Retrospect? Hindsight?

Anyway, a random thought:

When they say to treat people the way you want to be treated, are they encouraging rape?

Call me a cynic, but I'm pretty sure this is fake.

I don't think Japan uses "GCN"... they just use "GC".

What I heard anyway.

Garfield is ok... used to be better. The quality has always been hit-and-miss... it just misses a lot more often now.

And I can't believe nobody mentioned a super-hero yet. Kids these days... no culture whatsoever...

So, to kick it off:

Spider-man, Spider-Man
Does whatever a spider can
Spins a web, any size
Catches thieves, just like flies
Look out, here comes the Spider-Man!

The thing I like about your reviews is that the score matches the review.

Maybe I'm just acridly cynical, but you can't find that on many sites nowadays.

Anyway, I've finished the game, having played the original many times over. If anything, I like this version more... it's the definitive version of the game. Like a collector's edition.

The cutscenes are over-the-top, but they're also bad-ass. And you can skip the codec conversations and boring cutscenes really fast once you see them the first time, which is cool. More games need that kind of stuff.

I used the other abilities... the hiding in the lockers, dragging guards' bodies and jumping over ledges.

SPOILER

Example: The jumping over ledge thing is really useful in the tank hangar... you can use it to wait until the guard comes and leaves. You can also use it to drop straight down there and bypass a guard patrol and a camera.

Hold the control stick in the direction you're going in when you land.

You'll roll and take no damage.

It's not a stupid glitch... it's just another example of stupid development in this game.

Yeah, leave us in the dark Ubi. Wouldn't want us to enjoy the game or anything if something like this happened. And this is around the fifth time I've heard this complaint.

Denis already said that if they worked together again, it would be on something original.

On a related note, I feel like I just murdered something innocent and carefree in cold blood.

I started skipping the visions by the third one.

And it was still way too easy to figure out what to do next. There's always only one way to go forward, and once you find it there's always a fight and then a save point.

I guess my problem was that there was no thinking involved at all. And I could have forgiven this if the game was fun, but it wasn't. It was just following an obvious path and the fights were a pain.

But to get back on topic, one of the undisclosed titles is probably Buzz for the DS. I'm just hoping at least one title is for the GC.

I really enjoyed POP, though. Even though the story was spoonfed to you as you went, it was very minimal, and it was more about gameplay than anything else.
The gameplay was spoonfed to you as well, which is why I hate it.

I've always wanted to play ICO, just never got the chance.

That's exactly what I mean.

It's why I hated PoP so much too.
"This is how you do the puzzle. Now go do it, then fight a little, then we'll resume our half-assed attempt at an epic story and then tell you how to do the next one. Don't worry, you can't die, all you have to do is press L. Unless you're in a fight of course, in which case... how lucky are you feeling today?"

And MP was perfect... the story wasn't intrusive. There was almost no story if you didn't go out of your way to read up on it, and if you did the story and background details were actually pretty good stuff. You rarely ever lost control of Samus. The only problem I ever had with that game was the last escape sequence.

But that's not all I meant. What I especially hate is when stupid developers try to pull off a deep story. It never works... MGS2, the FF series (especially FFX), Xenosaga are cases in point. Those storylines insulted my intelligence, not because they weren't deep, but because they tried to be deep and failed miserably. I'd rather have a story that makes no sense on purpose.

1663
I'll vouch for the difficulty...

I tried to get past the first room on Hard for nearly half an hour before giving up and doing it on Normal.

1664
I finished this game on PS1 but I bought the remake anyway.

Love this game... forgot how much fun it was back then.

I can almost forget about the horror that was MGS2 now.

My point still stands though... People care too much about story in games these days. That's not what games are for... we have movies and books for that. I don't know about everybody else, but I play games to have fun.

The only games I've seen successfully pull off a deep story are ED, MGS1 and most old Lucasarts games. And it's nice when they pull it off... but most of the time their efforts are misguided.

If you ask me I'd rather developers who don't know what they're doing (Square with FF8 onwards, Konami with MGS2, pretty much any attempt to impress me with an "epic" story that makes no sense) work on making the games fun instead and half-ass the story on purpose since it's going to suck anyway.

Who cares if you lose sight of what you're fighting for?

God I miss the old days.

The president has been kidnapped by ninjas. Are you a bad enough dude to rescue the president?

Jeux-France article

My translation:

According to an interview with the official English Nintendo magazine, Shigeru Miyamoto declared that he is working on 2 new undisclosed games, and that they will come out sometime this year. [working on new zelda, mario, pikmin 2 blah blah...] There is a strong chance these 2 new games will be revealed next May in Nintendo's 2004 E3 conference.

Let me clarify.

At no point in PoP did I feel like I was playing a game.

All I was doing was following instructions and cursing my way through fights.

But oh well, that's just my opinion... I prefer my games to have some gameplay to them.

I can't say I'm surprised by this, but I am disappointed.

People are losing sight of what games are supposed to be about these days.

Anyway, yeah, we're talking about close-mindedness now?

It's not about listening to or accepting new ideas, it's about considering them.

"There are a lot of people who are more open minded, but I honestly know very few that aren't adults. (A good deal of my friends are teachers/college guys, probably explains why I think that.) "

Adults are worse. They're still close-minded, they just learn to hide it from experience.

I've seen the same shirt...

But then again, I'm in college now, so I see all kinds of stuff.

And I think one of the biggest reasons for your question is the internet.

Back in the day, you had to WORK to look at porn. Now all you have to do is fire up google or *****. There's no mystery anymore. And legal age limits never apply online. Especially not if you have an older brother.

Because of that, media outlets have been forced to resort to bigger shock value, thus letting kids see even more shocking stuff.

And because of the dysfunctional kids that develop, dysfunctional families form. Leading to more dysfunctional kids. It's a vicious cycle.

Dude, if you have a kid in this day and age he's guaranteed to be screwed up. My generation was one of the last few to even be able to resist corruption.

Well, yeah, the social classes are emerging and becoming more well-defined earlier these days.

I mean, I've seen kindergarteners drop the f-bomb in my brother's class, and my mom's already teaching him that they're "rude, bad boys". Shouldn't take many subsequent years for them to develop into the "cool group".

I blame the downfall of society, the trashification of the media and the disappearance of family values.
