was actually tempted to let it be a three-way tie and let everyone die, but figured that if I made it to the end, I had an obligation to at least try to squeak-out the win.  At first I thought maybe I could convince insanolord to vote with me against you, as you had more of an activity record than he did to suggest guilt against, but once it appeared you two colluded with each other, I thought I was finished.

I expected you to vote along with insanolord to vote against me, and thought I was completely screwed.  Once it was a three-way tie, I knew there was at least a small chance of stealing the game.

Khush had an uphill battle from day one, since Glad0s never showed up and I was basically useless throughout half the game because of my son sending himself to the hospital.  It was fortunate circumstance between the tie in day 4 and the last day shenanigans that I was able to carry the rest of the game home.

I want to register my protest now. Lolmonade changed his vote after 11:00, like the sneaky mafia bastard he is.

Shoot…I was hoping no-one would notice that…

For the record, I was logged-in on my phone at 10:58 PM, but I would cry foul at the NWR forum's pop-up ad banners added to mobile viewers, as I was mid-name change when I was suddenly re-directed to the home depot website, and had to start all over again.

I'm also now curious as to what will happen if all three of us are killed via a tie

Probably something like this:

Ugh , I can't post anymore until my computer starts letting me log-in.  These pop -up banner ads on my phone are miserable.

Ugh...my computer gives me an error message when I try to log on.  Having to post this via phone.

Nickmitch, you voting for Khush doesn't absolve you of possible suspicion, as my limited experience in this game has shown me he's a common early target.  Additionally, you caused the tie vote that took out two townies in one blow yesterday, causing this crapshoot situation .  Frankly, you suggesting Insanolord and I vote against each other "for the greater good" seems like a good way for a mafia to deflect suspicion.

I don't think insanolord is mafia, unless I'm misreading things .  Your actons are highly suspicious through this entire game, after reading through the prior days.  My choice is fairly clear

Vote Insanolord

Ok….since there’s complete radio silence, I’ll try to kick things off here.

Here’s the remaining players:

jrlibrarian
NWR_insanolord
PixelatedPixies
lolmonade
Nickmitch
Glad0s

Glad0s has remained inactive, and I have no clue how to read that.  It seems like regardless of what he is, he may be knocked-off if he doesn’t respond in the thread tonight.

Jrlibrarian & insanolord have barely played this game, only having voted once so far this game.  That level of inactivity is concerning to me, although insanolord I’ve noticed in the past has been lax in involvement in certain games.

I’m uncertain of Pixelated Pixies..active, but on day 2 helped kill-off Pokepal, which was one of our most useful weapons in the game.

Nickmitch…I can’t read your votes/actions, and uncertain of what to think.

I’m inclined to think lurking in the shadows is a way to try to lay-low....but given that no-one has bothered to post yet (Nickmitch snuck a post underneath me), I’m gonna have to go with my gut and vote Jrlibrarian.

Khush is arrogant and flaunting his power.  That rubs me the wrong way.  That coupled with Pokepal's comments from yesterday's thread make my choice clear.

I think it would be silly for Nintendo to go mobile-only.  That said, I think there are certain game series (Brain Age & Nintendogs come to mind) that I'm not sure people are willing to pay retail price for, and may be able to net a better profit if Nintendo had a willingness to release these types of games on smartphone/tablet platforms.

Hi all.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to play last night.  My son decided to jump out of his crib and break his wrist, sending us to the hospital for most of the night.  Tried to log-on from the hospital, but by the time I tried to, NWR's forums refused to recognize my password to log-in.

I'll have some free time tonight to play.  I'll reserve voting until I've had a chance to look over yesterday's votes.

If my wife saw me trying to log in at the hospital she would have killed me.  Family first…Family first…but at least if she tried to kill you, you were already at the hospital.

He was asleep in my arms as we were in the hospital waiting for someone to put a sling on….you always forget how much idle time you have at a hospital until you're forced to go to one.

TalkBack / Re: With Wii U's Failures, Nintendo Lacks a Fail-Safe
« on: January 21, 2014, 08:24:45 PM »
No matter at what angle you approach it, Nintendo's recent woes come out as egg on their face, if not worse, because it's one, if not a compilation of the following:

Miserable misreading of the market by the way they forecasted their projected sales through the fiscal year.

Horrible mistakes in conveying why you as a consumer need a Wii U.

Provide services through their consoles that are antiquated compared to their competition.

They're clearly living in a Wii-Success mindset, and I don't expect any significant improvements until I see more than admissions by Iwata that there's a problem.

I still haven't had the chance to do any real investigation.  I don't know if I want to pile-on to Pokepal though.  Vote Stratos for the time being while I gather my bearings and catch-up on yesterday's thread.

A likely story. Vote lolmonade.

Just kidding. I hope your son's feeling better.

Appreciate the well-wishes.  He's a tough little guy, and seems like he's more agitated from having a sling restricting him than anything.

Fortunately, I'll be able to join the fray tonight, assuming he doesn't decide he wants a matching right-wrist.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Cuts Wii U Sales Forecast
« on: January 19, 2014, 03:22:43 PM »
Who the hell is Nintendo paying to produce their forecasts?  I can't fathom why their projected sales numbers were so inflated.  They may not have known the Wii U would have failed so spectacularly this fiscal year, but nothing they've done this year has given any reason to believe they'd sell this high a number of consoles.

I can't begin to fathom how they dig themselves out of this hole with Wii U.  Certainly they can learn a lot of what the consumer base is clamoring for by simply looking at their competition.  I don't know whether this is a sign that Nintendo has finally had a cold bucket of water poured on their heads, or a sign that Iwata knows he's in serious danger of being ousted, and him admitting he may not be suitable to lead the company moving forward.

Not that I come from any point of authority on this subject, but a few of my thoughts:

 • Anyone thinking the name of the console is a primary problem for they system's sales is wrong.  It coupled with zero marketing could be argued for a case, but the name of the system isn't that big an issue, if the name "Xbox One" is any indication.
 • I'm not sure if they'll give up on the console outright, but anyone think they might abandon-ship on the Wii U gamepad? Separate it from the console itself, sell the console as a budget console ($250) with the pro controller, and offer the gamepad as a separate accessory?  That way they could follow-suit with Sony/Microsoft by having a dedicated tablet app for off-tv play & maybe still carve out a decent niche profit to tide them over until next release.
 • I think it's pretty clear the 3rd party ship has sailed.  I don't see Nintendo courting them back this generation, but maybe if they go the Sony route they can actively attract and cultivate the indie developers.

They'll balk when they see the Wii U numbers...

Wow...that went over my head the first time I read that.  Well done.

1892
They ask you like that because they have to. Hate the company, not the wage slave.

I understand it's the company policy.  I worked in retail, and hated that they rated me on how many credit card applications I could pull every month, even though I worked as a stock & display worker who only was at a register to help check-out a catalog order (people who 99% of the time already had a store CC).

That said, there's clearly something about an individual store's environment that can make those transactions either 1) tolerable, quick, & painless or 2) ongoing, frustratingly persistent, & almost antagonistic in approach.  And anecdotally, I personally won't go back to a Gamestop (or any store) that takes the car salesman approach to it (#2).

1893
I've found it's really contingent on which Gamestop you go to as to whether or not you have a good experience.  When I lived in Illinois, I had a litany of different small video game shops to choose from, and yet, every Gamestop I went to had garbage employees that didn't know anything about how to be a good customer service rep OR would force me to say no 3-4 times when asking if I wanted a "protection plan", Power-Up Rewards, or to pre-order games that there'll be dozens of copies of at any store not named Gamestop (or Target, lately).

Since moving to North Carolina, there's nothing but Gamestops & a similar chain called Play-N-Trade.  My local Gamestop has mostly kind, knowledgeable, and accomodating reps.  The ones in the malls are terrible, probably because they care more about taking care of the ridiculous amount of foot traffic they get.

You'd think the ones in IL would be forced to hire people that would make Gamestop the most approachable choice given all their competition, but just goes to show you a Gamestop is only as good as the people in that particular store.

PS+ has actually helped me curb my spending habits on games.  I've only purchased games I was actually interested in in the last year, because I figure "I'll get a good variety of games on my PS3 & Vita. as part of my PS+ subscription.

Now instead of owning 5 new games a month, I get them with PS+.  I may not "own" them, but I actually take the time to play them this way.  That, and I got to play what turned out to be one of the most fun games I've played in a while because of it (Hotline Miami).

I might have been older. I don't remember, I'm horrible with perception of time passed, especially when it comes to internet time.... and because the year just changed.

Me too, man…me too.  Still have trouble believing that's a real story!

This is an older story that was from sometime back in 2012, I don't remember if I posted it here or not before, but it is hilarious and it just resurfaced, so here it is again if I did.

That has to be older than 2012…I swear I read that as early as 2010.  What a ridiculous story.  Gotta love the drawings of himself with a huge ass & erection.

1) Smash Bros will have DLC, as stated by Adrock.  Specifically, they'll have purchasable characters, but not levels.  People will cry foul about how Nintendo withheld characters just to use for DLC.
I'm thinking the opposite. Stages and costumes, but not characters and only because they would have to do a lot more work, not because people would complain. I would have doubted Super Smash Bros. (or any Nintendo title for that matter) would ever have paid DLC until Nintendo finally popped that cherry. Super Smash Bros. is a total gold mine for this too. Even someone like myself who has never paid for DLC before would strongly consider it especially if there was a Season Pass.

I'm not suggesting they would have A LOT of DLC characters, but considering how substantive their other DLC offerings have been, I wouldn't put it past them to add more content of that type after the fact, if they could sell it at a good profit.

If I were to take a few stabs in the dark:

1) Smash Bros will have DLC, as stated by Adrock.  Specifically, they'll have purchasable characters, but not levels.  People will cry foul about how Nintendo withheld characters just to use for DLC.

2) Mario will be given a break from platforming games, and the only Mario centric announcement in 2014 will be a new Super Mario Strikers for Wii U & 3DS, & Possibly Mario Party U.

3) Because of the gap less Mario will have, 2014 will be the year of alternate franchise announcements for Wii U & 3DS.  By E3, expect an official Metroid & Zelda U announcement.  Additional dark-horse candidates for a new game would be Pikmin 3DS, Fire Emblem U, or Starfox.  These games when released will be critically successfull, but will be middling in retail sales.

4) Nintendo will have better sales in 2014, but only enough to make the Wii U a minor failure instead of a catastrophic one.

5) Nintendo will launch Gamecube virtual console for Wii U, with first titles being Eternal Darkness, Luigi's Mansion, & F-Zero GX.  Sorry, F-Zero fans, that's the only F-Zero title that'll be released for this console generation, unless:

6) Nintendo releases an e-shop exclusive F-Zero game for 3DS.  It'll be a bare-bones version of the game, with a similar feature set to the SNES original, including online multiplayer.  This'll be Nintendo's biggest foray into F2P yet, requiring additional purchases for new tracks & racers.

1899
I'm ok with the Wii U console design being understated/boring, personally.  It's simple, and doesn't stand out like a sore thumb.  My main gripe would be how the length of the console makes it a bit less travel friendly than the small, portable Wii was.

That, and I'll gladly pass on "cool" looking console designs if it functionally hurts the system like the PS4.  I've owned the PS4 for 4 days now, and honestly, as sleek as it looks, I'd trade that for a boring design that didn't make it a pain in the rear to plug anything into it.

AFAIK it's fairly easy to replace the HDD in a PS3 so you don't need to stick to the 60GB one just because you wanted PS2 BC.

I have no idea why games aimed at children like Tearaway (which is 30€ retail here, 25€ on the PSN store) are so easy, kids don't need coddling like that. As kids we couldn't afford a new game every week, we had to make do with them for months at a time so an easy game that you finish quickly is a terrible proposition. These days the mentality is that if you didn't beat a game you didn't really play it but back then getting part ways in, dying and being forced to start again was normal. You don't beat a game like Ghosts and Goblins or R-Type, you just keep trying. Hell, as kids we didn't even beat Super Mario Land or Sonic 1 (Master System) but that just meant there was more for us to experience there. Ad the games that did have saves to let us beat them had HUGE piles of content, games like Super Mario World or Donkey Kong. It's all 4 hour "tightly crafted" campaigns these days, not large world maps with literally a hundred levels. Yeah, they reused assets a lot, the same blocks appear in most Mario levels but there were still a hundred hand crafted levels in there that (most importantly) played differently.

Kids today are a product of their time - even if your parents don't let you own a console or dedicated handheld device, you have access to thousands of games if you or your parent has a mobile phone or tablet.

My nephew is a good example of this.  His mother got him a cheap HP tablet, and he does nothing but play mobile games.  The games that appeal to him either are ones that let him compete against others, which will match him with similarly skilled players, or ones that have little ramp-up in difficulty over time.

I'll always bring over my PS3 or Wii games to his place, and he couldn't play any of the NES/SNES Mario games more than an hour without getting frustrated/bored.  BUT, with my PS+ copy of Battlefield 3, even if he was playing several people better than him, he had a ton of fun messing around on the vehicles & riding around on the back of buggies shooting from the turrets.

I have trouble empathising with those who say current games are "too easy", because the difficult/challenging experiences are out there & plentiful.  There's nothing wrong with having additional choices so the market can encompass a larger potential userbase.
