Yeah, I forgot about Pokemon.

There's a slight amount of justification for random battles in Pokemon. Since that game is about catching rare creatures and such, a bit of randomness is acceptable. Still, they need to update that game and figure out a way to have you catching rare Pokemon without random battles.

That would completely and 100%ly ruin the game to me, it wouldn't make the monsters "rare" anymore.  Just doesn't work.

I honestly don't see whats so bad about random battles, you keep mentioning issuse that i just don't think exist.

I have to admit that Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi did battles very well, because what you do to an enemy outside of the battle screen effects what happens to it at the start of battle.  Earthbound, however, did *NOT* do it well, earthbound is one of the few instances where i wish the game had random battles, as trying to go so far after an enemy is really a pain.

I'm not saying that every game without random battles is bad, far from it.  I just prefer random battles... I don't see any issue with them, they just make the game far more enjoyable to me.  I know theres no way in hell i would have been able to train nearly as much as i have in certain games if the battles weren't random.   Espicially the golden suns, for instance.

Wow, that *clarification* made a huge difference.

So, nintendo won't be making a web browser for the ds,  big deal.

The cool thing, however, is that there *IS* a possibility of a web browser for the DS.  But the resolution is probably too small for comfort.

And because you aren't in total control I feel that the point in the adventure is pretty moot...You should be able to choose not only where you go, but what and how often you fight...

Choosing when and how often you fight ruins the RPG experience for me.

But, i suppose views can differ, I just prefer plain ol' random battles to anything else.  Simple, Easy, not nearly as aggrivating in the long run.   I actually find it faster as well, as I can worry about WHERE I need to get to, instead of where i can go so i can get into another fight.   I hate having to go out of my way to fight an enemy, I prefer just getting through a dungeon, random battling and getting all the chests, then right before the end sitting and training till i see no reason too anymore.  Then i take on the boss and move on.

I had my wisdom teeth removed last week, That in itself didn't hurt at all, completely painless, don't remember a thing.

If i don't take the pills my mouth starts swelling and feeling sore though, i'll stick with them for another day or so, but the "entire body numbness" is becoming more annoying than the simple "mouth slightly throbbing"

I *REALLY* hope thats what this means, its not like a WiFi router is expensive or hard to get, hell, a local Schlotzky's of all places now has free WiFi.

I doubt it will be that long till some 3rd party goes online though, once that happens things should pick up.

I want nintendo to  SHOW SOME REAL SOFTWARE already.  Theyre not going to have enough time to pimp this thing if its still planned on being released this year.

doh, double post... is there a delete button on this forum type?

Also, the  "rent before you buy" holds true, Its not rare to rent a game then to go out and buy it if you think its worth owning.

n RPGs with random battles most of the time I get stuck in a situation where I don't have enough health to get back to the inn without getting killed by random enemies. If I'm stuck in that situation no amount of skill can save me. That situation should NEVER happen in any game.

Oddly enough, that has *NEVER* happened to me in any RPG i've played.  You are aware that you *CAN* run from random battles, right?  Or perhaps buy healing items beforehand?   Maybe think ahead because its generally obvious WHEN your going to get into a random battle, and if you aren't strong enough for the area.. then TRAIN.

I don't think i have ever lost to random battles in an RPG unless I was playing incredibly poorly, and i know for a fact that wasn't because "the battles were random" it was because of poor planning and basicly being stupid.

Nintendo also has Billions in the bank, and it is also ahead console sales worldwide.  Sorry Casual, but you need to get your facts straight.

Random battles are an archaic way of handling enemy encounters. I can tolerate them if the frequency of the battles is low, but honestly, in this day and age it should be done away with. I find that random battles tend to deter exploration. I mean, you might see a treasure chest across the room, but is it really worth 5 minutes of fighting just to get some crappy potion? Usually not.

Also, random battles really piss me off when I get lost. Sometimes, after a long battle, I might forget which way I was headed. Once I realize I'm going in the wrong direction and turn around, I have to fight another battle.

Random battles also just don't make any sense. It's completely illogical why you can keep getting in fights simply by running around in circles in an empty room.

Anyway, I see random battles as being the lazy way out. If they actually had to place enemies in a level, then that would require some actual thought and level design. They would actually have to spend some time deciding where to place enemies, which enemies to put where, etc...

I couldn't believe IGN's review of TOS actually complained about being able to avoid random encounters. "Oh noes! Making the game less tedious is the terribles!"

Thats actually why I love random battles, if i want to get an item, then I have to work for it.  I absolutely HATE having to run into enemies for them to fight me, makes training take FAR too long, espicially in games where you have to leave the map and come back for more enemies.

Sure, random battles are annoying at times, but theyre supposed to be, Its not like you *have* to fight them, every game i know of with random battles has a "repellent" of some sorts.

*shrugs* suppose i'm just lazy

Memory cards aren't the only rip-off though.  Nintendo supposedly still charges too much for third party licensing and they have $30 Player's Choice titles when MS and Sony only have $20 "Hits" titles.  Nintendo's got to stop dicking everyone around for a few extra bucks.  Stupid stuff like that is just turning people away.

I see a lot of $20 players choice games,Metroid Prime, RS3: Rebel Strike, F-Zero GX, the 2 RE remakes, all of them are $20 new

I know theres quite a few other ones, like a few of the sega titles (I know Mega collection is, as was one of the monkey balls)

I really don't think i've ever seen a $30 players choice.

I used 3x 59 cards, and a full 251 card.

I recently transferred ALL of it to a single 1019, which isn't even half full.

only annoyance is that I can't transfer my damn F-Zero GX file >_>

Yeah, i have to admit that I do feel slightly ripped off, but thats quickly replaced by the fact that I'm *hoping* that the revolution uses the exact same memory card, so that when that system comes out, there will be no issues with mem card space, ever.

I generally find the Logitech "AirFlow" 3rd party controllers to be equal too, or superior, to the original versions.  Damn nice controllers.  Without a doubt i prefer the Xbox Airflow to either of the official ones.

The Hori pad is a good mention, theyre releasing a similar thing for the PS2 as well, but based off of the Sega Saturn design O_o

I'm not sure why there aren't any more "standard" 4 button facepads for the cube controller... the closest you can get to that is a cube to PS2 port... Which really isn't a bad thing for some games.

Tecmo isn't anywhere near xbox exclusive.
Just the "Team Ninja" division of it.  Tecmo creates far more games than just DOA and ninja gaiden, namely the monster rancher series, along with others.

Monster Rancher DS, i know they'll make it.... wonder if they could somehow use the touchpad in the spawning process...

I personally PREFER random battles to being able to see enemies, i never understood the distaste for them. @_@

Random Battles make it much easier to train, and just get things done in my mind.

oops, yeah, your right.

I'm wondering why Gradius V isn't coming to gamecube, I don't know why konami (or SCEA) would allow it to be released on the PS2 and not the cube.  I'm amazed SCEA is allowing it to come out at all in america, but i suppose konami has enough control over them because of the MGS titles and such.

Tis a shame.
Treasure is one amazingly unique developer, they aren't afraid of taking risks, and i like that.

I'm curious about these... Are they packaged as 2 seperate games bundled together?  Or is it simply 2 disks in the same box?

Either way, some of those bundles are insanely awesome.  All seem to be party-based as well.

I hope they bring this over here.

I'm glad that someone is catching on that the PSP is constantly turning into a worse and worse idea.

Not being able to play MP3's is bad enough, but when the Japanese developers are going "what the hell are you smoking?" you know theres an issue.

I still need to see some games though, from either the DS or the PSP.  They have to start pimping the DS soon.

General Gaming / RE: Will Fable be coming to PC?
« on: July 12, 2004, 09:09:51 AM »
I think that Fable's hype is going to be its own demise, I wonder how long it took them to realize "oh **** we can't do all the stuff we promised?" but yet they kept acting like they were..slowly changing the size of the world to smaller, making less options available.

It still looks interesting, but i know theres no way it could compare to its original boasts of such things as "the world is bigger than morrowind" and such.
