Nintendo Gaming / Re: Is the Wii U underpowered?

" view the Wii U as a rescue ship for the gaming industry. "

Didn't you say that about the wii as well?  Developers don't have to spend money to make quality games, Minecraft comes screaming to mind but there's plenty of other examples like Demon Souls (PS3).

If I was developing a game now I wouldn't bother making an WII U game when I can target three systems (XboxOne,PS4, PC) at once since there are all x86 systems which when combined their numbers is going be a much larger user base?

"More of its hardware resources are dedicated to gaming."

:(.  That's not true, 1/2 the WII U memory is for OS, not sure about it's cores but I'm guessing one core Is reserved for the OS/gamepad.

MS stated that 3GB's of ram is reserved  and I'm not sure about the cores.  Still since it had 8GB to begin with it's still has a higher % of resources reserved for gaming than the WII U.

"relegating Vita "

Yeah, was expected to see a few "surprises" that never happened.  Was expecting somesort of spinoff of GTA since the PSP had a couple that sold somewhat decent.

Was also expecting to hear about a price cut but Sony seems like it forgotten the NA market exists because other than a few collection series (Sly Cooper, Jak series) there wasn't that much announced that I cared for.

Was also expecting to hear more about remote play with PS4, was expecting to hear about the ability to play co-op (one guy on the Vita and the other on TV) using one ps4 software title.

----------------------------------------

I still love my vita though,  I picked it up used cheap and gotten plenty of titles free from PS+.

Actually the WII U GPU is still limited to DX 10.1 (opengl 3.2ish).  Square Enix was just talking about it during KHIII and why the WII U was excluded from the multiplatform title.  Square stated the game was already 3+ years in the making and it was using DX11 as the base.

As for your statement, Yebis 2 is a post-processing effects tool (used for special lighting effects ect.) but the square engine itself is DX11 so no the wii u can't run it.

Streetpass update that's going make boost your lobby count.

Kinda given up on collecting them since nobody in my area seems to carry around their 3ds but with this new setup it should make things easier for all of us.

Man these delays are going kill Nintendo--X, Bayonetta 2, and Smash Brothers being already 2014 titles :( .

Retro's new game wasn't an surprise--more Donkey Kong.  I kinda figured as much as DKCR sold 7 million copies that Nintendo would have another one coming out.

Very little 3d party love (other than the games already announced).

No price cuts on the WII U?

----------------------------

My interest in a WII U is pretty damn low.  Sure I'll pick on up eventually just to play Mario/Donkey Kong but damn Nintendo needs to wake up to reality if they expect the system to sell.

I usually sit and wait a year after a console launches but I'm leaning towards preordering an PS4 just to give MS the royal finger.

*cough* $500 bones *cough*.

Really don't see the Xbox One selling all that well at launch.  PS4 keeps looking better and better.

"The company will also be bringing two games per month, free of charge, to Xbox Live Gold members. Additionally, it was announced that hundreds of games are still on the way for Xbox 360."

If it's like Sony's program, you'll own/have them for as long as you continue to be an "member".  Been an PS+ guy for two years now and I'm loving it, though most of the games that become free I already played/owned but there's plenty of indie titles I got to play free.

MS is releasing two games/month free to Xbox Live Gold members starting this month with Fable III being the first game.  The new program is to compete with Sony's PS+.  The announcement came during MS E3 super-slim Xbox 360 reveal.

No WII U demo station at my local BB's.  It's strange on what "stores" were selected or at least in my state it was.  2/3 BB's they picked were in low population areas and the area with over 8 million people got "one" station?   Just plain odd.

Yeah, I'm going wait and see about Xbox One.  Really depends on Sony and what they have plan for the PS4.  But I can wait for Xbox One to dropped into the bargin bin if I really needed to play some of it's exclusives.

My nephew's 8 so he really doesn't have a choice where he lives does he :0.  Also have a few friends that live overseas and they "can" get broadband but it costs loads--like $250 a month for freaking dsl.

"ONLINE CHECK-IN:

Microsoft has offically confirmed that the Xbox One will require online check-in every 24 hours, you can play offline for up to 24 hours. However if you play games on another Xbox One console, such as your friend or family's console, Xbox One will require check-in with an active Internet connection every hour. Microsoft said "offline gaming is not possible after these prescribed times until you re-establish a connection, but you can still watch live TV, Blu-ray and DVD movies on the console."

GAME LICENSING:

You can access your entire game library from any Xbox One console as long as you are signed into your account. Up to 10 family members can access your game library.

CLOUD TECHNOLOGY:

Microsoft also mentioned that for Xbox One games that make use of the cloud technology may require a constant Internet connection, offline play is not possible. Microsoft recommends a broadband connection of 1.5Mbps for use with the Xbox One.

KINECT AND PRIVACY:

Xbox One will allow users to toggle whether they want to automatically sign in and customize the privacy settings. Players can pause the Kinect while playing games or viewing live TV. The Xbox One can be turned off by saying "Xbox Off" and turned on by saying "Xbox On", so Kinect will still be running in the background when the console is turned off. Some apps and games may require Kinect to operate so you will need to turn it back on for these experiences.

One example of Kinect collecting user personal detail would be a Kinect fitness program tracking your heart rate and calories consumption; another example would be playing a card game, you can use facial expressions to fool the opponents. Microsoft said that this data will not leave your Xbox One without your permission.

CONTROLLER:

The Xbox One controller will support both wired and wireless connection, when a micro USB cable is connected to the controller, the wireless functions will switch off automatically. It will have infrared sensors and LEDs for the Kinect to sense the controller.

USED GAMES:

Microsoft confirmed that the availability of pre-owned Xbox One games will be decided by individual publishers, whether the game can be traded or resold without paying a fee. Microsoft said they do not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers or consumers.

Provided the individual publisher approves, disc-based Xbox One games can be traded between friends, but only once per game. No fees is required for trading titles between friends. However your friend must be a friend in your Xbox Live account for at least 30 days before you can make a trade.

GAME RENTAL:

Microsoft says that there will be no option to loan or rent software at the launch of the Xbox One, but that it is "exploring the possibilities with our partners."

DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION:

All Xbox One games will be available digitally and in stores on the day of release.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kinda bummed about the whole rental thing.  MS doesn't have a plan in motion but why don't they just copy a page from Sony and give timed-rentals, like an 72 hour pass or something.

You can still play your games on your friends system though but you'll have to login with your gametag.  It's better than having it locked to one system though there's still plenty of people that this would effect, me included, since my nephew CAN'T get internet where he lives (yes there's still "dead" zones in the USA).

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Official Sales Thread

PSP Vs Vita (in terms of cycle timespan) 4.5million vs 6million.  Vita's selling 20% slower than PSP.
3ds Vs DS 31 million vs 33 million.  3ds is selling 7% behind the ds now.

Last few months has been pretty dreadful numbers for hardware.  Not sure what Sony's planning but the vita's pretty much dead in the states--which is a shame since it's a nice little system with free games (PS+).

E3's floor plan is up, and all three consoles manufactures are lineup up pretty much.  Sony has a few more SQ since it has multiple smaller booths again this year but the main booth is right across from Nintendo and kiddie corner to MS's main booth. :0.

Of course I just want to go for all those cosplay booth babes anyhow--fook the games :0.

A new update on reselling:

"A gamer walks into a retailer and hands over the game they wish to sell. This will only be possible at retailers who have agreed to Microsoft’s T&Cs and more importantly integrated Microsoft’s cloud-based Azure pre-owned system into its own.

The game is then registered as having been trade-in on Microsoft’s system. The consumer who handed it over will subsequently see the game wiped from their account – hence the until now ambiguous claim from Phil Harrison that the Xbox One would have to ‘check in’ to Microsoft’s servers every 24 hours.

The retailer can then sell the pre-owned game at whatever price they like, although as part of the system the publisher of the title in question will automatically receive a percentage cut of the sale. As will Microsoft. The retailer will pocket the rest."

-----------------------------------

Still don't know the %fee MS has in stock but I'm guessing it's the $6-8 range or what MS normally get for royalty charge per/disc anyhow.

118
Which Fable?  Just googled in the first one and the fastest it can be completed with skipping FMV is 7:30 and the avg completion at 20 hour mark?

Not really a huge Fable fan neither (Peter Molyneux) but there more sidequests and other stuff to do in his RPGs.  Unless you mean that last "Kinect" Fable game because that's an adventure and not a RPG like Fable1-3 were.

119
Clearly, an 9 hour RPG game counts as a full retail product?  Don't talk about an game you never played because anyone who played the shitty thing would tell you they simply cut and released a product that wasn't close to being done and called it a full game.

Xmen is not as bad as Too human but you can clearly see a rushed product at the end.

120
"was Too human really that bad"

60+ million dollars to make over 8 year cycle time and only this thing they got for it was 1/3 of a crappy game?  And yeah I played and finished Too Human.  SK blamed Epic for their failure.

Xmen same crap, blamed everyone but themselves and then deny even working on it at all?

121
"Precursor Games is an entirely new entity"

LOL, that's rich.  Think they are all "ex" Silicon Knights employees, the CEO, CCO (Dyack), tech director, lore master, ect.  A new logo and a name change doesn't skipped the fact that these guys are the same ones that put out Too Human and Xmen destiny (even though they all deny it).

122
No  shingi_70, Xbox One requires internet, it doesn't have to be on 100%.  Kinda like Steam, you can install the game then play in offline mode.

123
"This "second install" fee is pretty baffling. Like, if this was just a wrist slap charge, $5-$10, tons of people would just go in on a game and pass it around, paying a deeply discounted price. So I'm guessing the fee will NOT be trivial. That, and how much will games cost in the first place? "

Hense why MS requires an internet connection--it's going check and mostly likely ban consoles that have the same games installed on them.  If you sell your game you'll going have to remove it from the HDD otherwise risk being banned when the other gamer activates it at the same time you do.

As for as I know Xbox One is cpu is still In Order.  OOE really only had an advantage when there was only one core/thread but nowadays it's all about multicores and threading which is why 0oOE was dropped in the 90's by IBM--doesn't make any sense with modern processors.

MS still haven't released on specs on the CPU though--most of the stuff is just leaks which "might" be true.

125
Not buying ONE--get it :0.

Requires Internet to verify installs, fees on installing game more than one (means no sharing games without paying fee).  Can't rent games.  MS is the odd one out since Sony confirmed that their ps4 games don't have used-DRM.

Not much was talked about in terms of power other than it matched 8GB of ram as PS4 but they didn't state it was using DDR5 which would led one to think it's using DDR3.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Overall, my money is still going to Sony's PS4 next generation.  Sony's stock rose today so it looks like others see it too--the PS4 will win because MS got to greedy.
