Nintendo Gaming / RE:Harvest Moon AWL: Ask a question, get an answer!
« on: March 06, 2004, 05:57:57 AM »
Alright, next round of questions.

Considering your only on year 2, few things im curious about..

During the winter, is there any crops that can grow and be harvested?

Is there a mine in the valley?

47 blocks? shoot.. guess thats where my extra memory card is going.. im gonna have to buy another 251..

Have you came across any festivals at all? I know they aren't in the japanese version, but i heard that part of the reason for the massive delay of the american one is because they were adding them back in.
Also, any major Engrish? natsume is famous for that.

Its easy to find karen in these places:
Morning - sitting on bench next to rick.
day-ish. - go inside the store, she sometimes dissapears for a few hours randomly, i dunno where she goes.
night - really late at night (8) she goes to the beach, on certain days (i believe the days when the store is closed) she goes to the bar.

Birthday »
Fall 15 (alt Fa 23) (alternate only happens if you picked fall for your birthday)

Special Foods » (you have to be able to create these in your kitchen... buying them eats them immediately)
Pizza, French Fries, Popcorn

Favorite Foods »
Cheese, Wine, Truffles, Tempura, Sashimi, Bamboo Shoots, Pink Diamonds, Diamonds, Perfume
Wine is probably the best bet, buy it from the wine-cellar every day and give it to her.  Sashimi is also very easy to get.  Fish, then use Fish + knife in your kitchen (perhaps some soy-sauce for seasoning)  Bamboo shoots will hold throughout spring, and Im suggest giving her grapes in the fall.  But, always try to get her WINE.  she's an alchoholic.  Pink diamonds and diamonds are found mining, very low levels, hard to get.   Truffles require befriending the priest.. and perfume is only possible to get at the horse races, it costs 150 medals.

There are certain flowers she doesn't like, you have to judge by her reaction.  I suggest you do the usual, talk to her twice, give her an item.  Try to do this every day.

I know that karen does NOT like sweets, which is odd.  Most of the girls love Eggs as well, thats how i won the heart of popuri =p.

Anyway, hope this helps..
What color is her heart?

Ancient potion, that thing was a  PAIN to get.. However, i won mine from a selection at the end of the "goblin wall" level, my friend got his after the Mushroom level.  Keep beating those, try to get good scores, and it will show up.

The legend weapon was absolutely worth it for my lilty.

hehe, i generally get early varia suit.  Its very difficult.. imagine trying to do every single one of those jumps.. using infinite bomb jumps, without grip or high jump.. etc.

i love this game.

oh, check out http://www.metroid2002.com for some videos of it, i believe someone is working on a 100% < 1 hour at the moment... i'll ask next chance i have...
They also have some amazing videos for every other metroid game, the type of speed runs that make you cry.
Its filled with a lot of very useful info, if you want to see how i got early varia, or how to get just about early *anything* (Like fighting ridley before kraid, great fun!) you can just look there.  Some of the things they've showed me have completely changed how i played metroid games...

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Harvest Moon AWL: Ask a question, get an answer!
« on: February 29, 2004, 04:40:56 AM »
Jonny, the game itself is supposed to last 30 years, thats why the amount of time in a day really surprised me.
In HM:FOMT (GBA one) 5 seconds = 10 minutes of gametime.

The Marriage aspect isn't that difficult, just talk to the girl you want every day, find out what she really likes and repeatedly give her presents.  The Harvest Sprites don't seem as useful as they are in FOMT (where you could train them to water/harvest/feed animals for you) but thats alright to begin with.

You already have a cow?  Thats strange.. those things usually take a lot of money to buy...and are hard to afford the first year or so.  I'm very curious to see what they've changed..

The release date is still 3-16, right?

Alright, heres quite a few of them.
I'm not sure if you can answer the majority of them, considering you haven't played a HM game before, but i'll try anyway.

First, you mentioned each day taking around 30 minutes, thats a HUGE increase from previous harvest moon games, whats the second to minute ratio if you know?   Harvest Moon 64 was roughly 5 minute days, Harvest Moon: FOMT is roughly 10ish minute days..

Im guessing with the increased daytime, and the fact that the game is so many years long, How long each is year?  they had to seriously cut down on the year time so the game is plausible long.

Likewise, i mentioned hearing something on multi-season crops, do these really exist? and can some crops actually be harvested in winter?

Who's your love interest? =p

Have you came across..wahtever it is.. that allows you to cross breed seed types?  How does that work?

you also mentioned having to water twice in  a day, something else new for harvest moon games.. how do you know when to water them again?

oh, have you came across any harvest sprites?  what do they do?

Exclusivity doesn't really matter to me, Did i like Prince of Persia less because other systems got it?

Anyway, think of it this way:
The games so great that they wanted to reach a broader audience.

I personally think that both OOT and Majora's Masks were designed with the cartoon theme in mind to begin with, they just didn't have the hardware to pull it off.  Look at them (espicially OOT) they aren't nearly as "realistic" as some people believed they were.
I'm sure that the official art has something to do with this however.

« on: February 23, 2004, 10:59:15 AM »
capcom themselves have commented on how trying to port viewtiful joe would be far more challenge than its worth, the game was MADE to run on gamecube hardware, and porting it would require a nearly full redesign of the entire graphics engine.

they also said that its not going to happen

it wouldn't be announced in a magazine like that anyway, im sure that some sort of japanese magazine would get word of it before the UK does.

However being that FFVII has been the most requested remake title on Sony gamers wish lists of all time and being that the PSP uses a different format than PSX consoles, one would have to be pretty slow not to fill the gaps that the PSP will launch with either FFVII remake game or FFVII: Advent Children the Movie on PSP format.

Quote
Also Im not looking for any credibility whatsoever in anything I write, so if any of my text may contradict me for double standards its because Im playing the sledging-mind-games of the media and/or mainstream generalising masses, only that Im rooting for the party that is being persecuted/segregated and as far as Im currently aware, gamers do still have the rights to speech.

heh, show me a basis on the FFVII remake, and i'lll believe you, but something as big as that is NOT going to remain quiet till so close to PSP launch, i know some people who are determined that metroid prime 2 is coming out this summer, which is obviously not possible at all, unless some massive media is put up within a month or so.
Square launching a PSP remake of FFVII at launch would go *completely* against squares marketing strategy, they hype games YEARS before theyre released, they would be hyping an FFVII remake now along with some very vigorous PSP hyping.  Square is more worried about FFXII than an FFVII remake at the moment, mainly because they *STATED* that there is no FFVII remake being done at the moment, and that they will not do one *as long as a system that can play FFVII is on the market* and look, PS2 is still on the market, and the PSP is not replacing PS2.
your just pulling wishes out of nowhere and yelling at others for not wishing they were true, i hate nothing more than when people try to tell off fantasy as truth, its where rumors start, and rumors can very often be false... thats what the main point of this entire thread is about.

that said.
www.penny-arcade.com had a great post on the whole innovation fanboy thing, read the frontpage if you don't read the site already.

i switch between my SNES and Cube all the time, just by unplugging the cord in the back of one and plugging it into the other, works quicker than any other method for my setup, and it allows me to have S-Video for my SNES, completely useless, but cool nonetheless

yeah, we mainly usef the huge amount of food/milk as just a joke, considering that later on, the families would start dropping around 20 of EACH in quick succession, we made it a quest to see who could grab the most.
pointless, but more entertaning than it should be.

by "crossover" i mean a move where the arrows are like this:
<-
   \/
        ->
(i hope that worked..edit: nopte, it didn't, but, you cn see what i mean anyway)
and you have to use for instance, left foot on left arrow, right foot on lower arrow, then crossover and use left foot on right arrow.. its much easier to explain in person.

what ive been doing is left foot on left arrow, right foot on low arrow, then do some quick annoying jump-skip move to get the right foot on the right arrow, whicht akes far too much energy and disrups rythm.

twilight zone Standard? i'll try that.. the song is great on heavy (cept for the ending... those gallops don't work) i'll try it.

custom robo has always looked good, i'll probably pick that up.

luckily, i'll still be playing harvest moon: AWL at that point, if they keep delaying it, i might have to wait till then to play it anyway :anger:

my friend kept sending his blacksmith familiy mythrils (once they became abundent) and they eventually sent him a template for a  "Legend" class weapon ( equal to the best weapons in the game, but insanely hard to make)
hope that helps.

Bloodworth: the little bags are *all* used for crafting in one way or another, if your still using the japanese version of the game, ic ould see how that would be confusing, considering they get as random as "needle" or "ancient potion"
the little nut things are seeds, if you give htem to your family, at the start of the next year talk to a family member and they will ilterally shower the ground with whatever the seeds grew into.. same thing if you buy your family a cow (possible in the fields of fum), loads of milk will pop out of someone the next year.

I love DDR, though i only get to play it on a roughtly weekly basis.  I'm horrendous on metal pads and at the arcade, probably becuase im just so used to playing with those lovely 100$ redoctane igniton 2.0 pads.

i can do most songs up to 9 feet. i have some techniques i need to fix..

anyway, i don't see DDR coming to nintendo this generation, though i would love a nintendomix variation of the game, with the 3rd PS2 game coming out next month, and it already being out for Xbox, i just don't see it as a wise marketing move for konami or consumers, much to my dissapointment.

anyway....
Quote from: me from a different forum

I played DDR a decent amount over the weekend, between the 40 hours of FF:CC we managed to cram in.

my (relatively) once a week playing has been enough to get me slightly better than the state i was in when i first started playing a huge amount, and ive been trying just about anything that says 9 foot for whatever reason.. I'm getting far better and finally learning to twist my body to get into the groove, and my timing on the multiple steps on the same arrow has finally been about right. (still have issues with that, you know, like long quick stretches, abyss, tsugaru (major typo) I still don't do a "crossover" when i see one, thats what im going to work on next.

anyone have an idea of an easy song that has loads of crossovers? i know breakdown does, but its going to fast for me to think about attempting it without being screwed up...

anyway, the only things i really have trouble with now are fast constant body twisting sessions, rythm and police, exotic ethnic, the Max's, and i can't do stuff like end of the century.. actually, i have a hard time with ANYTHING that has 8th steps then random doubles thrown in..

anyway, i mainly play at a friends house and mainly play Max2 (i played original max to death), with an iginition 2.0 pads (wearing socks) and im gonna try to play at the arcade more often, though i do horrendous there...

i mainly need help with the crossovers, but does anyone have any sort of techniques they use that could help me? cause i really want to get better, but i can't practice every day.

considering what im not good at, im surprised what i can do well.

nonjagged, nice speculation, but don't ever try to say speculation as fact, some of the things you cited as going to happen (FFVII for PSP at launch?) haven't even been hinted at by anyone, ever.

anyway, this isn't gaming-age, so i don't know why you spent so much of your post bashing him, along with saying things such as xcox and whatever other insulting names just detracted from that gigantic post of yours and made you seem biased.

you also seem to be vastly over-rating how not needed 2 screens are.. after playing FFCC for 40 hours over the weekend, i can definately see the advantage for certain multiplayer games, or things where the menu is navigated with a seperate screen as to not interupt the gameplay, however, for the vast majority of games, (bout 95%) i see no point in Duel Screens,
but, besides that.. you do have some good points, considering im pretty sure that it has already been confirmed that one of the screens of the dS is a touch screen, im honestly expecting the whole menu/button layout to be on the lower screen, and all the gameplay on the upper screen for the majority of games.. for things like RPG's and RTS, this would be perfect.... and it would also solve the issue of the gameboy not having enough buttons forever.
though it would be difficult to adjust too.

I'm not ready to do so much speculation on the DS yet, considering that not a single thing about games has been mentioned for it, so thats still something im holding out till E3 for.

I'm also trying to figure out why innovation is a keypoint in this thread, its been basicly proved that it has very little to do with sales, the best selling game of the year is almost always a Madden game, and innovation has nothing to do with that...along with the huge amount of remakes that are coming out around this time.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Castlevania
« on: February 17, 2004, 12:17:31 PM »
Castlevania on PSP or DS is my bet.  I'm actually expecting a port of Symphony of the Night on one of those systems (most likely PSP)

however, the 2d castlevania's have gotten a little stale, but perhaps that was just because of the 3 in 3 years issue, i wouldn't mind another one.  Circle of the Moon is my fave out of the GBA 3, (aria being second, i hated harmony) and it seems that lament wasn't as good as it needed to be... I'm really curious to see what the next castlevania will be.

I would love some sort of 2d game with a 3d map, like if you see a door in the background, you could go into it, and then it would have crazy intersecitng passages and everything.
seems like a damn good idea that could be implemented with enough ingenious thought... and seems far more suited for castlevania than metroid in my mind.

after playing a 10 hour marathon of the game last night with 2 friends..
Me = Lilty ( decided on high attack.. and i love polearms..)
friend 1 = selki
friend 2 = yuke

the game is absurdly fun.  the competitiveness of the bonuses is a MAJOR help, as is being able to go through levels again to get more artifacts to get stronger.  were on year 4.. right now i think... we accidently have gone through many years just trying to get stronger and get items to get better weapons and whatnot.  stat wise all of our chars are quite different, because were very good at letting one person get the stats they need at the end of a level, and then if theres an extra slot/heart, we just go through the same level again.
the levels are really fun, and so is trying to pull of some combo spells, accidently doing thigns like firaga+1 is *REALLY* cool, the effects of gravity/gravira on flying enemies is essential, and of course, trying to get things such as HASTE to work makes it very teamplay oriented.

anyway awesome game, i can't wait to play it more tonight.

I just find it hilarious how your ignoring the obvious...

top 10 best selling consule games of 2003:

nintendo games don't apply to mainstream gamers? they don't sell well? they are behind the times?
then how the hell are they the best selling games fo 2003?
pokemon ruby/sapphire are the same game, and they EACH sold more than EVERY OTHER GAME ON THE MARKET (cept for madden 2004)
then windwaker sold MORE than GTA:VC last year, im sure that speaks for itself....(though GTA:VC did come out in december the year before, i think.)

hell, nintendo isn't doing bad, tehy've been making an absurd amount of money, mainly of the gameboy units and game sales.  I'm sure having a market saturation of 50,000,000 GBA's has to help quite a bit in the long run, the gamecube isn't doing nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be.  with the 99$ cube, its selling very well, and nintendo just needs to get itself with more people playing its games, then in the next generation it should be doing very well as long as it keeps itself with good ads and the amazing quality games it always had/still has.

the anylists seem to ignore certain things, tehy do what they are told to do.  they don't realize how well everything is in the grand scheme of things, at this point, im about 95% that gamecube is going to end the current console wars in 2nd place.,
which, is good enough for me.
