Bear McCreary sounds like a boss character from a Mad Dog McCree game.

Figured I'd get that reaction from somebody, that's why I added that in there.  Yes, as much as it galls you KDR, MW2's gameplay is airtight.  That's why it's a hit and many other FPSes have fallen by the wayside.

No way Sony delays God of War III.  They need that money ASAP.

Not if those titles don't have the gameplay to go along with the graphics.  Last time I checked, "The Core" also likes exceptional gameplay.  See: Modern Warfare 2.

The problem is that this game appears to be a niche title.  It's like a Fire Emblem game without the cult following to back it.

It may be that third-parties don't feel like Nintendo would give their titles the same marketing support as they do their own titles.  It'd be hard to green-light a non-family-oriented Wii game knowing that the odds are stacked against it because 1) It's not family-oriented, and 2) Nintendo won't help you market it, guaranteeing that it'll languish on the shelf.

I would normally say the same thing, but Malstrom's post seems to have no purpose other than to damage Dyack's reputation.  I'm not sure what he gains by posting it, honestly.  Besides, he can't prove that what that guy says is true, so he wouldn't have a leg to stand on in court (from what I know of libel laws).

His post just seems particularly vindictive, and quite a bit beyond your typical "So-and-so is an asshole" rant in a forum.

TalkBack / Dark Void Zero Coming to DSiWare in January

Capcom creates an 8-Bit prequel for the current-gen game they haven't released yet.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=20611

Capcom's Dark Void is coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this January.  As a Nintendo fan, why should you care?  Because Capcom has created an 8-Bit companion game for DSiWare entitled Dark Void Zero.

As Capcom tells it in the video below, Dark Void Zero was originally created for Nintendo's ill-fated PlayChoice-10 cabinet but never released.  It has supposedly (nudge nudge, wink wink) been resurrected from "the vault" for download on Nintendo DSi.

Dark Void Zero features a human named Rusty fighting a group called The Witchers, with the help of scientist Nikola Tesla.  Rusty is equipped with a rocket pack that allows him to fly around levels at will. Dark Void composer Bear McCreary has been hired to craft an NES-style soundtrack for the title.

Dark Void Zero is scheduled to be released some time in January for 500 DSi Points.

Watch out for falling limbs.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=20610

Nintendo's upcoming action title Zangeki no Reginleiv (Dynamic Slash) has a new trailer, featuring Norse deities Freyja and Freyr going up against some nasty giants.  This is the first Nintendo game ever to be rated CERO D in Japan, primarily due to the blood-soaked manner in which you can use Wii MotionPlus to sever the limbs of your enemies.

Zangeki no Reginleiv also supports the Classic Controller, and boasts four-player online co-op play.  It is developed by Sandlot (creators of Earth Defence Force), and is scheduled for Japanese release on February 11, 2010.

TalkBack / Monster Hunter Tri Teaser Site Goes Live
« on: December 23, 2009, 10:31:37 AM »
There isn't much there yet, but you can get a taste of things to come.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=20609

Aspiring Monster Hunters will be glad to know that Capcom's Monster Hunter Tri site has officially gone live.  The site is currently only a teaser for the upcoming title, but there's still a lot of information to peruse.

The site is obviously meant to introduce the Wii title to those unfamiliar with the series, describing its core concept and introducing a few monsters such as Rathian, Lagiacrus, and Great Jaggi.  Weapons are also detailed, such as the Hammer, Switch Axe, and Bowgun.  The site is rounded out by a trailer video, several screenshots, and a news section describing some of the buzz the game is getting around the web.

Monster Hunter Tri was recently delayed by Capcom, moved out of the first quarter of next year to avoid other major releases.  It is currently scheduled to ship some time after April 1, 2010.

Malstrom had better watch it.  Dyack could easily sue him for libel and slander based on that post.

Yep, every game on 360 and PS3 is brown.  Just like every game on Wii is cartoony.

But those sites are a substitute for sites like NWR...they grab our hits, I can tell you that.  How many people click through from Metacritic to read the reviews?  A very small percentage, I'm sure.  At best they'd read the lowest review to see what the dissenting opinion was.

As for the Wall Street Journal, they're a bad example because, well, they're the Wall Street Journal.  Like the New York Times, they're a publication that's been around for decades and is known worldwide.  They're in the upper echelon of written content, with some of the best writers in the world.  I bet their print version is one of the few still breaking even.  They're an exception, not a rule.

You can't make people pay for news or reviews any more, KDR.  They can get it anywhere, and the sheer volume of content compensates for any lacking quality.  Furthermore, anybody can subscribe to a site behind a paywall and then summarize that content in full on their own website...the original site can't stop them. This is what is killing journalism.

General Gaming / Re: The PATHETIC state of the gaming 'media'

Newspapers got disrupted by the internet because their content stopped caring about the reader, now gaming websites are being disrupted by blogs and review aggregators (which may link to their reviews but let people pick the juicy bits without being regular readers of the site) because they wrote their content to fight their battle rather than to serve the reader.

As an aside, newspapers were supplanted by the web due to timeliness of content and lack of subscription fees.  And the rise of blogs and aggregators has nothing to do with any gaming sites abandoning readers, but rather has everything to do with those sites never having to ask permission to repost original content.
