Cutting room floor is a very reputable source and have leaked other unannounced features such as 8 player smash, master orders/crazy orders, the dlc shop and new remixes of Mario Paint & Nintendo Land.

As I re-read my post, I see how I may not have been clear by my meaning. I wasn't suggesting the data wasn't really found in the game, just that it was a joke purposly left by the programmers to troll data miners and definitely NOT legit character data. The facts are pretty overwhelming--  the music files are too conveniently placed as they serve no other purpose than to confirm who the names are. Plus, why make Roy a full fighter when simply adding him as a Mii costume is far more logical?

102
I'm amazed how many people still think the Roy/Ryu thing is legit. Sure, Ryu could be believed as a possible fighter... but Roy? Use some critical thinking people-- they already have another character named Roy, already have a direct clone of Marth, and Roy's game is now 14-years old and a pretty obscure part of the FE canon. The most I could imagine actually happening would be a Roy Mii costume-- Roy as full character is too impractical to happen. There's no doubt in mind that the data was a joke. Especially when you keep in mind the all too convenient fact that the none of the included music files are of new renditions-- just direct rips from SF2 (one of which was a stage theme which doesn't even make sense to be grouped with character data) and a duplicate of the FE victory theme-- just enough information to make it 100% clear to whom these characters' names were meant to refer to-- that just screams "hoax" to me. If anything, I'm thinking they're being planned as Mii costumes, and this data is just their clever way of teasing it.

Ha ha ha. I think the costumes for Amiibo's is another way to get fans off Sakurai's back by sort of having other playable characters that he doesn't want to create.

Did I miss some announcement about costumes being added through Amiibo figures, or did you just mean "Miis" instead?

While I'd love to have Wolf back, this is hardly a confirmation. I figured the choice to include Lucas was because Mother only has one representative, and Fox already has a "clone."
I have to agree. Plus, there have been a number of indications that Lucas had been planned for a good while, but got cut late in development. If so, much of his programming was likely complete enough to make him easy to re-add. Remember, when Mewtwo was first announced six months ago, Sakurai said he wasn't planning anymore downloadable characters... So, Lucas apparently wasn't being worked on this whole time the way Mewtwo was, he's just being added now because he was largely completed from before getting cut.

With Wolf already being a second clone, he was most likely cut from the start. If he does return, it'll likely be the result of fans voting for him, and he'll be made from scratch... If so, I REALLY hope they use his Starfox 64 design (where he has the eyepatch) and not that horrible one from Assault that they used in Brawl.

Are you sure? I may not have a Wii U myself, but I could have sworn those were Wii U-specific ports...

Why do Super Mario Galaxy and Punch-Out!! have "(Wii)" next to them? Unless Nintendo is physically shipping out Wii discs of those games (which would make absolutely no sense considering they both have new downloadable Wii U-specific versions), that's inaccurate and needlessly confusing.

107
I dunno... Jumping to the conclusion that the Zelda series was just someone's pipe dream hardly seems like a fair assumption considering both Iwata's choice of words, and how long he waiting before finally commenting. I remain fairly certain there's at least SOME shred of truth to this.

To avoid confusion, when they do release the standard New 3DS here it's going to be called the New 3DS XL Micro.
No, no, no... that's too confusing. They'll have to go with "New 3DS XL Pocket Lite SP".

You guys really need to update the headline, because he didn't directly say the smaller model wasn't coming, just that the customizable face plates weren't. The part about the core audience really wouldn't make sense about the smaller system itself since the core audience is statisticly more drawn to the XL anyway.

If the idea is to keep it less complicated for the consumer, why keep "XL" in the name if you're not going to also have an non-XL version, like that's not going to confuse people? If you look at the quote, he's actually talking about the FACE PLATES not coming here, not necessarily the smaller system itself. So, I'm still confident it WILL be here by year's end-- they just won't be selling the alternate face plates for it.

When Nintendo said before that 3DS's maturation isn't as far along in all markets, they made it sound like it wouldn't be ready here for a whole other year... of course, they couldn't get away with waiting that long, so the way I see it, they had to appease the hardcore fans by giving the XL an early release in limited numbers (try looking for them, in stores they're already sold out everywhere), and without an AC adapter because the hardcore fans would already have them. The full release will happen later and in the year along with the standard model which WILL include the AC adapter. Mark my words.

I actually knew it was a fake simply by where Mewtwo was placed. Along side the other Pokemon seems like the logical choice, until you consider Dark Pit, Lucina, and Dr. Mario aren't along side their franchise members. So, Mewtwo should be side along them instead.

I think another thing to keep in mind, is how it gets marketed. You mentioned your thoughts of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. being a superhero show without superheroes, yet was it ever supposed to be about superheroes? The Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. comics from which the series was inspired certainly wasn't. It was always focused on spies who operated in a world with superheroes in it. The real issue was never the lack superheroes, it was the lack of Nick Fury. However ABC marketed as it "continuing the events that started in The Avengers" with images of Thor's hammer and Cap's shield, which may have been a bit misleading. So, how Netflix markets this is something we should keep an eye on.

My main concern over such a series, isn't about Link at all. What really concerns me is whether it'll be a fair representation of the franchise as a whole, or will it just try to play it safe by hiding in Ocarina of Time's shadow. Doing the latter has been seriously holding the franchise back, although they seem to be moving in the right direction in more recent games, I fear an outside production company will want to take the easy route and automatically stray back into OoT territory, which will only end bad since that's already been done to death.

While I definitely agree a Zeldashow would probably not centered around Link, I really don't think with a series entirely without him would work. I think they ought to go more along the lines of the Transformers movies, where the focus is on those caught in the middle, with the heroes being more in the background but yet driving the main plot.
*should probably not be centered

TalkBack / Re: New Nintendo 3DS XL Review

There's no data plan subsidation. I'm not even sure they still sell the 3G model, which wasn't subsidized, and most of the ones ever sold had no cellular data ability.
If that's true, then my bad. But at the very least, Sony subsidizes the hardware cost itself and in order to make the money back on game licensing. Of course, Nintendo doesn't do that and we all know it.

Anyways, my initial point is still valid, because when I first read the review, his complaint made me reconsider buying one since he made sound like the graphics would be pixelated and distorted. Upon seeing it in person, there's no such issue and his complaint was merely nitpicking over something mundane that most readers would never have an issue with.

With all due respect, parts of this review are definitely flawed.

Granted, unlike Aaron, I haven't spent any extended time with the new hardware... In fact, I've only spend less than 10 minutes with a floor model at Best Buy, but that was still enough time to tell that his over-sized pixel complaint has absolutely no validity whatsoever.

Sure, it IS true that you can see the individual pixels (if you look for them), however it's inconsequential since there's no blockiness or loss of visual quality. In fact, from what I can tell, it seems identical to the regular 3DS XL (as it logically should be since they have the same graphical specifications). Aaron seems to be basing his assessment by unfairly comparing the screen to those of the same size on today's smartphones... Of course, those devices' graphical specifications are far beyond that of the 3DS, and should be since without the subsidization that goes along with their monthly phone service plans, their hardware runs around the $800 range. So, expecting a dedicated gaming device with a mere $200 price tag to have comparable screen resolution isn't rational.

I can't comment on Aaron's other complaints, but I did notice an improvement he failed to mention-- the volume control is now on the top screen where your hand can't easily bump it like on previous models.

TalkBack / Re: The Baffling Launch Plans of New 3DS in America

almost no one has extra AC adapters laying around but I'm sure there are plenty of people who either upgraded the smaller card that came with the original 3DS and have no use for a 4gb card
You're overlooking who early buyers of new hardware typically are. Those most like to buy the New 3DS XL right away are also those who upgrade to new models regularly and very likely WILL have extra ones lying around. As I've pointed out before, since they're keeping the "XL" in the name, they're almost certainly intend to release the standard model too later on. Since the XL is both pricier and the clear choice among core fans willing to more money on extra frills, the standard model will naturally appeal more for the casual crowd. That being said they'll want to keep the standard model cheap as possible which will be difficult to do if they have to include AC adapters (which the casual crowd is far less likely to have). This delay is probably to help them to see the public's reaction to the lack of AC adapters for the XL model first so they can better decide whether it's worth including or not. The only truly baffling move here is why Nintendo isn't simply including USB chargers instead, as that would easily solve this issue.

The very fact that it still has the "XL" in its name is a pretty strong indicator that the standard model is still planned. If I had to guess, I'd say NoA is testing the local reaction to the lack of AC adapter with the XL model to determine whether or not to include it in the standard package.

I think the fact that they're still branding it with "XL", seems like a pretty strong indication that NOA plans to release the standard model eventually. "No plans at this time" is exactly what they said about releasing the New 3DS entirelyl just a few months ago. Obviously, it was always going to come eventually. "No plans at this time" simply means they're not ready to make an announcement. They probably realize the XL will be far more in demand at launch, and those more likely to buy the cheaper model will be the more casual type who are less likely to be early adopters anyways.

TalkBack / Re: Hyrule Warriors Almost Featured Playable Tingle
« on: January 11, 2015, 05:59:49 PM »
I'm saying had Sakurai been directing Hyrule Warriors he would have made Tingle playable and given him a badass move set because why the hell not? This is a spinoff game meant to pile on as much fan service as possible. I'm almost certain 154% of the fanbase agrees with me.
If Sakurai didn't make him playable in SSB, I don't know why you'd assume he'd make him playable in HW. And yes, HW was meant to pile on as much fan service as possible... to ZELDA fans. With at least 65% of Zelda fans despising Tingle, including him would be a DISservice to them. There's a reason Nintendo stopped putting him in Zelda games and gave him his own stand-alone franchise instead-- he's too divisive to Zelda fans in general, and Nintendo recognizes it. He's never going to appear in a new Zelda game again (unless it's something minor like the Tingle doll in Skyward Sword), you'd better learn to accept that.

Sakurai gets it. Aonuma doesn't.

Real hardcore Zelda fans love Tingle. End of story.
I'm not sure what world you're living in since Sakurai didn't make Tingle playable in SSB either-- clearly, they BOTH get it. He may be beloved by some, but Tingle is absolutely despised by North American Zelda fans which are probably at least 65% of the fan base. They know they'd be needlessly alienating a lot more than they'd be appeasing, so they made the right choice.

MEWTWO?!?!

Yeah! Heck, double heck, triple heck yeah!

This is going to keep the Ridley rumours going with one of the leaked DLC characters now be confirmed to be true. I love it. Smash Bros. rumours will never die now. There'll always be DLC hope.
Um,  I thought the "leaked" DLC characters were Wolf, Lucas, Ice Climbers,  Chorus Kids, and Snake. Neither Mewtwo nor Ridley among them unless I missed something.
