TalkBack / RE: IMPRESSIONS: Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam [Wii]
« on: October 09, 2006, 10:46:38 PM »
Damn, and I had this game pegged as garbage for sure.
What's next? Will Spongebob on Wii win game of the year?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Super Monkey Ball Wii
« on: October 08, 2006, 02:21:42 AM »
I hope Gamespot is correct and they are unlocked from the start. Perhaps playing through the single player mode can unlock "alternative" versions of the mini-games.
But while they may have been a bonus addition to the original game, the mini-games have become a staple of the series and should be available from the start.

Do the controller gloves imply that there may be just one STANDARD white remote as opposed to the multitude of colors we were expecting?

Also, what, if any, other games have been announced for launch?
I seriously hope it's not JUST those three.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:So what does everyone think of the 250 price tag?
« on: October 04, 2006, 09:47:29 PM »
I'm ok with the price if a drop is coming soon.
I mean the first few shipments of consoles will be snagged by hardcore gamers anyway so might as well make them pay since you know they will.
But as soon as the Wiis are starting to appear regularly on shelves, it's time for a price drop to 200 to go for the casuals and non-gamers.

As far as it being too late. It makes no real difference.
The PS3 is going to have so few units at launch (and I bet half will be faulty too) and will sell out regardless.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:MSNBC likes Nintendo's chances this generation
« on: October 04, 2006, 04:49:14 AM »
These analysts need to learn that the every new generation of consoles means it's anyone's game.
Just look at the shake-up between the 16 bit and 32/64 bit generation. Some would argue that was then and this is now and times have changed. But I don't think they have. It's just been a while since any company has screwed up bad enough to shake things up. Enter: Sony and the PS3.
The Wii will be ahead of the PS3 by default come to the of the year. The question is will Sony be able to catch up with Nintendo?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Try out the Mii channel before the Wii releases
« on: October 04, 2006, 04:19:13 AM »

(I apologize for the poor quality of the real pic, trust me my real skin tone is about that of the Mii)

It's not bad at all. Some of the options need to be fleshed out more and downloadable updates are a MUST for the REAL Wii Channel. With the body sizing option I think it's Mii alright. I'm WAY slimmer than the default size. I think just about anyone who knows me would match me with my Mii (anyone following mii?) if it were placed among all the others on this thread.

But is it me or are some of the eye options incredibly, INCREDIBLY wrong? Maybe I'm just being my over-sensitive uber-liberal self.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Nintendo's biggest blunder
« on: September 30, 2006, 08:13:14 AM »
I think Miyamoto's "tea table" comment is a sign that he's becoming a little more aggressive in making sure the games are quality. That's definitly a good thing even if it does mean delays. I think he was a little lax this past generation and let these younger designers get away with some things he probably shouldn't have because he didn't want to offend them. But he did seem quite upset with Mario Sunshine's somewhat dissapointing reception, especially in Japan. I think if anything that's what has changed his attitude.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:bring Resident Evil 5 to the Wii
« on: September 30, 2006, 08:04:12 AM »
The REmake on the Gamecube is one my favorite games ever. I like it a hell of a lot better than RE0 even.
So the Wii RE being a remake doesn't bother me.
Besides if the Wii game really is a re-telling of ALL the original RE titles (not sure if it's been 100% confirmed), how could ANY fan of the series resist?

TalkBack / RE:Wii Opera Browser Details
« on: September 26, 2006, 06:31:02 PM »
I think it will be earlier. I think we'll see at least one new color and a price drop in April/May when a second set of big games are released.
There's no reason the Wii shouldn't be 200 IMO. I think it's 250 just because Nintendo relealized the first few shipments would be bought exclusively by hardcore Nintendo fans who'd buy it for ANY price. It will need to be 200 soon to capture the casuals and non-gamers next year.
As for the new color, Black is obvious. But I wouldn't be surprised to see a Silver released too.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Wii North American launch to have 1 Million Wii's
« on: September 25, 2006, 03:14:43 AM »
It's good to know for certain that come the end of the year, for the first time EVER, a Nintendo console will be ahead of a Sony console in sells.
Actually this past generation will be reversed with MS in the lead, Nintendo in second, and Sony dead last.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:DK BONGO BLAST! WHoooooo!
« on: September 22, 2006, 05:14:35 AM »
Hopefully if it was indeed moved to Wii, this means we could still get a future incarnation of Donkey Konga on the new console.
Jungle Beat was fun and maybe Bongo Blast will be alright but Donkey Konga will always be THE reason to own the bongos to me.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Zelda on Wii is mirrored, game map reversed...
« on: September 21, 2006, 10:35:40 AM »
The more I think about this the more sceptical I am of this whole thing.
The screenshot comparison means nothing to me. We've only seen a TINY portion of the game afterall and it's still in progress.
Miyamoto's supposed confirmation is suspect too. He could have very well been referring to the the Link character model or the gameplay engine being mirrored and not the actual in-game world.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Guitar. Hero. Wii.
« on: September 21, 2006, 03:19:29 AM »
I didn't even think about that.
Instead of an entire guitar controller accessory they could just make a shell of sorts for the Wii-mote.
Who knows, maybe Nintendo will get involved and allow them to add a few Nintendo exclusive songs. Imagine a rock version of the Mario Bros theme.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Guitar. Hero. Wii.
« on: September 21, 2006, 12:01:53 AM »
Guitar Hero is the kind of game that belonds on the Wii.
I bet the Wii version will even sell the best.
I mean if you're a fan of Guitar Hero why buy the super-expensive high-end console made for uber-realistic graphics and expansive worlds when you can get it on a console for half the price with more than enough power for a rythm game?

Also, Nintendojo is reporting that Reggie says he's in talks to get GTA on the Wii.
Nothing confirmed but I think the chances are excellent with Reggie pushing for it and the controller being so perfectly suited for it as well.
Sounds like a lot of big third-party games that were left off the Cube may make it to the Wii.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Zelda on Wii is mirrored, game map reversed...
« on: September 20, 2006, 10:40:50 PM »
"It's not just this. Every single week there is a huge blow to Zelda TP, and I don't think it's over yet. Sure you can say "it's not a big deal" to one thing at a time, but when combined this game which was once destined to be the best game of all time now is going to be mediocre at best."

I don't see that.
Sure the E3 build got some slight criticism for not playing as well as people hoped but the new build seems to have rectified that.
People are just over-reacting to the mirror thing too. It makes no real difference in presentation and makes the controls much more intuitive.
For all we know it could be optional in the Wii version.
I don't see what other blows to the game you're referring to. Other than maybe the delay but Oot was delayed a year too and it still turned out to the best game of all time.

I'm still hoping for a toggle option.
I mean the Wii disc should be big enough to hold both incarnations of Twilight Princess so you can choose to hold the Wii-mote with either your left or right hand.
Hopefully this will be common in Wii games, simply fliping the axis to accomodate for those freaky mutunt left handed "people". j/k

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Zelda on Wii is mirrored, game map reversed...
« on: September 20, 2006, 08:29:11 PM »
So what if it's mirrored?
It won't make any real design difference at all assuming Nintendo takes care of the little things like re-reversing any signes, etc.. to make them readable.
It's not like a mirror mode in a racing game which can be awkward because tracks are primarily designed to be run clockwise. In an adventure game it really makes no difference.

TalkBack / RE:IMPRESSIONS: Rayman Raving Rabbids
« on: September 20, 2006, 06:43:45 AM »
"Isn't the story something like "win minigames to gain popularity to save the world" though?"

The impressions are kind of confusing. It says Rayman must complete tasks to "please the rabbids" but one of the mini-games involves SHOOTING THEM and we've already seen from previous videos that there is going to be a lot of rabbid ass kicking in the game.
My guess is a few of the odd mini-games like cow milking/tossing are early in the game before Rayman gives up on the diplomatic approach and goes for all out war with the furry b*tches.

TalkBack / RE: IMPRESSIONS: Rayman Raving Rabbids
« on: September 20, 2006, 03:25:18 AM »
I think this will be a much more compex set of mini-games than we're used to.
Basically you've got your Warioware which is more of less nothing but random mini-games, then something like Feel The Magic with small samplings of a story told by simple art panels leading into the mini-games.  Rayman looks like the next step. Sure the mini-games may appear as random and pointess as those in Warioware in this context but in the actual game I think they'll make more sense. They're going to be part of a larger adventure to rid the world of those damn rabbids. I think it will be feel less like a set of mini-games and more like an adventure game with a constantly changing control scheme.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:No multiplayer in Mario Galaxy
« on: September 17, 2006, 08:11:01 AM »
Sounds there will be support for multiple cursors on screen.
That could be interesting. Good way for non-gamers to participate without having to deal with the complex controls of a 3D platformer.

As for Luigi and the traditional two player mode.
I don't see why the newer Mario games can't feature a two-player mode akin to that of the original games.
It was turn-based so all they'd need to do is create a Luigi model. Sure you can just take turns playing as Mario but it would be a nice feature.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Marketing the Wii for dummies....
« on: September 17, 2006, 01:36:50 AM »
Nintendo needs two different types of marketting.
One for the hardcore/traditional gamers and one for the non-gamers.
The first is easiest. Just advertise the hell out of Twilight Princess. The game is going to be a masterpeice and gamers have been waiting for a realistic Zelda more in the vain of Oot. It's really all Nintendo needs to bring in the first group.
Advertising to the non-gamers will be a little more difficult but fortunately Nintendo already has experience with games like Nintendogs and especially Brain Age. Like with these games, Nintendo needs to advertise Wii Sports outside of the realm of gamers. On talk shows, in non-gaming magzines, etc... It needs to get people interested in the console for its affordability and dedictation to pick up and play gesture based games. Including Wii Sports is a smart move to. It's important that non-gamers have something included in the package because they're less likely than hardcore gamers to be willing to pick up the software seperately.

The trick is advertising to both groups and doing it well.
Wii Sports has only moderate appeal to MOST of Nintendo's traditional fans and, like wise, a game like Twilight Princess is going to be too complex to appeal to non-gamers.
But with such ideal games for each group and a range of software in between, Nintendo should do just fine.

197
I think they were delayed because they weren't ready.
But this will benefit Nintendo. Not only will it allow titles like Red Steel and Rayman to get the attention they deserve, it will save the Wii from the devestating post-launch drought that plagued both the N64 and Gamecube.
Zelda is the only MAJOR first title Nintendo needs for launch anyway.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:A mic on the Wiimote seems promising
« on: September 08, 2006, 05:26:57 AM »
I'm fairly certain Nintendo has already confirmed they decided against a mic in the remote.
The reason being that people are not accustomed to speaking into remotes. As if they are accustomed to swinging them around like swords. LOL.
But it was also stated that a head-set accessory was likely.  Anyone have a link? I swear I read it on N-Philes.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Nintendo Event September 14th
« on: September 03, 2006, 01:59:20 PM »
I could honestly care less about the price and launch date.
We already know for sure it's going to be released within the next few months and much cheaper than the competition.
So I'm really hoping for new game announcements. Or at the very least new footage of that Disaster game which would practically be a new game announcement since we saw nothing but a promo FMV which everyone forgot about already.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:When's the Wii launch date?
« on: September 02, 2006, 10:26:01 PM »
My prediction. Wii gets delayed until 2007. *runs for cover before the rocks are tossed*

No, seriously, I'm quite sure it will be within the first week of November if not the last week of October.
