Nintendo Gaming / RE:The goodness that is Metroid Zero Mission
« on: February 14, 2004, 08:50:12 AM »
I love zero missions, its the 3rd best game in the series for me (behind prime and super, which both rank up within my top 10 games of all time)
I'm a gigantic metroid fan, so that might have a little something to do with it.

i went through it on normal first.. 3:30 78%
then i managed to beat it on hard last night 100% 4:15
On hard, each energy tank is only +50 max energy, every missile pack is +2 missiles, super missile/powerbombs are +1 each, you do less damage and you still take double... makes a few areas of the game amazingly difficult.... but sadly, not enough.

some of those endings are going to be insane to get (under 15%? O_O)
but, i'll try for them anyway, cause i know i'll play through this game probably over 20 times without a doubt.  (I've been through fusion far more than i should have)

i do have some issues with the game, but not many.. the large portion of them revolve around how i feel the world map is FAR too *cramped* i prefered the (seemingly)huge, sprawling maps of metroid, metroid 2, and Super Metroid, perhaps its just becuase this game seems to have every single room with a purpose that it seems cramped.  Also there are far less super missiles and powerbombs to pick up, so 100% though still difficult, wasn't nearly as long and exploration based as it should have been.

Anyway, R&D1 has definately got the feel of what a metroid should be.   This metroid controls the best out of every metroid game ever, and if they could apply some of the newer controls along with a few more tweaks in level design, they could be well on their way of making a metroid game superior to Super Metroid....

TalkBack / RE: Burnout 3 Swerves to Miss GameCube
« on: February 10, 2004, 10:20:37 AM »
im being optimistic here, and i mean heavily optimistic.
burnout 2 wasn't announced for Xbox right off, and they got the "devolopers cut" edition of the game, which basicily just had some very pretty extras... (mainly more crash mode courses!)
Ive heard that burnout Has sold well on gamecube (hell, i own burnout 2, awesome game) so, we might end up with a "Directors Cut" edition of the game.

but, thats being optimistic.
I want the game though, its looking amazingly pretty.. i just wish the cars were "lighter"

I've also had mine since launch (litereally, i was 14th in line) and nothings gone wrong with it at all but the "open" cover is a little sticky somtimes, but not often.

I'm kinda curious to know what your doing to your cube that would cause it to die on you.

TalkBack / RE: Prince of Persia Sequel Planned
« on: February 04, 2004, 05:55:04 PM »
I was just saying a few days ago about how bummed I was the sales were bad, and how that meant were not going to get a sequel.
I'm glad I was wrong, PoP was one of the most enjoyable videogaming sessions I've had in a while, now if they could only do something about the combat... and perhaps made it harder....

Just out of curiosity, I already have the game preordered (for a second GBA-GC link) And Me and my friends are currently planning *2* parties to go out and race to the end. (each one consisting of 4 people...2 games, etc.)
Judging from what I've heard, the game isn't quick enough to beat in one sitting, so we'll see how that goes (or if its even possible)

But, anyway.
Those GBA-GC link cables are pretty short, there wasn't any issue with them tangling, getting yanked out, etc. when you were doing multiplayer was there?

If you've played Secret of Mana, how is the combat system in relation to it?  This game is sounding much much more like Seiken Dentetsu (Typo) the more I hear about it. (hell, even mana trees) and I'm just wondering how much of the combat is taken from it.

Lastly:
I know there are 4 character classes, is there any benefit to *not* have each person be a unique class? monsters resistant to phys attacks, resistant to spells etc?

I heard that the GBA astro boy was being made by treasure...I think from IGN.

Has this been changed? I don't see a single mention of Treasure in that press release.

it was only 10$ at bestbuy for a very long time...

it appears to have completely dissapeared on the website though, also very odd...

odd odd odd.

but, awesome game, i love the thing.... i don't regret paying full price for it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Harvest Moon: FOMT
« on: January 17, 2004, 11:43:28 AM »
I love harvest moon FOMT, and ive wasted far too much time on it already (3rd summer) great game, very addictive.  I got lucky and found it at a gamestop.

I'm very curious what the GBA/GC link is, and also what the added american extras for the GC game are...

but, anyway, great game, but i still prefer harvest moon 64's smaller map...
though this game is much deeper.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Will there be a Golden sun 3???
« on: January 17, 2004, 11:38:53 AM »
The Ending of GoldenSun 2 has one of the best plot twists I've ever seen, and therefore because of it, the 3rd game (which im betting will be made, without a doubt) will most likely be in a far differently shaped world than the first 2.

I also can't wait... I enjoyed both games to the point of playing them roughly 20 hours after they were finished to find the last items, all the djinn, etc. and I can't wait to see what the third game will entitle.

sadly, its still a long ways off... and i really haven't heard of camelot doing anything since then except for the Mario Golf/Tennis gamecube games...

wow that looks pretty....

i've also noticed an absurd amount of things that werent in the original game, which was a gigantic game in itself... combineed with the much larger enemies, if they do this correctly, it could be on-par with Super Metroid, and that in itself is pure gaming bliss.

im getting ahead of myself though.. (i hope not)

« on: November 12, 2003, 06:19:30 PM »
I've been hearing this guy b**** about it in the #metroid chat for..about 3 month's now,  I stopped paying attention to it, because I was in a state of denial.  Then HE ACTUALLY DID IT.  I've been watching those videos, WOW, those things are amazing, it makes me want to go and play prime multiple times, just so i can get some of the skills he uses like nothing down.
-If it makes you feel better, a few of those videos he had to do over 50 runs just to get them right, so It REALLY DID take skill, the final version just makes you go "WOW" though.

Watch them if you have bandwith, its definately worth it.

The saving thing actually ADDED time to his scores, think about it.. its maybe 5 seconds in/5 seconds out, and I've seen about 2 minutes worth of mistakes so far.  I belive this is possible under 1:30 if your a god.

...stupid japanese and pokemon crystal that already can go online >_>

I don't know why it would be difficult to plug the GBA into a USB port with a certain connecter, then find a way to choose someone else online, then hit connect, it will connect both systems, get a constant stream going, and then you would be playing online, even though you couldn't really talk to the person.  Things like 4 swords would be pointless without the cussing, yelling, and all around trashtalking though.
(THAT WAS MY F**** RUPEE YOU A** NOW GET OVER HERE AND PUSH THIS BLOCK BEFORE I.....)

mmm... memories.

General Chat / RE: Japanese DVDs
« on: October 26, 2003, 03:29:36 AM »
Bloodworth, as it turns out, its actually DISNEY who has the distro rights in Japan, so therefore, by the time the japanese DVD version comes along, the american one will most likely already be out, with dubs.
Even though I don't care much for dubs, from what Ive seen disney do with Spirited Away and Mononoke, they won't be bad at all.

I suggest you wait untill Disney releases it here, I'm not quite sure when that is, but I have a feeling that theres a small chance it could be this year.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Some people want their games shorter...
« on: October 23, 2003, 01:19:06 PM »
I also disagree heavily with that article, he complains that games are too long, and that he never finishes them.  He then goes onto saying how he BUYS SO MANY GAMES, perhaps thats why he never finishes them.  If he thought ahead and actually FINISHED a game before buying a new one, He wouldn't be having that angle on things.

Out of every single gamecube game I own (30 even right now) the only games I haven't beat (not 100%, but close usually) are SW: Bounty Hunter, and THPS4, I stopped both because of a lack of interest, not a lack of gameplay.  I played through viewtiful joe in 2 days, (Lucky for me, i got in on a break) I don't feel dissapointed at all, I enjoyed the hell out of the game.  I'd still be playing it if I didn't end up finding Earthbound on a whim and started playing that game quite a bit.  (Earthbound = LONG game, for those who didn't know, im betting its at least 40-50 hours, I don't think it has a timer till you beat it.)

I really think the length of the game depends on what type of game it is.
Metroid Prime = Perfect length, much longer than all the other metroid games (at around 20 hours first time, can get down to 2-3 if perfect) and it just felt perfectly executed for me.
WindWaker was a tad bit too short on gameplay, the ocean made the game much longer, but that actually is the sole reason I haven't gone back to playing it.
Lost Kingdoms was far too short, just started getting very interesting... then a hard ass fight, and stopped, I never grabbed the sequel (Will do.)
Cubivore is  also very close to a near perfect length, and I still go back to try and find more transformations, i never got them all.
Mario Sunshine, i played the HELL out of this game when it first came out, I enjoyed quite a bit of it.  I'm not quite sure what to say length wise though, unlike Mario 64, i was never compelled to go back and get ALL the Shines (I got all the stars on SM64 multiple times)
Skies of Arcadia: nearly perfect length for a truly amazing game, I don't think they could have done this any better, about the time your getting tired of the world map/way the game is, something major happens and your at the final dungeon.  I can complain that some of the later dungeons were too short, but I love the game to death.

I really don't own any incredibly short games, Luigi's Mansion was short, but it was a great length.  Pikmin is something that NEEDED to be longer, it was absolutely amazing, but by the time you could see what the game COULD pull off (distant spring) it just. stopped.  I would be amazed to seee some levels after that, i hope the sequel manages to pull it off well.

Anyway, games are whatever length they need to be.  Beating them mainly matters on the gameplay that it offers, not how long it is.

heh, the "warriors of the wind" was so butchered i couldn't sit through all of it, which is why i got a fansub recently.  all the cave scenes where it was incredibly dark, all that stood out was someones face, the entire background was almost pure black, quite annoying.  That might have just been my copy though.

regardless, theyre translating the manga now?... I might need to look into that

General Chat / RE:Japanese DVDs
« on: October 22, 2003, 06:01:17 AM »
I can't say much about WATCHING japanese DVD's in an american dvd player, but I'm sure you can find a way for a DVD-rom to play them, along with getting multi-region DVD's.

I can comment on Nausicaa though, I recently *cough*downloaded a good fansub*cough* and it is a REALLY good anime, one of the best animated movies I've ever seen.  Its trying to cram a ton of information into a 2 hour film, so if you miss something, you miss it forever, so if you don't have a really good mastery of japanese, I can understand where you'll be lost for quite a while.

Also, considering that Disney is doing the localization of all of Miyazaki's works, I'm sure the disney dub of nausicaa will be VERY good, and I'll almost undoubtely pick it up, even though the film looks a little dated.  I'm sure the DVD release has to up the quality quite a bit, for such a dark movie, its really hard to discern certain parts of it considering the washed out colors.

Good movie though, i definately reccommend it.

Such a high score suggests that it's an amazing title but I've never really regarded the Mario Kart series as highly as most do (I prefer the high speeds of F-Zero).  I imagine that for me it will still be a really fun party game but I'm not expecting it to be the top game on the Cube, favourable reviews aside.

Metroid Prime got 10 10 10
something it deserved according to me, it was one of the very flew platinum games, ever.

I wasn't sure if I was going to get Double Dash, having already bought 2 racing games this year (quite a bit for me) Another one is a little bit too much. (Burnout 2 and F-Zero GX)

Not like its going to stop me though, I need to see more reviews though.
thats why I love www.gamerankings.com
O.. why wasn't "Metal Arms: Glitch to the system" in that EGM? Its looking *REALLY* good.

Alastar has *VERY* much in common with devil may cry, when you unlock him, he doesn't transform by his self, you have to hit "Z"for the "devil trigger" so that he transforms into Stylish Alastar, his sword is named Alastor, and he also has quite a few moves that resemble dante from devil may cry
...but you have to beat V-Rated to unlock him

I'm just about done with the game, I'll continue playing it, but those 2 AX VEHICLES (note: story on very hard, haven't beat 7/9) I'm missing are just too much of a pain to unlock

Everything outside of story is a breeze to me, doesn't matter though, because its So fun, even after I so (quickly) mastered it, (I believe its because I could beat master on X or MV without much problem that it quickly became the same for this one)

« on: October 16, 2003, 12:35:17 PM »
Super Metroid for SNES is usually around 30$, and it IS considered a rare game, it did sell quite a bit, but rarity is based on how hard it is to get a game CURRENTLY, and super metroid is hard to get.
Chrono Trigger is also around 30$ at this moment, so the rarity of Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger (and FF3, secret of mana, earthbound) are all equal.
(I own every game i just mentioned o.O)

Also, I didn't buy Super Mario All Stars + because I prefer to play the games on the GBA if i have the ability, Portable gaming = portable for a reason, I can play it wherever I go, somthing I really enjoy.
