EA Unveils Italian, Spanish and 2007 MLS Cup Playoffs Interactive Leagues for FIFA Soccer 08

Interactive Leagues Let You Live the Emotional Highs and Lows of Your Club, 24/7

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that the award-winning Interactive Leagues online mode for FIFA Soccer 08 has been expanded to include the Italian Serie A, Spanish Primera Division, and the 2007 MLS Cup Playoffs in North America. The Italian Serie A and Spanish Primera Division will be available to play beginning today while the Interactive Leagues for the 2007 MLS Cup Playoffs will begin next week. The addition of three new leagues brings to seven the number of Interactive Leagues now playable online in FIFA Soccer 08 for the Xbox 360™ videogame and entertainment system, the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, PlayStation®2, the Wii™, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system and PC. Every match on every platform counts towards the same leaderboard to create a truly worldwide experience.

The EA SPORTS™ Interactive Leagues enables you to represent your favorite club online against your heated rivals throughout the real-life soccer season. You play your games online against anyone in the world according to the real-world schedule. When they play, you play – and worldwide bragging rights are up for grabs. Track your team’s progress as the aggregate results determine your club’s position in the league table. You actually take to the pitch for the glory of your club.

In addition to the leagues announced today, the online Interactive Leagues also includes the Barclays Premier League, Bundesliga, French League, and the Mexican 1st Division. As you join a club, you join a community – play together for the common goal of victory.

Interact with thousands of other fans on a global scale through EA SPORTS™ Interactive Leagues and share the highs and lows that come standard with wearing the love for your club on your sleeve. Every game day you’re matched up with a supporter of your opposing team. Play as many times as you want online during the four day game window. Games start two days before the real-world game and end two days afterwards. All the winners are added up and three points is awarded to the victorious club. If your club wins in real life, it's your job to make sure that victory is matched online but if your club lost, you and other supporters can try to re-write the result.

Choose one club per league to represent online – support the team whose colors you bleed as well as teams in the other leagues. If you pick a less-supported club, you will have more opponents to match up against and more opportunities to play. Track your team's progress as the results determine your club's position in the league table. Here’s your chance to show your support for your club online, and prove which team belongs at the top of the leader board. Play all season long to uphold the glory of your club and top the table!

FIFA Soccer 08 is developed by EA Canada in Vancouver, B.C. It is available for the Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION®3, PlayStation®2, Wii™, Nintendo DS™, PSP® , PC and mobile. FIFA Soccer 08 is rated "E" (Everyone) by the ESRB and 3+ by PEGI.

Downloadable preview contains new trailer with more movies to come; Nintendo announces Virtual Console dates for Metroid, Super Metroid.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=14207

Many have wondered when the promotional blitz was going to start for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, one of Nintendo's biggest titles of 2007.  Only a few weeks from launch, little has been heard from the Big N about the newest installment of one of its most revered franchises.  That all changed today as Nintendo has posted a new offering on its North American Wii Shop Channel (look for your Wii's blue light to be pulsing), the Metroid Prime 3 Preview.

Appearing in the WiiWare section of the Wii Shop Channel, downloading the free preview will cost you 70 blocks of your system memory.  Once downloaded, it appears on the Wii Menu as a separate channel.  Starting the preview channel takes you into a Metroid Prime-themed menu that displays four movies entitled Corruption (a general trailer for the game), Bridge Fight (a movie of a bridge battle between Samus and Space Pirates that has been playable at past E3s), Aurora, and Spider Ball (both greyed-out for the time being).  A flashing message at the bottom of the screen promises more movies on August 13th, so one or both of these movies will surely be enabled at that time.

The movies don't reveal much that we haven't already seen, but the Corruption trailer does have a few new tidbits.  The identities of several new bounty hunters are revealed.  They are Rundas (a smaller, agile-looking silver hunter), Gandrayda (a female hunter in dark pink body armor, seen helping Samus in several cutscenes), and Ghor (a large hunter with a definite "mecha" look, who may be Gandrayda's friend or partner based on the amount of times they appear together).  These hunters appear in several cutscenes, so they undoubtedly play a large role in Corruption's plot.

Various shots show Samus battling Space Pirates, her boss encounter with Meta Ridley, and another boss battle against a giant named Mogenar.  There are several clips of Samus in her "corrupted" form, as well as several cutscenes of her ship in action.  Longtime fans of the series will be pleased to find that Samus' Screw Attack is fully intact.  The trailer closes with a giant tentacled monster (that looks to be half-creature, half-asteroid) menacingly floating through space towards a planet's surface.  Mother Brain?  We can only speculate.

In addition to the movies, the Metroid Prime 3 Preview also contains a small mini-game.  The movie view can be minimized, at which point users can hold down the A button to "paint" in tiles comprising an image of Samus underneath.  Uncover enough tiles and a "Reveal" button activates in the top-right of the screen, allowing you to display the entire image.  There are two images so far, with more surely to come.

The Preview's help function also points users to http://www.metroid.com/'>www.metroid.com, which has finally been updated to include a reference to Metroid Prime 3.  There is no extra content on the website; rather, Nintendo has chosen to instruct players to download the Preview to their Wii.

This downloadable content marks the beginning of what Nintendo is calling a "month of Metroid" on its online service.  The original Metroid will be available as a Virtual Console download on August 13th, and the highly-anticipated Super Metroid will become available August 20th.  This all culminates in the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on August 27th.

Stay tuned to Nintendo World Report as more Metroid Prime 3 information becomes available.

EA Names American Teen Soccer Star Jozy Altidore and Mexican Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa to FIFA Soccer 08 Cover

New York Red Bulls’ Jozy Altidore Second Youngest Cover Athlete in EA SPORTS History

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) today revealed that teenage soccer phenom Josmer (Jozy) Altidore, who plays for New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer, and young Mexican national team goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa of Club America of the Mexican Primera Division, will join Brazilian International Ronaldinho on the front cover of EA SPORTS™ FIFA Soccer 08 in North America. Altidore, 17, is the second youngest athlete ever featured on an EA SPORTS videogame cover.

“At EA SPORTS we believe in identifying the most talented up-and-coming athletes in the world to help us develop the most authentic sports games," said Romain Rossi, Director of Marketing for EA SPORTS. “We believe Altidore is one of the next great American soccer stars and Ochoa is winning admiration from many fans for his exceptional ability."

Altidore is one of only five teenagers ever selected to appear on an EA SPORTS videogame cover. The New York Red Bulls striker joins previous teen cover stars Freddy Adu (FIFA Soccer 06) of Benfica of the Portuguese Liga, Carmelo Anthony (NCAA® March Madness 04®) of the NBA Denver Nuggets, Wayne Rooney (FIFA 06 in United Kingdom) of Manchester United of the EPL, and Kevin Durant of the NBA Seattle Sonics, who will be featured on NCAA March Madness 08. Altidore is second only to Adu, who was 16-years-old when he appeared on FIFA Soccer 06 and is the youngest EA SPORTS cover athlete to date.

On the world stage Altidore helped lead the US Under-20 Men’s National Team to a final eight finish at the recent FIFA Under-20 World Cup where he scored four goals in five games. He has registered three goals this season for New York.

Altidore made his professional debut in MLS and scored his first professional goal during the 2006 season at the age of 16, instantly becoming a fan favorite. He is now a regular in the Red Bull starting lineup and one of the rising stars in MLS and the US Youth National Teams. Altidore is currently featured in an Adidas ‘Impossible Is Nothing’ international television advertising campaign and ESPN The Magazine selected him an athlete to watch in its annual NEXT issue that identifies up-and-coming sports stars.

“It’s exciting to be on the cover of my favorite videogame and I am really looking forward to playing as myself in FIFA Soccer 08," said Altidore. “I can hardly wait to play with my virtual character wearing the Red Bull uniform and taking on the world’s top defenders one-on-one."

Along with Altidore, Guillermo Ochoa, 22, has excelled internationally for the Mexican national team and is quickly becoming one of its most popular players. Ochoa most recently demonstrated outstanding ability as a starting goalkeeper for Mexico at Copa America 2007, where he helped lead the national side to the semifinals.

“I’ve always looked upon the EA SPORTS athletes as fan favorites so I’m honored to be named to this year’s FIFA Soccer 08 cover alongside Ronaldinho and Altidore," said Ochoa. “When you look back at some of the great players who have had this opportunity, it’s exciting to be a part of the EA SPORTS family and contribute to a game I’ve been playing all my life."

Ochoa has quickly risen into the International spotlight after making his debut with Club America as an 18-year-old. During the Clausura 2005 season Ochoa played an integral part in leading Club America to the championship and he is credited with helping Club America put together a 28-game undefeated streak. He also made his debut with the Mexican national side that season.

TalkBack / Phantom Hourglass Claims Game Critics Award

The next handheld Zelda gets some hardware.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=14127

The http://www.gamecriticsawards.com'>Game Critics Awards have announced the winners for their Best of E3 2007 awards.  While there were fourteen Wii and two DS games nominated, only one Nintendo-developed title won an award.  The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, the next handheld entry in the seminal franchise, won for "Best Handheld Game".  This is its second straight win in the category, as it won the same award for E3 2006 as well.

The victory is significant because this year's category featured stiff competition in the form of hotly-anticipated portable titles God of War: Chains of Olympus (PSP) and Contra 4 (DS).

The only other award-winner playable on Nintendo platforms was Madden NFL 08 (Wii, DS), which won for "Best Sports Game".

SEGA SHIPS ALIEN SYNDROME ON THE Wii™ AND PSP®SYSTEM

Sci-Fi Shooter-RPG Introduces Revolutionary Gameplay for Up to Four Players

SAN FRANCISCO (July 24, 2007) – SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced today that Alien Syndrome™ has shipped to stores nationwide for the Wii™ home video game system from Nintendo and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system. Alien Syndrome is a lightning-fast game combining RPG and shooter genres in a stunningly imaginative sci-fi universe. The game offers a dramatic and engaging single player adventure in addition to an infinitely replayable co-op multiplayer mode for up to four players. Derived from the classic SEGA arcade game, Alien Syndrome’s new shooter-RPG gameplay makes it easy to pick up and play, while its depth and wealth of features keeps it challenging for all gamers.

In Alien Syndrome, players take control of the game’s strong and enigmatic heroine – Earth Command Trooper Aileen Harding – and battle a variety of fearsome aliens and colossal bosses. Gamers will unlock a wide selection of character specialties and skills upgraded as they progress through an engrossing campaign, protected by many different types of armor and using a variety of increasingly powerful melee and ranged weaponry. Players can improve their heroine’s statistics and discover a huge number of powerful new abilities as they fight through infested spaceships and bizarre alien planets.

Alien Syndrome features 20 different weapon types including flamethrowers, quad-barreled lasers, nanobot swarms that dissolve enemies, and incendiary grenades that shoot fiery geysers from the ground. Each weapon offers advantages and disadvantages, depending on how it is used and the specializations players have chosen to adopt. Alien Syndrome’s fast-paced combat also allows for any number of combat strategies to defeat over 100 different alien enemies at one time.

Fighting alongside Aileen is the SCARAB, a sentient combat and inventory robot that can be upgraded to a powerful and indestructible battle-machine, automatically attacking nearby enemies during battle. It also acts as a vendor through which players can recycle or sell items at any time, as well as construct better weapons and synthesize more powerful items. Additionally, the robot can be upgraded with abilities such as healing and charging weapons.

Alien Syndrome on the Wii will utilize the Wii Remote™’s motion-sensitive technology to allow players a full range of motion when slashing through enemies, unloading on bosses, or running and gunning through hallways using a uniquely intuitive aiming system. Gamers will also be able to access new game modes and mini-games that expand on the core gameplay.  Using the Wii Remote, these new modes allow players to craft new items, to enhance existing items and character abilities, and to hack into computer systems.

For gamers on the go, Alien Syndrome on the PSP system is Wi-Fi enabled so that up to four players can play cooperatively in various multiplayer modes.

Alien Syndrome is developed by Totally Games and is now available for the Wii system and PSP system. The game is rated “T" for Teen by the Entertainment Software Rating Board and will have an MSRP of $49.95 on the Wii, and $39.95 on the PSP system.

TalkBack / PREVIEWS: Alien Syndrome
« on: July 24, 2007, 03:06:42 PM »
The only thing missing is a little girl named Newt.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/previewArt.cfm?artid=14086

Those familiar with 80's arcade games should know the name Alien Syndrome quite well. Originally released to arcades in 1986, the game was a simultaneous two-player overhead maze adventure featuring two humans blasting their way out of alien-infested space stations. Sega now brings an updated version to Wii, keeping the core gameplay intact while adding a host of improvements and additions to the original formula.

Billed as a "Sci-Fi Action RPG", Alien Syndrome tells the story of Earth Command Lieutenent Aileen Harding, sent to investigate an alien infestation on the planet Phygia. What she finds is a research facility overrun with constantly-mutating monsters, with her only choice being to fight her way out.

Featuring fifteen levels (and several side quests) totalling over twenty hours of gameplay, Alien Syndrome includes eighty different types of weapons and many different types of armor and bonus items. It also boasts over one hundred types of enemies, fifteen sub-bosses, and five main bosses. You can pick your character from a collection of different character classes, and fighting monsters nets you experience points that you can use to acquire new abilities. You also have a robotic buddy, Scarab, that fights alongside you. He can be upgraded as well, making him even more effective in battle.

Multiplayer takes the concept of the original game and expands it. Four players can play through the adventure on a single screen, working together as a team to battle through the alien hordes. It's easy to tell who's who by the colored icons above their heads, which will come in handy when things get really hectic.

Wii-specific functionality has been incorporated into Alien Syndrome as well. You can perform jab and spin attacks by jabbing with the Wii Remote or waving it in a circle, and you can execute finishing moves by thrusting downward with the nunchuk and Wii Remote when a monster is down for the count. There are also mini games specific to the Wii build to keep players busy.

Promising a lengthy quest, plenty of action, and extensive multiplayer, Alien Syndrome looks to take the concept of the original to the next level.

EA Announces First Wii Trivia Game

Fun and Collaborative Game Modes for All Ages

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--How smart are you? Do you know more than your Grandma about world history? Does your little sister know more than your Dad about sports? Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) announced today that the first Wii™ trivia game will be available this holiday. The Wii trivia game levels the playing field for friends and family, combining age-targeted trivia with action-based gestures, making it a truly trans-generational game for the Wii.

“Our Wii family trivia game is a perfect addition to EA’s recently formed Casual Games label," said Kathy Vrabeck, President, EA Casual Entertainment. “Part of our charter is to offer entertaining and stimulating games for the whole family. The prospect of kids being able to play with friends and parents on a level playing field is exciting."

“The gesture-based answer methods are a perfect match for the Wii," said Daniel Hagerty, Producer at EALA. “The experience isn’t just about who can press a button the fastest, it’s about getting the whole family up off the couch to get their minds and their bodies engaged."

The EA Casual trivia game for the Wii tailors questions to the contestant’s age, allowing friends and family members ages eight to eighty to play simultaneously. The game tracks every player’s answers, and adjusts the difficulty level to provide continuous stimulation and challenge.

Exciting Wii gestures make everything a game, from spinning the category wheel and tug-of-wars over correct answers, to “dance-offs" for additional points. The game also features a family mode, where everyone tries to beat the clock and a rapid-fire competitive mode for groups of friends. With both competitive and collaborative game modes and 20,000 questions in multiple categories, the replay-ability and fun will be virtually endless.

The game is being produced at EA Los Angeles and developed in conjunction with Planet Moon Studios and will be available this holiday for the Wii. The game has not yet been rated by the ESRB and PEGI. More detailed information and the final name announcement will be forthcoming.
