Pfft. Easy.

Yuu Yuu Hakusho Gaiden. Or, if you like, Yuu Yuu Hakusho Makyo Toitsusen. Either way, it ends in "n".

Nintendo Gaming / RE: SD Card Adapter?

In fact, unless the game was specifically written to recognize the SD card, it won't see it.

For backing up game saves, many importers carry USB to memory card adapters. They usually run around $50. Yes, it sucks that you can't use SD cards as memory cards but think about it for sec. With a 64MB SD card, you'd never need to buy a memory card again. That's eight times the storage space for around $40 plus the cost of the adapter. The only money Nintendo would get would be off of the adapter. They'd be shooting themselves in the foot by letting you save any and everything to the SD cards.

i could be considered a vegetarian, and i have a high metabolism, so i have pretty much zero fat, not that that's particularly healthy, but it is what it is. i also drink like a gallon of water a day.

I might go and buy a bottle of Gin and some Sprite Ice later on though.

Again with the gin and Sprite! No more alcohol for me until i get a job, or find a bum carrying a briefcase filled with millions in unmarked bills. Besides, i'm happy drinking obscene amounts of water. Keeps you full (good when you're poor because you don't eat so much) and it keeps muscles hydrated (good for working out).

"Cannabinol" sounds a lot like cannabis sativa (i don't feel like checking the spelling...), the scientific name for marijuana if my memory holds true.

The 20-90 days estimate depends largely on your your fat level and metabolism. A lot of toxins like THC, nicotine, even pollutants you breathe in the air are stored in your body's fat. It's one of the reasons why people who stop smoking get the urge to smoke -- because the nicotine is still in their fat, slowly being released. i think the estimate is something like a day or two (that it stays in your body) for every percent body fat you have. Also, if you have a high metabolism, it'll get burned outta your system faster. i've got both a high metabolism and low body fat, so stuff gets flushed outta me pretty quickly, although the worst i do is an occasional cigarette.

i've heard of a THC level calculator program somewhere on the web if you're really paranoid and need some pseudo-arbitrary numbers. My advice would be to stay clean, excercise, and drink plenty of water (at least 2 quarts a day).  Unless you're at the wrong end (fat and low metabolism) of the scale, you should be fine by then.

Oh, and congrats on the job -- wish i could say the same. As long as i don't have to auction off my unopened copy of Steel Battalion, i'll be okay.

General Chat / RE: Favorite freeware

Which linux are you into? Lately I have been messing with slackware linux and it is pretty damn good.

Actually, i'm not using Linux at the moment. i haven't used Linux consistantly for a couple of years. i've had a need to run Adobe and Macromedia programs and it just didn't make sense to have it on my box when i knew it would only use it to tinker with. But now that i've got the time (and a second machine), i'll use it alongside my XP machine. Eventually, the Linux box will be a firewall/file server. i still haven't decided which distro to use, but i'm leaning towards Mandrake or SuSE. i'll give Slackware a try though.

i'm looking for two pieces of freeware. If anyone knows of anything that might fit the bill, please name it (and link if you can) and i'll Google it up. i'll even take a Linux release; there's always a chance that a Windows port is in the works.

First is a CD cataloging program. It needs to catalog contents of CDs (file listings at least), read contents of ZIP files as well as ID3 tags, and save/export database to HTML or XML

Second is a video or audio editiing program that can display stereo waveforms. i have some old videos that are in stereo, but the stereo separation's not too great, and i'd like to glance and see which ones i could convert to mono without much loss. AFAIK, Virtual/Nandub doesn't have any plugins to do this by default.

There were several GB Player ads during Top Model; a couple of times there were two consecutive ads. i also saw the Wario World commercial earlier today.

i've yet to see F-Zero or Star Wars, but i'm glad to hear them show them off now. Hopefully they follow through and continue after the games' release.

General Chat / Favorite freeware
« on: June 23, 2003, 08:03:38 PM »
i posted this thread on another site and i think it would be useful here as well.

Freeware is usually devoid of the glutton brought on by commerical apps, and is often written by an individual who saw a need for a program and wrote it themselves. Several times i've tossed a few dollars to the programmer if i liked the program. Below is my list of favorite freeware. Linux aside, everything should run on Windows 98 or later.

Linux -- The most popular alternative OS, with worldwide support and a massive library of free software. Learning curve is a bit steep for many.
OpenOffice -- Microsoft Office replacement; works very similarly. Saves to an XML-format by default, but is directly compatible with most versions of Office apps.
Winamp 2.9x -- The most widely-supported MP3 player ever -- it plays just about every format known to man. Does it even need an introduction?
Zonealarm -- a free, easy-to-use, software firewall. Essential for anyone connected to the internet.
Firebird -- Lightning-fast browser; still in beta (try Mozilla for a more stable alternative.)
Irfanview -- The Winamp of image viewers; has some limited image editing features as well.
Spybot-S&D/Ad-Aware -- both remove spyware/adware, SSB does a bit more and removes more than AA.
UltimateZip -- Winzip replacement; works almost exactly the same. Built-in RAR support.
Burnatonce -- Simple but effective program used to burn CDR/RWs. Works very well with BIN/CUE/ISOs and supports overburning.
Wallpaper Changer -- Supports BMP/JPG/GIF/PNG, smart resizing, and a few other nifty features. The best wallpaper changer i've ever used.
Zoom Player Standard -- Plays more formats than Windows Media Player, loads faster. BS Player is another good alternative.
Y'z Dock/Mobydock/Objectdock -- PC clones of the Mac OSX dock. Mobydock and Objectdock do more, but Y'z Dock runs better on more machines. All are XP only.
X-Fonter -- Quickly preview fonts, compare them, print out sample sheets, etc. An indispensible tool for designers.
Trillian -- AIM/MSN/ICQ/Yahoo/IRC all in one client.
SharpE -- Replaces the Windows shell; good for when you want a new look for Windows. Make sure to read the docs before installing if you've never installed a shell before.

These are programs i either use frequently, or have used frequently in the past. There's a few others programs i've started using that i may add to the list if they're up to par. Please feel free to add you own, with a short synopsis of the program. If it requires anything outside of Windows 98/XP, please note it in your synopsis.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Gamecubes Graphics
« on: June 23, 2003, 05:06:27 PM »
Project Gotham Racer 2 comepetes with it quite well actually. There's a difference in styles; GT4 pushing photorealism envelope and PGR2 pushing the CG realism (or whatever you call "supershiny cars that could never exist in real life" envelope, but it's right up there with GT4.

PS2 could debatably push more polygons than the GC, but the GC can texture them much better. Xbox can use shaders and effects like bump mapping much easier than the other two, although it's a bit wasteful in graphics processing, whereas the GC's components are harmoniously matched. Add in things like surround sound, and the gap between the system widens. i forget the specifics as i've shyed away from specs, but i think when it comes to in-game graphical performance, there's a definite system hierarchy.

They recently had a change in CEOs, and those are the comments from the new CEO, Rod Cousens. Seems to be the classic case of bringing in new management to fix the problems of the old.

They were decent back in the early N64 days. Then what happened? Apparently there was some merger between some companies and when Turok: Rage Wars and South Park came out, they began to suck horribly.

If i remember correctly, Iguana (devs for the first two Turoks) got bought out by Acclaim and became Acclaim Studios Austin. Quality control became less important than releasing games in a timely fashion and... fast forward to today. On the other side of things, members of the original Wipeout team joined Acclaim Studios Cheltenham, and the Extreme G series was reborn in XG3.

Acclaim was only the publisher for Crazy Taxi, Hitmaker is the developer. Burnout 2 was just released, and it's great.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Why no Dancing for cube fans?
« on: June 23, 2003, 01:35:42 AM »
As far as i can remember, Namco doesn't have a dance or even a music game. However, in the US, Namco arcades carry DDR machines, and there's a DDR locator on their arcade site. No need to bite the hand that feeds them i guess.

i'm thinking the established Live! userbase had something to do with DDR being on Xbox.

Turok, All-Star Baseball, Burnout, and maybe Extreme G are all popular series that help to round out the GC's library. After ASB is gone, will there even be any baseball games on Cube? i was glad to see 3D0 go as their releases had gotten stale, but Acclaim seemed to be picking up in some areas.

Actually, I was kind of looking forward to playing XGRA.

i believe XGRA is still on track. It better be, or else i may have another reason to pick up a second system.

Hehe, actually i was referring to drinks of all kinds. At the time i was thinking of coffee. i'm looking for a cheap brand of coffee to brew in my French press. i've got enough beans to make one last cup of my favorite Italian blend (Caffe Darte's Meaning of Life blend), but it's too expensive to buy any more. i can be really picky when it comes to coffee, and finding a fair substitute for this particular blend in a supermarket will be a bit difficult. A French press can bring out the flavor and body of a good coffee, or expose the weaknesses of a bad one.

Alcohol-wise, i've been drinking Black & Tan (Michelob) lately. i discovered it on one of my mandatory jaunts to Walmart. i'm used to spending $7-$10 for a six-pack, so beer for just over four bucks came as a surprise. i'm not very well versed in beers, but using beers like Yuengling's Black and Tan and Guinness Extra Stout as a ruler, i'd say it lacks the depth of flavor and body of those two, but maintains a good flavor for a beer that's half the price.

Mostly, i've been drinking water. i drink almost a gallon a day, filtered with the new Brita filter they show on tv with the digital indicator. The indicator is really just a simple countdown timer with something like four bars on it. It loses a bar every two weeks, and after two months, you're supposed to replace the filter.

Ack, too many pie freaks here. Outside of the occasional urge i don't really have a sweet tooth anymore. i'd rather be satisfied on salty food than eat sweet food.

Now drinks, well, that's a completely different story.
