Nintendo Gaming / RE: It's nearly a year later, and...
« on: September 23, 2007, 12:45:20 AM »
Nintendo is sitting so pretty I doubt it even cares at this point.
It's dominating Japan where MGS4 will be a non-issue because it's never been popular over there. At best, it MIGHT give the PS3 a small boost for a month in the US after its release. But it still won't see the kind of sales the Wii is enjoying at the moment.

Maybe they are promoting a competitor's game in a sense. But it's a competitor they are beating SO badly at the moment anyway.

Snake has appeared on Nintendo consoles before, so he's fair game in Smash Bros.
I don't see why we should be stuck with an outdated Snake just because his most recent games haven't made it over yet.

I love the character models. Cute and scary.
This looks like the most effort they've put into a DDR game in a LONG while.

I love NP too but, let's face it, magazines are obsolete in the internet gaming age.
The only thing it offers that NWR doesn't is a nifty pull-out poster each month and the occassional sticker collection.
Personally I think Nintendo should make the magazine ALL posters and stickers. I'd cover the whole house!

I can't wait to see Snake with the Parasol and a flower on his head.
...and Snake's isn't bad, but I still vote Chris Redfield in the REmake as having the best butt in gaming.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Brain Age 2 problem.
« on: September 21, 2007, 01:25:34 AM »
My DS had the same problem. I asked Nintendo and they instructed me to 1) clean the edges of the screen with a toothbrush to dislodge any debris that may be stuck in there and 2) "iron" out the edges of the screen to make sure it's level.
If you don't want to risk scratches or don't have a spare toothbrush handy I'd just try the second part. I'm quite certain it did the trick.
Basically the screen was all bent out of shape. Pressed in on the corners, and sticking up on the sides. This was apparent upon close inspection. So I ran the stylus along the edge until it was visibly evened out.

I doubt it's a problem with your Brain Age 2 cart. It's likely your other games just aren't as stylus-heavy. It seems to be the games that involve drawing/writing on the screen (especially near the edge) that become a problem with a warped screen.

Hope this helps.

"You can also battle with people you don’t know who are looking for brawls. The most important point here is that you will not know each other’s names.
If you think of your opponent as a simple scarecrow, any psychological barriers may melt away."

YES!!! Nothing could be worse than playing a random match and being hooked up with someone named "cute puppy". How could you hit THAT?
Beating up people I know in a FRIENDS match is no problem however. I love Sakurai. It's true that you can't be a genius without a little madness.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Official Wii Sales Thread
« on: September 18, 2007, 04:26:42 AM »
No one should expect Metroid Prime 3 to be a chart-topper and sell millions off the bat.
Metroid titles have always appealed more to the hardcore niche market than the kind of broad audience most other Nintendo games with historiically much stronger sales (Mario, Pokemon, etc..) have appealed to.
But I do think it will easily sell better than Echos, and eventually better than the original Prime. Word of mouth should give it legs through the holiday season.

"I have a feeling an update is coming that will let the Wii read directly off SD cards without transferring the data."

That would be better than a HD IMO and I do think it's something Nintendo had in mind the whole time.
I'm guessing the only reason you can't play VC games off of SD cards just yet is Nintendo is waiting to finalize the software coding to assure they are ONLY playable on the console they were bought for.

I've still yet to reach this supposedly lackluster ending but I can't see it making any difference.
I never expected some huge twist, just the usual "you saved the day, good job, goodbye". Playing the game should be its own reward.
Back in the golden days of gaming, no one ever knocked points off a game for its ending.

I don't see what's so terrible about the friend codes.
I mean with the Wii-mote pointer it takes, what, like five seconds to enter one?
Personally I think I prefer the games having individual friend codes as opposed to all using the system code.
This way you can go on a forum and send out your friend code for some Brawl opponents and not have them all sending junk to your Wii inbox.  Then take the kids who play Wii, the last thing you'd want is for them to seek out Brawl friends on forums only to end up getting inappropriate messages and invitations from pedos.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Whatever happened to online?

I'm glad to see Miis will be utilized, at least as icons. But this does greatly improve the chances of a Mii fighter and maybe a Wii Sports themed stage.

Maybe I should give Yoshi's Story another chance.
I only played through it once but it just seemed so TERRIBLE in comparison to Yoshi's Island which is one of my favorite games of all time.

Any Yoshi's Story fans/defenders out there?

Someone already posted a video of the "magic hammer" in Wrecking Crew.

I don't know what's more amazing, the fact that such an obscure item from such an obscure game would be included, or that Sakurai didn't even reference the game in the update. I suppose he wanted us to figure it out for ourselves.

GOLDEN HAMMER!! Personally I'm more into the SQUEAKY HAMMER, I'm sure it will be good for laughs.
It doesn't say what, if any game, it's from. It's been ages since I played it, but I seem to recall "rare items on pedestal" in Wrecking Crew for NES.

TalkBack / RE: Wii Overtakes Xbox360 In WorldWide Sales
« on: September 12, 2007, 11:57:20 PM »
To those who said the Japanese market was no longer that vital and Nintendo was foolish to not "Americanize" like its competitors. TAKE THAT!!!
Even if the 360 did manage to start selling at an even pace with the Wii in the US and even Europe, the Wii's continued dominance in Japan will still increase its lead worldwide.

Sales are going to jump about 500% when Smash Bros comes out. Not worried.

I bet you the week of the Zapper's release we get "Dunk Hunt" and "Hogan's Alley" on the virtual console.
The week after, "Super Scope 6" and " Yoshi's Safari" too.

I think it's likely to be a collection of mini-games with this crossbow thing being among them.
There will probably be a Duck Hunt-esque game as well. Also one featuring Mario.
As for Link using a crossbow. Maybe they're going to give him one in the NEXT game. It would be an interesting alternative to the usual bow and arrows.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Metroid Prime 3 Revolutionized
« on: September 07, 2007, 07:40:02 PM »
"NO...Retro is far too creative to be wasting time on a mindless shooter..."

Seems like they could split the team up, with most working on a new IP, and a few left to make the new Hunters.
Sure it would be a mindless shooter but, face it, they tend to sell.

Though I'm glad Retro focused all its energy into an incredible single player experience with this title, I have to admit an online multi-player mode with these perfected controls would be sweet.
Anyone think Retro should make a Metroid Prime Hunters for Wii? They already have 3D models for the Hunters.
It wouldn't take long to develop, they could even have it out by this time next year. By then Nintendo will have the online kinks worked out and they'd probably even have a head-set accessory for voice chat to go with it.

Well I WAS loving this game up until I had to wait a whole SIX SECONDS for a door to open. So I give it a 3/10. Not even worth a rental.

You could tell that the developers put a lot of good ideas and heart into Red Steel but something just went TERRIBLY wrong.
I bet a sequel, with some more development time and lessons learned, could be pretty damn good.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Wario Ware hate?
« on: September 04, 2007, 05:42:50 PM »
There will always be things to complain about.
If Warioware didn't exist, and Brawl featured classic Wario I guarantee that some of the same people would be complaining that he's just a slower/fatter/stronger Mario clone.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Wario Ware hate?

"there was like 0 simultaneous games. pass the wiimote is not MP, its SP switch off."

It's still multiplayer, just taking turns. Like in Mario Bros, Mario Bros 3, and Mario World.
Sure there should have been an option for multiple remotes but then you'd be limited to just four players or however many remotes you happen to have.

Also, there IS a simultaneous multiplayer game, but you have to unlock it.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Wario Ware hate?

Nintendo hasn't forgotten about the non-Ware Wario as evident with his recent platform/puzzle ds title and his appearance in classic garb in most every Mario multiplayer title.
"Classic Wario" could still be an unlockable player. There may even be a matching stage.
