It was easy to get SNES-level of support when a company had a near monopoly on an entire industry for the better part of 10 years. Anyone longing for a return to those glory days is out of touch with reality. While there are plenty things Nintendo can do better to improve third party support today, the kind of support people think Nintendo can just pull out of a hat is unrealistic. Sony and Microsoft do things Nintendo is unwilling or unable to do. It isn't wise for Nintendo to launch a $400 to $500 console. While Nintendo will pick up a dead or struggling project, it won't get into a bidding war. Nintendo would like 10 of those to potentially make a difference on its platform. I wouldn't blame any company for not wanting to take those odds. Sony and Microsoft regularly do; Nintendo won't. For better or worse, it lives (and dies) by its own output.

Probably all the more reason to believe the NX will only be one platform that'll be your home and mobile console.  Consolidates Nintendo's developer efforts into one platform so that worst case scenario, if NX is Wii U-2, Nintendo can at least keep a steady stream of gaming in absence of 3rd parties.

Unlikely, as nintendo wouldn't put all their eggs in one basket.

There will be a home console and a handheld,  mark my word.

They will be two completely devices with compatible os's.

If so, I will likely sit NX out until end of life cycle.  I don't have confidence Nintendo has the developer bandwidth to maintain two separate devices anymore, and my appetite for Japanese-centric gameplay has waned over the last console generation.

That said, enough of the walls of text, people.  I look here to see if anyone has scooped up any hot NX news, not to see the same stupid arguments rehashed over and over.

Been on a used game tear over the last couple of weeks while my gaming stuff besides the PS4 has been in storage waiting to be delivered to my new home.

Rhythm Heaven Fever - $7
Super Mario Galaxy 1 - $6
Super Mario Galaxy 2 - $8
Ergheiz: God Bless The Ring - $10
Super OffRoad (SNES) - $5
The Lion King (SNES) - $7

Never played a Rhythm Heaven game before, I assume Fever is a decent point of entry?

Rocket league, rocket league, and more rocket league.  Partially because I'm working on getting the old lady aesthetic out of the house I bought and have limited time.  But I've gotten more play out of something I got for free through PS+ than I have in so many games for a long time.

Their wont be a season2 it finished nicely and with the big choice at the end... to hard to make.

There's definitely going to be a Life is Strange 2, it's just that they're going to do the smart thing and start with a new cast of characters.

Conversely, the reason why I DON'T want Lego City: Undercover is because to me, the retroactives are the best opportunity to spur discussion about games that have had enough time passed to where it's a good revisit

Yeah, I think I would agree with that. But I also think it is such a good game that it should be talked about anyway.

wait, Lemonade and lolmonade are not the same person?  :Q :Q :Q

No, Lemonade is an imposter, I'm OG.

Its a coincidence. I didnt notice your very similar username until I had already joined.
Usually I use the name Lvaneede, but I think Lemonade is less confusing of a name.

I'm being silly, please don't take my comment seriously  :D .  I found it funny when I first saw your username pop-up on the forums.

And I'll play Lego City: Undercover with the retroactive if just because it's out there and Cheap to obtain a copy, I'm just stating my preference for more flawed games.  Based on my limited memory of the game, I think my worst grievances were bad load times and a kind of empty world.  Otherwise, I think it was a goofy, fun open-world lego game with humor that's so bad it's funny.

... but I would have been more interested to discuss with others Hulk: Ultimate Destruction ...

As someone who is a huge fan of the game, I don't want Ultimate Destruction to win the poll. Everyone should play it if given the chance because the controls are solid and it "just feels right" for a superhero game that empowers you with (mostly) smooth movement and incredible strength... but I really don't feel like there is a lot of good discussion to come out of that game.

The combo system is pretty deep, so maybe you could do a deep dive on playing strategy - but that's not really podcast fodder. Maybe you'd compare it to other superhero games, or try to dissect the movement controls and verticality that make it feel so good when playing?

It really is a great game, just not one I have a lot to say about.

Good to know.  I've been on the hunt for a cheap Gamecube, i'll make sure and pick it up then with it when I stumble upon one.  Thanks!

I mean, I'm sure there'll be something worthwhile to discuss about the game, and it's at least readily available for cheap, but I would have been more interested to discuss with others Hulk: Ultimate Destruction or GTA: Chinatown Wars, which seem like games that not many here have already played and likely have some flaws that would give the game and discussion of more character.  Even Bully would have been good opportunity to play through and compare/contrast a Rockstar Game that at face value appeared to be "GTA School".

This game did a great job making me as a middle aged man care about the characters which were primarily teenage girls.  It also does a great job of making the scenery and location interesting due to the interactions you have as those characters.  The dialogue is a bit cringey sometimes, but in context it makes sense, because teenagers say some cringey things.

I'm definitely eager to see where they go with Season 2.  Hopefully with new characters and setting.

I don't know where you all reside, but in Western Illinois, we have data caps on our internet, and you have to pay a pretty penny to get to an internet tier where you have more than 15 mbps and a 250 GB cap before having additional charges.  That cap isn't much when factoring in video streaming and digital game libraries, because when I lived in NC, Time Warner didn't have a data cap but let you view your usage, and in colder months we easily hit 500+.

I don't think most users are at the "all digital future" until at least the above issue is solved.

Another question - Regarding kids' expectations to have everything installed on the device - I think kids can and still do differentiate well enough on expectations between something like a phone and video game system.  Also, when Christmas comes up, what's going to be exciting about giving your child a box and having it opened to show a download code, or just a note saying that "Mario NX" is already installed for them!".  Kids are enamored with the physical, tangible in equal, but different ways.

I'm not excited about the lackluster internal memory size based on the Rumors, but if my Wii U is any indication, I wouldn't want to purchase full retail games digitally on my Nintendo console, anyway.

Hope I get in before the lamentations/frustrations on not being able to share levels online.

That... is a major reduction even when considering portable versions of console games have been lesser versions in the pass. I wonder what the issue is. Is it a Nintendo Network issue or an arbitrary executive decision. The video of it went by so fast, but I got the impression you can download levels and access Course World of the Wii U version.

Not to be the one that starts the hate train.....

But I think in a prior thread, I pined for something literally the opposite of this - unconcerned with being able to make levels in the game, maybe an inexpensive ($10?) download-only title that would simply allow you to download and play levels the Wii U (and in future NX?) creators made.

That said, I suppose this will work well for those who have several friends with 3DS and would be interested in simply sharing and playing each other's levels.

As a parent of two small boys, Teen Titans Go is probably my favorite thing to watch with them.  I'm not sure if Lucario's gripes are because it's not story driven like the early 2000's version was, or the zany nature of the current show doesn't jive with a lot of DC's other properties, but most of the episodes I've seen have been fun, silly stories.  There have even been a few episodes I've seen that have made a point to be self-deprecating, such as one where they make a point to be "super serious", changing their animation style to look all bulky and brooding while fighting crime, and one which covers the topic of cartoon violence, and the characters playing in different animation styles to match loony-tunes, and old anime to gauge what makes violence "acceptable".

If you're looking for a short, silly cartoon with a superhero premise, can't do much better than this show.  Reminds me of old Powerpuff Girls episodes in the good ways.

Lego City Undercover is older than TWEWY was when that game got its retroactive which makes it worth considering, especially now that it's been re-released as a Nintendo Selects title.

This is a solid recommendation - load times are bad, but the rest of the game is pretty good.

I was going to recommend Toki Tori 2+ on Wii U eShop, but feel like much of the RFN crew have already played that game and remember them talking about it.  Open world puzzle games seem relatively uncommon though, and while this game was a bit dense at times it was very well made.

I kind of bet Lego City: Undercover would be the run-away winner in a retroactive poll for open world games, and the price makes it something most here could scoop up relatively easily.  I think the conversation will easily devolve into comparisons between this & GTA though, as it's basically a goofy, kid-friendly lego themed GTA game with a collectable focus.

It's funny, truly "Open world" games for Nintendo consoles, I'm coming up blank, with exception to Spiderman 2 on the gamecube, which i'd be happy to find an excuse to play again.

Simpsons Hit and Run?

I think there's a lot of good games, only problem is I own the half of those that I really cared about having, so it's kinda a moot point.

And I find the discount codes lame.  Just ask for a higher pay tier to get those games included.

The maturity of video game storytelling is something that's been on my mind for a while now.  I can remember when "mature" game meant more Mortal Kombat spilling blood and guts on Genesis more so than a video game covering mature and complex themes in storytelling.

I'm largely in agreement with James regarding how the maturity of the video game industry is what'll eventually propel game storytelling to be more nuanced, complex, and intelligent with character/story progression.  My perception is that the industry is in a bit of "puberty" stage in how it's able to balance gameplay and story and do both well.  My most cherished story experiences have been mostly games where looking back, either there was barely anything constituting gameplay (Telltale games, YES HEAVY RAIN JAMES JONES), there was a specific hook that subverted expectations and changed perception of your motivations (Bioshock), or games where the story is essentially what happens around you as a character in the game, and you're placed as the silent protagonist (Chrono Trigger, Legend of Zelda).  Most of my teenage fondest story memories, while I still get nostalgic about, are wrought with juvenile themes or tropes like amnesiac protagonist (Final Fantasty VII).

Conversely, something like Battlefield doesn't even pretend to have a mature premise outside of violence.  They like the Action movie genre are about the spectacle and experience of being in the action without having a moral imperative towards if something happens to a character in the game.  In a lot of ways, this dehumanizes any avatar on the screen.

This might get some groans, but the best example of a game series that got anywhere close to having engaging gameplay tagged with a thoughtful, multilayered story and themes is Metal Gear Solid.  Yes Kojima is way too out there with the ridiculous flow chart you need to keep in order to keep track of relations and events, and YES, there's this ridiculous gap between the world that's supposed to be "realistic" and the characters that are larger than life.  That said, it's clear the teams making those games had story intent, the characters had their own individual motivations that for the most part drove the actions they take, and the story dealt heavily in consequences of the past actions that many, many other military based games don't tackle.

I don't know what the solution is, or if there's even a solution to be had.  I'm not even confident James assertion that we'll get to that maturity point that the movie industry has gotten to, because as mentioned, even that industry has a lot of DUMB, or heavy-handed attempts at being "deep".  That said, going to the actual topic of the E3 presentations,  I'm inclined to think even if EA could have pulled the plug on their conference out of "respect" to the victims of the Orlando shooting, it would have been largely catering to a vocal minority of gaming outlets and people who likely aren't even directly impacted by those events, and would have been not much more than self-serving.
