God I miss Ape beast...

In respects to #2, I'm fully anticipating this will be the X-Men versus the Brotherhood. The trailer already shows Magneto and a bridge being destroyed ala X-Men Last Stand.

That said, it would be cool if they added in the current state of the X-Men, and made the choice of "which side" more engaging. Right now, the X-Men have three view points:

- Professor X's more pacifist view
- Cyclops' middle of the road view, where he's not afraid to kill (ala X-Force)
- Magento's more extremist view

All are X-Men right now, and it would be neat if one gets to inadvertently pick which is leader based on their actions to see which view point best fits your character actions

Wait, you can get Rocko's Modern Life on DVD from Amazon? Hell yes, I'm totally doing that.

They are DVD-Rs sold as "Best Ofs", rather than seasons, but yep they are there...

So does this confirm that none of the earlier Pokémon from previous generations have new evolutions?

Also, I like the overall designs and think they did a good job this generation with a few exceptions, like the ones where karate clothes (although I will probably get used to it since Hitmonchan is similar in terms of wearing human clothes).

How does someone who hasn't posted since February 2009 (Bill) get more than 40 points?

Its Bill. For much of the forums, has was one of the most active participants and is, frankly speaking, still very memorable to this day.

I don't think it'll have much to do with Secret Wars, since that wasn't actually under the "Spider-Man" banner. My gut says Ultimate, since the damn symbiote has been such a big part of that series.

Hmm... Spider-man does merge with Carnage during the Ultimate Spider-Man game, so its quite possible:

Might seem like a retread for the company, but it would match with the teaser... although doesn't fit with the currently seen box art image. Still, Ultimate Universe is a good guess. Its a separate universe and has a symbiote arc to draw on (although I don't think the Ultimate Universe is really known for the symbiote angle, but then they already created a game on that universe and might be looking for a diverse angle anyway).

106
I know. Since Spider-Man 3 was the last movie, that's probably what they will go for, since only people like us have any idea what the Secret War even was. It's too bad, but maybe it's something they will consider in the future, since it was the origin of the symbiote suit.

I wouldn't say that. After all, it's only people "like us" who even know what Noir or 2099 are. ;-)

Average fans do not.

I simply don't think it will be going from the trailer, and be something more rooted in it being the symbiote than its Secret War and Battleworld origins.

107
It would be awesome if you got to fight in the Secret War.

It would. The final dimension being the Beyonder's Battleworld would be pretty cool... still, I have a feeling it might be something else given the teaser trailer which seemed to hint at a "mouth" (either from Spider-man or another symbiote character, which would rule out Secret Wars)

108
Regular symbiote Spider-man from the 1980's, or more than meets the eye?

I don't know if I would consider Just Dance and Dance on Broadway to be part of the same series. Same genre, yes; same series, maybe. Regardless, Just Dance 2 is coming out in October.

Do they play the same? That's an honest question as I don't know due to the fact that there are zero reviews out there for this game (like none). I assumed they did, and saw Dance on Broadway to be a spin off of the series in the way that the band exclusive Guitar Hero/Rock Band releases are.

A long term strategy works for the PS3 only for as long as the others don't release a new console.

Once Nintendo or Microsoft make their move, the PS3 is in trouble. Doesn't matter if its a small upgrade, all that counts is that its an upgrade either in hardware or usability. Once that happens, mind share will start to see the PS3 as an "old machine" and really a console can only get away with that label if its the current generation market leader.

Wow, Dance on Broadway jumped from 6th to 2nd, Ubisoft really does have a hit franchise on their hands. Nice to see a third party with a successful IP on the Wii and not just a particular title, even if I have a feeling we will see a third release in the series too soon.

TalkBack / Re: Griptonite Chief: Treat the 3DS Like a Console
« on: July 12, 2010, 11:40:59 PM »
Right right, they don't need to be quick games but quick for us to get in and get out. I have 80+ hours in Pokemon HG/SS, nothing quick about that, but I can stop real quick save my game and jump back in to it for another 3hour "long haul".......

This. I'm not familiar with Dragon Quest in terms of playing it, but I have spent a lot of time with Pokémon. That game is a huge time sink, but it benefits from being able to jump into the game real quick (after the initial set up) to grind or whatever the current task is at hand.

My comment was not that handhelds need to be small games, but that they benefit from being the type that can be started and played quickly if needed (not finished, but enjoyable from when you start to play). For example, when I was in college, my DS got a lot of use from the ten minute breaks I would sometimes have, and I would typically play Pokémon and Advance Wars. Those games are long, but they were ones that allowed for the player to start and stop when needed and were fun to play in even small spurts even if it was working toward a longer drawn goal.

I also disagree that the 3DS will be "treated like a console". I'm sure we'll see console-like games on the system (and we did for the DS, too). But treating a handheld like a console is sort of what got the PSP in trouble. Portable games need to be convenient for on-the-go gaming, and we will most certainly see games of all sizes and shapes on 3DS.

Couldn't agree more. [applauds]

The amount of time it takes from starting a game to playing it needs to be much smaller in a handheld title, and the satisfaction has to be achieved quicker as well.

Tales of Symphonia 2 is garbage

Disagree there. The problem with the game is that its close to the original, and yet not as good. All of the changes seem to be for the worse

The monster leveling aspect is a great time sink though, but Pokémon its not.

Still, the game is far from garbage as I had a lot of fun with it and would recommend it to people who liked the first. Just... they should be aware its not the same caliber of game.

Maybe, but they might know people expect that and put Black City in Pokemon White and White Forest in Pokemon Black.

I'm not doubting that its possible, but it just seems needlessly confusing to name the exclusive places after the game version... and then put it in the opposite version.

Sounds like Sony is trying to escape competing with the DS to go head-to-head with the iPhone/iPad.

Actually its sounds like Sony doesn't have a clue what to do with the device and instead is going for the "jack of all trades" route... again.

...one the bits of new info is that there will be two version-exclusive locations: Black City and White Forest. It doesn't say which version will get which location...

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and guess that Black City is exclusive to Pokémon Black, and White Forest is exclusive to Pokémon White. ;-)

Nice to see Super Mario Galaxy still on top in the UK.

...also, can't believe Dance On Broadway is already out. Way too soon, since Just Dance is still tearing up the charts.

Bought a DS (Phat) at launch, and it stills works just as good as ever after all these years.

If I was a videogame developer I would not give two shits about such people as long as I could still make money.

Isn't that the problem though, making money? The recent NPD report is pretty grim, and seems to be painting a market where only the top dog and evergreen titles are succeeding. In this type of economy, developers can not and should not act so full of themselves as to turn their nose at appealing to a broader demographic.

That's like a heavy metal band being approach by a guitar manufacturer with a new guitar that will attract the adult comtemporary market.

No its not, because consumers of that band's music will never touch that guitar. You don't have to know how to play a guitar to enjoy a song. You do have to know how to play a game to enjoy it though.

The games that don't work...well don't make games like that.

Well, that's the whole issue I have with it.  What sort of dev wants to hear THAT?

Frankly speaking, that's what many should be hearing though. Over time, controllers have gotten way too complicated. We (i.e. those of us posting on these forums) have grown up with them and are used to them, so it's not an issue to us.

To others it is, and there is a large group of consumers who just can't get into games because of complexity in controls. A game should be easy and fast to learn, but complex enough to challenge and make the experience rich.

Wii Sports does this. Mario Kart Wii does this. New Super Mario Bros Wii does this. Their controls are simple, allowing someone to pick it up and play with little instructions, but the depth is there to back it up. We need more games like that. Having watched my girlfriend (who was a relapsed gamer) struggle and get frustrated trying to master the learning curve of a game has opened my eyes that the industry needs to step back and rethink a few things.

Not all games should be simple of course, but far too many fall into the complex category. A lot of developers could benefit from stepping back and asking themselves "is there a way I could make this less complex to control?"

That's really disappointing for Split/Second, because that game is pretty awesome.

To be frank, it was pretty foolish to release all these racers at the same time (with Modnation being the only slightly successful one at number 15). Not sure what they were expecting, especially doing so in a normally slow month like May.

I am a bit disappointed that Split/Second didn't make the top 10, but at least Blur didn't either.

Forget top 10... neither made the top 20 either.

I don't care if the PS3 started out rocky. Sony shouldn't care either because they can't change it.

They should care, as taking that type of attitude that "our mistakes are in the past, ignore them" leads to repeating them.

The GameCube did the exact opposite. Started out really well, ended like hell.  Yet somehow that was OK.

No it wasn't. That was awful, and I have yet to see someone spin the Gamecube sales on here otherwise.

Same could be said for the N64.

And should be said as it took a company from #1 to #2, and the Gamecube continued the trend from #2 to #3.

The PS3 is much like the N64 in that it has good games (and I will defend that the N64 had some of the greatest that Nintendo itself produced), but its conception and creation is one for the "biggest mistakes in the industry" books. The decline from the PS2 to the PS3 in audience dwarfs what either the N64 or Gamecube saw in retrospect, and I would slump all three in the category of disappointing consoles from a sales perspective.
